So the information around these trophies is very loose and some people don't seem to understand what's up with them so I figured I'd make a post explaining how to obtain them in a straight forward manner.

Both trophies require you to speak to that character each time you meet them at specific areas and exhaust their dialogue options, and also require you to have summoned them into 3 boss fights and ensure that they survive until after the boss has been killed. Then you have to return to their very last location where they can be spoken to, and they will part with their equipment and bestow you those lovely trophies. Both characters have different locations and summon locations.

DIALOGUE LOCATIONS

Benhart:

  • Majula (before un-petrifying Rosalith)
  • Majula (After un-petrifying Rosalith)
  • Drangleic Castle (Central Castle Drangleic bonfire, after double dragonrider)
  • Forest of Fallen Giants (Behind Pursuer boss area)
  • Memory of Orro (Resting giant behind Pursuer boss area, speak to him here after 3 fights to obtain gear/trophy)

Lucatiel:

  • No Man's Wharf (Unseen Path to Heide bonfire)
  • The Lost Bastille (Inside tower shortly after The Tower Apart bonfire, accessed after Pursuer fight)
  • Earthen Peak (Lower Earthen Peak bonfire)
  • Black Gulch (Below Black Gulch Mouth bonfire, hard to access, will add pictures if people have trouble finding)
  • Aldia's Keep (Foregarden bonfire, speak to her here after 3 fights to obtain gear/trophy) (According to Velius, Do NOT speak to her here if you haven't already done everything else)

SUMMONING LOCATIONS

Benhart:

  • Prowling Magus boss (Sign in a tent near Royal Army Encampment Bonfire)
  • Looking Glass Knight boss (Sign to the left of fog door)
  • The Giant Lord boss (Sign in the Memory of Jeigh, next to the crumbled staircase right upon entering, possibly only after exhausting every dialogue option so far)
  • Throne Protectors (Sign right outside the fog door)

Lucatiel:

  • Flexile Sentry Boss (Sign in the shortcut house mid-way through no-mans wharf)
  • Lost Sinner Boss (Sign at the bottom of elevator before the boss)
  • Smelter Demon Boss (Sign right outside fog door)
  • The Rotten Boss (Black Gulch bonfire "Hidden Chamber", sign is near the bonfire, possibly only after conversing with Lucatiel in black gulch)

To obtain these two trophies, you must speak to the respective NPC in EVERY location, and have them survive through THREE fights. This means they must be alive at the end of the fight to get credit from them. It is definitely three, because for Lucatiel I skipped Smelter Demon and got the armor from her in Aldia Keep anyway, and I never even stepped foot in the Throne Watchers with Benhart and got his armor set after killing the Giant Lord.

For an easy guide, I'll simply list what order I personally made to get both achievements in a single playthrough;

Ez Guides;

Lucatiel:

Speak to her in No-Man's Wharf. Summon her and kill Flexile Sentry. Talk to her in Lost Bastille. Summon her to kill Lost Sinner. Talk to her in Earthen Keep. Talk to her in Black Gulch. Summon her for The Rotten. Speak to her in Aldia's Keep, TROPHY GET.

Benhart:

Speak to him in Majula before using branch on Rosalith, Speak to him AFTER using branch on Rosalith, Summon him for Prowling Magus fight, Talk to him in Drangleic Castle, Summon him for Looking Glass Knight. Talk to him outside Memory of Orro, Speak to him inside Memory of Orro (then finish that memory). Summon him for The Giant Lord. Return to Memory of Orro and speak, TROPHY GET.

If you fail a boss fight, you can re-attempt that boss with the summon by burning an Ascetic at a bonfire. For example if you accidentally killed Flexile Sentry already without summoning Lucatiel, you could use a bonfire ascetic to reset the boss for that area, and allow you to resummon Lucatiel to get credit for that boss. WARNING; This will set the difficulty of that area to NG+, make sure you're strong enough to take that on.

As a side note, Making these guys stay alive as phantoms through a boss fight is phenomenally easy for every fight but smelter demon. I used a strength tank build, using a broadsword+10, un-upgraded Drangleic Shield and whatever most protective armor I could get without going into fat roll. Then the most vital piece of equipment is the amazing Redeye Ring.

http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/file/view/redeye%20ring.png/495973796/redeye%20ring.png

You can purchase this ring from Sweet Shalquoir (The cat in Majula) for next to nothing. Although the ring's description is slightly ambiguous, it actually works as a giant taunt. Enemies will FOCUS you. It's amazing not only for tanking as a sunbro, but also for ensuring that your npc summons WILL NOT die, as the bosses will be focusing you with a seriously angerous intent. As mentioned this works perfect for Sun-broing, I was tanking the Ruin Sentinels for people all last night and the bosses barely ever switch target.

This makes every boss do-able with NPC summons, all but Smelter Demon. His AOE damage kills Lucatiel fast enough, unless you can out damage him, but on top of this he seemed to be the only boss that would actually ignore my ring and periodically go straight for Lucatiel (hence why I left him out.)

Apologies for the bad formatting, I'm not good at this stuff, but I hope it will serve some people use.

EDIT: Added a bad quality video showing how to find Lucatiel in Black Gulch, if anyone can record a better quality video feel free to;

Ok so I just messed up and she literally died as I landed the killing blow to smelter demon. I missed her sign for the ship. So what are my options? Must I use Ascetics on BOTH iron keep and No Man's Wharf if I want to be the boss in No Man's Wharf with her? Do I need to do it in Iron Keep since she died there? Should I wait until Aldia's Keep to see if she is alive before I use Ascetics on Iron Keep?

NOTE: Her sign is still available when I go to fight the pursuer, I can summon her but she leave as soon as I enter the fog gate. So not sure if I need to use Ascetics on Iron Keep so she is "alive" or not.

You need to have finished at least 3 of the 4 fights, if you've not used Lucatiel at No Man's, and also accidentally killed Smelter without, you can still get away with just using an Ascetic on a single one, as long as you've done the other two, if I'm not mistaken.

That sounds weird, as far as I'm aware her dieing in phantom shouldn't affect anything for any other fights. I did a few attempts on the Smelter with her and she died multiple times but that didn't impede my ability to summon her in The Gutter.

This mini guide could be good but there is just not enough info.

1) You missed info what to do if You loose 2-3 out of 4 fights and did not provide a solution

2) You fialed to warn players to NOT TALK to Lucatiel in Aida's if they did not fulfill the quest yet

3) You did not mention about Ascetics

what this guy said. Just to clarify ascetic use. You can kill one boss 3 times by using ascetics and get trophy too. or if somehow you killed boss without NPC or you forgot to summon, you can use ascetic to redo the fight

What if they died during the fight, you finished the fight, but you completed the other 3, but after they died?

Hope you followed that.

I want to do a different boss and not smelter again as it was hard enough on NG to keep her alive, no way could I do it on NG+.

I burn astetic with the Flex.Sentry boss is too harcode I always keep getting kill...how I defeat this boss.. before was 1but now is 3. Wtf

Seriously that sucks. If your fighting that boss in the ship, its too cramped. With 3 its practically suicide. I think the key to this boss spacing (range) and stability. I have a mage/knight build, my magic attacks does serious damage to this guy. (don't know resistances).

I lost her at "Lost Sinner" boss, she survived "Flexile Sentry", I talked to her at Lost Bastille. I only saw a summon stone once when going down the elevator, then I managed to kill the "Lost Sinner" solo.

Then I saw this thread and I backed up my save to PSplus and used the Acetic fire before "Lost Sinner" but still no summon sign at the bottom, even tried using Ascetic fire at McDuff's workshop but she hadn't respawned in the tower.

Edit: This guide says you have to be in Human form to get Lucatiel summon sign. Will try it tomorrow.

xIMidge, thanks a lot for this guide :)

Im currently on NG+, i find those two on all locations in first playthrough, but i didnt summoned them in boss fights, no chance to "ruin" my first playthrough and boss fights in this amazing game with coop :)

I will focus on them in NG+ and is good to have all in one place, in chase i accedantly miss something (or forget).

Guys, I was so foolish, I killed benhart (should have netted me with the trophy since I got his sword, seems to have dissappeared now though, strangely. XD) Anyway, is my best bet to finish everything else in my first run with bonfire asthetics and do benhart in NG+?

Advice welcomed.

i got both trophies. it's pretty much like this:

advance both storylines by talking to both npcs in the locations they spawn in order, see guide. lucatiel will be in aldia's keep and bernhart in memory of orro at the end. before talking to them in those locations make sure to have defeated 3 bosses each with their help and keep them alive. it does not matter which bosses (although it's only 4 possible for each) or in which order or if NG+ etc. you can use bonfire ascetics and fight the same boss again if you so wish. be advised their summon signs only appear when they have moved on from that location in their story. i was always human btw. also boss kills carry over to NG+ etc.

when done correctly talk to them and receive their gear and get the trophies. can be done in one playthrough with proper planning.

some tips:

you can use the red eye ring to make the boss focus on you.

avoid smelter demon fight and tower watcher/nashandra fight. they are hard.

try to summon online players for help. the more the better.

if you see them die, quit to xmb and reload. RISKY FOR YOUR SAVE THO. but works.

Benhart doesn't give me his sword. But I think I did everything right.

- Spoke to him in every location except the Memory of Orro (didn't reach the speaking dragon at that time).

- used ascetic bonfire to beat the Magus, the Glass Knight and the Throne Guards with him (survived every fight but the Guards. Died once, so I let the guards kill me to retry).

Spoke to him in the memory of Orro, nothing.

Completed the memory retrieving the Giant soul. Re-entered the memory, still nothing.

I'm really confused since I know I've done everything right. Maybe I have to beat EVERY memory (2 out of 3 atm)?

so you beat 3 bosses with him surviving, right? not only 2?

also try and beat the giant lord in the last memory with him.

Yes I'm at work atm but I'm counting to do the last memery, check if he gives me the sword, then if not I'm going to use an ascetic bonfire and beat the Giant Lord with him.

I'll let you know guys.

they should never have put this crap in, there is 0 fun in escort missions in games, they are the absolute disease of the gaming world.

Im writing off the plat over this crap.

You may have 'it easy' with your 500 str build, i have a DEX build and i deal 100ish damage, npcs die in 30/60seconds and i cant kil the boss fast enough, not even on the first playthrough.

My first character was a dual wield dex build, gotta admit it feels underwhelming compared to the strength build that i ran on my second character to chase trophies.

Although my damage in the dex build shot up as soon as I bought the Warped Sword from Straid using the soul of Flexile Sentry, and upgrading it to +4 (takes a lot of petrified dragon bones).

Also don't bother infusing poison or bleed unless you plan to pvp, it seemed practically useless on bosses to me.

And still i refuse to stray from dex, even though the makers of this game made it a completely fucking useless build.. I just killed the pursuer at the smelter location, only gave me a ring.

I took around half a hour to kill him, but i can now do it blind if i need to.

Really great man, if you only do inbetween 100 and 200 damage and see other people just brush off everything and hit bosses for 1k minimum and above.

So reassuring! so fair!

So incredibly F U N.
