Demon's Souls Collection Guide

The lion’s share of Demon’s Souls’ trophies are unlocked through the collection and, in most cases, usage of various items. The “Sage’s Trophy” and “Saint’s Trophy” are unlocked through the collection and exchange of Demon’s Souls for the knowledge of spells and miracles, respectively. The “Rogue’s Trophy” is unlocked through the collection of rings. The “Soldier’s Trophy” is unlocked through the collection of unique weapons and, in a few instances, advanced forging with collected Demon’s Souls. Lastly, The “Best Weapon By…” trophies are unlocked through the collection and usage of upgrade stones.

The goal of this guide is to provide you with the information required to unlock these collection-related trophies. Constructive criticism would be appreciated, acted upon and, of course, credited.

Using Demon's Souls

Demon’s Souls are obtained by killing bosses, sub-bosses and Primeval Demons, which only appear with Pure Black World Tendency (see my Demon’s Souls Tendency FAQ for more information, including the location of the 5 Primeval Demons.). A Demon’s Soul is also rewarded for obtaining each of the game’s two endings. These special Souls are used to forge unique weapons (Blacksmith Ed), learn spells (Sage Freke and Yuria The Witch) and learn miracles (Saint Urbain):

+ Whether or not you receive the 'good' or 'evil' ending to the game is determined by whether or not you decide to kill the Maiden In Black in the Finale. Leaving the Maiden In Black unharmed triggers the 'good' ending, which earns you the Maiden In Black Demon's Soul and the "World Uniter's Trophy" trophy. On subsequent playthroughs, I recommend killing the Maiden In Black, which triggers the 'evil' ending and earns you the Beast Demon's Soul, which, when consumed, earns you a whopping 200,000 Souls. The 'evil' ending also earns you the Red Eye Stone, which is used to initiate Player-Versus-Player (PvP) duels.

++ Primeval Demons only appear with Pure Black World Tendency. See my Demon’s Souls Tendency FAQ for more information, including the locations of the Primeval Demons.

”Sage’s Trophy”

Sage Freke and Yuria The Witch are the game’s two advanced spell teachers. Both have to be rescued before your character can learn advanced spells.

Sage Freke is being held captive in the Prison of Hope in 3-1. The key to his cell is on the right-side balcony of the church where you face Fool’s Idol. Take the spiral staircase to the right-side balcony of the church, where you will find a dregling (“the Liar”) who begs you not to kill him. The key is on the wall directly behind him.

Yuria is locked in a tower in 1-3, located just beyond a locked gate in the courtyard where you are attacked by the wolves at the beginning of the level. Progress through 1-3 as you normally would, obtaining the Iron Ring of Keys and Official’s Hat by killing two of the level’s Fat Officials. Backtrack to 1-2 to a locked door just before the Tower Knight archstone and descend into a dungeon, where you will find another Fat Official, who, when killed, drops the Bloody Key, which unlocks the 1-3 courtyard gate. Before heading there, note that this dungeon also contains Biorr, a Crystal Lizard and some treasure. Upon entering the tower where Yuria is being held, equip the Official’s Hat, which prevents the Fat Official inside from attacking you until you attack him. Eliminate him with a backstab or two, then remove the Official’s Hat before talking to Yuria.

Any Spell Teacher

  • Cloak: 500 Souls
  • Demon’s Prank: 500 Souls
  • Flame Toss: 1000 Souls
  • Enchant Weapon: 5000 Souls
  • Protection: 5000 Souls
  • Soul Arrow: 1000 Souls
  • Water Veil: 500 Souls

Sage Freke

  • Acid Cloud: Eroded Demon’s Soul (Dirty Colossus)
  • Death Cloud: Pureblood Demon’s Soul (Maiden Astraea)
  • Fireball: Dragon Demon’s Soul (Dragon God)
  • Fire Spray: Hard Demon’s Soul (Armor Spider)
  • Homing Soul Arrow: Yellow Demon’s Soul (Old Monk)
  • Light Weapon: Silver Demon’s Soul (Penetrator)
  • Poison Cloud: Wriggling Demon’s Soul (Leechmonger)
  • Soul Ray: Doll Demon’s Soul (Fool’s Idol)
  • Warding: Iron Demon’s Soul (Tower Knight)

Yuria The Witch

  • Cursed Weapon: Silver Demon’s Soul (Penetrator)
  • Firestorm: Dragon Demon’s Soul (Dragon God)
  • Ignite: Hard Demon’s Soul (Armor Spider)
  • Relief: Pureblood Demon’s Soul (Maiden Astraea)
  • Soulsucker: Maiden In Black Demon’s Soul (obtain the game’s ‘good’ ending)
  • Soul Thirst: Yellow Demon’s Soul (Old Monk)

To use spells, you will need a Catalyst. The Wooden Catalyst can be found in 1-2 atop the first tower on the bridge and in 3-1 in a prison cell on the third floor. The more powerful Silver Catalyst can be found in a room in 3-1, opposite the room where you encounter "the Liar". The Royalty class's default equipment includes the Silver Catalyst.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/245/04.jpg

”Saint’s Trophy”

Before learning advanced miracles, you will have to rescue Saint Urbain, who is found in a hole in 4-2. After your encounter with the first Reaper, head down the stairs and make a right, following the Augites of Guidance on the ground. Assuming Patches is still alive, he will “help” you into the hole in the ground where you will find Saint Urbain. With a Thief’s Ring or Graverobber’s Ring equipped, snipe the Black Phantom from the opposite side of the room with your bow and arrows, enabling Saint Urbain’s escape… and yours.

Any Miracle Teacher

  • Antidote: 3000 Souls
  • Evacuation: 20000 Souls
  • Heal: 5000 Souls
  • Hidden Soul: 3000 Souls

Saint Urbain

  • Anti-Magic Field: Storm Demon’s Soul (Storm King)
  • Banish: Yellow Demon’s Soul (Old Monk)
  • Cure: Wriggling Demon’s Soul (Leechmonger)
  • God’s Wrath: Dragon Demon’s Soul (Dragon God)
  • Recovery: 3 Colorless Demon’s Souls (Primeval Demons) +
  • Regeneration: Swollen Demon’s Soul (Adjudicator)
  • Resurrection: Pureblood Demon’s Soul (Maiden Astraea)
  • Second Chance: Hero Demon’s Soul (Old Hero)

To use miracles, you will need a Talisman. The Talisman of God can be found in 4-1 to the right of the first fog gate, as well as in 5-1. The Filthy Woman of 5-1 and 5-2 will also sell you a Talisman of God for 5000 souls. The Temple Knight and Priest classes' default equipment includes the Talisman of God. The Talisman of Beasts, which also casts spells, can be obtained by killing Black Phantom Scirvir in 2-2, or as a reward for completing a side quest for Mephistopheles. Both require Pure Black Character Tendency.

+ You must kill a Primeval Demon before this miracle becomes available. Primeval Demons only appear with Pure Black World Tendency. See my Demon’s Souls Tendency FAQ for more information, including the location of the 5 Primeval Demons.

Crystal Lizards

It’s important to know the locations of the game’s Crystal Lizards (also known as Crystal Geckos), as they drop rare Upgrade Stones, some of which can’t be found anywhere else. Note that Crystal Lizards respawn a limited number of times, which is related to how many bosses you’ve killed in that World. For instance, once the first Crystal Lizard in Stonefang Tunnel (2-1) is killed or escapes, it will not respawn until you’ve beaten that level’s boss, the Armor Spider.

Crystal Lizards move quickly, and need to be killed quickly. Playing in Soul Form and wearing the Thief’s Ring helps reduce your visibility. Additionally, they don’t seem to be able to see you when you’re rolling. Crystal Lizards are non-aggressive foes, so don't be afraid to move right in and give them everything you've got.

Boletarian Palace (1-1)

  • The first Crystal Lizard is found in a field beyond the gate to Executioner Miralda’s tower, just to the left of the archstone. Requires Pure White or Pure Black World Tendency. +

Phalanx Archstone (1-2)

  • On the second floor in the building just before the Tower Knight Archstone.
  • In the dungeon where you rescue Biorr (requires the Iron Ring of Keys found in 1-3).

Tower Knight Archstone (1-3)

  • After passing through the courtyard at the beginning of the level, look to the right as you’re heading up the stairs to find a Crystal Lizard.

Penetrator Archstone (1-4)

  • Hiding behind the dragon’s corpse at the beginning of the level.
  • Found shortly after the level’s first Crystal Lizard, progress through the level normally and you’ll encounter this one in an alleyway.
  • At the end of the path where you encounter the Blue Dragon and two Fat Ministers.

Stonefang Tunnel (2-1)

  • After spawning at the archstone, go up the stairs and head straight. You’ll find this one towards the end of a dead-end path.
  • Next to a pushcart guarded by several Lizard Men, some of which through giant rocks at you.

Armor Spider Archstone (2-2)

  • Directly in front of you as you spawn at the archstone.
  • Heading left from the fork where you encountered the level’s first Crystal Lizard, continue heading straight through a passageway that leads outside to find another hiding behind some debris.
  • Taking the elevator to the lower level, you will find two Crystal Lizard where you encountered the two generic Black Phantoms.
  • On a path just before the Filthy Man vendor.
  • You will find two Crystal Lizards behind a giant Bear Bug at a dead-end in the maze of tunnels near the giant lava pool.
  • Heading right from the fork where you encountered the level’s first Crystal Lizard, carefully descend to the tunnel where Scirvir is found to find two more Crystal Lizards.
  • On a wooden plank at the top of a ladder where you encounter 3 Rock Worms just outside of the area where you battle the Flamelurker boss.

Flamelurker Archstone (2-3)

  • In a small room to the left at the end of the starting passageway.
  • Next to the second spear gun used in the battle against the Dragon God boss.

Tower Of Latria (3-1)

  • You’ll find this Crystal Lizard in a hallway behind the Legion, an enemy made up of several corpses stitched together.

Fool’s Idol Archstone (3-2)

  • Taking the stairs up from the swamp area, you’ll find this Crystal Lizard hiding behind some Face Bugs.

Maneater’s Archstone (3-3)

  • At the top of the stairs just before your encounter with the Old Monk boss.

Shrine of Storms (4-1)

  • On a ledge, accessible from the area where you meet Sparkly the Crow.
  • On the path that leads to the Regenerator’s Ring, beyond a door to your left after facing the three Golden Skeleton enemies.

Adjudicator Archstone (4-2)

  • Facing the stairs where you had your first Reaper encounter, enter the doorway to the left and head up the stairs to a walled-off partition. Hit this wall with your sword to reveal a hidden passage containing a Dual Katana Black Skeleton. Head through this passage and up the cliff path (which also leads to a White Bow) to find a Crystal Lizard.

Old Hero Archstone (4-3)

  • Two Crystal Lizards are found near where you extract the Storm Ruler sword during the Storm King boss battle. Snipe at least one with your bow and arrows from the archstone, as sprinting towards them will almost always result in one of them escaping.

Valley of Defilement (5-1)

  • Found on the other side of a chasm near the Rats’ nest. You will initially have to go around, but will be able to lower the bridge to it for subsequent runs.

Leechmonger Archstone (5-2)

  • Heading from the archstone along the cliff path, you’ll come to a gap with a Crystal Lizard on the other side. You will initially have to go around, but will be able to lower the bridge to it for subsequent runs.

Dirty Colossus Archstone (5-3)

  • Behind a fence along the pathway to the right of the entrance.

"Duping"

The time it takes to earn the Platinum can be drastically reduced by "duping" items. You can "dupe" many of the games items, including but not limited to grasses, spice, arrows, bolts, Stones of Ephemeral Eyes, Upgrade Stones and Demon's Souls. Being able to "dupe" Demon's Souls allows you to easily raise your Soul Level, as well as forge all of the game's unique weapons, spells and miracles in a single playthrough. While it won't put that Pure Bladestone that you've been farming for three weeks and still don't have into your inventory, it will ensure that you never run out of the Upgrade Stones that you do have. Kahalachan has a helpful walkthrough:

1. Take all the items you want to dupe from Thomas. Make sure he has none of that item in his inventory. The glitch is caused by Thomas not having any of the items in his inventory.

2. Either hotkey a shard of archstone or have the Evacuate spell ready to go.

3. Talk to Boldwin, select an item to buy, have it on the screen that says how many of that item you want to buy.

4. Walk away. Boldwin will start to say "What's the hurry? Where you off to? Haven't you any manners?"

5. In the middle of Boldwin's dialogue, spam the button where you have shard of archstone or Evacuate hotkeyed.

6. When the option to return to the Nexus comes up, push start to remove that screen. Do not select yes or no. Simply push start to get rid of that screen.

7. Deposit the item to Thomas you want to dupe. Exit out of this screen as fast as you can so you don't actually evacuate to the Nexus. The items will still dupe but this saves you time and won't use up shards of archstones.

8. What happens now is that the animation for returning to the Nexus will start. When you go to Thomas to claim the item you deposited to him it will show over 100 of that item in his inventory. But we all know the max Thomas can hold is 99. Take your items back from Thomas and he'll show 99 still and you'll also get tons of copies of that item.

Marciomastodon illustrates this process in this video:

Thanks to Kahalachan for bringing this to my attention, as well as Loscycos for apparently making the initial discovery.

Like I said, the class you chose at the beginning have no influence in your game, you can use any equips as long you have the required stats. Your class only dictates your starting gear and stats, other than that, it's up to you, you can start of as a mage (royalty) and finish the game being a melee.

I'm confused about the demon's souls that can be used with different NPCs. Are they gone once you use them with an NPC?

Yes, each Demon's Souls can only be used once per playthroughs. So to get them all (spell and miracles), you need more than one playthroughs ;)

[*] Large Sword of Moonlight: Found in 5-1 after knocking down the slug nest near the fog gate.

Sorry for the double post (just wanted to be sure this one was read), but this is a little mistake as long as slug nest is located in 5-2 and not 5-1.

(I've looked for this slug nest a long time in 5-1 and just found it in 5-2 )

Thanks, that's what I thought. I was confused because some of the stones have 4 different uses but the guide says only 3 playthroughs are needed for the platinum. I assume it says 3 and not 4 because you don't actually have to complete the 4th one.
