Dead Island is a first person zombie role playing game very similar to Borderlands in gameplay and mixed with Dead Rising's zombie killing experience. If you just love zombies and the thrill of killing them then this game should be more fun than being repetitive. You can pick up to 4 different characters with their own unique abilities for your perfect gaming experience. The game is set on the island of Banoi, which has been plagued by an infection and has turned most of the inhabitants/tourists into zombies and mutants. You will have to complete main and side quests to find a way off the island and discover what started the infection.

As for the Plat, it's a fairly standard RPG list. You need to get X amount of kills with certain things, travel to every location in the game, get collectibles and find certain weapons etc. It is fairly time consuming and you are looking at sinking around 50hrs into the game to get the Plat. Nothing is hard about the game either. At first when you aren't as powerful and only have sticks to use against zombies it may prove a little tough but as the game progresses, you will level up a lot and get access to better weapons. There are no missable trophies either as they stack across multiple playthroughs.

**Patch 1.04**

Dead Island, pre-patch, is really glitchy and buggy. For starters, the There and Back Again trophy is glitched and you cannot get it without having patch 1.04 installed. Also, the game is really unstable. Playing without the patch, you will experience frame rate issues and a lot of crashing. You will also more than likely experience the autosave bug. This is where the game gets stuck on an autosave for an infinite amount of time and never actually saves your game, therefore when you turn the game off and come back later you will have lost hours of progress. To be safe, make sure you install patch 1.04 right away before you even start playing the game. Note: The GOTY version of the game has all the patches on the disk already.

If you want to use exploits and glitches for the level 50 trophy that were patched by the 1.04 update, then we recommend waiting until that's the last trophy you need then delete the patch (not possible with the GOTY Edition).

Step 1 - Complete all the Main Quests, Side Quests, Visit all 72 Locations

Take your time and enjoy the game while getting as much XP as you can. Complete every side quest in this Step to unlock Busy, busy, busy. You don't need to finish every side quest but you need to do a lot of them. The trophy does carry across playthroughs though so don't worry if you miss it. You will also want to be on the lookout for locations to earn the There and Back Again trophy, there is a total of 72 locations you need to visit and there is no way to track them. While this may sound daunting, most of them are story related and if you keep track of where you have been by using the Guide provided here, then you will have no trouble. Also, make sure to enable Manual Stick Controls in the controls menu for the Swing them sticks. We found it very difficult to use the manual sticks but luckily you can use guns as they count towards the 150.

You also want to make sure to look all over the place for collectibles. These consist of Fact Files, Recordings, Blueprints and Weapon Mods. You need to get 120 of them for the Gotta find' em all and Nearly There trophies, however, these do stack across playthroughs so be on the search for them to save time later on. You can find them in most buildings and they aren't really well hidden. There isn't much else to this Step, you will be earning progress towards most of the trophies just by playing anyway and earning lots of trophies by not even really going for them. Enjoy the game for what it's worth and be on the lookout for the locations and most the side quests to avoid a second playthrough. During this Step you will earn the following trophies:

(S)(H) Hell in paradise

(S)(H) No raccoons in here

(S)(H) King of the jungle

(S)(H) Banoi Redemption

(B)(H) A very special day

(S) Busy, busy, busy

(B) Learning the ropes

(B) Dedicated student

(B) Knock, knock

(B) Savior

(B) Warranty Void if Used

(B) Humanitarian

(B) A taste of everything

(B) To put it bluntly

(B) Hack & slash

(B) Guns don't kill but they help

(B) Tae Kwon Leap

(B) Karma-geddon

(B) Road Trip

(B) Cardio

(B) Tis but a flesh wound!

(S) Swing them sticks

(S) There and back again

(B) Gotta find' em all

Step 2 - Complete Act 1 with Logan, Sam B, Purna and Xian

This is a simple Step, all you need to do is complete Act 1 with the three other characters you didn't use in your first playthrough. Act 1 is fairly quick and pretty much only consists of fetch quests. It's boring but it only takes about an hour to do Act 1 if you are efficient. To start a new game, from the main menu go "Play" => "New Game". You will then have option to choose which character you want to be. Pick any one you haven't completed Act 1 with already, then press "Yes" to skip the Prologue as this is not needed. Now run past most of the zombies as there is no need to kill them, since it will only slow you down. You need to complete the following main quests, you don't need to do any side quests:

  • Passport to Life
  • Exodus
  • To Kill Time
    • Ashes to Ashes
    • On the Air

    [*]A Piece of Cake

    [*]Seek 'N' Loot

    [*]Born To Be Wild

    [*]Black Hawk Down

    [*]Misery Wagon

    [*]Only the Strong Survive

    [*]On The Road

As soon as you reach Moresby, wait for the auto save to finish then quit to the main menu. Now complete Act 1 again with another character. During this Step you will earn the following trophy, possibly more:

(S) Right 4 Life

Step 3 - Online Co-op

The online trophies are fairly easy and none will take too long to complete. They are all essentially for completing quests with certain amount of players and completing a certain amount of quests in co-op. You can get all the trophies, except Originality, by just joining random lobbies and completing quests with them. You might get lucky though, so its possible to get originality in random lobbies. However, the online has a lot of hacked weapons which can make your game unstable and/or corrupt your save file if you pick any of the weapons up. To be safe I would play private games with friends or other people looking to get the co-op trophies. You can find partners for all the trophies by using this thread: http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

You will earn the following trophies during this Step:

(B) Need a hand?

(B) People Person

(B) Ménage à trois

(B) Originality

(B) Together in the light

(B) Going steady

Step 4 - Level 50, 5 Exceptional Weapons and Other Trophies You Missed

The main goal of this Step is to get to level 50 and getting 5 exceptional weapons. You should, after completing all the Steps above, be around level 40-45. There is quite a few methods to grind the remaining few levels, all of which have been detailed in the guide. Also, you will want to go for any trophy you may have missed. You more than likely still need 120 collectibles but there is an easy way to get them quickly which is explained in the guide. Simply go through your trophy list and clean up any trophies you may be missing. You will earn the following trophies during this Step:

(B) One is all I need

(B) Can't touch this

(B) Light my fire

(B) 10 heads are better than 1

(B) I want one of those

(B) Catch!

(G) Rootin' Tootin' Lootin'

(B) Ah! Spoiled meat!

(B) Kill a Butcher using an axe.

(B) On, no you didn't

(B) Gesundheit!

(B)(H) Everybody lies

(B)(H) How many days exactly?

(S) School of hard knocks

(B) First!

(B) Nearly There

(S) Steam Punk

(B) Rageman

The Whole World Went Away (P)

Collect all other trophies.

Collect the other 48 non-DLC trophies to unlock this. Congrats!

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/02.jpg One is all I need (B)

Kill 5 Infected in a row with a single blow.

The Infected are the zombies that run towards you very fast and scream at you while they do so. Right before they attack you, you must swing towards their head and if timed correctly, you will kill them instantly in one hit. This type of move only works on infected. During Act 1 on the "Only the strong survive" Quest, you will face many of the Infected while protecting Earl's Workshop. This is a good place to try it as the only zombies you face are infected. Be aware that you cannot kill any other zombies while going for 5 kills in a row or the count will reset. Practice you're timing to make this easier and use a good two-handed weapon.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/03.jpg Can't touch this (B)

Use a hammer to kill a series of 15 zombies without taking damage.

You can find hammers on most merchants in the game or randomly lying around. Once you have a hammer, upgrade it at least once but the more the better. When you are ready, head down to Diamond Beach (the beach near the Lifeguard Tower). Pretty much all the zombies here are lying on the floor and they lie down on their own, not in groups most of the time. Quickly run up to them and kill them before they have a chance to get up. If one does get up, simply kick it down with :l2: then hit it while it's on the floor. Get 15 kills without taking any damage and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/04.jpg Humanitarian (B)

Kill 50 human enemies.

This will come naturally as you play through the game. You will first encounter human enemies in Moresby. Human enemies are pretty weak compared to zombies and most the time you can kill them in one hit. The only thing that makes them tough is that they all carry guns so they can hurt you from afar. The best way to deal with them is use guns yourself and aim for headshots. You will find lots of ammo and guns on the bodies of the enemies you kill, you scattered around the buildings they are living in. If you haven't killed 50 by the time you have every other trophy, you can farm this in the villages located in the Jungle. Human enemies will always respawn here. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/05.jpg Light my fire (B)

Set 10 zombies on fire simultaneously.

You need to get yourself a Molotov, you will get one when you complete the "From Ashes" main quest and can get more from the same man who gave you this quest in the Lifeguard Tower. Bring him x3 Bottles of Alcohol and he will give you a Molotov in return. The best place by far to actually get the trophy is in Moresby, head to the area marked in the image below:

GMTS9tx.png

Once you are here, you will see 10 zombies on the shoreline:

BSAkfSa.png

You now have two options:

1: Run over to them and keep jumping and running around in circles to get all of their attention and to clump them together. When they are in a nice group, throw the Molotov at them and you will hopefully set 10 on fire.

2: Use Zom-Bait, the blueprint for it you receive as part of the main quest line in Moresby. Once you have a Zom-bait, all you have to do is throw it in the group and they will all huddle around it and ignore you. Once they are all clumped together, throw the Molotov at them. Both methods work wonders so use whichever one you think is best.

Also note that sometimes this trophy can be a little glitchy so you might have to set more than 10 zombies on fire to meet the requirements. Try to light as many zombies as you can simultaneously just to be safe, even if it's more than 10.

Also, see here for some additional info (credit to Hogger for this): LINK

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/06.jpg 10 heads are better than 1 (B)

Kill 10 zombies in a row with headshots.

You need to gun first to do this and you don't get access to one until Act II. We used the Heavy Pistol for this and you can find it in the police station as part of a main quest. All guns work well though, except the shotgun. Don't use the shotgun as it has a wide-spread and getting headshots can prove to be difficult. Once you have your gun and plenty of ammo, you want to head out onto the streets of Moresby. Now get the attention of a couple of zombies and then find something you can jump on top of e.g. car. Zombies can't get you up here as they can't climb. They will just stand there waving their arms around at you and you can easily line up headshots. Get 10 headshots in a row and the trophy will unlock.

Another easier but more time consuming method is to Fast Travel to the Resort area, then slowly work your way around the coastline areas because there are fewer zombies there. Be sure to observe your surroundings and proceed with caution.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/07.jpg A taste of everything (B)

Kill a zombie with 10 different melee weapons.

This trophy requires you to use 10 different melee weapons, you are pretty much guaranteed to get this on your first playthrough. Melee weapons are the main weapons you will be using in the game and they break often so you will be picking up new ones all the time. There are loads of different melee weapons to use so getting a kill with 10 different ones will just come naturally. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/08.jpg To put it bluntly (B)

Kill 250 zombies using blunt melee weapons.

Blunt weapons consist of pipes, hammers, crowbars, maces, flails, brass knuckles, bats, batons, sticks etc. They are marked with a hammer icon in your inventory. You will more than likely get this trophy naturally just by playing the game. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/09.jpg Hack & slash (B)

Kill 250 zombies using edged melee weapons.

Edged melee weapons consist of machetes, knives, cleavers, axes, swords etc. They are marked with a sword icon in your inventory. You will more than likely get this trophy naturally just by playing the game. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/10.jpg Guns don't kill but they help (B)

Kill 250 zombies using firearms.

During Chapter 7 you will go to the City Hall in Moresby. You can farm your 250 kills there with a mounted machine gun on the second floor balcony. An infinite number of zombies will run towards the building and you have infinite bullets in the machine gun. If you have already passed this Chapter then you can use Chapter select after you've completed the campaign. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/11.jpg Tae Kwon Leap (B)

Kill 25 zombies with your bare fists.

Equip your fists by using :r2: to bring up the weapon wheel, then select your fists. I would recommend going for this trophy very early in the game when zombies are weaker. Don't try to have a fist fight with a big group of zombies, target lone ones to make this easier. The best way is to kick them to the floor with :l2: then punch them in the face when they are lying on the floor. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/12.jpg I want one of those (S)

Customize 25 weapons.

Custom weapons are made by adding modifications to them, you will find mod blueprints throughout the game. You can also create the same custom weapon more than once as it doesn't have to be 25 different weapon mods. Molotov's and Deo-bombs also count towards this trophy. What we did was keep fast travelling to stores, until we found all the items needed to make a Deo-bomb, then bought loads of each one so we could easily make 25 Deo-bombs. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/13.jpg Karma-geddon (B)

Kill 50 zombies using a vehicle.

The chances are you'll get this trophy without even trying.

Every time you use a vehicle, run over every zombie you see. Half the time they are in your direct path anyway just standing there. You'll be using cars a lot in the game, especially in Act 1 as you have to do quite a few fetch quests. If you somehow don't have 50 by the time reach the end of the game, just keep driving around the resort and running over every zombie you see. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/14.jpg Catch! (B)

Kill an Infected with a grenade blast.

You can buy grenades from Keenan Fisher in the River Village part of the Jungle, you can also buy them from Cahaya Dian in Moresby (he is found near the Police Station). However, these two merchants will not always have grenades on them. If neither do, simply fast travel away and come back. If you happen to find a grenade, make sure to save it as they are rare to find. Infected zombies are the ones that run very fast and scream at you, as they run towards you. The easiest way to do this is to kick an infected over using :l2: and then throw a grenade quickly at it while it's on the floor. If done right, the infected won't have time to get up and he'll get killed by the grenade. Deo-bombs do not count towards this trophy and neither do propane tanks.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/15.jpg Road Trip (B)

Drive a total distance of 10 kilometers.

You'll unlock this easily as you'll be driving around a lot. If you haven't driven 10km by the time reach the end of the game, simply find a car and keep driving. The trophy will unlock once you hit 10km driven. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/16.jpg Cardio (B)

Travel a distance of 20 kilometers on foot.

You'll unlock this without trying as you will be walking/running around a lot. The trophy will unlock once you hit 20km. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/17.jpg Rootin' Tootin' Lootin' (G)

Loot 5 Exceptional Weapons.

Note: You can't get this by "trading" with a friend, given that the description clearly says "loot".

You must loot 5 Exceptional (orange name) weapons from chests, these are the best weapons you can get in the game but are very rare to get a hold of. This takes a bit of luck to get but can be farmed. You can usually find these weapons in the Level 3 locked chests but these require the level 3 Picklock skill.

oODzkDj.png

There are quite a few methods to get these weapons and we have detailed the 3 best and most efficient ones below:

  • Method #1 - Bunker to Lab Fast Travelling

Fast Travel to Mowen's Boat and there will be 3 chests here: One behind the Fast Travel, one near the first chest in a little hut area and the last one is inside the bunker right by the boat. There is a staircase inside, go up the stairs and the third is just to the right side. After you have farmed these three chests, use the fast travel again and travel to Bunker #2. As you enter the Bunker there will be a ladder, climb it to find 2 chests. There is also a chest right next to the Fast Travel station. Repeat this method until you have 5 exceptional weapons, be patient. The Pumas Jackpot perk can also increase you're chances of getting rare weapons.

  • Method #2 - Wait in-game for 5 real time hours

This is the most time-consuming method but it works wonders. What you want to do is just leave Dead Island sit there for 5hrs idle, real-time. Once 5hrs have passed, travel to Mowen's Boat and there will be 3 chests here: One behind the Fast Travel, one near the first chest in a little hut area and the last one is inside the bunker right by the boat. There is a staircase inside, go up the stairs and the third is just to the right side. At least one of these should have an orange weapon in. Now do them same thing again. Wait 5hrs then Fast Travel to the bunker and open all the chests up in there.

  • Method #3 - Arena C (Hard) Bloodbath DLC

This was our favourite and quickest method to get orange weapons. One flaw though, it requires the Bloodbath Arena DLC (£7.99/$11.99 on the PS Store or free with GOTY version). What you want to do is get to round 20 pretty much, 90% of the time once you hit round 20 you will get a notice come up saying a zombie is "Carrying an Exceptional Weapon" and you will see the specific zombie on the mini-map. Simply kill him and pick up the weapon. Getting to round 20 can be tricky though and is much easier in co-op. We used the Zed's Demise Katana with shock mod. The sword is obtained on one of the side quests in the Prison. As well as using guns with lots of ammo.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/18.jpg Tis but a flesh wound! (B)

Sever 100 limbs.

This will come naturally and can only be obtained when using edged weapons. Blunt weapons will only break enemy limbs, not sever them. Heads, both arms and both legs count as limbs on a zombie. The zombie can either be dead or alive for it to count so you can sever its limbs when it is dead on the floor and it'll still count towards the 100 limbs. One thing you need to make sure of though is to always repair your edged weapons. They lose their effectiveness over time and they don't cut as well or cause as much damage. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/19.jpg There and back again (S)

Explore the entire island.

GLITCHED - REQUIRES PATCH 1.04 TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK

There are a total of 72 locations in the game, technically there is only 71 as patch 1.04 made the gas station in Moresby count twice and the developers messed up the counting in the un-patched version of the game. The best way to go about getting this trophy is to make sure you tick each location off or on your first playthrough make sure you get each location in an area before moving onto a new area. This will make tracking them a hell of a lot easier. We have a complete guide for all the locations in the game and also a FAQ: Dead Island Locations Guide

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/20.jpg Ah! Spoiled meat! (B)

Kill a Butcher using an axe.

The first time you encounter a Butcher is in Act III in the Jungle. Butchers are very strong, have bone stumps for hands and will smash you with them. Getting hit by a Butcher will cause you to go flying and hit the ground most of the time, much like thugs do. Axes are powerful weapons so killing one with an axe won't be that hard. You can find axes randomly on merchants so if you ever see one for sale make sure you buy it as getting one again might take a bit of luck. You may weaken him with other types of weapons including guns first, just make sure you finish him off with an Axe. If you have the Bloodbath DLC you will also encounter lots of them on rounds 15+ or so, during each of the four arenas. They appear on random waves and usually spawn in at the start of these waves so equip an axe just before a new round begins.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/21.jpg On, no you don't (B)

Kill a Ram using tackle skill.

The first time you will encounter a Ram is in the beginning of Act II during the Main quest "Ram on Heaven's Door". The only character that has the tackle skill is Sam B. You need to first buy the tackle skill on the skill tree, select all 3 of them so the tackle skill is much more effective:

gxpzhOm.png

Be sure to kill any zombies near the graveyard before you attempt to earn this trophy. Focusing on just the Ram without any enemies nearby will make life easier for you.

The hard part, however, is actually killing the Ram with the tackle skill. You want to first weaken it so it has a spec of health left because the tackle skill only does about 20 damage to it which is hardly anything. Once it is on very low health you want to treat it like a bull i.e stand in front of it and wait for it to charge, once it does then quickly simply step to the right or left and it'll run by you and hit a wall thus stunning itself for a few seconds. You need to use this opportunity to tackle it as much as you can. To tackle, all you have to do is sprint with :ls: into it and you'll automatically tackle it. Keep doing this until it eventually dies, it might take a while given the tackle skill is virtually useless against it.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/22.jpg Gesundheit! (B)

Heal yourself with a medikit 100 times.

You can buy medkits from vendors throughout the game or find them lying around. There are three types of medkit i.e small, medium and large, using any of them will count towards the 100. What we did was buy a ton of small medkits and used them whenever we lost health. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/23.jpg Swing them sticks (S)

Kill 150 enemies using Analog Fighting controls.

For this trophy you need to change to the Analog Fighting Controls, this is done in the control menu which found via the pause menu. Simply change it from "Digital" to "Analog". Analog Fighting Controls mean you now have to hold down :r1: and move :rs: in the direction you want to swing. Say Harry wanted to do a swing from left to right, he'd move the :rs: to the left then swing it to the right while holding :r1:. We found it almost impossible to fight like this using melee weapons, the only way we were getting kills was if the zombie was lying on the floor and they weren't in groups. This is why it's recommended to use the Analog Fighting controls early on in the game. Zombies are also much easier to kill early on in the game since they're weaker. The only kills that count towards this trophy, are ones made with Melee weapons so don't bother using the following (credit to nimrod for this info):

  • Kicks
  • Guns
  • Environmental
  • Head-Jumps

As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

Note: The controls for the PS4 version are slightly different, as you swing your weapon to the right with the :l2: button rather than :r1:.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/29.jpg Right 4 Life (S)

Complete act I with 4 different characters.

You must complete Act 1 (Chapters 1-4) with all 4 of the characters, Logan, Sam B, Purna and Xian. You will need to do the following quests to complete Act 1:

  • Passport to Life
  • Exodus
  • To Kill Time
    • Ashes to Ashes
    • On the Air

    [*]A Piece of Cake

    [*]Seek 'N' Loot

    [*]Born To Be Wild

    [*]Black Hawk Down

    [*]Misery Wagon

    [*]Only the Strong Survive

    [*]On The Road

These are all the main quests and pretty much 90% of them are simple fetch quests. Completing Act 1 takes about 1-2 hours, depending on how efficient you are. There is no need to kill any of the zombies, you can run past pretty much all of them unless the game forces you to kill them. Once you reach town of Moresby, that means you have completed Act 1 and you are free to quit to the main menu after the game has finished auto saving. The trophy will unlock after you have completed it with all 4 characters. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/32.jpg Busy, busy, busy (S)

Finish 75 quests cumulatively.

Both Main and side quests count towards this while continuous quests do not count towards this. If you have completed every side quest you come across, you should get this before the end of Act 3. This trophy is cumulative and it carries across playthroughs so you'll more than likely get this on your way to the plat. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

Reach level 50.

You need a total of 3,008,316 xp to reach level 50. To reach level 50 the normal way you will need to play almost two full playthroughs and have completed every side quest. Luckily there are quite a few farming methods/exploits to get to level 50 fairly easily. We have detailed the best ones below:

  • Method #1 - Champagne Glitch *Not patched, possible on the GOTY Edition*

You need to get yourself at least two bottles of champagne. You can find loads of them in the hotel, just look around the areas with bars and you will more than likely find some of them on shelf's etc. The second place you can get them is in the Lab, located in the Jungle. In the labs are coolers, you can loot these coolers and most of the time you will find a bottle of champagne. Once you have two bottles, you want to head to the Diamond Bungalows area in the Resort. Once here you need to find Svetlana and start her quest "Time for Booze" which will task you to find her a champagne bottle. Now give her one bottle of champagne, this will create a checkpoint. Walk a bit behind you onto the little bridge walkway, just in front of her. You now want to open your inventory and drop all the champagne bottles you have in your inventory (do not drop more than 40, the game will either make them disappear or cause frame-rate issues).

Once you have dropped all the ones you have, find a quick way to kill yourself. As soon as you go down it'll say "Time To Recover 7secs", the moment you see this screen you want to press :start: then "Load Last Checkpoint". If done right, you'll spawn right by Svetlana and near the Champagne bottles you dropped on the floor. You will notice that all the bottles you dropped are still in your inventory, as well as all the ones that you dropped on the floor. All you need to do now is pick all those bottles up from the floor. You can now either go to Svetlana and give her most of the bottles you have (keep around 10-20). You will get 1,000 xp per bottle you give her. To get from level 1 to 50 you will need to give her 3008 bottles of champagne but you will be around level 40-45 when you feel the need to do this glitch so it'll only take you a few hundred bottles or so. For more info on this method, please refer to this thread: http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/191467-xp-glitch-works-goty.html[url=http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/191467-xp-glitch-works-goty.html][/url]

  • Method #2 - Breaking a Thug's Arms Exploit *Patched, impossible on the GOTY Edition*

The only way to do is delete the patch and play the game offline, on the GOTY version it is pre-installed and cannot be deleted. Start the quest "Make yourself at Home", which is found on the way to the gas station on the other side of the hotel. From here you want to climb up and walk along the fence, then jump in the backyard of the house. Go in the house by breaking the door down and you'll see a glitched out thug that just stands there. What you want to do now is break both its arms using a blunt weapon. Once you have done that, you will need to find a pair of knuckle dusters (bought from merchants or found about the island). Once you have a pair, wear them down on normal zombies until they have run out of durability. Now all you need to do is punch the thugs broken arm with the very weak pair of knuckle dusters. It'll do hardly any damage and you'll get 400 xp per punch. When the thug is on low health, reload the last checkpoint to respawn the thug with full health. Here is a video walkthrough for this method, credit to Nvoy123:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZSQi6gVK4w]Dead Island EXP Farming on Thug *patched* - YouTube[/ame]

  • Method #3 - Bloodbath Arena DLC

We found this the best method to grind levels. What you want to do is keep playing the Easy Arena over and over and over. If you can get to wave 30-40 each time then you will get a ton of XP. The later rounds, the zombies pretty much only consist of the special ones (Thugs, Bloaters, Butchers etc.) which you'll get a ton of XP for killing. You will also rack up a lot of XP towards the challenges. Each game we were getting to about wave 40 or so and getting a few hundred thousand XP each time. You need to have good weapons however. We used the Zed's Demise with Shock Mod and pretty much every different type of gun with lots of ammo. The main thing you need to be careful of is falling off the cliff and Suiciders. Suiciders will one hit kill you if you are in the blast radius of their explosion so be careful. We were able to go from level 45 to 50 in a few hours of doing this.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/36.jpg First! (B)

Kill a Suicider with a grenade.

The Suicider's first appearance will be in Act 1 during the "Black Hawk Down" Main quest, but you probably won't have any sort of grenade at this time. Suicider's are bloated zombies that look like they are about to explode. If you shoot or throw a weapon at it then it will explode. Whatever you do, don't melee them. If you are in its blast radius you will die in one hit. Unlike the trophy for killing an infected with a grenade blast, Deo-Bombs and propane tanks work for this. Suicider's walk very slowly, they just shuffle along. Killing one with either 3 of the weapons mentioned above with earn you the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/37.jpg Knock, knock (B)

Breach a locked door with the first blow.

There will be locked doors throughout the game that require you to "Breach" them. When you are prompted to move the :rs: down move it back up when it's in the middle of the line, in the red square in the enter of the line. If done right, and you hit it pretty much in the dead centre you will breach the door in one push. If you don't do it right, you will need to push again. There are plenty of these doors about so you should have no problem getting this trophy.

RJZefYh.png

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/38.jpg Gotta find'em all (B)

Find 60 collectibles.

See Nearly there for more info.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/39.jpg Nearly there (B)

Find 120 collectibles.

Collected Personal IDs, Recordings, Weapon mods and Fact Files carry throughout all of your saves. You can pick up the same collectible in another playthrough and it will still count towards this trophy. There are over 150 collectibles throughout the game so you should have no problems finding 120 of them for the trophy. You will need to replay Act 1 three times regardless and there is at least 40 collectibles in the resort alone. If you are lazy though and don't want to run about the island, you can easily start new games and pick up the fact file in the starting beach cabin. Once you have picked the Fact File up, press :start: and quit to the main menu, then start a new game and remember to skip the Prologue when it gives you the option. Once the loading screen has finished, pick up the fact File. Rinse and repeat. Using this method it took us 15-20 minutes or so to get the last 20 collectibles we needed.

Another way is to load Chapter 6 when starting a new game and as soon as Chapter 6 starts, you will get a weapon mod then you want to head into the back room of the church where the bell system is. You get get a mod from the woman in here and you also want pick up a fact file from the table in here as well. You will get 3 collectibles all together very close to each other. Once you have all 3, quit out and start a new game on Chapter 6 again.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/40.jpg Steam Punk (S)

Create weapons to rival the gods of fire or thunder.

This trophy is quite simple. You will collect various weapon mods throughout the game that allow you to create electricity or fire. When you create your very first weapon with one of these elements, the trophy will unlock. You're first chance to get a Shock Mod will be given to you by Sinamoi in the "Black Hawk Down" main Quest. You will need Duct Tape x2, Wire x2, Battery x2 to create a Shock mod, these items can easily be found on merchants so keep Fast Travelling to each one and checking what misc items they have on them. However, if you just keep looting everything you see then you should have these items in your inventory already.

Join another player's game.

When you join you're first online game you will unlock this. By default the game will set the connection settings to LAN which will be useless to most of you. To change this, go into the settings option on the main menu and change it to PSN. You cannot change your connection type in-game.

Kill 100 enemies with Fury attacks.

Each time you level up you get rewarded with a skill point which you use to unlock various abilities. You need to buy the following to unlock Fury attacks:

W7vj8n6.png

Once you have the skill then you can then use Fury attacks. You will notice that there is a circle next to your health bar that fills up as you kill zombies. Once this circular bar is full it will flash red. Once it is flashing red, you can hold down :circle: and unleash your Fury attack. Logan can throw knifes at zombies in range when you press :r1:. Purna has a gun you can shoot zombies with. Sam B has Knuckle Dusters and you hit zombies with them as you usually would. Finally, Xian has a sickle you can melee enemies with. You may get this just by playing the game, if you buy the Fury skill early on and use it efficiently, if not then you can just walk around Moresby and keep killing zombies with it. We recommend Puma best to farm Fury kills since her maxed out Fury skill can lock onto several zombies at once, thus killing several zombies in one Fury attack.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/45.jpg People Person (B)

Play with 10 different co-op partners for at least 15 minutes each.

As the description says, you must play with 10 different co-op partners for at least 15 minutes each. Keep joining random games and the trophy will unlock eventually. To join other players games, press :start: then go to "Game Lobby". A screen full of all available lobbies will come up and it'll let you join any of them. If you cannot find lobbies for whatever reason, you can use the http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/46.jpg Ménage à trois (B)

Complete 5 quests with 3 co-op partners.

You must be in a full lobby so that there is 4 players in total, including yourself. All you need to do then is complete any 5 quests, wherever it be a main or side quest. Also it does not have to be the same 3 partners, just as long as you complete 5 quests with 3 partners. If you are looking for partners to get this trophy with, then you can use the http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

Note: This trophy can be glitchy if you don't turn in the quests yourself so be sure to turn them in personally whenever you complete one.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/47.jpg Originality (B)

Play in a co-op team of 4 different playable characters.

This one can be quite tricky as you have to be in a lobby with all 4 different characters. Logan, Sam B, Purna and Xian. The best way we found was to search for a game and check what characters were in that lobby, but most people choose Sam B as it is so getting all 4 different is pretty tricky. The best way to get this trophy is to boost it using the http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/48.jpg Together in the light (B)

Complete 5 quests in a single co-op game with the same partners.

Unlike most of the co-op trophies, this one requires you to complete 5 quests with the same partners. 5 quests isn't much and they can be a mixture of main or side quests, finish them and the trophy will unlock. If you are looking for partners for this trophy then you can use the http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

Note: This trophy can be glitchy if you don't turn in the quests yourself so be sure to turn them in personally whenever you complete one.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/49.jpg Going steady (B)

Complete 25 quests while playing with at least one co-op partner.

This does not have to be completed with the same partner, it can be with various partners. You just have to complete 25 quests in co-op and the trophy will unlock. The quests can be a mixture of main or side ones, it doesn't matter which. I found that joining random lobbies was the best way to get this as they tend to stick around for a while and complete quests, just be wary of people using hacked weapons. If you would like to find partners for this trophy then use this thread: http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/dead-island/122845-trophy-boosting-co-op-partners-thread-read-first-post.html

Note: This trophy can be glitchy if you don't turn in the quests yourself so be sure to turn them in personally whenever you complete one.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/24.jpg Everybody lies (B)(H)

Use a large medkit to heal an injury of 5% or less.

Note: As the description states, you need to use a large medkit and not a small or medium one.

The best way to get this is by hurting yourself until your health is at 50% or lower, use medium medkits until your life bar is almost full then use a large medkit to heal yourself. It's tricky to inflict 5% or less damage to yourself as zombies will do a lot more than that regardless of their type and level. You can, however, touch flames for a brief second and it should inflict a tiny amount of damage to you. Large medkits are hard to come by but they can easily be bought from most merchants in the game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/30.jpg A very special day (B)(H)

Kill 250 zombies with modified weapons.

Modified weapons are any weapons you have upgraded or added mods to at a workbench. You should just get this trophy naturally as you will be modding/upgrading your weapons a lot to survive the game. You will more than likely unlock this on your first playthrough. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/31.jpg How many days exactly? (B)(H)

Play Dead Island at least 28 days after starting it for the first time.

GLITCHED

You might get this naturally, if the (P) takes you longer than 28 days. Note: Even with the 1.04 patch installed, the 28 day timer seems to be glitched. Also note that the Clock changing exploit doesn't work with the PS now version of the game, as attempting to change the system time will cause login errors and lock you out of your PS Now account. The easiest way to get this though is to do as follows:

  1. Make sure you have the 1.04 patch installed.
  2. Load Dead Island and get to an autosave.
  3. Quit to the XMB.
  4. Go to "Settings" => "Date and Time Settings" and change the date so it's a month ahead.
  5. Load Dead Island and it should unlock on the main menu.

Terminator has some theories as to why this trophy sometimes glitches:

1: You need to play for 28 consecutive days.

2: All 28 days must be in the same month, not spread out over several.

3: It's a combination of the above. There's also the possibility that the DLC screws up the timer somehow but I can't prove it.

When this glitched on me I decided to play for an additional 3 days but it still didn't pop, nor did it after advancing the system clock 1 month. In the end I had to move the clock forward 2 or 3 months before the trophy actually popped. I also had to turn off the auto clock sync option and stay signed out of PSN for the clock trick to work.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/930/41.jpg Savior (B)(H)

Save 5 people besieged by zombies.

To get this trophy you must save 5 people being attacked by zombies, you will see an '!" icon on the mini-map if there are any nearby. Usually they are inside a house and the zombies are trying to get inside or they are on top of a high object with zombies surrounding them. An example of this would be in the beginning of the game while travelling to the Lifeguard Tower. There will be zombies trying to get inside a truck with a survivor begging for help. Simply kill all the zombies around him and it'll count as 1 of the 5. You have to complete Act 1 at least 3 times anyway so will get more than 3 chances just to farm this one guy. There's no need to worry about this trophy. As with every trophy, you can check your progress in the "Extras" => "Trophies" part of the pause menu. If you save 5 people, and this trophy doesn't unlock, you can try saving these 5 and the trophy will unlock then.

Finally got Savior to work!!

Although the There and Back Again trophy description says 72 locations there are only 71 actual locations in the game, the Moresby Gas Station counts twice after the 1.04 patch. Prior to the 1.04 patch, this trophy is glitched and impossible to obtain. The best way to get this without having any trouble towards the end is by doing it in an organized fashion. What I mean by organized is before you leave the Resort in Act 1 to Moresby, make sure you have 18 discovered locations, 45 before you leave Moresby to the Jungle and complete Act II and 57 before you go to the Prison and complete Act III. You can also print out this guide and make a checklist if needed.

Almost every location will come naturally if you complete every Main/Side mission, there are only 4 locations that you will have to go out of your way to discover i.e 34. Riverside, 39. Western Waterfront, 50. Jungle Village and 51. Overpass Camp. Also be aware that if you play in co-op then make sure your co-op partner doesn't run off ahead of you and go into story related rooms. Instances like this are the Server Room in the hotel. It is possible for a co-op partner to go into the Server Room, complete what is need to be completed and you can never go into it. This will make it so the location never counted for you. To be safe, go for this trophy in solo or stick with your co-op partners at all times.

FAQ

Q. I swear I have been to all the locations in the game, but have not got 72/72 locations yet.

A. Have you tried restarting your game? The Moresby Gas Station counts twice so you need to visit it again and restart your game, then come back to it. This will make the counter go up by 1. You also may be missing the most commonly missed one i.e where the capsized boat is at the very bottom of Moresby. You have to go out of your way for this one as you won't encounter this beach as part of the main quest line or side quests.

Q. My co-op partners went ahead of me and I was never able to get some locations in the Hotel, how can I get them again?

A. Unfortunately, you'll need to start a new game and go to those locations. You can only access the main part of the hotel once, you cannot go back to it. Don't worry though, locations carry across save files so ones you have already found you will not need to find again.

Q. How can I tell which ones I have been to and which I haven't?

A. You cannot, the only way would be for you to make your own checklist

To view a map of each of the locations, see here: Dead Island Maps (credit goes to the Dead Island Wikia).

Nice looking guide you guys. :D Good thing I didn't actually get around to doing the platinum and wasting my own time doing the old methods for XP and loot grinding. :p That'll help out when I get around to finishing this in a week or two.

Did find a typo in your roadmap:

The main goal of this step is to get to level 50 and getting 5 exceptional weapons. You should, after completing all the steps above, be around level 40 - 45. There is quite a few methods to grind the remaining few levels, all of which have been detailed in the guide below. Also, you will want to go for any trophy you may have missed. You more than likely still need 120 collectibles, but there is an easy way to get them quickly which again, is explained in the guide below. Simply go through your trophy list and clean p any trophies you may be missing. You will earn the following trophies during this step:

You're missing the u from "up" there. Also TIL there's an indent BB code :p

Another great guide guys!

I was about to start a new guide for this myself, but you beat me to it. Now I know why you didn't reply to my message Harry :D

Rude! :p

I might actually get around to doing this sometime soon now, I've been waiting for you to get the guide up before I started it :D

Nice guide and all, but I don't see how the other one is bad. I got the plat just fine by using the other one. I guess this is a little better, but was it really worth it?

Well as someone who hasn't played the game yet, I find the other guide really hard to follow and not very helpful whatsoever. Particularly in regards to the multiplayer trophies, this sheds a lot more light on what I'd actually need to do.

Not just that, but the "hardest" trophy in the game doesn't even have a farming method whatsoever to farm 5 orange weapons.

If we didn't feel like our guide would make a huge impact, then we wouldn't have bothered to challenge it. Heck, even collins was thinking about challenging the guide, so that just shows how much the current guide needed to be maintained. No disrespect to the current author, but this game has a ton of bugs and glitches that need to be well addressed.
