MrKrueak
the last 2 games i've played so far has been so under rated by the reviewers and alot of gamers themselves, last was enslaved and this time it is castlevania lord of shadows. I have to say since i finally finished my first playthrough this game was one of the best i've played in years, great puzzles, great combat, great story especially the ending. 5 out 5 stars from me. spawnvader
Definitely underrated - Started off a bit slow, but picked up really well. Hopefully the PSN store comes back soon so I can buy Reverie.....
Empyrean
Castlevania I think is by far the most underrated game I have played in this console gereation.
toastie
I think most people were just butt-hurt because it wasn't SoTN part II. Not that SoTN was revolutionary anyway -- basically Super Metroid with swords and light rpg elements. I'm not saying the game is bad, but I think it gets way too much credit for what it is. smartbomb
Agreed, this is probably the most underrated game on my list. Great game
Endo Takahashi
Hear Hear! I thought this game was pretty cool. I think it took elements from a lot of other good games (GOW, SoTC, etc) but put them together really well. Plus the stages were really beautiful. Well done! From what I heard somewhere that I can't remember or find anymore so don't blame me if it's completely false. Lords of Shadow was in it's early development a non-castlevania game and they decided to slap the Castlevania name on it. Probably had something to do with the Castlevania movie rumors I heard about when this game would have been in it's early stages. Without the Castlevania name this game would have just sunk into the quagmire that is the God of War clone pool and at best been forgotten. The Castlevania name helped it alot, it pulled it out of the gunk and let people play it that normally wouldn't have even touched it. I agree that this game gets more hate then it deserves but it does have it's flaws. I gladly and excitedly bought the DLC, but if I had it to do over again I'd skip it. If they made a sequel to this game I'd buy it. Overall yes the game is underrated.

Overall yes the game is underrated. what i heard actually is a bit different. this game was starting development when castlevania judgment was shown on the E3. so, in order to avoid dividing the hype between one game and the other, they just announced the title as "lords of shadow", unraleted to the castlevania saga. but since the begginig it was a castlevania game. now, other thing also is that from the very begginig, it was supposed to be a remake of the first castlevania, the one starring simon belmont... glad it didnt turn out that way. yeah, despite its flaws, i also think it deserved more praise than i had. EtherealSkye
This game has been sitting on my shelf for almost a year. I grew up with Castlevania and LoS is different, canon-wise everything is all jumbled up. Bad enough that Lament of Innocence changed the story of the Belmonts on PS2 and now LoS changed it AGAIN. Sure the graphics are good, the controls are not as annoying... I am playing this one again now and might as well get platinum for it since it's fairly easy. The storyline kinda ruined it for me but a game is a game. For new or first-time CV gamers, LoS is a gem. But for some of us who played the Castlevania series since forever... well.. thesilentmantis
But for some of us who played the Castlevania series since forever... well.. agreed. the castlevania franchise is immense, but the 3d castlevania games tend to kinda ruin what they have going on. as far as gameplay goes, its too loose in my opinion. if you want to make platforming a significant portion of the game, you have to make the controls really, near perfection tight. platforming elements have often suffered in 3d games. the titan graveyard was so infuriating lol. rita_g
Enslaved and Castlevania, same here. Both games are incredibly beautiful (and very much alike in the way the environment is always colorful and peaceful). LoS is my first Castlevania game and so far I'm really enjoying it. claonic
I liked Castlevania better than Enslaved.. Better graphics and atmosphere, voices, music etc.. Great game..
Auron
This game definitely surprised me. At first, I was very put off by it. Once I beat the first titan boss at the end of the first chapter, I was fed up. "Man, it's ripping off Shadow of the Colossus now? I need to take a break." I set it down for about half of a year, so many other games came out that I was focused on. I just picked it back up and I've been loving it. I just beat the lycan boss, so I'm only about of a quarter of the way through the game, but I think it's safe to say that I misjudged it.
dmsdq
I don't know. I think it gets hate that it shouldn't, but it is a bit of a sluggish grind at times. Sometimes I can only play it for an hour before just getting completely frustrated. I'm not saying that every game has to be easy, or that every game needs to fit a mold ... but something about the pacing in this game is just ... off. The first two chapters have like ten sections and then BAM! Two, three. Huh, whut?

I'm not saying that every game has to be easy, or that every game needs to fit a mold ... but something about the pacing in this game is just ... off. The first two chapters have like ten sections and then BAM! Two, three. Huh, whut? I do agree with the pacing. It is very jumpy about the amount of sections in a chapter. Although, I loved the boss battles most of all in this (I feel the same way about GoW). This meant that every time I saw a chapter was short, I was happy because I knew that I'd be fighting another boss sooner rather than later. dmsdq
Some of the bosses are great. =) It's the closest I've gotten to a Shadow of the Colossus sequel. xD If only they were as inspired as those fights.
StarGate55555
The game was good but I felt that it was very similar to a few other games. Like GOW the Blades of Athena vs. Cross with a chain
rotoninja
Many people seem to hate the game and many people seems to love it; not sure why there's such a huge gap. Will say at this point, it seems the asthetics (graphics, sound, etc) make the game more than compliment it.
Sunlit Garden
Some of the bosses are great. =) It's the closest I've gotten to a Shadow of the Colossus sequel. xD If only they were as inspired as those fights. It's been a few years since I played SotC, but I don't remember the camera or controls being a hindrance. In C:LoS, they are. I only got as far as the first titan and quit in frustration. I did not know this game had SotC-ripoff fights in it. I would rather just play SotC again instead. (And it's a pretty blatant ripoff, with the weak spots you have to pound in order.) I also felt motion sick from the constantly shaking camera =/ Edited August 5, 2012 by Sunlit Garden

kevnb
I got this game because it was on a good discount and it looked alright. I'm really enjoying it. I have heard a lot of bad things about the game and to my surprise, i'm finding very few things that I dislike about it. The camera is fine in my opinion, the only thing that does get a little cheesey is the character scripts. It is nothing like the original castlevania games though . I loved playing those when I was younger. I still think similar playstyle games like God of War are better, but this game is good.
PhunkSyndrome
this is what i love about games, absolutly everyone is different, lords of shadow is easily one of my favourite games, the cutscenes are jaw droppin, namely the vampire lord cutscene....wow!. now someone mentioned enslaved? i think its utter shite controls are all over the place, camera is wobbly at best, not for me but people love it. god of war is still better than both but thats another topic.........
