Introduction

You play Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT specialist who's been handpicked to oversee the defensive needs of one of America's most experimental biotechnology firms. Your job is to safeguard company secrets, but when a black ops team breaks in and kills the very scientists you were hired to protect, everything you thought you knew about your job changes.

Badly wounded during the attack, you have no choice but to become mechanically augmented and you soon find yourself chasing down leads all over the world, never knowing who you can trust. At a time when scientific advancements are turning athletes, soldiers and spies into super enhanced beings, someone is working very hard to ensure mankind's evolution follows a particular path.

You need to discover where that path lies. Because when all is said and done, the decisions you take, and the choices you make, will be the only things that can change it.

Long Term Trophies:

The following is a list of Miscellaneous & Combat-related trophies that you should focus on immediately from the onset of the game until you unlock it. For a certain few trophies, you will need to dedicate some effort and time towards repeating the required actions until you unlock these trophies, which will probably be some point after your 2nd visit to Detroit.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Complete the Game on "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty

Authors' Note: We shall be advocating the 1-Playthrough method. Should you choose to play otherwise, we still recommend that you play and focus on Foxiest of the Hounds on your 1st playthrough, so that you have a second chance on the next playthrough in case you don't get it the first time.

"Give me Deus Ex" is the hardest difficulty, available immediately from the beginning. You must not change the difficulty at any point in order to obtain Legend (G). Enemies can take you down in a matter of seconds if you're spotted, leaving you with the only option: Stealth.

Playing Stealth is actually more rewarding in terms of XP and Credits, and there are multiple paths to most objectives. You will want to ensure that you do not raise a single alarm (Foxiest of the Hounds (G)) and do not under any circumstances kill anyone (Pacifist (G)). If you ever find yourself stuck, veteran GameFAQs writer Absolute Steve's Walkthrough comes highly recommended. Also checkout our Strategy Section for detailed info on gameplay tips and detailed info on alarms and kills and Rotblitzkrieg's Video Walkthrough for these trophies.

Dialogue & Social Battles, Decisions and Save Files:

  • Save your game regularly. You should save before starting each story mission and 2-3 running saves for progressing through the mission. You can have up to maximum 20 Save Files.
  • The correct answers for successfully winning Social Battles WILL VARY for everyone depending on your actions & responses throughout the game, even for casual non-trophy related situations. Possible answers are listed for every Social Battle in the respective trophies.
  • While progressing through the game, you will be asked to make certain decisions that will influence the outcome of the sidequests and small bits of the story. There are trophies for making these decisions. Save before making these decisions so that you can reload once you have the trophy and choose your other desired outcome.
  • Hengsha (2nd Visit), you are asked to visit the LIMB Clinic to get yourself "fixed" with a new Biochip. This action will significantly affect gameplay by messing with your HUD and making the game more difficult. You can choose not to install the Biochip when you visit the clinic, save yourself a deal of pain.
  • Save your game after defeating the Final Boss, where you are presented with 4 choices if you have been thorough and saved 2 important individuals in the final level. Each choice leads to a different ending. Viewing all endings is required for Deus Ex Machina (S). You can reload the game after viewing one ending then choose another. See the trophy guide for more details.

Foxiest of the Hounds & Pacifist:

  • Always play stealthily. While not 100% necessary, make it a habit to avoid being seen at all times. If enemies/cameras don't see you, they won't have any reason to raise an alarm for Foxiest of the Hounds, apart from discovering bodies of their comrades.
  • The Tranquilizer Rifle is reported to be glitched and causes deaths/"Skull" icons, despite being a non-lethal weapon. To be safe, try to minimize using it and reload if you get a "Skull" icon instead of "Zzz" icons on enemies that were knocked out, which might negate Pacifist.
  • There is a potential glitch during the course of undertaking the sidequest "Cloak & Dagger" that may affect Pacifist, see the spoiler in Cloak & Dagger for more info.

Doctorate (Collectibles)

  • Some collectible XP books are located in one-time only locations, for example the first mission Sarif Manufacturing. Be sure to refer to the guide for locations.
  • Certain areas also require a high level of Hacking:Capture augmentation, so be sure to raise it to Level 5 as soon as you can, preferably before you leave Detroit as there are some in Detroit that are behind high level Doors & Safes. However, you still get to return to Detroit ONE more time in a later chapter.
  • The Icarus Landing Augmentation is required latest BEFORE entering Lower Tai Yong Medical, or you will miss out on a XP Book for Doctorate.

Step 2: Clean Up and Missable Trophies.

This will be required if you happen to miss any trophies or did not obtain Pacifist and/or Foxiest of the Hounds. Unfortunately there is no New Game+, so you will have to play the entire game from scratch again.

Gameplay Tips & Hints

Augmentations

By far, the most important Augmentation is Hacking:Stealth and Hacking:Capture. You need these 2 to open up doors and storage rooms, gain access to alternative routes (which grant XP), shut down Security Cameras/Turrets/Robots, and most importantly it's required for Doctorate (S). You can find a list of Augmentations here: Augmentations (DX3) - Deus Ex Wiki, and a list of PRAXIS kits that you can find through exploration here: Praxis kit - Deus Ex Wiki

The following is a recommended Character Build List in order of Individual Upgrades. This build is designed to complement with story and sidequests as you unlock them, maximizing the abilities' "value for XP" as you can make 110% use of them immediately.

Augmentation Category - Upgrade - "Story/Sidequest" Timeline

Detroit

Cranium - Hacking:Stealth (Lv.1-3)

Cranium - Hacking:Capture (Lv.2-3) - "Investigate the Terrorist/Motherly Ties"

Arms - Move/Throw Heavy Objects - "Stop the Transmission/Cloak & Daggers"

Back - Quicksilver Reflex Booster (Multiple Takedowns) - "Cloak & Daggers/FEMA Facility"

Cranium - Hacking:Capture (Lv.4-5)

Arms - Punch through Walls - Access to free Praxis Kits in Sewers and alternate routes

Skin - Glass Shield Cloaking System (Lv.1) - "FEMA Facility"

Hengsha

Legs - Jump Enhancement System - Access more hidden areas with items/upgrades

Back - Icarus Landing System - Required for XP Book in Tai Yong Medical, best get it early.

Torso - Recharge Rate Upgrade (Lv.1)

Cranium - Social Enhancer - "Rotten Business"

Torso - Recharge Rate Upgrade (Lv.2-3) - Faster recharge, faster actions

Skin - Glass Shield Cloaking System (Lv.2-3) - For longer sneaking duration

Montreal & Later Chapters

Torso - Typhoon (Level 1&2) - "For boss battle with The Mantis"

Torso - Energy Level Upgrade (Lv.1-3)

Cranium - Wayfinder Radar System (Lv.2)

Stealth Enhancer - Cones of Vision

Torso - Implanted Rebreather

Sneaking

  • Crouching greatly reduces noise generated by footsteps. It is a much better method than purchasing the Run Silently upgrade
  • Alarm Panels can be hacked for XP
  • Cloaking will let you slip past Cameras, Turrets, Robots, and even Laser Grids
  • Nearby enemies will be alerted (no alarms) if they hear you punch through walls
  • Punching through a wall with an enemy on the immediately other side will kill him. Observe your radar or use Eyes: Wall-Penetrating Imager (Upgrade) to check for enemies first before punching through walls

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: How hard is "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty?

A: Enemies can take you down in matter of seconds if you're spotted. Hence discretion is strongly advised.

Stealth

Q: Do I miss out on anything by playing Stealthily?

A: No, you will not miss out on anything. Playing Stealthily will only affect certain dialogue and reactions from people.

Pacifist (Credits Maldron & Solid_Fantasy)

Q: Do the Guards in the Prologue count?

A: Yes, you must NOT kill anyone in this game, except during Boss Fights.

Q: What Counts as a Kill and affects Pacifist?

A: Almost every action can directly or indirectly result in a kill. Pay attention to your surroundings for environmental hazards as well.

The following counts as a kill

Spoiler

  • Killing enemies in the Prologue/Tutorial during Sarif HQ Intruders Invasion
  • Killing via Lethal Takedowns
  • Killing via any Lethal weapon (Shotgun/Combat Rifle/Pistol etc..)
  • Killing via Environmental Explosions (Barrels)
  • Incapacitated/Stunned enemies that subsequently fall into a Hazard (Fall from heights, Electrified floor)
  • Robots that explode and kill nearby enemies
  • Turrets/Robots you hacked that kill enemies
  • Hengsha (2nd Visit) - During aircraft crash, if you choose to save Malik and use Lethal means.
  • Panchaea - Killing the residents that have gone mad

The following does NOT count as a kill for you

Spoiler

  • Glitched icon display from Tranquilizer Shots showing "Skull" icons. If you are confident that you got the "Merciful Soul" bonus for taking down the enemy with the Tranquilizer, then you may ignore the skull icon and proceed, otherwise reload an earlier save.
  • You destroying turrets & robots
  • Defeating Bosses
  • Hengsha (1st Visit) - Choosing to drop Diamond Chan off the rooftops in "Rotten Business" sidequest. You MUST take him down in a NON-LETHAL manner first in the apartment.
  • Detroit (2nd Visit) - Choosing to inject Brent Radford with Lethal dosage in "Acquaintances Forgotten" sidequest
  • Singapore - If saved Malik, at the end she comes in to rescue you and bombs a few guards

Foxiest of the Hounds (Credits Maldron & Solid_Fantasy)

Q: What counts as an Alarm? How do I know I've not activated one?

A: When on a quest/sidequest, when you clear certain checkpoints you might see a XP bonus "Smooth Operator", which means you have not raised any alarms. This is an indication that you are doing things right, but this XP bonus does not appear in every mission as some areas do not have alarms to begin with.

A Video Walkthrough is available by rotblitzkrieg

You should still try to avoid the following events at all times that may lead to an Alarm

  • Enemies activating an Alarm Panel
  • Enemies discovering the body of another enemy then going for the Alarm Panel
  • Security cameras discovering the body of an enemy
  • You tripping over Laser Grids
  • Shooting a Security Camera
  • Security cameras going from Suspicious to Hostile (Including Panchaea)
  • Failed Hacks (Timer reaches 0:00/Access Point is traced)

Normal vs Activated Alarm Panel || Normal vs Alarmed Security Camera

HDHJYzZ.png zaaWMr0.png

The following does NOT count as an Alarm

Spoiler

  • Scripted events (Enemies are permanently in "Alarmed" State, but if they spot you and should any of the above 3 occurs then an Alarm is sounded)
    • Hengsha (1st Visit) - Tai Yong Medical, Zhao's Penthouse
    • Hengsha (1st Visit) - Tai Yong Medical, Hangar
    • Montreal - After meeting Eliza Cassan the 1st time
    • Montreal - Calling the Funicular elevator
    • Hengsha (2nd Visit) - Aircraft crash landing zone
    • Panchaea - Insane enemies who spot you

[*]Human enemies in Suspiciuos/Hostile state (please be reminded they will still go for the Alarm Panel)

[*]Robots and Turrets in Suspicious/Hostile state

Normal Turret vs Hostile Turret (Hostile does not affect the trophy)

GUP0quC.png

The following is a list of Missions in which "Smooth Operator" and "Ghost" is obtainable based on Absolute Steve's Walkthrough. Once again, it is not 100% necessary to obtain "Smooth Operator", but if you do then it is almost guaranteed that you will unlock the trophy:

TROPHY GUIDE

01.jpg  Platinum (P)

You unlocked every trophy in the game.

You are a "God out of the Machine".

09.jpg  Trooper (S)

Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Complete the game once on any difficulty.

10.jpg  Legend (G)

Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution at its hardest setting without ever changing the difficulty.

On Hard difficulty, enemies pack a punch and can put you down in a matter of seconds if engaged in direct combat. Playing with Stealth is the way forward and is actually considered the bread and butter of the game.

Most of the time, there are multiple entry routes to your destination that are accessible by the variety of Augmentations at your disposal. For more info on which Augmentations to take and gameplay tips, checkout our Strategy Section

12.jpg  Pacifist (G)

Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution without anyone dying by your hand. (Boss fights don't count.)

Highly Missable! You must complete the game using 100% Non-Lethal methods. That means using Takedowns, Gas Grenades, and the Stun Gun. If an enemy is taken out by a Non-Lethal approach, a "Zzz" icon will show when their body is highlighted. The Tranquilizer Rifle is reported to be occasionally glitched and sometimes deals lethal shots (especially headshots) so avoid using it if possible.

Lethal methods are only permitted during Boss Fights. An enemy who is killed/dead will show a "Skull" icon when highlighted.

13.jpg  Foxiest of the Hounds (G)

Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution without setting off any alarms.

Highly Missable! Checkout our Strategy Section for what constitutes an alarm and how you can determine if you're safe or have screwed up. If you need a guide, checkout the Video Walkthroughs.

PROLOGUE

31.jpg  Old School Gamer (H)(B)

You found all the hidden story items in Megan's office. Point and Click much?

This occurs in the very first room of the game. There are 6 items. They are not highlighted at this point of the game (because you aren’t augmented yet).

1. E-book on Sofa

2. Newspaper tablet on Table

3. Book “Being more effective” on desk

4. Toy car next to Fax Machine

5. Photo frame next to PC

6. PC (read all emails)

Video by PowerPyx:

32.jpg  Unforeseen Consequence (H)(B)

You convinced Zeke Sanders to let his hostage go.

Missable! Zeke Sanders is the terrorist leader of the Purity First group that takes over the Sarif Manufacturing Plant in the 1st Story Mission. You will encounter him near the end together with Josie Thorpe and engage him in Social Combat.

Spoiler

Possible Correct Answers:

Try To Free Josie, Reason, Empathize, and Reason.

Try To Free Josie, Empathize, Empathize, and Reason

This will end the mission without a fight and award you the trophy.

15.jpg  Lesser Evil (B)

Deal with Mr. Carella's indiscretion.

Missable! Lesser Evil is a sidequest in Detroit that is initiated by entering your office on the 3rd floor of Sarif Industries HQ and reading your email (password is in a Pocket Secretary on your desk). After the Manufacturing Plant incident (Story Mission M1), return to your office and Carella will plead for your help. Ask for a reward and agree to help him.

Walkthrough

Spoiler

Carella is being threatened by a man named Tindall, whom you can find on the way to Apartment Blocks north of Sarif HQ. He is leaning against a red container. First you need to hack into his apartment, on your left as you head towards the Basketball Court.

Go through his computer then go back and talk to him. Tindall will reveal that he has his own troubles. You can either threaten him to cough up the evidence, or help him deal with 2 Punks located at the Basketball Court further up. Neutralize the punks with Non-Lethal means if you’re going for Pacifist (G)

Whichever path you take, speak with Carella near the stairs to the subway. He rewards you with a Laser Targeting System upgrade (if you asked for a reward earlier) and the trophy.

33.jpg  The Desk Job (H)(B)

You convinced Wayne Haas to let you into the morgue.

Missable! Wayne Haas is the Desk Sergeant in the Police Precinct. Convincing him to grant you access is 1 of 3 possible routes that you can take to complete the 2nd Story Mission: M5 - Investigating the Suicide Terrorist.

Head to the Police Precinct, speak with him for a Social Battle. Win and this will grant you safe access inside and the trophy.

Spoiler

The correct sequence varies depending on your playstyle. Possible answers are:

  • Absolve, Plead, Absolve, and Absolve
  • Absolve, Plead, Absolve, and Plead
  • Absolve, Crush, Absolve, and Absolve
  • Crush, Crush, Crush, Absolve

42.jpg  Sentimental Value (H)(B)

You kept Megan's bracelet for yourself. Apparently, letting go really is the hardest part.

Missable! See Motherly Ties below.

16.jpg  Motherly Ties (B)

Put a grieving mother's doubts to rest.

Missable! Motherly Ties, is a Detroit Sidequest automatically given to you by Mrs. Reed after completing your 1st Mission and leaving Sarif Industries HQ. She will approach you at the main entrance and ask that you speak with Ex-Detective Chase, who is located near Tindall. He's now a Security Guard for one of the Apartment Blocks.

Chase will provide you with 3 leads. Follow-up and complete them, remembering to grab “Megan’s Bracelet” from the safe in Back-Alley Storage. Mrs. Reed will meet you at the Chiron Building lobby when you’re finished. You can choose to give her the bracelet or keep it which unlocks Sentimental Value (B)

Walkthrough

Spoiler

This quest is heavily tied in with Story Mission “Investigating The Suicide Terrorist”. Chase will give you 3 leads:

1. Find out what you can from Chet Wagner

2. Hack into Capt. Penn’s computer

3. Retrieve the case investigation files from the Alley Storage

All 3 are located at the Police Precinct. If you convince Wayne Haas to let you in, you will have a much easier time moving around.

Chet Wagner is located at the front desk, but won’t cough up anything until you hack his computer on the 3rd Floor and intimidate him with whatever info you’ve learnt from it.

Capt. Penn’s office is on the 2nd Floor. You will need to either hack the door (stealthily) or access it via the vent in the corridor to the right of his office.

The corridor beside Penn’s office leads to the Fire Escape Ladder, which you can use to access the locked Storage (near O’Malley). Read the 4 e-books here, hack open the safe then read Megan’s note and grab the important Megan’s Bracelet which is needed for Sentimental Value (B)

43.jpg  The Take (H)(B)

Greedy bastard. You accepted O'Malley's blood money and let him go.

Missable! See Cloak & Daggers below

17.jpg  Cloak & Daggers (B)

Deal with the man in the shadows.

Missable! Cloak & Daggers, is a Sidequest that is started by speaking with Detective Jenny Alexanders. She is dressed undercover as a working girl opposite the front entrance to Derelict Row. Save before starting this quest as there is a potential glitch that may cost you Pacifist (G). The quest is broken down into 3 main objectives:

Find incriminating evidence of corrupted cop O’Malley

Secure MCB witness Double-T

Locate weapons shipment in Derelict Row, DRB turf.

Once you have all 3 objectives completed, speak with Jenny again and you will be given the option to arrest O’Malley yourself. It is vital that you choose to arrest him yourself. Head to O’Malley’s apartment. Save before entering and confronting him.

Choosing to accept his offer will unlock The Take (B). If you want to be a good guy, reload your last save and choose to apprehend him which starts a fight. Take care to use non-lethal means for your Pacifist playthrough. Whichever your choice is, speak with Jenny again to complete the sidequest and unlock the trophy.

Walkthrough

Spoiler

This quest is heavily tied in with both Story Missions “M5 - Investigating The Suicide Terrorist” and “M7 - Stopping the transmission”.

1. Find Incriminating Evidence

In Story Mission M5, you will be infiltrating the Police Precinct (or via safe access by convincing Wayne Haas). You can find O’Malley in the back alley of the Police Precinct, which is accessed via 2nd Floor Fire Escape. Speak with O’Malley, and he will mention a Weapons Stash for you, it is located in a corridor north-east of Chiron Building. He will also reveal the location of the witness

Alternative Entrance: Head North past the Police Precinct into an alley and a door. Enter and you’ll find that the floor is electrified. You will need to have 2 boxes, jump on one, move the other before you and jump on that, then move the box you were previously on before you and repeat the routine until you can shut off the faulty circuit breaker.

Next, head to O’Malley’s apartment near the Basketball Court. Search the bedroom for Weapons Shipments, Package of Drugs, and hack his computer for information on his motives.

2. Secure MCB witness Double-T

Climb the Fire Escape ladder near the basketball court, and open up the 2nd or 3rd Floor Windows to gain access. You will find the MCB gang hideout on the 3rd Floor. They will initially enter an Alarmed state, and turn Hostile if you enter close proximity. Your objective is neutralize everyone (6 pax) in here with NON-LETHAL means. The Multiple-Take Down augmentation is good to have for this, otherwise use the Stun Gun instead. Once you have neutralized all 6 people (Double-T is in the bedroom), this objective is complete.

Potential Glitch: If you entered the MCB's hideout prior to finding the witness location from O'Malley and you knockout the lone guard outside (it's empty inside until you speak with O'Malley), when you come back you will find that lone guard still lying on the floor but he's now dead, and also you may find one of the other quest-scripted MCB members is glitched and out-of-reach. It is unknown if this will affect Pacifist (G).

3. Locate weapons shipment in Derelict Row

This part ties in well with Story Mission M7. There are 3 main routes into Derelict Row:

(I) Front Entrance, (ii) Narrow alley with Fire Escape Ladder behind the building sitting opposite Chiron Building, and (iii) Side Corridor north-east of Chiron Building where you found O’Malley’s Weapons Stash

(ii) requires the Jump Augmentation, whereas you can jump onto the heavy boxes in (iii) by placing a small crate next to them and using that to jump over the boxes. All 3 paths lead to the same area (which is just behind the Front Entrance). From here there are two paths: (A) Shortest way is to climb the fire escape and with the Punch-Through-Walls augmentation, do so at the top floor but this action kills a DRB gang in the process, negating the Pacifist (G) trophy , Hug the left wall and creep behind the containers and enter the door until you come to a DRB member leaning on a railing.

This is where the 3rd part really starts. Takedown the DRB member infront of you and go down to see another 2 guys talking. You can bypass them by crawling under the grate on the right. There are gaps in between, make sure that they are not leaning on the crate when you pass the gaps. Crawl under the partially-open shutter very quickly and from hereon just follow the objective markers, using cover on the left side to progress all the way. The weapons shipment is located underneath a building to your left. For more info you should refer to Absolute Steve’s walkthrough.

When you have everything, go back to Jenny. Remember to choose to arrest O’Malley yourself if you want to obtain The Take (B)

34.jpg  Yes Boss (H)(B)

You had an argument with your boss, David Sarif, and won.

Missable! After completing the Story Mission: M7 - Stopping the Transmission, you arrive back at Sarif Industries. Pritchard will call for a meeting at your office before you debrief Sarif. Ignore him and meet with Sarif first

Spoiler

Go back down to your office, read all your emails in the PC, speak with Pritchard, then confront Sarif with your newfound knowledge and engage in Social Battle.

The correct sequence varies depending on your playstyle. Possible answers are:

  • Placate, Refocus, Refocus, and Refocus
  • Refocus, Refocus, Refocus and Refocus
  • Refocus, Refocus, Refocus, and Defend
  • Refocus, Refocus, Refocus, and Placate
  • Refocus, Placated, Defend, and Placate
  • Placate,Placate, Placate, and Refocus
  • Defend, Placate, Defend, and Refocus

Warning! Wait, you are not finished here. Sarif will send you a couple of emails after the Social Battle, go back down to your Office PC and read all of them, there will be one last scene with Pritchard when you exit the office. This is required for Acquaintances Forgotten (B)

27.jpg  The Bull (H)(B)

You defeated Lawrence Barrett, elite member of a secret mercenary hit squad.

Story related. Lawrence Barrett is the boss of the first Chapter, in Story Mission M7. He attacks mainly with his Gatling Gun-arm, Frag Grenades, and a very strong melee punch. The fight is very easy if you have EMP or Gas grenades in stock, which can be bought from the MCB Leader earlier in the mission. Throw an EMP/Gas Grenade to temporarily stun him, find any of the 3 Red Explosive Barrels in the area and hurl them at him for massive damage and which stuns him again. Repeat this a few more times, then take him down easily with Frag Grenades or your Shotgun/Combat Rifle. Hide behind cover when necessary. There are tons of ammo and grenades scattered in the room if you need them.

35.jpg  Darker Shades (H)(B)

You convinced a fast-talking bartender to let you see Tong Si Hung.

Missable! Tong is the Manager in Hive. You can only find him there after you've completed the Story Mission in Hengsha Court Gardens. Do NOT sneak in via the sewers or vents in the back alley because you'll overhear a conversation and Jensen will deem you've achieved your Story Objective. You will need to grab a Hive Membership card in 1st room of the 3rd Floor of Hong Hua Hotel to enter without conflicts. Alternatively you can bribe your way into the club if you have 1,000 credits to spare or just simply threaten the bouncer outside the club.

Spoiler

Tong is on the 2nd Floor Bar and will engage you in Social Battle. The correct sequence varies depending on your playstyle. Possible answers are:

  • Pinpoint, Pinpoint, and Advise
  • Pinpoint, Advise, and Pinpoint.

Help a lady in the oldest of professions clean house.

Missable! Upon landing in Hengsha, pay a visit immediately to Hong Hua Hotel 4th Floor. You will see Mei arguing with her manager. Speak to her to get the sidequest Rotten Business. This is a two-part quest, the first involves rescuing her abducted friend Ning, and the second involves assassinating or framing a crime lord to get rid of him.

Walkthrough

Spoiler

Part 1 - Find Ning

  • (Optional) Speak with Chuang Li on the rooftop, extract Ning’s whereabout by bribing him (2000 credits) or with the Social Enhancer Aug “Appease”
  • Go to the alley south of Alice Garden
  • Disable 3 guards in this area (Stealth Approach, go to bottom floor and take the stairs up, stun the guard at the stairs by shooting his leg, then take out the other 2 one at a time
  • Hack open the Storage, speak with Ning and go back to Mei

Part 2 - Deal with Diamond Chan

  • Speak with Mei after Part 1. She requests that you assassinate Diamond Chan. You can defer to a Non-Lethal approach, where the plan is to knock him unconscious and plant drugs in his apartment.
  • Head to Diamond Chan’s apartment in Youzhao District, on the rooftops near the entrance.
  • Approach the door, wait for him to complete the conversation, then go in and knock him out.
  • At this point you have two choices: Plant the drugs and leave, or drag his unconscious body over and let him fall, killing him and unlocking The Fall (B). Killing him will affect Pacifist (G), so save your game before making your decision.
  • Return to Mei for your reward and the trophy.

You paid poor Jaya's debt in full. How very... humane... of you.

Missable! See Bar Tab below

20.jpg  Bar Tab (B)

Help the Hive Bartender settle a tab.

Missable! Bar Tab is a Hengsha sidequest given by Bobby the Bartender in Hive. He asks that you hack into 3 Belltower Security Antennas in Youzhao District, which will reveal the location of Jaya, a broker who owes him money.

Walkthrough

Spoiler
  • Follow the objective markers on the rooftops in Youzhao District and hack the antennas
  • Head to the apartment beside Hengsha Court Garden and take the elevator to Jaya’s apartment.
  • Speak with Jaya, who leads to the following options.
    1. Ask Jaya for the money
    2. Ask Jaya for her Augmentation
    3. Offer help to speak to someone (Requires 5000 Credits)

[*]Go speak with Bobby for Bar Tab (B), picking Option 3 unlocks Guardian Angel (B)

48.jpg  Super Sleuth (H)(B)

You really nailed your case against Lee Hong.

Missable! See Shanghai Justice below.

22.jpg  Shanghai Justice (B)

It may take some sleuthing, but justice must be served.

Missable! You won’t get S4 - Shanghai Justice sidequest until after speaking with Tong at the Hive. When you enter the 2nd level of Alice Garden Pods, you’ll bump into Malik who gives you the sidequest. Malik wants you to find evidence that Lee Hong killed her best friend. You will confront Lee Hong at one point in the game, and that’s your chance to earn Super Sleuth (B).

Walkthrough

Spoiler

  • Head up to 3rd Floor and look for Pod 009, it’s a bed bunk.
  • Go to LIMB clinic, speak with Anon X at the counter
  • Meet Anon X outside LIMB and obtain Autopsy report (rejecting his reward claim is OK)
  • Head to Youzhao, Lee Hong’s apartment is near the upper entrance. Enter the bathroom, then search the apartment for: Answering Machine, Hack into Computer, Antique Clock and Baseball Bat
  • Find Lee Hong on 2nd Floor of Hive, expose him by answering:”Inaccurate, Drunk, Antique Clock, Pregnant, LIMB”. Unlocks trophy Super Sleuth (B)
  • Hack Terminal in the Bar on same floor
  • Meet Malik outside Hive. Reward: PRAXIS kit and Shanghai Justice (B)

WnT6yoY.png

28.jpg  The Mantis (H)(B)

You defeated Yelena Fedorova, elite member of a secret mercenary hit squad.

Story related. Yelena Fedorova is the 2nd boss of the game, whom you’ll encounter in Montreal.

Spoiler

This fight occurs after you’ve met the REAL Eliza Cassan. Yelena has the ability to cloak herself. Fortunately the area is filled with puddles of water so you can observe her movements by paying attention to the ripples of water. Eliza will lend you a hand by telling you to duck, right before she attacks. There are 4 servers in this circular room which produce electrical shocks when destroyed. This coupled with the water puddles makes for a deadly combination, for you and her.

The easiest way to take her down is 2 strikes from a fully upgraded Typhoon Aug when she rushes you. Otherwise, you’ll have to play cat-and-mouse by laying mines, grenades and running away when she rushes you then turning around and pump her full of lead. It's highly recommended that you have the EMP Shielding augmentation to avoid damage from the electricity and take advantage of the stunned Fedorova with gun fire. Repeat until she falls.

36.jpg  The Throwdown (H)(B)

You convinced the smooth-talking politician Bill Taggart to tell the truth in public.

Missable!

Spoiler

Upon your return to Detroit, you meet up with Sarif, then you need to proceed to the Convention Centre to find Bill Taggart. Enter via the front entrance/lobby and go up the stairs directly into the room where he's giving a speech. You MUST engage him. Do NOT sneak in via the side or back entrances to his dressing room at the back where his staff and computer is. As soon as you find him you’ll engage him in Social Battle.

The correct sequence varies depending on your playstyle. Possible answers are:

  • Discredit, Redirect, Confront, and Redirect
  • Confront, Redirect, Discredit, and Confront
  • Discredit, Discredit, Confront, and Discredit
  • Confront, Redirect, Discredit, and Redirect

37.jpg  The Last Straw (H)(B)

You talked Doctor Isaias Sandoval out of suicide.

Missable! Warning! You must either complete The Throwdown (B) or hack Taggart's PC and plant fake evidence of Sandoval as a pre-requisite for this event to occur.

Spoiler

You’ll obtain Sandoval’s location from Bill either by winning the Social Battle or hacking Bill’s computer, BUT you can only convince him if you won the Social Battle against Bill. His apartment is opposite the Chiron Building. You’ll enter only to find it empty. But an entrance into the Sewers is revealed by breaking the wall or using the Circuit Breaker in the bathroom. The Sewers are filled with hostile Purity First members.

Make your way to Sandoval to engage him in Social Battle. Possible answers to talk him out of suicide are:

  • Tough Love, Tough Love, Inspire
  • Tough Love, Tough Love, Emphatize
  • Emphasize, Emphatize, Emphatize
  • Emphatize, Tough Love, Inspire

You granted a dying man his final request.

Missable! See Acquaintances Forgotten below

19.jpg  Acquaintances Forgotten (B)

Follow Pritchard's lead to uncover the truth.

Highly Missable! Completion of Yes Boss (B) and checking your Office’s Email in Sarif HQ after Sarif's Social Battle is a pre-requisite to obtaining this Sidequest. It is given automatically when you return to Detroit by Pritchard.

Walkthrough

Spoiler

Pritchard tells you to visit an Ex-Detective named Brent Radford. His apartment is beside the Basketball Court, the same building as the MCB hideout. Enter to find a man standing over a wounded Radford. Disable him. Speak with Radford and he’ll ask you to find his Trauma Kit in the wardrobe. Find it, and apply a dose of morphine to temporarily relieve his pain. He’ll tell you that you should look into his storage behind the bank/near the Police Station for more info, and that you should pay Michelle Walters a visit.

Before you leave him, he asks that you put him out of his misery with a Lethal Injection. If you choose to do so, you’ll unlock Kevorkian Complex (B), this does not affect Pacifist.

First head to the Storage. There are 3 guys outside, 2 of them close to each other. Silent methods are advised as the police are just around the corner and will respond to any loud shots. Wait for the one in the back to finish his teleconversation and walk out of sight. Take down the 2 that are close together, then the 3rd guy. Another goon is in the storage with his back to you. Knock him out and hack the PC and Safe. Read all the emails to learn of Jensen's past then grab the Photos in the safe.

Next, follow your objective marker to Michelle Walters and show her the photos. Extract everything you can from her and leave. A call to Pritchard and the quest is complete, trophy unlocked.

Next time, Jacob better use a more complex code to arm his bombs.

Missable! See Smash the State below.

18.jpg  Smash the State (B)

Help Officer Nicholas take out the trash.

Missable! Officer Nicholas (Nicky) gives you the “Smash the State” sidequest upon leaving the Convention Centre in Detroit. He needs help locating a crook named Jacob who intends to blow up the Police Force with a Bomb. This is your chance to earn Lucky Guess (B).

Walkthrough

Spoiler

You’ll need to first convince or calm Nick down to narrow down the possible locations where Jacob might be: Back alley of Police Precinct, Transit Station & The Sewers.

  • Head directly to the Sewers.
  • Disable all Mines along the way to White
  • White is protected by 3 turrets, which you want to disable before confronting him
  • Alternatively make some noise to attract him outside his comfort zone and disable him
  • The bomb is located near to the ladder which one of the turrets is guarding. Do NOT hack it. Input the code 0000 to unlock Lucky Guess (B)
  • Go back to Nicky for your reward and trophy. You get a Silencer if you used Non-Lethal methods.

xAfgKPV.png

40.jpg  Good Soul (H)(B)

Against all odds, you saved Faridah Malik's life.

Missable! Before heading to Hengsha for the 2nd time (which means before heading to meet with Sarif the second time while in Detroit - Credits to Maldron) make sure you stock up on Gas & EMP Grenades, Stun Darts and that you are have completely upgraded your Cloaking aug and Power Cells if you intend to maintain a Non-Lethal (Pacifist) approach. This event occurs immediately after leaving Detroit.

Spoiler

The moment you land in Hengsha, Malik’s aircraft is besieged by Heavily Armed Soldiers on 3 sides. You on the other side with the aircraft in between you and the enemies. Make a save file before doing anything. You are given a choice here:

(I) Escape unnoticed while the enemy is distracted, or

(ii) Save Malik by knocking out/eliminating the enemies to unlock this trophy. You have 2-3 minutes before her aircraft blows up upon sustaining too much damage from the opposing force.

Lethal Approach: Use a sniper and take out snipers on the 2nd floor of left-side building and 3rd floor of right-side building. Shoot any explosive barrels you see. Go down to ground level and take out 2 Heavy Troopers quickly. A Box Droid will drop down shortly where they were, disable it with an EMP. Take out the remaining soldiers with any means necessary.

Non-Lethal Approach: Equip yourself with the Stun Gun and Gas Grenade. Cloak yourself, throw a Gas Grenade into the midst of the Heavy Troopers, and another onto the 2nd floor of the right-side building. Quickly Stun any other soldiers nearby and switch to an EMP Grenade. Make sure that the soldiers are knocked out before disabling the Box Droid with an EMP Grenade because when the Box Droid explodes it may kill soldiers who are up & standing beside it. Knock out any remaining soldiers including the snipers. Make sure you check that no one is dead when the dust settles before leaving the area.

49.jpg  Ladies Man (H)(B)

You convinced Mengyao to spill the beans on the mysterious Hyron Project.

Missable! See Corporate Warfare below. You need the Social Enhancer Aug to convince her.

23.jpg  Corporate Warfare (B)

Protect a client's interests by performing a less-than-hostile takeover.

Missable! On your 2nd visit to Hengsha, Hugh Darrow will call you when you enter the Youzhao District. He requests that you meet with Mengyao on the rooftops nearby. Mengyao needs a favor retrieving stolen data from a group of terrorists in the Dongbai District,

Walkthrough

Spoiler

These terrorists are located at the bottom level. The data is on the terrorist leader who is in the corner facing a fire. Knock all of them out and collect the data. The Sewer entrance to Zelazny for the “Talion A.D.” quest is nearby.

You need the Social Enhancer Aug for this next part. Go back to Mengyao, but do NOT hand over the data yet. Choose “Inquire” to ask about the data contents, then press :l1: and select “Charm” to get her to reveal details about the Hyron Project, and trophy unlocks.

24.jpg  Talion A.D. (B)

Descend into the bowels of an urban jungle and confront a warrior-priest.

Missable! On your 2nd visit to Hengsha, head to the LIMB clinic and speak with Dr. Wing, who gives you this sidequest. He will ask you to deal with a rogue Belltower operative team, led by Michael Zelazny, supposedly hiding behind a butcher shop in Youzhao District.

Walkthrough

Spoiler

Upon reaching the butcher shop, open the storage door and head down to find a dead soldier. Read the Pocket Secretary on him to find that Zelazney has gone underground into the sewers. The entrance to the sewers he is hiding in is located in the Dongbai district, where the main objective of the sidequest “Corporate Warfare” takes place, and not far from where you found Ning in “Rotten Business”.

Head down the sewers, take the first left and climb up the ladder to end up on a ledge overlooking Zelazney and co. There is only one way to approach them - from the front, but here you can throw a Gas Grenade and knock all of them unconscious, which completes the objective and without needing to fight them.

Alternatively if you do go up to him, answer any of the following:

"Inquisitive, No, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Reason, Let Go"

"Inquisitive, No, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Approve"

if you want to avoid a fight. Head back to Dr. Wing for the trophy and a PRAXIS kit.

t1Httsa.png

29.jpg  The Snake (H)(B)

You defeated Jaron Namir, Leader of Belltower's Elite Special Operations Unit.

Story related. Jaron is the 3rd boss, whom you’ll encounter in Singapore.

Spoiler

Jaron can cloak like Yelena, but if you pay attention you can still make out the outline of his body when he moves around. He carries a Plasma Rifle and will unleash a burst of shots at you from time to time, or throws a combination of Gas-EMP-Frag grenades at you.

Cheap method: Turn on your cloak and track Namir. He will jump over the glass panes from time to time. Lure him to jump over a glass pane, and immediately melee him where he lands. If you time it right it'll be a 1-Punch-KO.

Another easy way, is to throw a Gas Grenade to temporarily stun him, and unleash 2 fully upgrade Typhoon strikes and end the battle before it even begins.

Alternatively, the area is littered with Glass Panels, which can be penetrated with the Laser Rifle. Lay Mines and lure Namir to them to hurt/stun him, then unleash Grenades and Shots before he recovers. Weapons and items are scattered throughout the room or in the drawers beneath each statue. There’s also a Plasma Rifle in a corner of the room.

41.jpg  Hangar 18 (H)(B)

You found and read the secret message. Now you know too much...

Missable! You need the Hacking: Capture 5 upgrade for this trophy. Hangar 18 is an Easter Egg found at the end of the Omega Ranch. After opening the hangar and Malik comes (only if you saved her previously otherwise the scientist will hop into a helicopter already there) to pick up the scientist, go downstairs and turn left into the corner of the walkway and you'll find a box. Move this box out of your way and crawl inside. Now you'll see a computer with a level 5 security level. You can either attempt to hack the computer, or use the password "trnsprt". Hack this computer and view the emails for the trophy. Video credit goes to PowerPyx, and password credit to Zubrski.

38.jpg  The Final Countdown (H)(B)

You showed millionaire Hugh Darrow that his logic was flawed.

Missable!

Spoiler

Aboard the Panchaea, your 1st objective is to disable the lockdown, where you’ll meet Hugh Darrow and engage him in Social Battle. Possible answers are:

  • Extrapolate, Critique, Appeal, and Critique
  • Extrapolate, Appeal, Extrapolate and Extrapolate
  • Extrapolate, Appeal, Extrapolate, and Critique
  • Critique, Appeal, Critique, and Critique

which convinces him that humanity has a right to choose for itself and that you deserve a trophy for saying so.

30.jpg  The End (H)(B)

You defeated Zhao Yun Ru and destroyed the Hyron Project.

Story related. The Hydron Project, controlled by Zhao Yun Ru, is the final boss of the game. Zhao is protected by a shield, which can only be deactivated by destroying 3 Hyron Drone Pods in the center of the area. Once the shield is down, take her out. There are multiple gun turrets in the area that will be your main threat. Credits to AbsoluteSteve for the following.

Spoiler

Method 1: The easiest method, is to use the Laser Rifle which can penetrate Zhao’s shields, turn on cloak and go up to her and fry her to bits. This literally takes less than a minute.

Method 2: Without the Laser Rifle, you have 3 options to the destroy the Hydron Drones before you can kill Zhao.

  1. Press the buttons beside the pods to release the Drones, then kill them. Insane augmented people will fill the area after 2 are destroyed, so take care not to kill them if you’re going for Pacifist.
  2. Hack the Lv 4 PCs that are on the desks surrounding the areas to release the Drones, and kill them
  3. Input the code Darrow gave you (“2012”) into the Security Panel on the central structure which shuts down the Drones totally.

Experience all the different endings that Deus Ex: Human Revolution has to offer.

On Panchaea, you need to have spoken with Bill Taggart and Sarif to unlock the choice of selecting 2 of the possible 4 endings. After defeating Zhao, move forward into a room with 3 panels. Save your game here. You are offered 3 options in this room (if you spoke with Bill and Sarif), and a final 4th option lies in the passage to your left. Choose your desired ending, watch it to the end and reload the game choosing another ending. Repeat until you’ve watched all 4 possible endings.

02.jpg  First Takedown (B)

Perform your first Takedown. Civilians don't count, so be nice.

See Opportunist

03.jpg  Opportunist (B)

Perform 50 takedowns within the same playthrough. (Civilians don't count.)

Takedowns are performed by sneaking or going up to a target, and tapping :circle:. This will disable the target but will not kill him/her. Holding :circle: however will perform a Lethal takedown, which you do not want if you're going for Pacifist. Only takedowns performed on enemies (those that turn alarmed/hostile-on-sight or are quest-scripted) will count, not Civilians.

If you have not achieved this by the time you arrive on Panchaea, then knockout all the residents who have gone mad as they are considered hostile threats. Credits Wolfwood.

04.jpg  First Hack (B)

Perform your first Hack successfully.

See Hax0r1!.

05.jpg  Hax0r1! (B)

Successfully hack 50 devices within the same playthrough.

There are 4 types of devices that can be hacked in the game: Door Access Keypad, Alarm Panels, Computers, and Control Terminals which disable Cameras and Turrets. The Hacking minigame is simple as shown by the ingame Tutorial. You will start from a Access Point, and need to hack your way to the Data Core (Green Sphere node) by overtaking Data Nodes along the way. You'll want to be hacking every device whenever possible instead of using codes, because it accounts for alot of XP and free Credits.

06.jpg  Transhumanist (B)

Fully upgrade your first augmentation of choice.

Augmentations are basically abilities that you can acquire in game. The Augmentation menu is accessed by pressing :select: and using :l1: or :r1: to scroll through the tabs. You can purchase new Augmentations by gaining PRAXIS. PRAXIS is awarded after accumulating XP milestones (every 5000 XP), found during missions/hub exploration, rewarded for completing sidequests or can be purchased for 5000 credits each at every LIMB 2.0 Clinic (Limited to 2 pieces in each chapter). See Praxis kit - Deus Ex Wiki for locations.

Augmentations are categorized into the 7 Categories according to the part of the body in which they affect. Each category is further separated into Augmentations Type (Example: Hacking:Capture, Hacking:Stealth, Hacking:Fortify etc...).

All you need to do is fully upgrade one type of Augmentation to unlock this trophy. I suggest going for Hacking:Stealth or Hacking:Capture first on your Stealth playthrough. The easiest Augmentations though are in the Back Category, which only require 2 PRAXIS kits.

07.jpg  Consciousness is Over-rated (B)

Knock out 100 enemies in a single playthrough.

Knock out 100 enemies by any non-lethal (takedown, stun gun, gas grenades, tranquilizer rifle) means in a single playthrough to unlock this. If you have not achieved this by the time you arrive on Panchaea, then takedown all the residents who have gone mad as they are considered hostile threats. Credits Wolfwood.

08.jpg  Up the Ante! (B)

Upgrade your first weapon of choice.

See Gun Nut below.

25.jpg  Gun Nut (B)

Fully upgrade one of your weapons.

Missable! In the game you will come across upgrades that increase a particular stat (Damage/Reload Speed/Ammo Capacity/Rate of Fire) for a weapon or bestow an additional function (Laser Targeting/Silencer/Armor Penetration etc..). These are obtained via exploration or purchased from vendors. Combine any upgrade that is compatible with a weapon to unlock. You can find the locations of each upgrade here: Weapon mods (DX3) - Deus Ex Wiki

The easiest to upgrade is the Tranquilizer Rifle, which only requires 3x Reload Speed upgrade and 1x Target Leading System upgrade. You will want to save any Reload Upgrades you find for the rifle. These are commonly sold by the vendors starting from Detroit Part 2. Credits to Maldron

Note: Due to inventory constraints and the fact that the Tranq. Rifle is glitched for Pacifist, you won't be carrying the Rifle or the Upgrades around all the time. You can drop the weapons or items anywhere in the City Hub (excluding one-time only quest locations), such as in your Detroit Apartment or Hong Hua Hotel, Hengsha, and the items will still be there on your 2nd visit. Just remember where you left them.

14.jpg  Doctorate (S)

Read all 29 unique XP books within a single playthrough.

Highly Missable! It is crucial that you are thorough in your scavenges throughout each area, including sidequest locations and be on the lookout for ebooks written by Hugh Darrow. Reading each ebook gives you the "Scholar" bonus worth 200 XP.

Warning: You need the Icarus Landing System Augmentation before entering Tai Yong Medical in Hengsha, to avoid missing a XP book. You also need to have Hacking:Capture 5 upgrade to access certain XP books in Detroit and Singapore.

We highly recommend this XP Book Location Guide by Absolute Steve.

Video guide by PowerPyx

26.jpg  Ghost (H)(B)

You made it through an entire hostile area without so much as a squeak.

Ghost is an in game XP reward bonus for getting through an entire hostile area without being seen or spotted and without making any noise that enemies hear or investigate something you done. This bonus can be earned at multiple opportunities throughout the game especially if you're only performing non-lethal takedowns and being stealthy for Foxiest of the Hounds. The first opportunity to obtain this trophy is on the game's first real mission were the tutorial teaches you about takedown moves. Take out the patrol guard you see with a non-lethal takedown and then take the alternate path that Pritchard mentioned to you. To take the alternate path move the box you see in front of the vehicle and climb up the giant crates. Climb the latter to the roof and move the box you see on the right away from the wall and crawl through and turn the power switch off and continue down the path until you find another vent. Once through the vent you'll unlock the trophy.

50.jpg  Balls (H)(B)

Seems you like playing with balls, eh?

You will find a Basketball Court next to the North-most apartment in Detroit. What you need to do is pickup the basketball lying on the ground and try to put it into the hoop. The easiest method is shown in the video below by PowerPyx.

DLC Mission - "You Scratch My Back, I Scratch Yours"

Type: Mandatory Mission

Occurs When: In Hengsha 2nd Visit, after meeting with the Boss of the Harvester Hideout

This was originally a part of the Explosive Mission Pack for those who pre-ordered the standard version.

Spoiler

After locating Vasili Sevchenko's GPL Device in the Harvester Hideout, Tong Shi Huang will send you to rescue his son, who has been kidnapped. You can go back to Hengsha via any of the two possible entrances from which you came in.

Go past Hong Hua Hotel, head towards the Alice Garden Pods. On the lowest level, there is an entrance to the Sewers, nearby where the thugs for the "Corporate Warfare" sidequest are. This is the same sewers where the sidequest Talion AD takes place. Find Tong's contact and he will give you a quest item to be handed over to Tong's son. Climb down the nearby ladder after the conversation.

Up ahead there are 3 paths: (1) To the far left, there are a few guards that patrol are corridor which has crawl spaces (2) Disable the laser grids at the main entrance (3) Enter the gas filled directly ahead, and sneak into a room at the end with a guard in it.

All 3 paths lead to the same room, and the next room has 6 guards in the area. Sneak your way to the prison cells in the back of the ground floor, disable a guard in the room and open the cell doors. Speak with Tong Jr and then make your way back to the Harvester Hideout to continue the story.

Can't wait! Using a yewjhin/BreadSkin guide is just as exciting as actually playing a new game!

But I'll just go out on a limb and say that I don't see this being a 7 difficulty.

At least it's not yet as stacked as Shadows of the Damned's skewed difficulty votes

I was wondering for the 100 Knockout trophy, does Non-lethal Takedowns count towards that as well?

Cause I don't think I have enough ammo for my Tranq and Stun Gun to do that... >_>

Non-lethal countdowns will count to this trophy, but if you have the reflex augment that lets you take down two enemies in one move, it only counts as one takedown.
