Introduction:

Dead Space is an Action-Horror 3rd Person Shooter. You take the role of Engineer Isaac Clarke who is sent on a repair mission to the USG Ishimura. En Route to docking the Ishimura, the recovery vessel - the USG Kellion - crashes into the Ishimura due to a guidance system malfunction. Forced to find a new transport, the team enters the Ishimura only to find that it has been abandoned. What happened to the crew? Isaac Clarke is about to be trapped in a nightmare that he cannot escape. You are his only hope.

Overall Dead Space's trophies aren't too difficult, most of them are unlocked by completing chapters, getting kills with weapons or dismembering "X" number of limbs. There is no multiplayer in Dead Space, so all of the trophies are achieved in single player. There are multiple ways to achieve platinum in the same number of playthroughs, although most of the trophies will be unlocked after your first playthrough.

Walkthrough:

Consult the Encyclopaedia for tips and information.

Step 1: 1st Playthrough on Easy and One Gun Trophy:

Start the game on "Easy". Just play through the game as you normally would, pick up every log you find, do any miscellaneous trophies like Crackshot, Z-Baller, Brawler, Ragdoll Check, Merchant, etc. 'Easy' difficulty is no real challenge and since you'll be doing One Gun at the same time, so you can stash lots of items quickly and get the Pack Rat trophy, and you can sell most everything you find and make Power Node/Ammo purchases towards the Big Spender trophy. You can purchase all of the other weapons and get the Full Arsenal trophy, just make sure that you don't fire any of them, otherwise you can't get the One Gun trophy.

While playing, learn how to most effectively cut the limbs off of Necromorphs as this is vital to performing well during your "Impossible" playthrough later on in the walkthrough. While cutting off limbs you will be working towards the Marksman, Surgeon and Butcher trophies, all of which will unlock by the end of this playthrough. Pay attention to where enemies come from so you can be prepared to deal with them ahead of time during your "Impossible" playthrough. During this playthrough make sure to get the trophies Playing Catch, Kickin it, Don't get cocky, kid and Slugger.

Trophies you will unlock after completing this step:

(G) One Gun

(S) Survivor

(S) Legend Teller

(S) Full Arsenal

(B) Story Teller

(B) Merchant

(B) Pack Rat

(B) Z-Baller

(B) Armstrong

(B) Marksman

(B) Surgeon

(B) Butcher

(B) Freeze

(B) Crackshot

(B) Air Alert

(B) Brawler

(B) Ragdoll Check

(B) Big Spender

(B) There's Always Peng!

(B) Tool Time

(B) Brute Force

(B) Exterminator

(B) Get off my Ship

(B) Mindless Prey

(B) True Believer

(B) Greenhouse Effect

(B) S.O.S.

(B) Strange Transmissions

(B) Wreckage

(B) Keeper of the Faith

(B) Betrayed

(B) Exodus

Step 2: 2nd Playthrough on Impossible:

The 2nd playthrough you will be completing the game on 'Impossible'. Since you've already beaten the game with only the Plasma Cutter you'll be making full use of your arsenal during this playthrough. Limit yourself to only 4 weapons at the most, one of which should always be the Plasma Cutter. Limiting yourself to only a few weapons means that you can sell everything else and put the money towards ammo and upgrades for the weapons you are using. Decide on your arsenal ahead of time, otherwise you may upgrade a weapon but change your mind later and will be unable to get the used Power Nodes back.

Take your time during this playthrough. Try to remember enemy locations from your first playthrough so you can get the jump on them. Always keep your distance because the enemies' melee attacks can drastically drain your health. Always have a couple of health packs in your inventory. One of the most important things to do during "Impossible" is to remain calm. If things get a little hectic then just keep your cool and be smooth with your shooting, you'll find that the calmer you are the better you perform.

Trophies you will unlock after completing this step:

(G) Epic Tier 3 Engineer

(You will unlock the "Weapon Kill" trophies depending on which weapons you use

Note: You can do the One Gun trophy during your "Impossible" playthrough if you wish, the walkthrough is the same basic idea regardless.

Epic Tier 3 Engineer Glitch Prevention:

If you start a game on New Game+, a new game on another difficulty other than Impossible or even exit to the XMB, then the option to start a a game on Impossible disappears. To fix/prevent this, start a new game on Impossible the moment you unlock it then save at the first available save point. This will allow you to continue your Impossible playthrough when you're ready. If you have already lost the option to play on impossible, then load a save from before the last boss, beat it again then after the credits have finished (or you skip them), Impossible difficulty will be available again.

(Credit goes to Terminator for providing the Glitch information)

Suggested Arsenal:

  • Plasma Cutter (must)
  • Force Gun
  • Line Gun
  • Ripper (remove this weapon if you decide on a 3 weapon arsenal)
  • See "The Basics" > "Weapons" for more info on weapons.

Impossible Difficulty Tips:

  • Conserve your ammo, it's important to make every shot count.
  • Don't let yourself get surrounded. If you feel you are being overrun, quickly move to a hallway so you can deal with each enemy 1 by 1.
  • Use Stasis. Stasis is very useful especially when dealing with tougher enemies, don't be afraid to use it.
  • Sell everything that you don't need such as Air Cans or ammo for a weapon you aren't going to use.
  • Rotate between at least 3 different save files. You never know if a save will corrupt or if you will need to load a previous save because you don't have enough ammo to deal with the current situation.

Step 3: 1/2 Playthrough clean-up on your "Easy" New Game+:

Now that you've beaten the game on 'Impossible' you can now do a 1/2 playthrough on New Game+. New Game+ starts you back from the beginning of the game with all everything that you had at the end of a playthrough. During this playthrough you will clean-up any miscellaneous trophies you may have missed. You can also unlock any weapon kill trophies you haven't gotten. You will primarily be working towards the Maxed Out trophy. Just put all of your money on Power Nodes and upgrade your RIG and weapons. Maxed Out should unlock around Chapter 5 or 6.

Trophies you will unlock after completing this step:

(G) Maxed Out

(B) Full Contact

(B) A Cut Above

(B) Pusher

(B) Live With The Hot Ones

(B) Autofire

(B) Eviscerator

(The "Weapon Kill" trophies will vary depending on which weapons you used during your 'Impossible' playthrough).

Complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting

This is one of the harder trophies in the game. To unlock the trophy you must complete the game on 'Impossible'. Impossible is unlocked once you beat the game. On 'Impossible" enemies are tougher and items are few. The most important thing to remember during your "Impossible" playthrough is to keep your cool, especially when things become intense. Take things carefully and be aware of your surrounds such as vents and other places that Necromorphs can come from and you'll make it through.

013.jpg  Survivor (S)

Complete the game on any difficulty setting

Not a difficult trophy, it will unlock on any difficulty once you complete the game. However, if you're having trouble then refer to Epic Tier 3 Engineer for tips.

Collectible Trophies

019.jpg  Story Teller (B)

Collect 75 Logs

Simple, just collect 75 logs. Logs can often be found in plain sight but are sometimes hidden. There are more logs to be found than you need for the trophy so it’s okay if you miss a few. Just do your best to check each room you’re in and you won't have any problems. If you go to your inventory you can scroll over to see logs you’ve found and missed in each chapter. I got this trophy on Chapter 5.

020.jpg  Legend Teller (S)

Collect 150 Logs

This is not too difficult, just make sure to thoroughly check each room you're in. There are more logs to be found than you need for the trophy, so if you miss a few you can still get it. This trophy should unlock on later chapters like 10, 11 or 12, depending on how many logs you miss.

168 logs in total can be found throughout the game, however you only need to collect 150 for all log related trophies.

023.jpg  Merchant (B)

Collect 8 schematics

There are 15 schematics to be found so don’t worry if you miss a couple as you can still achieve the trophy. Some are easy to find while others require a little searching and are sometimes behind Power Node locked doors. The earliest chapter that you can get the trophy on is Chapter 4.

047.jpg  There's Always Peng (B)

Find the Peng Treasure

Missable! You can first see the Peng Treasure as you exit the USG Kellion in Chapter 1. It's sitting on the other side of the railing, however you cannot pick it up until Chapter 11 since you do not have Kinesis yet. During Chapter 11 you will return to the Docking Bay and you will see the Peng Treasure in the same place as before, just use Kinesis to pick it up and the trophy and treasure are yours.

Below is a picture showing where to find the treasure:

Miscellaneous Trophies

018.jpg  Pack Rat (B)

Store 25 Items in Safe

This is not a hard trophy. Just store 25 items in the safe at the store, you can get this trophy as early as Chapter 2.

021.jpg  Full Arsenal (S)

Own every Weapon in the game

You can get this trophy during Chapter 4.

Weapons found in store:

  • Line Gun: 9,000 Credits – Store after Chapter 1
  • Pulse Rifle: 7,000 Credits - Store after Chapter 1

Weapon Schematic locations:

  • Flamethrower: 11,000 Credits - Chapter 2: Intensive Care - Security Station
  • Ripper: 8,000 Credits - Chapter 3: Course Correction - Refuelling Chamber
  • Contact Beam: 9,000 Credits - Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent - Ship Systems
  • Force Gun: 11,000 Credits - Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent - ADS Lower Hall

022.jpg  Z-Baller (B)

Complete Level 6 in Zero-G Basketball

Missable! This minigame can be found in Chapter 10. The idea of the game is to use Kinesis on the basketball and shoot it through one of the 3 holes. It takes a few tries to figure it out.

Z-Baller Tips & Notes:

  • You can end a level early by exiting through the door
  • Only 16 points are required to beat a level, the equivalent of landing on 3 lit-up pads and scoring 2 goals

(Thanks to Athantos for the tips)

Below is a video showing how to do it:

(Credit goes to SirCuddles for the video)

024.jpg  Armstrong (B)

Shoot 50 objects using Kinesis

This is another trophy that will unlock during the course of the game. You will pick up the Kinesis module at the start of Chapter 2. To use Kinesis hold :l1:, press :circle: to pick up an object, and press :r1: to shoot the object. Objects can be thrown at enemies to stun them.

027.jpg  Marksman (B)

Dismember 20 Limbs

Easy trophy, just use the Plasma Cutter and shoot the arms and legs of Necromorphs. You will unlock this trophy before the end of Chapter 1 if you aim for the limbs. Also note that the alternate fire of the Plasma Cutter :r2: rotates the weapon 90 degrees, thus allowing you to cut off legs more easily.

028.jpg  Surgeon (B)

Dismember 500 Limbs

This will unlock during the course of the game, just aim for the limbs. I unlocked this trophy during Chapter 6.

029.jpg  Butcher (S)

Dismember 1000 Limbs

This will unlock during the course of the game. I unlocked this trophy around Chapter 11-12.

030.jpg  Freeze (B)

Use Stasis on 50 Enemies

This trophy will come in time, just make use of Stasis, especially when facing large groups of enemies. Stasis energy can be recharged either by a Stasis Recharge station or by using a consumable Stasis pack. You can also combine this trophy with the Brawler trophy.

031.jpg  Crackshot (B)

Achieve a perfect score in the Shooting Gallery

Missable! This is one of the harder trophies in the game. The shooting gallery can be found early on in Chapter 9. To achieve a perfect score you must complete the fifth level in the minigame. Each level gets progressively harder, your goal is to shoot all of the red targets as they pop up without shooting the blue targets.

Shooting Gallery Tips & Notes:

  • Use the Plasma Cutter.
  • You have unlimited ammo whilst at the target range, so shoot away.
  • When a target pops up, move the camera in the direct of the target and then aim.
  • Find a comfortable shooting distance, further distances mean that you can pan the camera towards a target in less time. If you move to far back however, you will exit the minigame.
  • Standing at different angles to the range can make shooting certain targets easier, but can also make some harder.
  • You can play the shooting gallery minigame an unlimited number of times, however once you've beaten the fifth level no more prizes are awarded and you no longer have unlimited ammo at the range.

Below is a video showing the fifth level of the Shooting Gallery:

(Credit goes to SirCuddles for the video)

033.jpg  Air Alert (B)

Zero-G Jump over 100 times

This is not a hard trophy to obtain. You will get this during the course of the game. I unlocked it while I was on Chapter 10 going for the "Z-baller" trophy. However if you can't wait, then just enter a Zero-G area and jump around until the trophy pops. The earliest Chapter with a Zero-G area is Chapter 2 about mid-way in.

034.jpg  One Gun (G)

Beat the game using only the Plasma Cutter

This is not as hard as it sounds. Since you will only be using the Plasma Cutter you can sell all of the other guns' ammo and put the credits towards the Plasma Cutter. Just be precise with your shots and keep your cool.

Having DLC weapons will not negate this trophy, however using them will. The Heavy Damage Plasma Cutter DLC will not affect this trophy whether or not you use it.

035.jpg  Brawler (B)

Kill at least 30 enemies with a melee attack

The melee attack in this game is not very useful when it comes to killing Necromorphs. I would suggest playing on "Easy" as it’s much easier to kill enemies with your melee attacks. Use "Stasis" on enemies as it will freeze them and allow you to get up close and personal with ease. You can also weaken them by shooting off a limb with the Plasma Cutter, although this may not be doable depending on the difficulty you’re playing on and how powerful your Plasma Cutter is.

036.jpg  Maxed Out (G)

Upgrade all weapons and equipment

To max out your weapons and equipment you must apply a node on every circuit which improves a weapon or your rig. You do not need to apply nodes to every empty circuit. This trophy should be achieved around Chapter 5-6 on a New Game+ playthrough.

Nodes:

  • 152 total nodes required for the trophy.
  • 37 nodes can be collected during a playthrough
  • 10 nodes can be received from New Game+
  • 7 nodes can be received from using cheats
  • Nodes can be purchased through stores and cost 10,000 credits each

Weapons/RIG minimum nodes:

  • 17 - Plasma Cutter
  • 15 - Pulse Rifle
  • 18 - Flamethrower
  • 17 - Line Gun
  • 17 - Ripper
  • 19 - Force Gun
  • 19 - Contact Beam
  • 15 - RIG
  • 11 - Stasis
  • 3 - Kinesis

037.jpg  Ragdoll Check (B)

Force an enemy into a Gravity Panel 5 times

Missable! The earliest chapter that you can get this on is Chapter 4. During the course of the chapter you will find 2 rooms with panels on the floor that look like vents. Use Stasis on Necromorphs to freeze them in place, then just carefully push them onto a panel and watch them fly to the ceiling. Do this a total of 5 times and the trophy will unlock. This trophy is not fcumulative so if you die then you will have to start back at the last number you had since the last checkpoint.

If you missed the trophy on Chapter 4 another good chapter to do it on is Chapter 9. Around halfway through the chapter you will enter a room with several Gravity Panels. Do the method above and the trophy will unlock. The Force Gun found in Chapter 4 is also an effective way to push enemies onto Gravity Panels, although you find the weapon after the Gravity Panels.

038.jpg  Big Spender (B)

Spend 200,000 credits at the store

You will get this trophy as you progress through the game. Just sell anything that you don’t need and put that money towards useful store purchases like suits, Power Nodes, ammo or health packs. I unlocked this trophy on Chapter 4.

Weapon Kill Trophies

DLC weapons do not positively or negatively affect weapon kill trophies in any way.

040.jpg  Full Contact (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Contact Beam

This is not hard, the Contact Beam is very powerful and almost always kills Slasher and other types of Necromorphs in a single shot.

041.jpg  A Cut Above (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Ripper

The Ripper is most effective at close-range. When you fire the Ripper, move the hovering blade slice of enemies' limbs.

042.jpg  Tool Time (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Plasma Cutter

You will get this trophy during Chapter 2, just aim for the arms and legs to kill them quicker.

043.jpg  Pusher (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Force Gun

The Force Gun is unmatched when it comes to close-range combat. When a Necromorph comes at you, simply fire the Force Gun and the blast will cut off its limbs and knock the unlucky foe to the floor.

044.jpg  Live With The Hot Ones (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Flamethrower

The Flamethrower is one of the weaker weapons in the game. To get the 30 kills, use Stasis on an enemy and hit it with a stream of fire until it dies.

045.jpg  Autofire (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Pulse Rifle

The Pulse Rifle is a fast firing weapon. There's no real trick to killing with it, just shoot at Necromorphs until they die.

046.jpg  Eviscerator (B)

Kill 30 enemies with the Line Gun

The Line Gun is very good at taking down multiple opponents with it's wide-blade shot. Aim for legs or arms for the best effectiveness.

Secret Trophies

014.jpg  Brute Force (B)

Kill a Brute

The 1st Brute can be found on Chapter 4. Brutes are very large armored Necromorphs. There are three spots to damage the Brute – His back, and his arms right by its shoulders, everything else is covered in armor. When the Brute begins to charge you, shoot it with Stasis to slow it down. Then switch to your Plasma Cutter and shoot off one of its arms. The Brute will fall over in pain but it is still alive. Use stasis on it again and shoot off its remaining arm, this will fully kill the Brute and the trophy will be yours.

015.jpg  Exterminator (B)

Kill the Leviathan

You fight the Leviathan at the end of Chapter 6. You must shoot the glowing yellow spots on each of the Leviathan’s three tentacles. Whenever it slams a tentacle down, quickly Zero-G jump because the tentacle will swipe the ground and injure Isaac if you don’t.

Once the tentacles have been destroyed it will open its mouth and you will have to shoot a small glowing yellow orb inside of its mouth. It will launch pods at you when it opens its mouth, so either move out of the way or use Kinesis on them. Look around for red explosive canisters because you can shoot those at the orb causing serious damage.

Once you damage the orb in its mouth it will respawn the three tentacles. Destroy each one like before while still avoiding the swipes. Once the tentacles have been destroyed it will open its mouth once more and shoot pods at you. Once you’ve damaged the orb inside of its mouth enough it you will defeat the Leviathan and the trophy will unlock.

See Bosses for tips.

016.jpg  Get off my Ship! (B)

Kill the Slug Boss

The Slug has five tentacles each with glowing yellow blobs. As you shoot the tentacles The Slug will be throwing objects at you. Always shoot the large explosive canisters that The Slug throws first since they do the most damage against the hull. Just keep shooting each tentacle and The Slug will die.

Note: In the Italian version of the game this trophy's description is mistranslated as the "Slugger" trophy.

See Bosses for tips.

017.jpg  Mindless Prey (B)

Kill the Hive Mind

The Hive Mind is the final boss in the game. The Hive Mind with try to smash you with its tentacles. When it slams its left arm run to the right, and when it drops its right arm run to the left. After destroying the 3 of the 5 glowing blobs on The Hive Mind's head it will grab Isaac and hold him in mid-air. Destroy 1 of the glowing yellow blobs to cause it to drop you, take note however that you will be upside down and so your aim will be reversed. Once it drops you you must destroy 5 more glowing yellow blobs on The Hive Mind's chest. Once they've been destroyed The Hive Mind will be defeated.

See Bosses for tips.

025.jpg  Playing Catch (B)

Catch a Brute or Leviathan Pod using Kinesis

Missable! This is not a hard trophy. Once you enter the room with the Leviathan, shoot each off its tentacles. Once it’s tentacles are gone it will shoot large pods at you. Just use Kinesis on one of the pods and fire it back into the Leviathan and the trophy is yours.

026.jpg  Kickin it (B)

Escape from a Lurker's grab attack 10 times

Missable! Lurkers look like little balls and can be easily identified by the three tentacles they have with spikes on the end. For a Lurker to grab hold of Isaac you must run up close to one and wait until it leaps onto him. Once the Lurker is attached, immediately tap the :cross: button until Isaac grabs the Lurker and kicks it to death. Take note that no matter how quickly you press :cross:, Isaac will always lose some health so make sure that you have a health pack or two in your inventory.

The earliest chapter you come in contact with Lurkers is Chapter 2. There are around 4-5 Lurkers in Chapter 2. If you escape from all of the Lurkers' grab attacks in Chapter 2 then you can get this trophy as early as Chapter 3, as there are around 6-7 Lurkers in Chapter 3.

032.jpg  Don't get cocky, kid (B)

Survive the ADS Canon with over 50% Shield strength remaining

Missable! This is one of the harder trophies in the game. On Chapter 4 you must take the seat of the ADS canon and project the Ishimura from damage. You have two cannons you can shoot, left cannon :l1: and right cannon :r1:. Just try to be as quick as possible shooting each asteroid, don’t worry about the asteroids that are on near the edge of the screen as those won’t hit the ship. There is a save station right before you enter the ADS Canon so if you fall below 50% Shield, reload that save and try again.

Tips:

  • Some people do better when they only use one cannon.
  • Always shoot the big asteroids first.
  • Alternate between cannons when faced with many asteroids.
  • Ignore asteroids that are far off towards the edge of the screen as those won't hit the ship.
  • Turn the brightness up a LOT as this will help you spot asteroids quickly.
  • Try to keep the cannons in the center of the screen as much as possible.
  • This thread contains useful tips from other members - http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-space/3542-dont-get-cocky-kid.html

Below is a video that may help you with unlocking this trophy:

(Credit goes to SirCuddles for the video)

039.jpg  Slugger (B)

Kill the Slug Boss with more than 50% Shield strength remaining

Missable! This trophy is the same idea as the Don't get cocky, kid trophy, except that this trophy is considerably easier. Just focus on destroying the tentacles and watch out for any objects that The Slug throws at you and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Note: In the Italian version of the game this trophy is mistranslated as the "Get Off My Ship" trophy.

Items, Power Nodes, and Containers:

  • Items: Items can be recognized by the glowing light they emit, pick up any that you find.
  • Item boxes: Item boxes can be recognized by the green light on top of the box, these often contain ammo which can be used or sold at stores for credits. To break open a box you can stomp on it with :r2:, grab and shoot it with Kinesis or shoot it with a weapon.
  • Item containers: Item containers are recognized by the small blue light on the container. Press the :cross: button when next to a container to open it. If a container is emitting a red light then it cannot be opened. Containers can be found on the ground, on walls, or as lockers.
  • Power Nodes: Power Nodes are used to upgrade your weapons and rig or to unlock Power Node locked doors. Power Nodes can be purchased for 10,000 credits in stores.
  • Power Node containers: Power Node containers can be found on walls in clear containers with a flashing blue light.

Upgrading your RIG & Weapons:

  • Benches: Benches are used to upgrade your weapons. They have a blue screen with the word "Bench" on front.
  • Circuits: Circuits are used to upgrade various aspects of a weapon such as Damage, Speed, Capacity, etc. Empty circuits do not add anything to the weapon, they simply act as paths to upgrade circuits.
  • Placing Nodes: When you place a Power Node to a circuit, that circuit will activate and allow adjacent circuits to be activated around it.

Weapons:

  • Plasma Cutter

    boNHu.png

The Plasma Cutter is probably the most useful weapon in the game. It's accurate, fast, powerful and can quickly take off enemy limbs. The ammo also stacks efficiently, being able to stack 24 rounds into a single inventory slot. This is one weapon that you will want to have on you at all times.

Primary Fire: Shoots a quick bolt of Plasma
Alternate Fire: Rotates the weapon 90 degrees.

    Pros:
    Mid-Long range
    Fast and powerful
    Ammo stacks well

    Cons:
Not efficient at taking out groups of enemies quickly

  • Pulse Rifle

    asPxP.png

The Pulse Rifle is essentially the assault rifle of dead space. It's most effective at taking out groups of enemies and is good at mid-range. Although a weak weapon at the start, once upgraded the Pulse Rifle can cause some serious damage.

Primary Fire: Rapidly fires Pulse rounds (like an assault rifle)
Alternate Fire: Shoots a 360 degree burst of bullets around Isaac.

    Pros:
Good at taking out groups of enemies.
    Large ammo capacity once upgraded

    Cons:
    Inefficient at dismembering limbs
    Weak alternate fire

  • Flamethrower

    RryVp.png

The Flamethrower is one of the less useful weapons in Dead Space. It's incapable of dismembering limbs, causes little damage and is really only useful as a way to stun enemies for a short period. It's most effective at short-range.

Primary Fire: Fires a continuous stream of fire
Alternate Fire: Projectile burst of flames

    Pros:
    Good for stunning enemies

    Cons:
    Incapable of dismembering limbs
Cannot be operated inside of a vacuum
    Weak damage even when upgraded

  • Line Gun

    HeOBz.png

A very nice weapon to have.. The Line Gun is a great mid-long range weapon that is best used to take out groups of enemies or quickly severing multiple limbs off of a Necropmorph.

Primary Fire: Fires a wide horizontal beam of energy
    Alternate Fire: Timed plasma mine

    Pros:
Very effective at dealing with groups of enemies, since the beam fired will cut through multiple Nercomorphs.
Can dismember multiple limbs with a single shot.

    Cons:
Slow rate of fire compared to other weapons
    Ammo does not stack well.

  • Ripper

    sQWMU.png

The Ripper is quite a cool tool, it's very effective at acting as a buffer between you and the enemy. It’s very good at quickly dismembering limbs, and can quickly dispatch enemies when they come to close. The ammo stacks really well and each blade lasts for several seconds when fired through the primary fire. Effective at short-mid range.

Primary Fire: Fires a disc that hovers in front of the player for several seconds. Once fired the disc can be moved around with the right analogue stick.
Alternate Fire: Launches a single disc projectile

    Pros:
    Great at holding back enemies
    Efficient at dismembering limbs
    Ammo consumption is low
    Ammo stacks really well

    Cons:
    Short range

  • Force Gun

    4Av1Z.png

The Force Gun is quite a unique weapon. When dealing with too many enemies you can use the Force Gun to quickly knock them down. Although the fire range is short, once upgraded the Force Gun can completely dismember an enemy at close range.

Primary Fire: Fires a quick burst of Force energy
Alternate Fire: Fires a Gravity grenade

    Pros:
Very effective against multiple opponents at close-range
Can dismember multiple limbs with a single shot
Secondary fire is very powerful and is effective at a distance

    Cons:
Slow rate of fire compared to other weapons
    Short range of effectiveness

  • Contact Beam

    nAhBZ.png

The Contact Beam is the most powerful weapon in the game. The primary fire fires a rocket-like projectile capable of obliterating multiple enemies. Although you can’t have power without sacrifice, the downside of the Contact Beam is that each shot needs to change up before it fires. Effective at mid-long range.

Primary Fire: Fires a rocket-like projectile
Alternate Fire: Fires a shockwave around the player

    Pros:
    Extremely powerful
Secondary fire can save you when surrounded

    Cons:
    Shots must charge up
    Ammo doesn't stack well
    Slow rate of fire

Necromorphs:

  • Slasher

    GMB9f.jpg

The Slasher is the most common type of Necromorph. They are characterized by their long blades on their hands and look like humans. They will try to sneak up on you and when they are spotted, often sprint towards you.

    Kill Strategy:
Shooting off both arms will kill them instantly
Shooting off a leg will cause it to fall to the ground and slow it down

  • Lurker

    TR2mT.jpg

Lurkers are one of the less dangerous types of Necromorphs. They have three tentacles that come out of their back and rely on slow ranged attacks. If you come to close to one however it will leap and grab onto you.

    Kill Strategy:
Severing two of their tentacles will kill them.
Use the Plasma Cutter's alternative fire to effectively shoot limbs off when a Lurker is on walls, ceilings etc.

  • Infector

    PKjca.jpg

The Infector is different from other Necromorphs because it has wings and latches on to corpses and creates Slashers. If an Infector is infecting a corpse, then shoot the corpse and it will prevent it from getting infected. The only weak spot on the Infector is the proboscis it uses when it is infecting a corpse. To prevent corpses from becoming infected stomp or shoot off their head. Corpses with no legs can still become infected.

    Kill Strategy:
The Flamethrower will make quick work of this enemy.
    Shoot the proboscis.

  • Leaper

    Ccimq.jpg

Leapers are characterized by the two arms they walk on and a long tail. They will leap at you and quickly run towards you. Stasis is effective against these quick moving enemies.

    Kill Strategy:
    Shoot both arms to kill.
Shooting the tail will slow it down and prevent it from jumping.

  • Swarmer

    8uAbZ.jpg

These little creatures may look harmless, but looks can be deceiving. Swarmers will jump on to you and slowly drain your health, quickly tap :cross: to kill them. A single Swarmer is relatively harmless but if several latch on to you, your health will rapidly drain. Be careful when killing a Pregnant as Swarmers live inside of them and will fall out if the stomach is ruptured.

    Kill Strategy:
Use the Force Gun or the Line Gun's alternate 'Mine' fire to dispatch Swarmers quickly and with little ammo consumption.
Use the Ripper to slice them.
The Flamethrower can be effective against them.
Use stasis to slow them down.

  • Pregnant

    LPsUR.jpg

These slow moving enemies are relatively harmless but be warned, should you rupture their stomach, dozens of Swarmers will come out and can cause a serious threat.

    Kill Strategy:
    Shoot the shoulders or head.
Shoot a leg and then an arm.

  • Exploder

    gIg01.jpg

Exploders are essentially suicide bombers. They have a large explosive glowing yellow blob on their arm. They may look relatively slow moving but they are surprisingly quick. You can shoot off their arm with the yellow blob attached and use Kinesis on the blob and throw it at enemies.

    Kill Strategy:
Shoot the glowing blob from a safe distance.
Dismember the limbs but leave the blob intact to be used against other enemies.
Use Stasis if an Exploder comes to close.

  • Guardians

    zx17p.jpg

Guardians are immobile enemies that are attached to walls. They have several tentacles that must be severed in order to kill it. They will shoot pods that fire projectiles at you. If you move to close to a Guardian they will instantly kill you with a hidden blade.

    Kill Strategy:
Find a red explosive canister - often found right before you encounter a guardian - and use Kinesis to pick it up. Once you're in range of a Guardian it will move it's tentacles out in front of it, when it does this shoot the canister at the Guardian. This will save your ammo and will instantly kill it.
Use the Force Gun's alternate fire or the Line Gun's alternate 'Mine' fire to destroy the tentacles.
Use Stasis on a Guardian as soon as it move it's tentacles out in front of itself, this will allow you to quickly sever the tentacles.

  • Divider

    9h0Kq.jpg

Dividers look like tall humans and let out a loud bellow before you encounter them. Once they spot you they will quickly move towards you. Once killed they will break up into smaller sections, so it's best to dispatch this enemy from afar.

    Kill Strategy:
Once upgraded enough the Contact Beam can kill a Divider and all its components with a single shot.
Use Stasis on a Divider and use the Line Gun's alternate "Mine" fire to kill the Divider an often all of its components.
The Force Gun is effective against a Divider at close-range.

  • Twitcher

    ThUKT.jpg

Twitchers are extremely fast enemies that will try to rush you. Their movements are very fast so Stasis is your best friend against this foe. If their legs are removed they will fake death.

    Kill Strategy:
Use Stasis to slow the Twitcher down and then shoot it with the Contact Beam, Force Gun, or sever its limbs with the Plasma Cutter.

  • Drag Tentacle

    gEW5L.jpg

Drag Tentacles hide in holes in the wall. When they attack you enter a sort of quick time sequence where you must destroy the glowing yellow blob on the tentacle before it pulls you into its lair. Use a fast-firing weapon such as the Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle to destroy the blob. Stasis does not work against Drag Tentacles.

    Kill Strategy:
Use fast-firing weapons against the tentacle to quickly dispatch it.
A single shot from the Contact Beam will instantly kill the tentacle, however you must be a good shot with it.

  • Brute

    CmAAI.jpg

The Brute is the largest non-boss enemy that you will face. They will charge you when spotted and are covered in tough armor. When they charge, try to move around cover to prevent them from hitting you. Brutes have three vulnerable parts; their back and one spot by each shoulder.

    Kill Strategy:
Always use Stasis on a Brute.
The Flamethrower is effective against Brutes and will damage them even when fired at the front of their body, however it's dangerous to do this if the Brute is not slowed by Stasis.
To save ammo shoot off one of its legs, this will make it immobile and it will start to lob explosive pods at you. Use Kinesis on these pods and shoot them back at the Brute.
The Contact Beam can quickly dismember the Brute's arms.
A few shots from an upgraded Plasma Cutter will make quick work of a Brute's arms.

  • The Hunter

    UXq9B.jpg

The Hunter resembles a Slasher, however it regenerates limbs after they've been severed, so it essentially cannot be killed. The best way to deal with The Hunter is to cut off its limbs until it goes into its regenerative state, then shoot it with Stasis and make a quick escape to your next objective.

    Kill Strategy:
Dismember all of The Hunter's limbs and then use Stasis on it.
Throwing objects like heavy boxes or canisters and stun and slow down The Hunter.
Use as little ammo as possible against The Hunter since it's impossible to kill.

Bosses:

  • The Leviathan

    YZcLE.jpg

The Leviathan is the first boss you'll encounter. The Leviathan has three tentacles, each have a glowing yellow blob on them. To destroy the tentacles, shoot the blobs with either a mid-range range weapon or by throwing red canisters with Kinesis. The Leviathan with slam its tentacles down at you and perform a sweeping motion. When it does this do a Zero-G jump on another portion of the floor to avoid the sweep.

Once it's tentacles have been destroyed it will open its mouth and leave the glowing yellow blob inside its mouth vulnerable. Shoot the blob with weapons or throw red canisters at it to damage it. While its mouth is open it will throw several pods at you, you can dodge these pretty easily, or you can use Kinesis on the pods and throw them back at The Leviathan.

    Kill Strategy:
Use red canisters against The Leviathan's weak points to conserve ammo.
Shoot the pods back into the mouth with Kinesis to conserve ammo.
The Contact Beam is very effective against The Leviathan.
The Pulse Rifle can quickly dispatch the tentacles.

  • The Slug

    NQKaZ.jpg

The Slug is similar to The Leviathan, only when you fight it you will be using an ADS Canon. The Slug has five tentacles each with glowing yellow blobs. As you shoot the tentacles The Slug will be throwing objects at you. Always shoot the large explosive canisters first since they do the most damage against the hull.

    Kill Strategy:
Shoot both cannons at weak spots to quickly destroy them.

  • The Hive Mind

    IkuAH.jpg

The Hive Mind is the final boss in the game. The Hive Mind with try to smash you with its tentacles. When it slams its left arm run to the right, and when it drops its right arm run to the left. After destroying 3 of the 5 glowing yellow blobs The Hive Mind will grab Isaac and hold him in mid-air.

    Kill Strategy:
Shoot red canisters at The Hive Mind to conserve ammo.
The Contact Beam is very effective against the glowing yellow blobs.

Glad you like the guide. :) You can still get the One Gun trophy regardless of whether or not you kill enemies via melee.

Thanks a lot for this guide!!

Helped me a lot and saved me a lot of time!

Btw I used this tip from another site to grind the kills, worked for me and in less of an hour I had my trophies.

Easy way to unlock all weapon kill achievements (Spoilers) - GameSpot.com

Of course from time to time I was changing between weapons, but doing exactly what he wrote helped me a lot.

Thanks again!!
