Introduction:

This unique PSN title from Different Tuna features a papercraft shark in an underwater world. Derrick goes on a rampage against the evil M.E.A.N. corporation that turned his parents into shark fin soup, wreaking havoc on all manner of underwater sea creatures, and any unsuspecting land critters who get in his way.

Derrick travels the world (or at least the American, Asian, African and Arctic continents), eating everything in site, while unleashing environmental disasters over 32 levels.

This game is hard to describe as there isn't really anything on the PS3 that looks like it. The graphics are beautifully artistic, and the gameplay, best described by forum user dezkly, is "Sonic the Hedgehog meets Echo the Dolphin."

This is not a particularly difficult game to 100%, and should only take about 5 hours.

Walkthrough:

The game is divided into 4 Zones, each representing a continent (America, Asia, Africa and Arctic), with 8 levels per Zone. There are 3 types of levels - regular collectable/score levels, speed levels, and an environmental disaster level. The final level in each Zone has a 'boss' battle at the end.

Score Levels

The collectible/score levels comprise the bulk of the levels in each Zone. Essentially each level has 4 main objectives - finish the level to unlock the next, beat a target score to achieve bronze, silver or gold rating, and jump through all of the flaming tires, and collect all gems.

In these levels, Derrick has a health meter which continually drops as you play. You recharge by eating fish, crabs, turtles, scuba divers and other underwater food, as well as birds, people and animals above the surface in the air, on boats and on land. Collecting gems will also recharge your health meter. If you don't eat enough/move quickly enough, you die and fail the level.

The tires and gems are the 'objects' in the game, and each level has a counter to tell you how many there are. You do not have to collect all objects in one run - they are cumulative over as many tries as you want, and once collected, they become greyed out so it is easy to track those which you have already found. Note however, that if you do not complete the level, all collected objects are reset and you will need to pick them up again. Tires are usually above the water and require you to jump, while gems outline a pathway throughout the level. Most are underwater, but a few lead above the surface, typically towards tires. None are particularly hidden or difficult to locate, with the below noted exception:

Special note - Arctic Level 2

[spoiler=a]This is the only tricky level for objects. You start this level in the air, and slide down a mountain into the water. The tires on this level are hidden on a lower mountain slope, and your starting path will not lead you to them. The most efficient way of collecting these is to turn around and jump by pressing :circle: as soon as the level starts. This will take you back over the starting line and off the edge where you will fall straight down to the lowest level. The two collectable tires are on this lowest slope. You will know you have landed on the right level if you find bears that you can eat.

The collectables don't contribute to your bronze/silver/gold ranking, but are required for the 'object' trophies, and you unlock additional Zones once you have collected a specific number of tires and gems.

You can easily complete a level without eating most of the food or collecting objects, but you won't score well. To get gold in these levels, you need only achieve a specific score target. Eating entire schools of fish, or flocks or birds, or groups of crabs etc, will give you points, plus a bonus multiplier for getting the entire group. On the early levels, you essentially have to eat everything for the gold. Later on you get power up attacks near the groups, which gives you additional multipliers. You need to eat everything and get some bonus kills to get the gold. How long you take doesn't matter, as long as you don't run out of health. Typically in the later levels, which are larger, there are more food groups and powerups, so you can achieve gold much earlier and without eating everything. The trade off is that your health meter depletes more quickly, so you must be efficient.

It is certainly possible to complete the level, get all objects and get gold in one run, but it's likely to be much more effective to clean up the collectables, then go for the gold score in a second run.

Speed Levels

There are 2 speed levels in each Zone. These require you to complete the level within a specific time frame. These levels are quite short - about 30-60 seconds. You get bronze/silver/gold depending on how quickly you finish the level. The later Zones are more demanding, but still shouldn't take more than a few tries.

There is no health meter during speed levels, and eating slows you down, so try to avoid food. Hitting the :circle: button gives a short boost of speed, and you need to hold down :r2: throughout. You will also see chili peppers scattered around and eating these will also provide a speed boost.

Environmental Disaster Levels

The environmental disaster level is essentially a puzzle level. There is one in each zone. These are pretty easy to figure out, so I won't give away spoilers. There are no gold rankings or collectables for these levels.

Step 1:

Play through the 32 levels over the 4 Zones. You will unlock a trophy every time you complete all 8 levels in a zone (American Pie, Asian Occasion, Safar Sogood, and Freezer Pleaser), and another for completing all 32 levels (Parental Approval).

Make sure you get at least one gold medal on any score level (Valuable Contribution), one gold on any speed level (Speed Need), and collect all objects in at least one level (Hoard Reward).

At your discretion you can complete each level fully to get all objects and the gold score medals, or leave this for Step 2.

You will most likely get the trophies for eating a flock of birds (Cardbird), and eating 100 creatures in a single level (Ton of Fun) naturally as you play through the levels.

Finally, you can also easily get the trophies for finishing a level swimming backwards (Backwards Jig), and backwards in the air (Backwards Flying Jig), in any level.

Trophies Earned in this Step: 12

(S) Parental Approval

(B) American Pie

(B) Asian Occasion

(B) Safar Sogood

(B) Freezer Pleaser

(B) Backwards Flying Jig

(B) Backwards Jig

(B) Hoard Reward

(B) Valuable Contribution

(B) Speed Need

(B) Ton of Fun

(B) Cardbird

Step 2 (Optional):

If you aimed for speed in Step 1, you will now need to go back and collect all remaining objects (Excellence Obsession) and obtain gold medals on all levels (Unrivalled Brilliance) for your last 2 trophies. If you already achieved all golds and collected all objects as you went along, this step is not needed, and you will already have your 100%.

Trophies Earned in this Step: 2

(G) Unrivalled Brilliance

(S) Excellence Obsession

Trophies:

Get gold medals in all possible levels

Most difficult trophy in the game. You need to get gold ranking in all score and speed levels.

In score levels, typically the gold target requires you to eat the vast majority of the groups of food. Eating entire groups will give you a bonus multiplier. In the early levels, you will need to eat everything - if you fall short of the target, search for more food. Remember that birds and people/animals above the surface also count, but gems and tires do not. In the later levels, try to get some special attack kills. Look for small power up medallions that are often located near groups of food, and eat them to activate unique speed kills. This will give 6, 8 or 10x multipliers, making it possible to reach the gold target well before the end of the level.

In speed levels, you need to finish the level as quickly as possible. As time winds down, your medal drops from gold, to silver, then bronze. The early levels will simply require you to swim smoothly through the maze, but on the later levels you will have to avoid obstacles, including food, and avoid bumping into the walls, as this will slow you down. Watch for red chillies, as these give you a speed boost. Keep :r2: pressed at all times, and spam :circle: for a quick speed boost.

Collect all the objects in the game

Requires you to find and collect all gems on the score levels, and jump through all flaming tires. Note that there are no collectables on the speed or environmental disaster levels.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/EB8.jpgPARENTAL APPROVALhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all the levels in the game

Story related, cannot be missed. Unlocks upon completion of the last level in the Arctic Zone. Does not require you to collect all objects or get gold on all levels.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/E63.jpgAMERICAN PIEhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Complete the American zone

Story related, cannot be missed. Unlocks upon completion of the last of the 8 levels in the American Zone.

American Zone boss strategy:

[spoiler=1]The American Zone boss is a killer whale. His tail area is vulnerable to damage, and he attacks with his teeth as he swims around.

This is not a particularly difficult battle, simply focus on getting behind him and spam :circle: to take him down.

You can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/991.jpgASIAN OCCASIONhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Complete the Asian zone

Story related, cannot be missed. Unlocks upon completion of the last of the 8 levels in the Asian Zone.

Asian Zone boss strategy:

[spoiler=2]The Asia Zone boss is a stingray that swims side to side. He can only be damaged by attacking his underbelly. You will lose health if you touch his tail stinger or head regions.

The belly is hard to attack, and you cannot damage it from above. You need to use the two entrances from below (this is how you approach the battle to begin) - there is one entrance on each side. Stay in the tunnel until he approaches, then use :circle: to attack once his belly is over the opening. After a few attacks, he will swim away. Stay near the opening to lure him back, then rinse and repeat. It should only take 2-3 attack patterns to kill him.

You can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/364.jpgSAFAR SOGOODhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Complete the African zone

Story related, cannot be missed. Unlocks upon completion of the last of the 8 levels in the African Zone.

African Zone boss strategy:

[spoiler=3]The Africa Zone boss is a swordfish that swims around a circle shaped area in a counterclockwise rotation. He cannot be damaged head on, and you will lose health if you touch his sword.

He also swims fairly quickly, so chasing after him is not very effective.

The most effective strategy is to hold your position, or swim clockwise. As he approaches, angle yourself to attack his back or belly at a 90 degree angle. Spam :circle: to attack rapidly and deal damage. It should only take 2-3 attack patterns to kill him.

You can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/2C8.jpgFREEZER PLEASERhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Complete the Arctic zone

Story related, cannot be missed. Unlocks upon completion of the last of the 8 levels in the Arctic Zone.

Arctic Zone boss strategy:

[spoiler=4]The Arctic Zone boss is an alienfish. He swims side to side, and periodically rotates 90 degrees to show his face and attack. Only his back is vulnerable to attack.

As he swims from side to side, his back points to the surface and can be damaged by either :circle: or :cross: attacks. He is one of the easier bosses to defeat.

As with the other bosses, you can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/2F7.jpgBACKWARDS FLYING JIGhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Finish level in the air with Derrick in reverse

Can be done on the first level. As you approach the finish line, swim to the surface and cross the line while in the air. As you approach the finish, flick the left stick to the left to turn Derrick backwards. The third level is another good location for this, as you will be in the air already when you cross the finish line, so you just have to flick the stick to turn around.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/CEC.jpgBACKWARDS JIGhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Finish level with Derrick in reverse

Actually harder than Backwards Flying Jig as when you press the left stick, Derrick stops. You need to approach with speed, holding :r2: and pressing :circle: to get a little extra boost, then quickly flick the left stick. Can be done on any level, but may take a couple of tries to get the timing right. An easy locaton to try is the first speed level, as there are chillies right before the finish line which will help propel you forward.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/ED4.jpgHOARD REWARDhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Collect all the objects in a level

Can be done on any score level. Just get all the gems and jump through all flaming tires. You will get this naturally en route to Excellence Obsession, and can be achieved on the first level of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/650.jpgVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Get a gold medal

Can get this in any score level, if you beat the gold score target. See Unrivalled Brilliance for tips on reaching the gold medal targets. This can be achieved on the first level of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/B3D.jpgSPEED NEEDhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Get a gold medal in a speed level

Can get this in any speed level if you beat the gold target time. See Unrivalled Brilliance for tips on reaching the gold medal targets. This can first be achieved on the fourth level of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/6CF.jpgTON OF FUNhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Eat 100 creatures in a level

The first opportunity to get this is the third level in the first Zone. You will need to eat all of the creatures on that level. Otherwise you will get this naturally while trying for the gold medal scores, as some of the later levels have well over 100 creatures.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1536/904.jpgCARDBIRDhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Eat a flock of birds

You can get this by jumping above the surface and eating all of the birds in a flock. You don't need to do this in one jump. There are a flock of 2 birds found in the very first level of the game, which present an easy opportunity to get this out of the way early. Otherwise, birds appear in levels throughout the game, typically in flocks of 4-5. The trophy pops shortly after you eat the last bird in the flock.

Maybe include some boss fight tips?

Embarrassingly enough, I'm a bit confused on the Asia boss haha.

Good suggestion, I will add that for each of the levels.

In the meantime, for the Asia Zone boss....

[spoiler=1]The Asia Zone boss is a stingray that swims side to side. He can only be damaged by attacking his underbelly. You will lose health if you touch his tail stinger or head regions.

The belly is hard to attack, and you cannot damage it from above. You need to use the two entrances from below (this is how you approach the battle to begin) - there is one entrance on each side. You can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

And the Africa Zone boss...

[spoiler=2]The Africa Zone boss is a swordfish that swims around a circle shaped area in a counterclockwise rotation. He cannot be damaged head on, and you will lose health if you touch his sword.

He also swims fairly quickly, so chasing after him is not very effective.

The most effective strategy is to hold your position, or swim clockwise. As he approaches angle yourself to attack his back or belly at a 90 degree angle. Spam :circle: to attack rapidly and deal maximal damage. It should only take 2-3 attack patterns to kill him.

You can recharge your health using any of the nearby schools of food, which are plentiful. Do not eat all of them in one go, just eat enough to maximize your health meter. You can clean them all out once you defeat the boss in order to reach the gold medal target.

holy hell, this guide got up pretty quickly, congrats.

Update: just finished 100% the game and what a wonderful cute game. I wish the ending was a big longer and that was probably the shortest credits scene ever. I honestly cannot believe this game was made with such a small team since I thought the credits was going to name like a hundred people or more.

I would pay for DLC if this game ever does add DLC which I highly doubt.
