Introduction:

You are FBI Agent Francis York Morgan (call him York, everyone does) sent to investigate the gruesome murder of 18 year old Anna Graham in this sleepy town. With the help of your trusty invisible friend Zach you've got to deal with the bizarre locals, fight your way past the shadows in the "Other World" and survive encounters with the legendary Raincoat Killer to reveal the truth.

We can do this Zach!

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play the Game

The game has no difficulty settings and, from what I've heard from those that have played this on the Xbox 360, this would be on easy mode so just enjoy the madness of Greenvale! Sidequests can be done as and when but there are two that you should do as soon as possible i.e. Lost Arnold and Nameless Flower. Doing these makes the game much easier as they give you an item that allows you to fast travel, thus saving you from driving everywhere!

WARNING: Key Items Disappearing Glitch

There is a game-breaking bug that will make it so you have to restart the entire game over. It involves key items vanishing from your inventory.

How the glitch happens is by you getting a key item in a chapter you're playing (for example the Rod of Legends for catching Tabitha or one of the various literal keys you are given in certain chapters) then quitting out to the main menu before finishing that chapter and instead of continuing, replaying an old chapter.

This is easily avoided by not quitting out and replaying old chapters until you've reached the very start of the next chapter. Or indeed wait right until the very last chapter of the game before going back and replaying them. Just be careful and make sure to create a backup save on usb if you are going to use chapter select before reaching the final chapter.

NOTE: Check every marked building you drive past to see if it is "open". If it is then enter it, just walking through the door and back out again is enough to register it onto your Fast Travel locations list.

In this step you will earn:

(B)(H) Prologue CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 1 CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 2 (part 1) CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 2 (part 2) CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 3 CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 4 CLEARED

(B)(H) Episode 5 CLEARED

(S)(H) Episode 6 CLEARED

(G)(H) Episode 7 CLEARED

These unlock after the Cleared Screen at the end of each episode.

Step 2: Sidequests/Chapter Select/Card Collecting

There are 50 Sidequests in Deadly Premonition, each one giving you a trophy when completed. To check which Sidequests you have completed go to the map in the pause menu and press :r1:. Look at the Sidequests section of the walkthrough for details on each individual quest, here is how each one is set out:

Sidequest #? - The in-game Sidequest number.

Chapters Available: The chapters in which the Sidequest can be completed.

Requirements: Any Sidequests that need to be completed prior to this being available.

Sidequest Giver/Location: Firstly the character that initiates the. quest/and then the location they can be found.

Reward: What items you receive after completing the quest.

Unlocks: Which Sidequests become available after completing this quest.

The Chapter Select function will be used a lot here, make sure you save at the end of each chapter and then go into the pause menu and return to the title screen right at the start of a new chapter. This will hopefully help avoid any potential issues. Choose the chapter for the relevant Sidequest, complete the quest then complete the chapter (you cannot save during a replayed chapter so you must complete it). This takes you back to the Chapter Select screen, select resume to continue on from where you originally saved. Any items you have carry over with you through Chapter Select, this is useful if you get in a spot of bother and need some health, just go back to a chapter and buy some to take back with you!

There are 65 Trading Cards to collect in the game and you require 64 to get the Platinum. For Trading Card Locations see Top Collector.

Helpful Hints:

Use the Map! - At the bottom of this guide is a map of Greenvale, use it to help whenever you get lost and to help with collectibles.

Check the Time - Most events in the game are time specific i.e. can only take place between 09.00 and 14.00, use the clock that is located on your HUD's minimap to make sure you're on time.

Combat - You can acquire infinite ammo weapons through certain Sidequests (Map To Psychic Spot A, Map To Psychic Spot B, Map To Psychic Spot C, Snack for Willie, Ghost House Treasure). Don't forget that :r2: auto locks onto the nearest enemy. For melee, use the quicker weapons like Steel Pipe, Bar or best of all the Sidequest reward infinite endurance Wrench (Engagement Ring). You cannot move when aiming your gun but can when using melee weapons so bear that in mind.

NOTE: There is a third option, run! You can run past most enemies and areas with no problem, the enemies are easy to dodge.

Money - You should never have a cash problem in this game, killing enemies, picking up Agent Honors (small medals lying around certain areas) and even shaving gives you money! If you ever get really short then replay an "Other World" section to farm some as there are lots of enemies and Agent Honors as well as multiple exits for a quick escape.

Start Button - Pressing the Start Button (:start:) will skip most animations reducing the annoyingly long sequences of getting in and out of a car and looking at new items/cards. If you run (hold down :l2:) when you reach a door then press :cross:, you will barge through instead of slowly opening it.

Watch Your Pulse! - If your pulse gets too high and reaches the end of the bar, you will start to walk slowly and not be able to sprint until the bar has completely depleted, this leaves you helpless against attack so be careful!

The Graveyard Time Trick - Near the bed in Albireo Graveyard is a never-ending supply of Green Tomatoes. This means you can sleep here, then eat the free food to refill your hunger gauge. Perfect for when you're trying to find the right time and weather for a Sidequest. When your hunger gauge is empty you start to lose life over time, but luckily sleeping refills your health so you won't die in your sleep and you don't need to eat after every nap.

NOTE: This can also be done at the Tree of Anna, there are infinite tins of pickle at this location near the shed you sleep in. Credit to Boyd12 for this tip.

Fishing - Buy a fishing rod from Polly at the hotel when she is at the reception desk as early as possible, along with some bait. This is because at all the fishing spots on the map there is a Trading Card. These are marked on the spinning reel as a Pink Present, to land on the right card you need to press :cross: about 3 cards before it. Sometimes it varies between 2, 3 and 4 cards before but as long as you don't land on Emily's face you don't lose your bait. I got all the fishing cards without having to re-buy anymore than the 6 original bait, but you should buy at least 12 just to be safe.

NOTE: Behind The Woodkeeper's Cabin near the Tree of Anna there are 3 fishing spots close together, there is only one card here so you do not need to fish at all 3. Near the Lumber Mill there are 2 fishing spots, the one closest to the sleeping spot is where you'll catch the card.

Wall Crawler - The girl from the ring is coming to get you! Shine your light on her and she becomes visible, shoot her when she's in this state. Evade her attack when she's on the ground with :circle:, 3 shots with the Magnum (Snack For Willie reward) is all it takes and she'll go down.

Tree Attack - Inside the "Other World" version of the art gallery you'll reach a tree. Shoot the apples off it's branches then place the Ripe Apple on the pedestal near the painting of an old man, the Green Apple with the baby and the Red Apple with the middle aged chap. You have to do this before the time runs out or it's retry time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/B54.jpgEpisode 3 CLEARED (B) (H)

Zach, OK. So it's not bonus footage, it's still part of the main feature. The perpetrator is exactly who I thought it was.

This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed.

Ep 3 Hints and Tips:

[spoiler=Ep3tips]Harry's Mansion Umbrella Puzzle - Just after entering the door Michael has opened by moving the piano, you will see a red sparkle near a stand with some sheet music on it. Examine it to find that 3, 5 and 6 are the only songs left. Go on from here to see a door guarded by two statues. Run around the outside of this room entering every door. Inside each room next to the door is an umbrella, pick it up. Once you have them all enter the central room from one of the side entrances, then place the umbrellas on the soldiers. From left to right, give the first to the soldier in Room 3, second in Room 5 and the third in Room 6. This will unlock the door guarded by the statues you saw earlier and allow you to continue.

Harry's Mansion Statue Pushing Puzzle - Another simple puzzle, another stand with numbers. This time the numbers are 14, 23 and 26. In the courtyard area further into the house are some pushable statues on a grid. Just push the statues so that the point they're on adds up to the 3 numbers so on point 10/4, 20/3 and 20/6. This will unlock the door guarded by statues in the courtyard.

Hide from the Killer - Once more under the table and hold your breath when prompted.

Light Switch Puzzle - Hit the left light switch twice and the right one once. This should shine red light from both sides on the door and unlock it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/BB0.jpgEpisode 4 CLEARED (B) (H)

Ah, right, he doesn't have a "tattoo" on his back. But there is a "pattern" there.

This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed.

Ep 4 Hints and Tips:

[spoiler=Ep4tips]Sheriff's Department Cell Keys - Inside the Sheriff's Department's "Other World" version you'll need to collect the keys to the cells downstairs. These keys are dropped by the enemies (only 1 per room max and don't forget to open the automated draws in the Files Room) and you'll find every key but Key 5. Open the cells downstairs and kill the monsters within, one will drop Key 5 and you can continue.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/826.jpgEpisode 5 CLEARED (B) (H)

Zach, I need you to pray with me. Pray that things have not gone too far. All we can do is go to the location written in Kaysen's letter.

This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed.

Ep 5 Hints and Tips:

[spoiler=Ep5tips]Deer Head Room - Just melee hit the upside down deer heads to remove the antlers from the door and continue.

Raincoat Killer Fight - The Magnum is the best weapon for this. Avoid his attacks with quick time events and then shoot the mark on his back, wait until the crosshair shrinks before firing. In his second form shoot his back or the scar on his cheek. When you cannot move except for to dodge his axe, aim and shoot the axe as it's coming towards you to finish the fight.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/80B.jpgEpisode 6 CLEARED (S) (H)

My name is York. Me and you, we'll always be together. OK, Zach? I'm you, and you are me. Now, give me your hand.

This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed.

Ep 6 Hints and Tips:

[spoiler=Ep6tips]1956 - Once the timer appears after the cutscene of a gate being opened run for the target at full speed. Do not try to kill anyone as time is tight and if you do, you won't make it.

Boss Fight (Stage 1) - Aim for his head and avoid his rolling attacks, magnum again the gun of choice.

Boss Fight (Stage 2) - Run! This goes on for a while, I found moving the left analogue stick in a complete circle was the best way.

Boss Fight (Stage 3) - Avoid his shockwave attacks and shoot the doll in his hand, when he hides the doll and slams his fist on the floor run to it to climb up. When on his shoulder get the Submachine gun out and shoot at the doll inside his chest pocket.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/AE6.jpgEpisode 7 CLEARED (G) (H)

Then this is goodbye, Zach. Thank you for everything.

This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed.

Ep 7 Hints and Tips:

[spoiler=Ep7tips]Sidequests/Trading Cards - If you still have any left go ahead and save at a phone and use the chapter select to finish them off.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1448/E18.jpgLegendary Tabatha (B) (H)

You'll never catch [Tabatha] with your current fishing rod. Borrow the legendary fishing rod from Jim and try again. [Tabatha] appears near the waterfall only on rainy days.

Go to the Forest Keeper's Cabin (marked as Greenvale Forest Park on the fast travel menu) and fish at the fishing spot that's marked as a notepad on your map on a rainy morning. Land on the blue card with the large fish, you will fail to catch it. Go and talk to Jim in the Forest Keeper's Cabin at around 10:00 and get the Rod of Legends. Go back and fish the same spot again, this time catching Tabatha!

NOTE: Before attempting to catch Tabatha make sure you have at least 12 bait (can buy from Polly at the hotel or at the Milk Barn) with you just in case. Also make sure that once you've received the Rod of Legends that you go straight back and catch Tabatha, if you end the chapter before doing so it may cause you to lose the Rod and not be able to get it back meaning you'd have to start a new game to get this trophy!

Unlocks: none

This isn't as tricky as you'd believe. Buy the dart gun from Richard then play the darts minigame. Aim with :l1: as usual and use :r2: to hold your breath and steady your aim. Don't hold your breath all the time or your pulse will get so high you will be shaking non stop and won't stand a chance. Your final dart should hit the bullseye and get you 500 points so you need to be at least 1518 before then, if you hit the trebles (the thin middle strips) of the highest numbered flashing segments you should get this no problem.

NOTE: You also need to get second and third place on the score board for some Trading Cards, so whilst you're in the groove get them. If you're struggling use a Stabilizer before playing.

To check which cards you are missing, go to the pause menu and open the Trading Card Collection Book.

Please use this fantastic guide written by MsFuruba to help you find all the cards that you're missing: Trading Card Guide.

All card locations in the area you are in can be seen on the map as a green card with the upside down Peace Symbol on it. They look just like any other pickup from a distance but once you get close to it you will see a green card hover over the usual blue ring. Some of the cards require you to shoot a bird's nest out of a tree next to where the map says the card is. The bird's nest will be giving off a blue glow and once shot will drop the card nearby. The card near White Spruce Farm can only be obtained when it is raining.

Once you have enough cards enter the Panda Bear between 20:00 and 06:00 and speak to Wesley. You get a prize for returning 8 cards (Trading Card #32), 16 (Panda Bear Card), 32 (Passion Red Suit *increases your health bar*), 48 (Dancing All Night Suit *pulse increases more slowly) and 64 (Light Sword).

Reward: Trading Card #34

Unlocks: Cold Pot 2

This is another series of Sidequests that can't be done consecutively, so move the story on or replay chapters to get it.

Now these are annoying, not because they're hard but because of Sigourney's whining so be prepared to mute your TV. Find her at one of the two locations mentioned above then drive her to her house (near Becky's house and marked on the map as a yellow arrow) before her pot gets cold.

NOTE: Each of these are time sensitive, the best thing to do is make sure you already have York's Car (Sidequest #43), this is the fastest car in the game. With this you should do all 5 pretty easily. Credit to Boyd12 for this tip.

Be aware that if you do fail any of these Sigourney will not have the notepad icon next to her name and may move to the locations for the next Sidequest. Speak to her to re-activate the quest and take her home as normal.

I like how my post got deleted ?

Anyway you are going to need York's Car to do Cold Pot 5 as the normal police car is not fast enough and you will always fail the task.

I asked a mod to delete your post because it was right in the middle of the guide! I forgot to reserve some posts so it's my fault really.

I'll add that tip into the guide.

3 points:

1: The Introduction goes between the Overview and the Steps and it must be written entirely by you, no copy and pasting from other sites.

2: You don't need numbers in the trophy titles nor any links (the links use up valuable characters).

3: Please denote hidden trophies with the appropriate icon i.e (H)

:).

Thanks for the feedback Terminator! This is my first attempt at a guide so there was always gonna be some issues.

The reason I put the numbers there is because in the in-game sidequests list they are numbered 1-50 but I'll remove them and alter things accordingly.

There's only 3 unhidden trophies in the entire game, looks like I've got some editing to do there :p

I know this may sound silly, but for the Story Related Trophies (assuming there's some) is it possible if you can mark them like, "Story related, cannot be missed." I skimmed through your guide and I couldn't tell which ones were Story related and actual Sidequests, just thought this would be a good tidbit, to help newbies like myself to read guides, since most guide makers do this as an indication.

Good luck on your guide though! :)

Added that in RW, also added in the ingame sidequest numbers.

That's the main bulk of it done, just need to play through the rest of the story and add any little tips and tricks that come to mind.

And if anyone is playing this and has recording equipment, a video of how to solve the Part Time Job box puzzles would be much appreciated! They're not too tricky but the third one may cause some a bit of difficulty.

I'm in chapter 4 now but there are two quests that are supposed to appear but they don't.

First, there is this one:

Periodic Riddle (Sidequest #10)

Ushah has been given a "riddle" from Fiona that uses elemental symbols, but has no idea what the answer is. This doesn't seem related to the case... but why not help him find the answer?

I visited Ushah so many times by now, that I probably find the way through the hospital to him blindfolded. I visited him at different times and with and without rain. I visited him while he was sitting alone or with Fiona at his PC and I visited him while he was in the room next to the one with the PC. But the damn quest never started. What's wrong? Is there a specific time (and is it supposed to rain or not) when you have to meet him? Or is it false information that the quest is supposed to start in chapter 4 already?

Then there is this quest:

Another Nice Try Cooking (Sidequest #7)

Emily only ever cooks at home on evenings when it is raining. Find the "Vegetables that become sweet when heated" that she needs for her next dish and help her out.

I completed the side quest before that one but this one just won't trigger. Is it maybe like the one with the side job and you can't do more than one of those Emily quests in one chapter?

With any of the recurring sidequests (Nice Try Cooking, Cold Pot, Part Time Job etc), you cannot do them one after the other so you need to progress to the next chapter or replay an old one to get the next one to appear.

A little tip that will really help you is to check the map first. When you open your map in the pause menu you'll see little symbols for the people appear, even those indoors. Open the map and hover over their icon. If a little white/brown notepad like object appears next to their name then they are ready to give you the sidequest, if not then go away and sleep for a while or progress the story before trying again. This will save you running through the hospital only to be disappointed!

As for Ushah, I had some trouble getting him to register his quest. I just checked the map over the the hospital to see if he was ready every time I completed a story mission or another sidequest and eventually he was so keep looking! I'm not sure what the exact requirements for that one are but for me it appeared on a clear afternoon.

Thanks for the advice, Xander. That should make things easier :) . I already noticed the notepad icon but I was not sure if it always appears. Sometimes you have to speak to a character a few times before the notepad symbol appears above the character's head so that you can start the next mission as soon as you talk to the character again. But do you see the notepad symbol on the map even before you talked to such a character (before the icon appears above the character)?

The notepad icon will appear on the main map next to their name all the time they can give you the quest so that is always the best place to check! I never had it when the notepad didn't appear above their head when they had a quest to give

When did that happen to you?
