Introduction

Welcome back to another installment of Deathspank. Unaware of the myth of The Baconing, the hero DeathSpank, on a boring day in Spanktopia, decided to try on all of the undergarments at once. Much to his surprise, the result had nothing to do with chafing or wedgies, but rather the summoning of an evil incarnation of himself, the AntiSpank.

Balance can only be restored to the world by entering the Fires of Bacon and destroying five of the thongs. Now, DeathSpank travels the lands to find a sizzling solution to vanquish the AntiSpank and bring about peace once again to Spanktopia. (Source: The Baconing)

Roadmap

Step 1: Complete the game on any difficulty

The game is very linear and quests are straightforward this time around, and there are no missable trophies. Play and enjoy the game normally and you'll unlock the following naturally by the end of the game. If you need help with the puzzles, do refer to Game Over Man! for solutions

  • Tea, Earl Grey, hot. (B)
  • Blade Ruiner (B)
  • Stay On Target. (B)
  • Game Over Man! (S)

These trophies below will require a bit of work either by repeating an action in combat or completing sidequests, but none are even remotely close to difficult.

  • Bashing Success (B) - Shield Bash 1000 Times.
  • Never tell me the odds (S) - Perform a 10x attack chain.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever? (B) - Become a God. [sidequest]
  • Reflectology (S) - Reflect 100 Ranged Attacks.
  • Are you not entertained? (B) - Become the Tournament Champion.[sidequest]
  • Take a #3 (B) - Find all 41 Outhouses.
  • Predator (B) - Kill 2000 Enemies

Step 2: Complete the game on Insane difficulty

There are no noticeable differences between Insane and the rest of the difficulties (), and you'll already know what to do this time around. Just complete the game again for Death Blossom (G)

Program a Replicator.

This is your main objective after you’ve started the game and shortly after come across Doorphan who gives you the quest. The Replicator machine is the next to Doorphan, and can only be operated by inserting punch cards #3, #5 and #4 in that order. You’ll be automatically given Cards #3 & #4.

For #5, you have to follow the path leading east all the way to the end where there is a “Hole Punch” machine, next to a Weapon Vendor. Insert a blank punch card into the machine to create Card #5. Go back and use the Replicator machine.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/02.jpg Bashing Success (B)

Shield Bash 1000 Times.

To Shield Bash, you have to hold :r2: until Deathspank flashes, then release it when enemies are around him to bash them away. You can farm this on any group of melee enemies, even at the start of the game, by cornering them and repeatedly performing this action as it does no damage. You can check your progress by using the “Book-O-Stats” in the Inventory tab.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/03.jpg Never tell me the odds (S)

Perform a 10x attack chain.

You perform an attack chain when you mix up attacks from different weapons. An example is to alternate between two melee weapons (:cross: :square: :cross: :square: … ) until you build up 10 hits, which is a 10x attack chain. This can be done on multiple enemies though its easier to do on large enemies with long health bars and bosses so you can always lock on to them by holding :l2:.

Alternatively, ghosts (near Ghostly Outhouse in the starting zone) are good targets to try this on as normal weapons can't hurt them, but your hits still register and you can still perform an attack chain.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/04.jpg Blade Ruiner (B)

Kill 100 Cyborques.

Any defeated enemy whose name starts with “Cyborque ….” counts for this trophy. You’ll get it naturally as you progress because the many areas are full of them and the game is pretty linear. You can check your progress by using the “Book-O-Stats” in the Inventory tab.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/05.jpg Who Wants to Live Forever? (B)

Become a God.

[spoiler=god]You obtain this trophy by completing Zeus’ sidequests “First Labor” “Second Labor” and “Twelfth Labor” in Valhalla Heights. Despite the titles, you only have to perform 3 feats, which are:

  1. First Labor - Clear out his garden of hostile plants
  2. Second Labor - Lure the Thorsian goats in the southeast of his estate to the back his estate and let them attack the Goat Thistles there
  3. Twelfth Labor - Defeat Berabus in Hels Half Acres (north of Smelly Outhouse)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/06.jpg Reflectology (S)

Reflect 100 Ranged Attacks.

To reflect a Ranged Attack (Arrows, Energy Orbs), hold :r2: until Deathspank flashes, then release it just as the projectile is about to hit you to reflect it back at the originator, which causes damage. You can check your progress by using the “Book-O-Stats” in the Inventory tab.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/07.jpg Stay On Target. (B)

Reach Level 20.

As long as you are diligent in completing sidequests given and killing every enemy in your progress to the next area, you’ll max out at Level 20 around the time you enter Hel’s Half Acre, which is the last zone of the game. Otherwise, just grind kills in this zone until you hit Level 20.

  2. Sail north to Talking Stick Peninsula, enter the cave, interact with the Empty Glass and use "Well Bucket with Barnacled Water" then talk with the Wellkeeper and ask him to have a drink.

Become the Tournament Champion.

The Arena is located in Forbidden City in the Forbidden Zone. There are 20 Matches that you must pass before you are crowned Tournament Champion. Each match is an individual sidequest that is undertaken from the Tournament Announcer at the entrance. A Weapon Vendor and Potions Vendor are located to his left so you can replenish any items you want conveniently.

Matches 1-5 can be done while you’re at Level 5

Matches 6-13 can be done while you’re at Level 10

Matches 13-20 are best undertaken when you’re at Level 19-20. Bring along Orbs of Invulnerability and plenty of Health Potions.

Make sure to activate them by going up to the Outhouse and press :cross: to enable teleportation. A map is shown below which lists each Outhouse in the order of which you'll encounter them:

Beat the game on Insane difficulty.

Insane difficulty is unlocked after you’ve beat the game once on any difficulty. There is no New Game+. Reloading your last completed playthrough and changing the difficulty won't work either. As far as I can tell the game plays the same and there is no noticeable difference in damage received and dealt by you even when compared with Downtrodden (Very Easy) difficulty.

You are advised to pick the Health and Damage upgrades each time you level up to give yourself an easier time, instead of picking the other less beneficial upgrades. Stock up on Health Potions and Invulnerability Orbs before the final battle because you'll need them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1036/12.jpg Predator (S)

Kill 2000 Enemies

You can check your progress by using the “Book-O-Stats” in the Inventory tab. It needs to be 2000 kills in a single save file, not across multiple save files. Upon completion of your first playthrough you’ll likely be somewhere in the range of 1400-1600 kills. Reload the same save file and grind the rest of your kills in the early zones such as Forbidden Zone and Forest of Tomorrow where you’ll overpower enemies easily with your current level.

Killing neutral critters (chickens) using weapons count, but environmental kills (via exploding barrels etc..) do NOT count.

I'm stuck on the casino bacon fire... I can't defeat the opera guy :S tips

Stay away from the Spotlight, the Conductor will chase you but his only attack is a lightning zap from time to time. While he's not attacking you can run around eating food to heal up yourself, or use range attacks.

If you are feeling confident, or are strong enough, use an Invulnerability Orb and melee him until the orb expires. A Nature or Death/Unholy weapon will come in useful.

When he summons musicians and other goons, defeat the musicians first as they heal him when they play music.

Glad to see I'm not crazy when I noticed practically no difference in the damage dealt/taken on Insane compared to my first playthrough (on Downtrodden). The only difference I've been able to notice is that enemies don't seem to drop much cash, if at all, compared to the easier mode(s). Golden keys seem to be a bit rarer (I only seem to have about 3 on me at any one time compared to about 6+ on Downtrodden) but that could just be based on luck anyway and perhaps I was luckier in my first run.

Nice job on the guide/roadmap, yewjhin. If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you could list some of the simpler but otherwise time-consuming puzzles/quests in the Game Over Man! and/or Death Blossom section to save some time. Like the names of the 4 dead citizens of Forbidden City for the ballot-tampering, or the solutions to Z.I.M.O.N.'s memory puzzle. Just little things like that to save some time for those that have or haven't completed the game seem like they would be of great help.

Good idea, I'll update it when I've completed Insane.

Of course you're doing a guide for this .

Can you free roam after completing the story, or should I make an effort to go for all the missable trophies on the way?

Yes, you can free roam after completing the story. Better yet, the stats from all of your game saves will count if you're going for stat-related trophies or whatever.

So, if you have 10 kills on one game save and 10 kills on a different game save, you will actually have 20 total kills towards the kill-related trophy.

I can't figure out the islands, what do I need to do to get talking stick? I know I have to fill the water glass, but where do I get water ??

There should be an island called Well something or at least has that in the name. Go there and put the barnacles in the well water. Then, fill your bucket with the barnacle water.
