Introduction:

Comix Zone is a hard game.

Comix Zone is a side scrolling beat em up title which takes place literally within a comic book. As Sketch Turner you must battle through your own creation whilst the demon artist continues to draw enemies for you to face.

6 Stages broken up into 3 episodes with 2 different endings depending on your performance. A game ahead of it's time which just didn't get the love it deserved.

Road Map:

Step 1: Start the game... Try to beat it.

Every trophy is more or less ‘story driven’ everything will unlock as you progress, due to the way the game works there is only 1 trophy that you can miss.

Depending how your final battle goes you will need to re-load the game in order to unlock both Complete the game & Choice is good

With regards to the various Points trophies, you cannot see your score until you beat an episode. But due to the way the game works, so long as you get through to the final boss you should have more than enough to claim all 3 of these trophies, as the game has alternative paths theres only aproximations that can be made as to when you unlock the said trophies. If you beat the game, you'll definately unlock the final points trophy.

There is a 'Save State' feature which will come in VERY handy. I would advise to use it at the start of every new level and then create a new seperate save at the start of every boss. The stages are quite short once you get to know them, but doing save states like this will allow you to re-try a boss quickly and if you give up you can attempt the stage again and get back to it without having to replay too much of the game.

One final note: Items DO NOT carry over into a new episdoe (this includes Roadkill the Rat), always use offensive items when you face a boss.

Your inventory will always be cleared after every boss fight regardless as to what you have in it.

Step 2: Clean up

If you’ve not done it already, now is the time to get 3rd Grade. Also either play through the game again to get your other game ending, or alternatively, re-load a save state to get the alternative ending and your Complete the Game/ Choice is Good trophy (this will depend on what ending you first got).

Trophy Guide:

Rescue Alissa and complete the game

The title is somewhat misleading, it’s the description where the key rule is. You must get the ‘good ending’ in order to unlock this. To get the good ending you have to.

• Beat the final boss before Alissa drowns.

• Kill any of those flying enemies still alive before Alissa drowns (the boss almost always spawns one when he dies).

• Activate the switch which appears next to Alissa once the boss and the last flying enemy is dead... before Alissa drowns.

Do that and the trophy is yours.

Note: If you're having trouble defeating him in time, go to the very bottom level (and stand between the rocket boosters unfinished rocket booster and the switch. When the boss drops down, jump on the platform with the switch and use it, it will damage the boss and take a lot of health from him. you might be able to repeatedly do this so long as he doesn't teleport away. If he does vanish, jump to another platform, when he drops down head back to the bottom platform and wait for him to follow you. It should only take 5 rocket blasts to defeat him. Thanks to Kyorml007 for that one.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/02.jpg (G) Choice is Good

Recieve both endings

When you reach the final boss. (It’s an area that is a large nuclear missile, half of the page hasn’t been ‘finished’ yet). A cut scene will kick in and Alissa will be captured and locked in a tank that’s slowly being filled with water.

At this point make a new save state, then beat the boss.

If you did it in time (see Complete the Game) or fail to save Alissa, watch the ending and wait until the credits finish and you’re taken back to the main menu.

Then re-load the save state you made, if you saved Alissa previously, allow her to die (just beat the boss and then leave the last flying enemy until she drowns.) Or beat the boss quickly and save the girl.

Trophy should unlock at some point during the ending sequence/credits.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/03.jpg (S) Points III

Score 50,000 points

Due to the way this game works, this trophy is impossible to miss. It should unlock at some point during the dry sea bed or the final level (it depends on the path you take in the game.) But as far as I’m aware you cannot miss this trophy unless you lose all your lives and get a game over.

Just play through the game up until the final level and it should unlock.

Note: There are points in the game where the game will spawn unlimited enemies until you complete a puzzle or pass through a specific point... Do not waste your time with this, it's not known if these enemies count to your score and given how weak these enemies are, you could be waiting hours trying this if you attempt to get this trophy by that method.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/04.jpg (B) 3rd Grade

Use a paper airplane

This trophy is missable. It’s best to do this the moment you start the game. Simply hold down :square: (punch button). Sketch will begin to rip at his own comic and make a paper plane and then throw it. Be aware that this move will cause you to lose A LOT of energy so it’s best to avoid using it other than for this trophy. That’s why it’s best to do it immediately, you can then restart at full health.

Note: Do not turn on Rapid Fire when attempting this trophy. Thanks to luckyegg for pointing that one out.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/05.jpg (S) Points II

Score 30,000 points.

This should unlock towards the end of the Kung-Fu stage. See Points III for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/06.jpg (S) Accelerate Your Hero

Complete Episode 3

Beat the final boss and complete the game. Doesn’t matter what ending, just beat the boss and the trophy will pop once the ending sequence starts.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/07.jpg (B) Buddha Says

Complete Episode 2

Beat the Kung-Fu master (“Nice fingernails dude”) boss. If you are having problems beating him. Just use flying kicks and any items that are thrown, then retreat and repeat, he’s quite easy so long as you don’t rush in.

Note: If you are having trouble, try using low kicks, according to Webstar, the boss' low attack can't reach you when you use this move.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/08.jpg (B) Unknown Territory

Finish the first page.

Beat stage 1. You might want to make a save just prior to the last jump as you have to time it just right.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/09.jpg (B) Points 1

Beat Score 10,000 points.

This should unlock once you beat the first boss (the green alien thing that screams). See Points III for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/10.jpg (B) Orange Bull

Use the Iced Tea to restore your health.

The iced tea item looks like a bottle, simply select this item and drink it. This item can be found in the very first frame of the very first level.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/11.jpg (B) BOO-Ya!

Use the Dynamite.

Very similar to Orange Bull only this time we’re using the dynamite item. It looks literally like a few sticks of dynamite stuck together. This item can be found in the very first frame of the very first level.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/927/12.jpg (B) Rats!

Rescue and pick up Roadkill.

Roadkill is your pet rat who also got trapped in the comic. Once you pick him up the trophy will pop. The earliest opportunity to do this is in stage 1, it doesn't matter which route you take you take as you have to pick him up in order for the game to progress.

If anyone has any suggestions for things that I should add feel free to say.

u cant get 3th grade if rapid fire is on. i also highly suggest u dont put it on because i think u lose health while holding it

btw the rat is impossible to miss. if u go right u need to pick it up to fall down. if u go down the rat will stand on the thing u need to break to get down. the only way u can break it is to press down and square if u press down u will pick up rat tested it with second account

u also need the rat to progress in the story. to disable rotating thing in next level

edit: i just readed it again but just wanted to say its impossible to miss even if u go down instead of right

Okey doke I'll add that.

I wasn't sure about the rat if you went down, the last time I played the game was in full was back in 1999, also I seem to remember never going down at that point, can't remember why, not sure if it's a harder route or if it costs you more energy to do so.

i personally found the down route harder.

Can you add which routes to take to make it easier? :)

I'm not entirely sure how fesable it is to do that.

Theres no doubt that for me I find one way easier than the other (big one for me is that stage on episode 2 where you can either take a route where you have to break through the floorboards whilst the comic is on fire, or a route with more enemies, I avoid the fire route).

But when you take alternative routes, you also get different items and each route has various puzzles/challenges that you can aproach differently. All this influences the difficulty slightly, but depending on what items you use during the route and at the points where the path comes back together. Not to mention if you have roadkill, some paths dramatically change their difficulty.

Today I discovered for the first time that on episode 2 just before the bit where you have to push the rock over the pit that spawns those flying things, roadkill can locate for you dynamite, had I known that then I could have used it to destroy the other rocks instead of having to resort to shoulder barges... this would have made the bit when the comic is on fire much easier as I'd have more health for all the objects I have to break.

You should add that in first part of episode 3 in the vertical room where you start with a platform with a box at the top left side of the screen and a red lever on the lower platform to the right from it, after you clean up the area, instead of going to the right like normal, you can use Roadkill to find a good shortcut bypassing a pretty hard area.
