Introduction:

8 months after it was released on the Xbox360 as the first Skyrim DLC pack, Dawnguard finally sees a release on the Playstation 3. Boasting a substantial amount of additional content, Dawnguard revolves around an ancient prophecy that foretells the blotting out of the Sun. The player has the choice of joining the Volkihar (a powerful clan of Vampires attempting to fulfil the prophecy) or the Dawnguard (a group of Vampire hunters battling to prevent the world from being plunged into irrevocable darkness). Also included in Dawnguard are a bunch of new side-quests, three new Shouts, two new perk trees and the highest species of dragon (the Legendary Dragon).

The trophies in this DLC are related to all of the side-quests and the main quest, but should not pose any more difficulty than the main game. They can, however, be particularly time consuming. Legend in particular requires you to be around Level 78 before Legendary Dragons start appearing. If you reached Level 50 in the main game for the Master trophy and then stopped playing, you'll be looking at a minimum of 30 hours of solid levelling to reach Level 78. Luckily, there is an exploit to reach max level (81) in around 8 hours. See the trophy description for Legend for more details.

Note that from this point on, this guide will contain spoilers for the Companions questline. If you do not want to know important details about that particular questline, do not read on here until you have completed the Companions quest "The Silver Hand".

Note on the missable trophy: There is one missable trophy in Dawnguard, but thankfully this time it is not caused by something you may have done much earlier in the main game, therefore it is avoidable if you are mindful of it before you start the DLC. The trophy in question is Werewolf Mastered which requires you to learn all perks in the Werewolf perk tree. The only way you can become a werewolf is by completing "The Silver Hand" for the Companions (which is mandatory if you wish to continue the Companions questline). At the end of the Companions questline you have the choice to keep your Lycanthropy or be cured of it. If you chose the latter don't worry as, with the installation of Dawnguard, you can visit Aela the Huntress in Jorrvaskr in Whiterun and she will turn you into a werewolf again but this can only be done once. Therefore if you cure your Lycanthropy again or choose to turn into a Vampire before you have earned this trophy, you will be unable to achieve it.

Walkthrough:

Step 1 - Complete the main quest

Your first step should be to complete the main quest, which comprises the following missions:
  • Dawnguard
  • Awakening
  • Bloodline
  • A New Order (Dawnguard) / The Bloodstone Chalice (Vampire)
  • Prophet
  • Chasing Echoes
  • Beyond Death
  • Seeking Disclosure
  • Unseen Visions
  • Touching The Sky
  • Kindred Judgement
In order to start the DLC you must be level 10 or above then enter one of the 9 major cities in Skyrim. You should be approached by an Orc named Durak, who will ask the player to join the Dawnguard by visiting them at Fort Dawnguard. If he does not appear, talk to one of the cities' guards and they will tell you that the Dawnguard are recruiting. Make sure that you activate the quest in your quest menu to bring up the quest marker, since you are unable to walk directly to Fort Dawnguard as the game blocks your way. You must instead go through Dayspring Canyon, located South-East of Riften.

When you start the quest "Bloodline", make sure to make a new save. This is because this mission gives you the choice of sides: Dawnguard or Vampire, so if you wish to play through both sides (which isn't required for a trophy), you can do so without having to start a new character. I would highly recommend earning the Auriel's Bow trophy as soon as you receive the weapon of the same name at the end of "Touching The Sky".

I would also recommend working towards unlocking perks for either the Werewolf or the Vampire Lord during the main quest to save you from excess grinding later. Once you complete this step, you are guaranteed to earn at least the following trophies:
Awakening
Beyond Death
Kindred Judgement
Step 2 - Miscellaneous trophies

Once you complete the story, you should mop up some of the miscellaneous trophies, such as completing the "Lost to the Ages" sidequest, learning the "Soul Tear" Shout, changing your character's appearance and using the power of Auriel's Bow if you didn’t already get it during the main quest. By the end of this step you should have the following trophies:
Lost to the Ages
Soul Tear
Auriel's Bow
A New You
Step 3 - Completing the Werewolf and Vampire Lord perk trees

This step is a bit of a grind as you will need to kill quite a lot of enemies in order to unlock all 11 perks in each tree. There are also many ways to go about this step. If you are already a Werewolf before starting Dawnguard, you can unlock all perks before "Bloodline" and then accept Harkon's Gift and become a Vampire Lord and then unlock all those perks. Conversely you may not have started the Companions questline, which means you can become a Vampire Lord first, then later obtain Lycanthropy and earn all the Werewolf perks. You can even decline Harkon's Gift if you wish, and become a Vampire Lord or Werewolf at a later time, as that option is available to you too. The choice is yours but either way you will probably have to grind one or both of the perk trees upon completion of the main story. By the end of this step you will have the following two trophies:
Werewolf Mastered
Vampire Mastered
Step 4 - Legend

This step may have been completed earlier if you were already at level 78 or above when you started the DLC. However, if you are at a lower level, this will likely be the last trophy you earn. You will need to either grind for many hours to be at a high enough level for a Legendary Dragon to spawn or use an exploit to level up quickly. See the trophy description for more details. Either way, at the end of this step you will have the following trophy and 100% for this DLC:
Legend

Lost to the Ages
Complete "Lost to the Ages"

"Lost to the Ages" is an extremely long sidequest exclusive to Dawnguard. There are a number of steps required to complete it:

1. Find and take a copy of The Aetherium Wars:

The Aetherium Wars is a book found only with the Dawnguard expansion. You may have picked it up from one of the following locations during your playthrough:
  • Bard's College
  • Castle Dour Dungeon
  • Castle Volkihar Undercroft
  • Dragonsreach (Farengar's Lab)
  • Fellglow Keep
  • Fort Dawnguard
  • Fort Snowhawk
  • Hall of the Vigilant
  • Ilinalta's Deep
  • Palace of the Kings
  • Rannveig's Fast
  • Redwater Den
  • Ruunvald Temple
  • Thalmor Embassy
  • Understone Keep (Calcelmo's Dwemer Museum)
However if you have completed the main story and still don't have the book, by far the most convenient location is off the body of Katria in Arkngthamz. Since this is where you will have to travel once you find the book anyway, it is much simpler and quicker to travel there.

2. Travel to Arkngthamz and obtain the first Aetherium Sjard:

Arkngthamz is located in The Reach, South-East of Markarth. If you don't have the book and are going straight there, the quest marker won't be on your map so use the following image to help you (thanks to the Elder Scrolls Wiki):

Once you enter the location, navigate through a few rooms before you come upon Katria's body. Take her journal and a copy of The Aetherium Wars if you don't already have it. Work your way through the ruins until you reach the Tonal Lock. Here you must shoot the Kinetic Resonators in a certain order to unlock the door in front of you. You can use any bow and arrows that you have with you but if by any chance you don't have one then you can retrieve Katria's bow, the "Zephyr", from a nearby log.

The order you must shoot the Resonators in are: bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right and bottom middle. Shooting them in the wrong order will lead to various enemies and traps attacking you. Once you have opened the door, go through it and claim the first Shard of Aetherium. Aetherium is a crystallised substance that you can craft a powerful item out of later in the quest.

3. Claim the other three Aetherium Shards:

Once you claim an Aetherium Shard, your quest marker will change location to another Shard. The locations of the different Shards never change, but the order they appear in does. The following are the three different locations of Aetherium Shards:

Deep Folk Crossing

This is an easy one that doesn't require much exploration. Simply go to the bridge and cross it heading south. Walk a short distance south and this Shard will be on a plinth at the top of a small hill.

Mzulft

This Shard isn't actually located inside the ruins of Mzulft, but rather the Dwarven Storeroom to the south of its entrance. To open the initial door you will need to pick the Apprentice lock, then to claim the Shard you will need to pick an Expert level lock on the gate which stands in front of it. This will require you to either have a high Lockpicking level or a lot of lockpicks. If you are planning to get 100% in this DLC you will have to be a very high level for Legend anyway, so you can always save this part until your level is much higher.

DarqueDragon has found a way to obtain the Shard without needing to pick the Expert lock:

Raldbthar

If you have done the quest "Mourning Never Comes" for the Dark Brotherhood, the first half of this dungeon should be clear, meaning you can run straight through until you get to Raldbthar Deep Market. At the end of this area, you will need to unblock four gears by removing various items which are jamming them. Once you have done this, press the button which will lower the bridge. Fight through some more rooms and you will eventually come upon the Shard.

4. Find the Aetherium Forge:

To find the entrance to the Forge, you will need to consult Katria's Journal. The location is the Ruins of Bthalft just south of Ivarstead. Once there, place the four Shards on the globe with the arrow through it. Go down the lift that appears and work your way through the ruin. Again, you will have to shoot two Kinetic Resonators to gain access to the Forge room.

Once you are in the Forge room, you will have to shut off the two valves to stop the steam coming from the floor, and then defeat a variety of Dwarven machines. The final one will be the Forgemaster, a very powerful Dwarven Centurion who can breathe fire at you.

5. Forge an Aetherium item:

Once he is defeated take some supplies from the chest to the right of the room which you will need to forge an Aetherium item. Then go up to the Forge and you will be given a choice of crafting either the Aetherial Crown, the Aetherial Shield or the Aetherial Staff. Note: Once you forge an Aetherium item, you cannot forge any other and you will be forced to keep this item permanently.

Once the item is made, speak to Katria and this quest will be completed thus earning you this trophy.

Soul Tear
Learn all three words of Soul Tear

"Soul Tear" is a new shout exclusive to Dawnguard which allows you to rip the souls out of enemies, filling a Soul Gem and allowing the deceased to be raised from the dead as an ally. Unlike other Shouts in the game, "Soul Tear" is learned in a unique way:

First of all, you must have defeated Durnehviir during the "Beyond Death" quest in the Dawnguard main storyline. Once you do this and leave the Boneyard, he will automatically stop you and talk to you. He will teach you all three words of a Shout called "Summon Durnehviir", which you must unlock with three Dragon Souls. After you have done this, every time you summon him (as with any normal Shout, by holding ) he will teach you a new word of "Soul Tear". The recharge period of "Summon Durnehviir" is 5 minutes so once you can Shout again, summon him to learn a new word. To avoid having to actually wait 5 minutes, if you press then wait for 2-3 hours, the cool-down period will be over and you can cast the Shout again (thanks Bounty V for this tip!). Do this 3 times to fully learn the Shout and unlock this trophy. You do not need to unlock any of the three words with a Dragon Soul to earn this trophy; just knowing the three words is fine.

Note: You can only summon Durnehviir in wide open areas as he emerges from the ground so indoor, mountainous and wooded areas are not suitable. For further clarification on this, see Bounty V's explanation below:

Auriel's Bow
Use the special power of Auriel's Bow

To unlock this trophy you must first acquire Auriel's Bow at the end of "Touching The Sky", which is the penultimate quest of the Dawnguard main storyline. Once you have acquired it you are given twelve Sunhallowed Elven Arrows by Knight-Paladin Gelebor. As soon as you get these, simply aim at the Sun with Auriel's Bow and the Sunhallowed Arrows equipped and fire a shot directly towards the Sun. The Sun will grow extremely large and explode, causing beams of light to fire down, harming enemies (especially Vampires). Note: The trophy will not unlock until the explosion has finished, which is around 30 seconds to a minute after you fire your arrow so do not worry if it doesn't pop immediately.

If you have used all 12 Sunhallowed Arrows before you have unlocked this trophy, you can get more from Gelebor in groups of twenty. You have to bring at least 20 Elven Arrows to him and he will turn them into Sunhallowed Elven Arrows. Furthermore, you can obtain Bloodcursed Elven Arrows from Serana in the same manner. These arrows have a different special power, however, which is to blot out the sun for a whole day (which is particularly useful if you chose the Vampire path). Using either power will grant you this trophy.

You may also have difficulty locating the Sun in the sky if it is particularly cloudy or stormy. Therefore, if you have completed "Alduin's Wall" in the main Skyrim quest, you can use your "Clear Skies" shout to make the Sun clearly visible in the sky.

Werewolf Mastered
Acquire 11 werewolf perks

[MISSABLE]
In order to first become a Werewolf, you must have acquired it by completing the quest titled "The Silver Hand" for the Companions. If you chose to cure yourself of Lycanthropy at the end of the Companions questline, you can talk to Aela the Huntress once at any point once you have installed Dawnguard to get it back. If you are a Vampire Lord already, becoming a Werewolf will "cure" you of it at the expense of Lycanthropy. This trophy is technically missable since you can become a Vampire Lord as many times as you like (which will cancel out your Lycanthropy) but you can only become a Werewolf again once.

In order to acquire Werewolf perks you must first be in Beast Form. This is enabled by going to your Magic menu and finding "Beast Form" under the Powers tab. Activate it just like you would a normal Shout by pressing . This transforms you into a Werewolf for 2mins 30secs, with 30 seconds added on for every enemy you kill and then feed on, which you can do ad infinitum until you stop feeding. Note: You can only activate Beast Form once a day, which is why it will come in especially handy to have completed the Daedric Quest "Ill Met By Moonlight" and obtained the Ring of Hircine, which allows you unlimited transformations into Beast Form as long as you are already Lycanthropic.

Once you are in Beast Form you can attack enemies with and to kill them. When you do, you have the option to feed on them by pressing on their corpse. If you feed on a human, you will get a message saying "Heart consumed: Werewolf perk progress increased". You will have to feed on an increasing number of corpses to unlock each subsequent perk. It is highly recommended that you activate the "Savage Feeding" perk as quickly as possible (the earliest this is available is once you unlock your fourth perk, which is 31 feedings) as this allows you to feed on all corpses except for undead enemies (skeletons, Draugr and Vampires) instead of just humans. Another helpful trick is to cast Soul Trap on a corpse that you have already fed on once you revert back to your normal form. For some bizarre and unknown reason this also counts towards perk progress.

This trophy will require a fair amount of grinding. The quickest way to earn this trophy, providing you don't care about bounties and who you kill, is to travel between the major cities and kill/feed on as many people in the cities as you can. There are usually a lot of guards to be found, as well as many of the citizens. Only a few are unkillable and will kneel down when you attack them rather than dying. If you don't feel like wiping out whole cities, then the best way to get kills is to travel to the various Imperial/Stormcloak, Bandit and Giant Camps dotted around the map as there are usually plenty of enemies to kill in these.

Bounty V has provided an excellent explanation for farming kills:

Quote:

This is particularly helpful for places such as Forts, or tombs that held mostly human enemies. Once you have the Savage perk, the city of Mzulft (the huge cavern city that houses Falmer) is a great place to wrack up perk progress. If you're concerned about surviving - just clear it as a human(oid) then go back through feeding.
To view your perk tree, press whilst in Beast Form and unlock perks with the button. Once you unlock all 11 of the following perks (which requires a total of 164 feedings), this trophy will pop:
  • Animal Vigor
  • Bestial Strength (all 4 levels)
  • Gorging
  • Savage Feeding
  • Totem of Ice Brothers
  • Totem of Terror
  • Totem of the Moon
  • Totem of the Predator
Vampire Mastered
Acquire 11 vampire perks

To acquire the ability to transform into a Vampire Lord, you must accept Harkon's Gift at the end of the quest "Bloodline" or accept the gift of Vampirism from Serana at any point after completing the main Dawnguard questline.

To gain Vampire Lord perks, you must first be in Vampire Lord form. This is again selected in the "Powers" tab of the Magic menu and then activated with . Unlike Beast Form, you can change to and from your Vampire Lord form as often as you like. There are two different combat modes in your Vampire form, both of which allow you to obtain perks by consuming the life blood of your foes. Firstly, there is Blood Magic mode, allowing you to cast spells whilst hovering above the ground. Of these spells, only killing enemies with Drain Life (used with ) will contribute towards perk progress. In Melee mode you no longer hover but run on the ground like normal. You can no longer use magic, only your fists. To consume an enemy's life blood, you must hold to do a power attack bite, which will kill an enemy outright if they have low enough health. This can be a bit hit-and-miss though so it is recommended to use the Drain Life spell when you can, provided you have enough Magicka.

As with Werewolf perk progress, this trophy will take some grinding. However, farming kills for Vampire Lord is made easier by the fact that all enemies and animals count towards perk progress from the beginning. For tips on the best way to farm kills, see the tips provided in the Werewolf Mastered trophy description.

To view your Vampire Lord perk tree, press the button whilst in Vampire Lord form and press to select perks. In total, you will need to consume the life blood of 156 enemies to unlock all of the following 11 perks:
  • Blood Healing
  • Corpse Curse
  • Detect All Creatures
  • Mist Form
  • Night Cloak
  • Poison Talons
  • Power of the Grave
  • Summon Gargoyle
  • Supernatural Reflexes
  • Unearthly Will
  • Vampiric Grip
A New You
Change your face

New to Dawnguard is the ability to change the physical appearance of your character. To do this, visit The Ragged Flagon in Riften and find a Wood Elf named Galathil who is a hooded figure sitting on a bench. You can either do this of your own accord or by talking to guards in the various cities, who will occasionally mention her and give you a quest marker to her location. Note: You do not need to be a member of the Thieves Guild to enter and talk to her.

Galathil will offer you the chance to change your appearance for 1000 Gold. You do not even have to change anything about your appearance for this trophy to unlock, but you must still pay her and then back out. Finally, she will not change your face if you have contracted Vampirism from enemies in the main game or are a Vampire Lord from the Dawnguard main questline. You must first cure your Vampirism before you can change your face.

If you don't want to waste the 1000 Gold for the sake of the trophy, make a save first, then pay Galathil to change your appearance and unlock the trophy before loading your old save again. Thanks to Terminator for the tip.

Legend
Defeat a Legendary Dragon

New to the Dawnguard expansion is the Legendary Dragon type. These Dragons are extremely powerful therefore require you to be a very high level to make them appear. There is no definitive answer to when they start spawning, but the most commonly accepted level is 78. Therefore, depending on what level you start the DLC at, this trophy can be extremely time-consuming.

Once you are a high enough level, these dragons will randomly spawn as you are travelling around Skyrim. Travelling to the Dragon Lairs around the map (the locations in the mountains where a Word Wall can be found, guarded by a dragon) didn't seem to work for me as even at level 81 they were always Elder or Ancient Dragons. However, during my playthrough of Dawnguard, both random Dragon encounters I faced around the map were Legendaries. My first was just outside Riften when I fast-travelled there and walked out the entrance onto the main road, and the second was in the College of Winterhold courtyard. Once one spawns simply use your usual tactics to take it down, with a more watchful eye on your health as his attacks (even on Novice) can deplete your health quickly. Once he is defeated this trophy will unlock.

If you are struggling to find a Legendary Dragon, apparently there is a place where they are guaranteed to spawn. Go to Archwind Point, west of Autumnwatch Tower and south of Ivarstead and there should be a dragon there. Thanks to darkdante14 for this tip, and to BlueUltraNova for the video of this location below:

Oghma Infinium Exploit

If you are already at level 78 or above, then this trophy shouldn't take you long. However, if you are much lower than that, then you face a tough task ahead of you, as to attain such a high level you will need almost all of your individual skills to be maxed at level 100. Luckily, there is a way to quickly boost to level 81 using the Oghma Infinium exploit. This requires you to have completed the Daedric quest "Discerning the Transmundane", which requires you to be at least level 15. Upon completion of this quest (a walkthrough can be found here), you will earn the Oghma Infinium as a reward. This is a book which upon reading will boost 6 skills of a certain type by 5 levels.

Now, once you have this book, do not read it yet. You will need to find a bookshelf, such as the one located in the living room of Breezehome. Once you find one, follow these steps to reach level 81 in no time (thanks to the Elder Scrolls Wiki):

1. Activate the bookshelf with .
2. Read the book while still in the bookshelf inventory and choose the desired skillset.
3. Close the book after having chosen the path, then place the book on the bookshelf without exiting the bookshelf inventory between reading the chosen path and placing the book on the shelf.
4. Now exit the bookshelf inventory; the book should appear on the bookshelf.
5. Activate the book directly by hovering the cursor over it, not through the bookshelf inventory. Choose the "do not read" option then take the book from the shelf.
6. This can be repeated as many times as desired to get all skills to 100.

If you wish to see a video walkthrough of this method, see this video by trendKiLLv01:

It is highly advisable to save very often when you do this (such as every 3 readings of the book) as it is very easy to make a mistake and if you do so the book is lost forever, as are your chances of speedy levelling. The 1.9 "Legendary" patch has permanently patched this exploit, so the only way to use it is to decline the 1.9 patch and do the glitch on the previous patch. If you have installed the 1.9 patch and saved your game, the only option available to you is to delete the game data from your PS3 and start a new game with no patches installed. Note: Deleting your patch and trying to do this on the same save file will not work since the save files are patched too, thus rendering it unplayable until you install the patch version/number it was last saved on. Therefore, you will have to start a new character from scratch and play offline. Once you have reached max level, you can then patch your game and find a Legendary dragon. Furthermore if you delete the patch and start a new game without it, any and all DLC you have installed will be unplayable until the latest patch is reinstalled.

In addition to this if you have already used the book on your main playthrough, then this method will not be available to you. If so (depending on how many levels you need to reach the minimum required level to spawn a Legendary dragon) it may be quicker to start a new game and use this method to quickly get that character to level 81. Bear in mind that this will take around 6-8 hours as you will need to get to level 15, then complete "Discerning the Transmundane" before you have access to the book.

If you are pretty close to level 78 already or do not feel like using an exploit to "cheaply" level up, then the following tips for the Skill Master trophy from Webb's trophy guide are still extremely useful:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Trophy Guide and Road Map.

Guide fully uploaded.

As always, feel free to leave comments/feedback/constructive criticism.

Sorry for the delay in uploading, but I've been really busy with real-life stuff the last couple of days and didn't have a chance. I'll do an editorial sweep either after the Far Cry 3 game night or in the morning and then submit this.

2. Read the book while still in the bookshelf inventory and choose the desired skillset.
Maybe word it like this

Read the book while in the bookshelf menu, from your inventory under books

Text version (expanded steps)
  1. Activate bookshelf
  2. Read book from your inventory or
  3. Pick a path
  4. close book
  5. store book
  6. Exit menu , at least this works for me
  7. Activate book via Read, do not activate bookshelf
  8. Select (do not read)
  9. Select Take

This is a walkthrough for the specific trophies, not for the whole DLC, sorry Just use the Elder Scrolls Wiki, it's amazing for everything

Well I played as a warrior character and basically put all my levelling into Stamina and Health as I never use Magic, so I found myself running out after 10 or so Drain Life spells.

No worries, you deserve it. However, I tried to make sense of your method and it confused me. The wiki version I posted is how I did it, but maybe it's changed with the different patches? Either way, the video is there to clarify if needs be. Hopefully people make saves in case they mess it up
