Survive the mayhem!

Are you clever enough to survive a Zombie Armageddon? Don’t panic! Use your brain first and, if necessary, your sledgehammer. In the ‘50s Rock’n’Roll music spawned straight from hell and was so evil that it turned dead people into Zombies! Three survivors – Jack Foster a construction worker, Foxy Jones a traffic warden, and Mike Bacon a perpetually hungry boy scout – have formed an unlikely alliance to protect themselves from the invading undead. Hiding in abandoned buildings, they build blockades, set traps and – as a last resort – use weapons to fight the Zombies. Outlive the Zombie invasion alone or fight with your friends in split-screen cooperative mode.

Step One: Simply Enjoy The Game:

I recommend that you choose to play the game on Easy or Normal for the first time to make all the trophies much easier to obtain. While playing through the game you'll become very skilled with the game's interactions and how to protect yourself from the undead by building blockades and traps. On this playthrough your main goal is to unlock all the levels to unlock the Game Complete trophy. While playing through the game for the first time you'll also be able to pick up some other trophies naturally. The game only has a total of 10 levels which will take you about 5-7 hours to complete.

Step Two Earn: Gold Medals On Every Level:

The main focus for this playthrough is to earn all the gold medals on every level to unlock the Medal Seeker trophy. Gold medals can only be earned by playing the game on Hard. Please refer to the Medal Seeker trophy description for more information.

Step Three: Mop Up:

If you missed any other trophies use the Episode Select and clean up the trophies that you missed if needed. Please refer to the trophy descriptions for the best levels to do the trophies on as well.

Conclusion:

Dead Block has an impression of Nazi Zombies without guns, but is very repetitive. There are no online options and only offers local split screen and the gameplay will get boring fast. Dead Block can offer gamers at least 12 hours of gameplay. Maybe in the future DLC will make up for the repetitive gameplay?

Trophy Guide:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/01.jpg Jack the Builder (B)

Put blockades on every door and window in one level.

For this trophy you must build blockades on every door and window in a single level. It’s recommended that you do this on the very first level, “Tutorial” because it has the least amount of doors and windows to build blockades on. On the Tutorial level there are a total of 8 things that you’ll need to put blockades on to unlock your trophy. Just simply play through the Tutorial as normal and remember to destroy furniture for more wood supplies and to search for the required keys to open up the 2 locked doors.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/02.jpg Poo Dance (S)

Make ten infected zombies dance at the same time.

Mike Bacon and at least one coin are needed for this trophy. Coins are found in searchable objects throughout the levels. This trophy is best done on the 5th level “High School” where you’re required to make 10 or more infected zombies dance at the same time. Infected simply means that you’ll need to use Mike’s Toilet Trap and let that zombie come in to infect the other zombies with flies flying around their heads due to the poo. Also keep in mind that doing this on Easy will make getting this trophy much easier to obtain. Okay, now that I explained what infected zombies are now it’s time to go into the details how to unlock the trophy.

First of all, you’ll need to make it to the end of level where the guitar is located at. It’s best if you leave both Jack and Foxy locked up in another room where zombies can’t get to them by building a blockade to seal them inside (they’ll get in your way). Once you’re in the room that has both the Jukebox and the guitar put blockades on the windows and run around the room and destroy all the chairs scattered across the room in order to make space to run around freely and safely to avoid the zombies that you plan to infect. Once you’re ready unblock some windows to let some zombies in and try to leave other zombies behind a blockade. The room should be filling with a load of zombies, so run around in a circle and try to count more than 10 standard zombies types for they’re the ones that count towards the trophy unlocking (the astronaut zombies don’t count). Once you’re confident that you have over 10 zombies that will dance. Run towards the windows and build a Toilet Trap in replace of the blockades and windows. The zombie or zombies that come in through the Toilet Trap will infect all the zombies in the room so quickly insert a coin into the Jukebox to cause the infected zombies to dance. Once 10 or more infected zombies are dancing at the same time your trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/03.jpg Nightshift (B)

Play five minutes in darkness.

This trophy can be first be done on the 6th level, “Mansion” or the 9th level “Hotel” for these are the only two levels in the entire game where blackouts will occur. There are light lanterns that spark electricity and eventually a zombie will walk into it causing a blackout to occur. When the lights go out and you’re playing in the game in the dark now. Simply continue playing the game as normal and don’t bother to turn the lights on at all. Once you’ve played 5 minutes in the darkness your trophy will unlock. If you’re playing on Easy or Normal then you should have no problems surviving in the darkness.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/04.jpg All Traps (S)

Build every trap and a wood blockade in one level.

For this trophy you’ll need all three characters. You must build every trap and a wooden blockade in a single level. This is first possible to do on the 9th level “Hotel” and can also be done on the last level “Record Label” as well. Some things to take note are that you only need one character to build a wood blockade. All the traps will need to be active at the same time so it’s best to build Foxy’s Bomb Trap last because that trap can detonate automatically while you’re building the other character’s traps. The last thing to take note of is that you’ll need about 32 ingredients to make the traps. Below are the required traps:

Jack: Nitrogen, Helmet, and Concrete Blockade Traps

Mike: Cardboard, Sunbed, and Toilet Traps

Foxy: The Rolling Pin, Microwave, and Bomb Traps

Any Character: Wood Blockade Trap

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/05.jpg Bomber (B)

Kill twenty zombies with a single bomb trap.

Foxy Jone’s is needed for this trophy. Foxy has the best trap within the whole game, the Bomb Trap. For this trophy you must kill over 20 zombies with a single bomb trap. I recommend you do this trophy on the 6th level, “Mansion” because you’re only controlling Foxy on that level and you’ll need to kill a lot of zombies to complete the level anyway. Go around the level destroying furniture for wood and searching objects for making the Bomb Trap. Once you have a lot of zombies on the screen run around them and block the hallways with wooden blockades to keep them from escaping. Once you feel that you gathered well over 20 zombies lead the zombies to a doorway and build a Bomb Trap there. The zombies will all gather next to the bomb with nowhere to escape its destruction. Once the bomb goes off and it kills over 20 zombies your trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/06.jpg Work force (B)

Employ 20 construction zombies at the same time.

Jack Foster is needed for this trophy. For this trophy you’re required to employ over 20 construction zombies at the same time. To employ construction zombies you’ll need to use Jack’s Helmet Trap. I recommend that you go for this trophy on the 5th level, “High School”. First make sure that you have a lot of Helmet Traps to make at your disposal by searching through objects and breaking stuff (you can use Mike to search for ingredients faster). Once you have a lot of Helmet Traps run around the level and build the traps on the doors and windows that zombies will walk through or come from. Remember not to kill any of the zombies at all while doing this. Eventually you’ll have well over 20 zombies wearing construction helmets for your trophy to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/07.jpg Dead can Dance (B)

Activate the Jukebox and make a zombie dance.

You need at least one coin for this trophy. Coins are found in searchable objects throughout the levels. You’ll find the first Jukebox on the 2nd level, "Diner" and for the rest of the remaining levels. Once you found a Jukebox and you have a coin in your possession and have at least one or more zombies in a room with a Jukebox. Run up to the Jukebox and insert the coin into the Jukebox by pressing :square: to make the zombie or zombies dance. Once a zombie is dancing to the sound of Rock’n’Roll music your trophy will unlock. Also keep in mind that certain zombies who are bigger/stronger than the normal standard zombies won’t be affected by the Jukebox and they don’t count towards the trophy unlocking.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/08.jpg Cactustime (B)

While playing Mike, search four cacti in a row.

Mike Bacon is needed for this trophy. While playing as Mike you must search four cacti in a row. This is best done on the 4th level, “Family House” because there are a total of 5 cacti throughout that level. When you start the level off, run towards Mike and talk to him in order to add him into your party. Now switch control to Mike by pressing :l1: and run through the level looking only for the cacti plants and search through them in a row. You’ll find 3 cacti on the lower floor and 2 more upstairs and you can’t missed them for they stick out. Remember not to search any other type of searchable items in between your searches or you’ll have to reply the level all over again because it has to be done in a row only. This trophy can also be done on the very last level of “Record Label” but I still recommend doing this trophy on the Family House level instead because it’s much smaller than the Record Label’s level which is too large.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/09.jpg Quintupel Super Awesome (B)

Build five blockades with super awesome finish in a row.

Jack Foster is needed for this trophy for he’s the only character in the game that can build a super awesome blockade. To build a super awesome blockade means that you must hit all the green bars 5 times in a row for one single blockade. It’s recommended that you do this on Easy difficulty because it’ll make hitting the green bars much easier because Easy will make the green bars bigger for you to hit. The best level to go for this trophy is on the 8th level, “Bungalow” so run around the level destroying furniture for wood until you have over 25+ woods. Once you have a lot of wood run towards the doors and windows and put up blockades over them with super awesome finishes by hitting the green bar every time. Do this 5 times in a row and your trophy will unlock after finishing the last one with a super awesome finish. Note that if you mess up and missed a green bar then you must retry all over again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/10.jpg Multikill (B)

While playing Foxy, kill three zombies with one melee attack.

Foxy Jones is needed for this trophy. In order to get this trophy you must kill three zombies with one melee attack. I recommend that you do this trophy on Easy difficulty because Easy makes you inflict more damage towards enemies. This is very easy to do if you know how to kill multiple zombies at once. One method is to destroy furniture until you find a power up. Now gather zombies together in a room and pick up the power up and attack the group of zombies that you’ve gather together. A second way you can do this by searching for a TV antenna and placing it on a TV. Now gather a group of zombies together and lead them to the TV with the antenna. They’ll stare at it and will allow you to melee kill them simultaneously for your trophy to unlock. The final way to melee kill three zombies is by using Mike's cheeseburger to distract zombies and then having Foxy melee kill the zombies by the cheeseburger. Here's a video for demonstration:

Self explanatory and also story related. Simply complete all 10 levels of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1014/12.jpg Medal Seeker (G)

Win all gold medals in all singleplayer levels.

This is the only difficult trophy to obtain. You’re required to obtain all the gold medals in every level of the game. To win gold medals you must play the game on hard to obtain the gold medals. Each level requires you to do the following in full:

Destroy Objects: Destroy certain number of furniture for that level

Search Objects: Search number of searchable objects for that level

Kill Zombies: Kill required amount of zombies or over the required amount for that level

Number of Deaths: Cleared a level without dying for that level (includes AI party members not dying as well)

This trophy will take the most of your time since it’s harder to build up blockades and zombies are stronger and while you are weaker with slower health regeneration. While going for this trophy I suggest that you destroy and search through objects first because the more items and supplies you have for building traps will help aid you. The best characters in the game are both Mike Bacon and Foxy Jones who both also have fast searches (Mike searches slightly faster than Foxy). Mike has the Toilet and Cardboard Traps that can cause zombies to attack and kill each other. Although Mike’s Cardboard Trap is more effective to use because the zombies will have boxes over their heads and will wonder around and leave you alone while you’re destroying and searching objects. Foxy Jones is the strongest character in the game in terms of melee strength and she has the best trap called the Bomb Trap, which can kill a lot of zombies at once to reduce the amount of zombies you’ll need to kill left.

Medal Seeker Survival Tips:

  1. Jack Frost: He’s not really the best character to use for doing the gold medals, however, he has the best blockade building traps in the whole game. His best trap is the Concrete Blockade Trap which can stop zombies from coming in from a door or window completely. So use Jack to put up his Concrete Blockade Trap in places where a lot of zombies will come from or use it to protect your characters from dying by stealing them in a room with his Concrete Blockade Trap.
  2. Mike Bacon: Mike is one of the best characters to use in the game for doing the gold medals. Use his Cardboard Trap to put boxes on zombie’s heads and they won’t attack you at all but will attack other zombies adding more zombie kills to your count meter. Also be sure to use his special smartbomb attack by pressing :square: to throw a cheeseburger so zombies can be distracted by its smell. Eventually his smartbomb will become upgraded to have a dynamite bomb in the cheeseburger to kill multiple zombies distracted by it.
  3. Foxy Jones: Foxy is one of the best characters to use in the game for doing the gold medals. Use her Bomb Trap for it’s the best trap in the entire game and has incredible destruction power to destroy every zombie near it. Also be sure to use her smartbomb ability by pressing :square: to kill zombies that get in your way. Eventually her taser gun will be upgraded to a revolver and a shotgun which can kill 6-12 zombies at once.
  4. Searching objects: Use only Mike or Foxy while playing through the levels for the gold medals because these two have the best searching abilities and can get the job and objectives done much faster. Never use Jack to search because he has the slowest searching abilities.
  5. Put up wood blockades: Blockade all the windows and doors within a room that you’re working on. This helps you stall for time while you’re destroying and searching objects. Also let the AI keep the wooden blockades up and running properly if you’re with a party. Once you collected all the items within a room that you’ve worked on in full, then breakdown and remove your blockades to get back your wooden supplies and move towards another room and repeat the putting up wood blockades process (If you had AI with you in the room manually move them with you).
  6. Useable items: While searching through objects you'll find useful useable items such as coins, Jukebox, soda machines, meat, and TV antennas. Use these items to help aid you against the undead especially the TV antennas because they help you clear a room for no zombies will bother to attack you if there's a TV in the room with an antenna.
  7. Survive the mayhem: For every level you must not die at all which includes your party members not dying as well. It’s best to try and do this last if you can for a gold medal. You don’t want to have to destroy or kill all the zombies all over again. Once you earned a gold medal you’ll have that medal forever only if you cleared a level, so attempt this gold medal last as a speed run. All you have to do is get to that guitar and play it as fast as possible by using Mike or Foxy to search through objects only looking for the guitar parts. I also suggest that you seal up party members in a safe room so zombies won’t kill them if you’re not using them.

Thank you all for being patient and enjoy the guide.

Good effort there.

But, does the game repetitiveness make it really boring?

Granted I love survival games.

It was fun for the first 12 hours then when going for the gold medals it got very repetitive. It's more of a survival puzzle type game although you can still kill and melee zombies.

I'm having a pain of a time trying to get all gold medals and for some reason i can't get the poo dance trophy to work

Yes the gold medals was a real pain to do. Try doing the destroying, searching, and kills first if you can without dying. If you die on a level just come back to that level later once you gotten all the other medals for a level. It's best to attempt the not dying part as a speed run.

For the poo trap. Try leading a huge group of zombies into a room with the Jukebox on the High school level. The astronauts won't count towards the dancing trophy. I'll build about three Toilet traps and once that zombie comes in. Let him walk around to infect the other zombies. You'll see the flies flying around all zombies heads and they'll be getting hurt. Once flies are all over the place then try inserting your coin into the Jukebox. I hope this helps, If not then try doing the Poo Dance trophy on the last level of Record Label foe that is also another good level to do it on since it'll also have a lot of zombie that will over run the level.

Thanks I actually feel a little dumb I didn't realize you could obtain each of the medals individually so that helps alot. yea my prob with the poo dance is i get so many zombies in the room and no more will come in i even try killing some astronaut zombies so more will come but nothing

Another thing you can do if that were to happen to you is you can run into another and with no zombies in it. Then build a Toilet Trap there and zombies will follow you into the room and become infected. Then quickly run out of it before they block you path of escaping the room.

Finally got the poo dance trophy thanks man. Now I'm working on the gold medals I keep getting stuck on the mansion though

I now have all the gold medals except for the mansion I get so far and get stuck and killed

For the Masion level, I'm assuming you need to all the medals? That level requires to you kill zombies to clear the level. It's best to destroy objects and search to make your bombs to lock the doors to stall for time. Put up a wooden block if you have to. then clear that room. If the power goes out on this level I found it easier to turn the lights on because getting hit in the dark made it somewhat harder for me on this level because your screen flashes red and you're unable to see clearly in the dark with the red flashing screen.

Great guide! It would have really helped me when I was playing it at release for a review but I did manage to get all trophies. Review will be up today actually since I had to delay it for a couple of days due to work.

Does the DLC have any new trophies or is it just a level pack (not that it's a bad thing since I enjoyed the game itself)?

Thank you for the comment. No the DLC ad-on doesn't have any trophies. It's just an expansion for extra levels to do as of the current moment.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally finished the mansion i was basically doing as you said but my biggest problem was with the order i cleared the rooms. i kept doing the front room first but then i decided to do the hallway first then move to the dining room and kitchen then bedroom and bathrrom and save the front room and the room with the zombomatic for the last.
