Superspy Can Be A Pain...

So, got the Superspy trophy (finish a mission without being seen) tonight after spending a good chunk of time working on it. While not hard in theory, the problem with this is you never know what the level generator is going to throw at you, especially in the last room before the control panel.

If everything goes well, you'll be in and out in under 10 minutes. Getting it to go well, that's a different story. I can't count the number of times I got the last room with 5-7 guys all looking in my general direction. Try not being seen then, sigh...

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there that if you're having trouble with it just keep at it and eventually the game will spit out a level that you can work with. I'd personally suggest trying this on your very first mission, using the Socialist option. I found their level layouts seemed to be a bit easier than the Imperialist ones, and you want to get it out of the way early, since the further into the game you go, the harder the levels get.

If you get seen or the level just sucks at the end, exit and restart. Sooner or later you'll get it.

The level generation is random, so they're not the same each time you play. They're made up of a set number of pieces though, so after a while you recognize the rooms and know what to do there. The trophy is tough just because it's tough to get through the levels without being seen, but sooner or later you'll get it.

Very fun game.

The game is AWFUL. It's horribly designed in every way. Play Mark of the Ninja and you'll never be able to go back to playing this game once you see what a REAL stealth game plays like

Well, Mark of the Ninja looks like a fun game, but unfortunately it's not available on PlayStation so unless you're an XBox or PC gamer you're out of luck, and this is a PlayStation game forum after all...

I guess the rest of us will just have to suffer through Counterspy, which I personally think is a very fun game. Sorry you don't agree.

I highly recommend going for Super Spy after you've finished a campaign run on Normal. By then you should have the Persuader Dart which is hugely helpful to completing a stealth run. Using the Silent Runner Formula is helpful too. As soon as you can afford that weapon on a new campaign, buy it and keep restarting a level until you get it.

The problem is you can often come to a room, frequently the final room, where it's impossible to stealth past, which is where the Persuader comes in handy. Shoot someone, he thins the herd, then kill him. I can confirm that even if others in the room use the radio and raise the Defcon, if you were never seen you will get the Trophy.

You can grind for blueprints and formulas and restart the campaign without losing them.

I saw Mark of the Ninja mentioned. No, this game isn't as good as that, however it's also not trying to be the same game. On Ninja you can play 100% stealth, while in CS you can stealth a room here and there but you're expected to get into firefights during a level.

I just got the trophy after about 3 hours of trying lol.

I did it on a new game(+) - first level....i.e just the normal C.O.U.N.T.E.R pistol and the Diplomatic pistol , and just waited for the right levels to appear.

This is a prime example of why I dislike random and 'procedurally generated' levels....the latest buzzword fad in Indie gaming. Normally you'd be able to work out a strategy, look for enemy patterns etc...as in 'practice makes perfect', but here is where it so much reverts to luck as opposed to pure skill.

:/

Yeah, it can be a pain, like swotam said, it can take a while for the game to throw you a "easier" layout, but it will happen.

Other than that, I think this game is awesome and a lot of fun. Actually, I expected it to be good and planned to buy just from the trailer I saw a few weeks ago and Dynamighty haven't let me down. I think the stealth is good and now that I'm getting a few other weapons, firefights are cool fun too. Don't understand people bellyaching about this game at all, but each to their own I suppose.

I think people might be frustrated at the trophy, rather than the game itself, and how a task such as getting a 'clean run' is made all the more difficult when using random levels, guard type and camera placement.

The game rocks, looks beautiful and is as tough as old boots on the harder difficulties, but this trophy might be better suited(and fairer) to a game with non-random design elements in my humble opinion.

As a note to the attainment of this trophy, every kill you make needs to have the words 'Stealth Kill' appear in the top right of the screen....and the total should remain cumulative until the mission is completed. It is possible to assume you've made a perfectly fine stealth kill, but in some instances the guard may have briefly seen you before the kill - in which case you'll hear a slightly different noise/sound fx upon killing and the word 'Stealth' won't appear....meaning you'll have to restart the mission again.

Also, remember that if a guard has a '?' above their head, in theory it means that they have only heard you and not seen you. However, you'll soon be informed if they have seen you when you try to enter adjoining rooms and you get the warning message appear that you're trying to leave an area with alerted guards still remaining.

What he said.

Oh, there's a couple of people writing the game off as total crap pretty much, I was more referring to that, but, they're entitled to appraise the game how they see fit. I think maybe they expected to breeze through and 100% it in a few hours and maybe ran into trouble, then shit-canned the game. Could be wrong though. I still say it's an all round awesome little game. Great graphics, great music, cool settings, don't understand why it's getting hate. I'm playing on Vita by the way. Gonna 100% it on PS4 too sometime.

Yeah, I got the Super Spy trophy about 8 hrs ago and, like you, I noticed the Stealth Kill multiplier disappears as soon as you get spotted. So, you need to maintain that multiplier right through the entire level and if it ever resets during the mission, that means quitting and trying again.

I can't believe how well the game translates to and plays on the Vita!

Only played a couple of missions so far on the handheld, but it looks every bit as good. I agree that the music is also wicked - right up my street. :)

I haven't checked the reviews yet, but it's a shame if anyone is marking it unfairly. One of the most addictive games I've played in a while!

Yeah, it's called a "gimmick", which is what most indie games rely on to get noticed, or an artsy presentation. Both of which you see in Counterspy, as opposed to well crafted, QUALITY game design.

Counterspy represents everything that is wrong with most indie games. All style and gimmicks rather than substance (i.e. well designed gameplay)

I have a different view.

It's unreasonable to expect every game released to sweep aside all that have gone before with all manner of innovative, ground breaking awesomeness. Were you expecting something "TLoUesque" epic from a $12 platform stealth/shooter? It's not possible with the volume of games released these days for every game to be full of unique content, especially when they're made on a shoestring budget like indie games are. It's not surprising to see indie devs use "artsy" presentation, in fact it's obvious that they would, in order to gain a competitive edge in a world of big budget blockbusters, and I think Dynamighty did a good job of that here. That's smart, in my opinion, and shows talent in at least that area of expertise.

I disagree that the game lacks in design and substance. Placing the player between the Imperialist and Socialist sides, rather than repeating the tired "western superhero saves the whole universe" theme was great. The Defcon mechanic was very apt, creative and effective, rewarding skilful play and punishing careless. The environment designs and art themes were well done and the music was perfectly executed, setting the tone and following the games theme to a tee. The tongue in cheek jabs at the political ideologies of the opposing sides shown in the propaganda posters and the collectible dossiers was very good. The variety represented in the weapons and formulas was broad and useful, yet didn't nerf the challenge too much. The variety of enemy types was good too, although [spoiler=abc]maybe a "boss" type enemy to take on at the end would've been good

. I didn't find the stealth mechanics flawed or broken and apart from a couple of glitchy moments in 12-13hrs of play, which is certainly forgivable, all my failures were down to my own mistakes, I couldn't blame the game.

I think Dynamighty did a great job with this little game and it's well worth playing. :)

I have a different view.

Best to ignore Arkham258, he's posted in several threads now about how terrible he thinks the game is because it isn't Mark of the Ninja, a game you can't even get on Playstation.

He's obviously got some sort of bug up his ass about Counterspy, not sure what his issue is, but he's obviously got one.

Just got my 100% on PS4 and I have no complaints. The game was a lot of fun, looks great, and a few minor issues aside it was well worth what I paid.

Yeah, don't worry, I'm not trying to argue, just putting across my appraisal and actually providing something to substantiate it, rather than just "this game's great! Buy it!"

I agree, there's a few little things here and there, but if you look at it as a whole, it's a really good and fun little game.

Congratulations on the PS4 completion, I'm working on that right now.

Just got this trophy on my first attempt at getting it. Definitely got lucky on a good layout. Only had 5 or 6 rooms. 2 of which either had nobody in it or just 1 guy patrolling. Was concerned about the final room where they usually put a handful of guys in but got lucky because all the guys were in the background and none where in the foreground on my level. So it was just a matter of sneaking past at the right time.

Only trophies i need now are kill 5 people with 1 explosive and to beat the game on expert.

Ironically i find the game to be harder in the beginning when you don't have much money and don't have access to good guns and formulas.

Once money is no longer an issue i roll with the diplomatic pistol, the pistol that converts enemies and the assault rifle for when i find myself in a jam. Never bothered to use any other guns even though i have them all unlocked. And formulas i always bring are endurance, precision aim and i go back and forth between persuasion, or signal jammer IIRC (the one where defcon doesn't raise as fast when they radio) with persuasion being the priority if my starting defcon level is 3 or above.

I find with this setup it's pretty easy to steamroll most levels if your not completely careless. Make your way through using the silenced pistol. No camera is an issue if you have precision aim. If there are a handful of guys that are on the same plane, find the one with a machine gun and convert him and hope that he isn't gunned down before he can do your dirty work for you. and break out the assault rifle when things get sticky. Hard to go wrong unless you're just super reckless

Sounds like a good loadout. The only change I would make would be to swap the pistol for the Hushmaker Rifle. It's also silenced but does more damage against the armored enemies on the harder difficulties. It also has a larger clip capacity. Of course, if you have an extra weapon slot you could always use both.

Do you happen to know what direction aim does in the settings? I feel like i've tried it with it both on and off and didn't notice a difference

I tried using it and all it did was make aiming harder IMO. Not entirely sure what the purpose of that setting is, but I turned it off pretty quick.

I gave up on this trophy. The randomness, cheap A.I., general design flaws, and bad luck with stage set up made me throw in the towel on this one.

Really? It's not that bad. Obviously, an early level on normal difficulty will provide the best chance and you'll need the Diplomatic Pistol.

The Silent Runner formula really helps widen the margin for error and use Precision Aim to take out regular guards with helmets in one shot.

Avoid as many enemies as possible, you don't have to kill them all, just make sure they're not alerted or your Defcon will go up when you leave the room. You could try reloading until you get a map with one or two elevator rooms, since you can just walk straight by and not even bother with them. That really reduces the number of enemies you'll face and therefore your chances of being spotted.

Then it's just a matter of dealing with the final room which admittedly can be a pain, but there's a couple of ways to make it a little easier. Obviously, head straight for cover as soon as you enter the room. Take out the guards who can't be seen by others first to reduce the numbers. Where possible, line up your shots in advance, then pop out and instantly headshot the guard then immediately go back into cover. Provided the whole bunch aren't already actively looking for you, you shouldn't get spotted. Hope that helps.

Believe me, I've tried all those strategies. It's just that nothing worked for me. With all of the complications involved, odds are PSNProfiles.com will eventually list this as an ultra rare trophy. Anyone who got this was either insanely lucky or it was hacked. Not saying anyone here hacked it of course, just saying that given the game's set up and flaws getting this honestly is about as easy as hitting the lottery.
