Introduction:

Cabela's Hunting Expeditions has more of an open world setting where you usually have more than just one hunting option at a time, aside from the vehicle sections, which are also rare in the series. The game also takes place in 3rd person view, as you take control of a sharp-tongued hunter who runs gingerly like an old man with a replacement hip. Apart from one or two trophies, this is not a challenging game to platinum, although the game does not tell you much about the gameplay so you have to figure most things out yourself. I have listed some extra tips below to act as an extended tutorial.

Road Map:

Step 1 - Career mode

Play through each of the hunts in the 12 levels of the Career mode. You should have netted nearly every trophy except for the quick hunt trophies and most likely Gold Rush, Far Far Away..., Fearless Hunter, Backbone, and possibly others. That's okay because nothing is missable and you can replay hunts as many times as you like to clean up any remaining trophies. I would however, recommend working towards Gold Rush right off the bat. See the first gameplay tip below and the trophy description for more details.

Step 2 - Quick Hunts

You'll have to select Quick Hunt from the main menu for the quick hunt trophies. See Quick Hunt Pro for details on how to obtain the 3 quick hunt trophies.

Step 3 - Cleanup

See the corresponding trophy for a description for any trophy you happen to be missing. Do your clean up in Career mode to ensure you are making progress towards Gold Rush if you haven't gotten it yet.

Gameplay tips not mentioned by the game:

- After your tutorial hunt is over and you start your second hunt, pause the game and scroll over to the right to view and take mental note of the medals you need for Gold Rush. Mix up your lung/spine/heart shots, be sure to mark some of your targets with the rangefinder, hold your breath when taking most of the shots and be sure to mix up the types of scopes you use.

- You can not hold your breath while using a shooting rest. When not using shooting rests, press and hold :l3: to hold your breath and steady your aim.

- Use the right analog stick to scroll up and down when viewing the map to see things hiding out of view.

- Bonus objectives are not required and only increase your score and the xp you earn, so you do not have to go completely out of your way to fulfill them.

- Using shooting rests does not add anything to your score unless they are listed as a bonus objective, they only help keep your aim steady.

- I only ran out of hunting time during the grizzly bear hunt because they kept killing me and there's a lot of ground to cover but other than that hunt, there's no need to try to conserve time by not using your hunter's sense.

- I would recommend upgrading your current gun with the initial GP you receive rather than saving up for a new gun until you have one upgrade of each kind and reach a hunt that recommends using a stronger gun.

- Never re-start a hunt, especially at the end of the level. The game will not autosave and you will lose all your progress. Always choose to return back to the hunt selection menu to activate the autosave.

- If you mess up a kill you can choose restart from last checkpoint from the pause menu. This will load the last auto-save, usually after tagging your last kill or after capturing your last flag in a vehicle section.

Hunt 5 Trophies from at least 200 yards away

The most difficult trophy in the game, but that's not saying much. Only the Zebra hunt has the open terrain required for you to get far enough away from the target without obstructions blocking your view to the kill. Make sure to bring the .300 rifle, upgraded with the 20x scope. Collect all of the vehicle flags and go to the hunt location. Run to your left until you are over 200 yards away (I like to run towards the lone bush across the river), kneel down, mark your target and aim for the chest of the zebra to ensure accuracy and a one shot kill. Claim your prize and move on to the next area. Once there, head straight towards the hilltop spotting location in front of you and activate it. Turn to the SW and activate hunter's sense to see a climbing section and run towards it. Climb up and take aim at the zebra from there. Claim your prize and use hunter sense again to view another pack of zebras just ahead to the NE. You should almost be in a perfect position. Mark a target and move back far enough to the 200 yard distance required, then kill and claim your prize. Kill the 4th zebra to end the level, and go back to the menu so it auto-saves. Rinse and repeat. The trophy will pop once you tag the 5th animal you've hunted from 200+ yards away. Note that if you restart the hunt, the game will not autosave and you will lose all your progress so be sure to go back to the career menu to activate the autosave.

Hunt 15 Trophies from a Shooting Rest

Shooting rests are marked on the map as yellow hunters in the prone position and are outlined in white when using Hunter's Sense. You will receive the trophy after your 15th kill using a shooting rest.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/76A.jpg Optimal Shot (B)

Shoot a Trophy from optimal distance

This trophy popped without any notice as to how I got it. My guess is that when you are in Strategic View, you should try to set up a shot that will give you a 'Gold score'. Usually the further away you are, the higher the points you'll get. Heart shots also get the most points.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/A34.jpg Gold Rush (B)

Obtain all the Gold medals

Obtaining all the Gold medals can be a grind but with some planning, you can cut the time down drastically. You need to add the amount for the silver medal to the amount for the gold medal to find the total amount you need to complete the task.

Here are the medals and a description of how to obtain them:

  • Prone - Shoot animals while being in prone position. 9 for silver/15 for gold. Kill 24 animals while using the shooting rests for this medal.

  • One shot - Hunt animals with one shot. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Kill 30 animals using only one bullet for this medal. Make sure to look at the animals' vitals using hunter's sense and aim for the spine, lungs or heart to ensure a one shot kill.

  • Lungs - Shoot animals in the lungs. 8 for silver/17 for gold. Make sure to look at the animals' vitals using hunter's sense and aim for the lungs.

  • Hunter Sense - Shoot animals while using Hunter Sense. 12 for silver/25 for gold. Make sure you are using Hunter Sense when shooting an animal. To activate it, press :triangle: at any time.

  • 10X Scope - Shoot 10 animals with the 2-10X Scope. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Before starting a hunt you can choose your weapon, which will come with a default scope. You will have to purchase and equip certain scopes to earn the specified medal. I would advise keeping track of which scopes you have the 30 kills for and try to switch when you can to avoid grinding these at the end. If you have to grind them out like I did, I'd recommend the Rocky Mountain Bighorn hunt. Note that if you are using the 10X scope and kill an animal while being zoomed out at 4X, it will still count as a 10X Scope kill. Also, contrarily to the description, only the killing shot counts, so spraying one animal with 10 bullets will get you nowhere.

  • 2X Scope - Shoot 10 animals with the 2X Scope. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Same strategy as the 10X Scope but using the 2X Scope.

  • 20X Scope - Shoot 10 animals with the 20X Scope. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Same strategy as the 10X Scope but using the 20X Scope.

  • 6X Scope - Shoot 10 animals with the 6X Scope. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Same strategy as the 10X Scope but using the 6X Scope.

  • Blood Stains - Examine animal blood stains. 6 for silver/12 for gold. This is a little glitchy but luckily you only need 18. When you shoot an animal it will leave a blood stain somewhere. But if it dies, the prompt to 'claim' the trophy will take precedent over the prompt to check the bloodstain. The blood stains will disappear once you tag the animal. If you shoot an animal in the lungs it will usually run a ways before it dies so you might get lucky and have enough distance between the two. The blood stains themselves are glitchy, so you may need to just spam :cross: at different distances to try to get it to register. I found that only wounding the animal doesn't produce a blood stain, so going for the lungs and hoping for the best is the way to go.

  • Spine - Shoot animals in the spine. 8 for silver/17 for gold. Make sure to look at the animals' vitals using hunter's sense and aim for the spine.

  • Hold Breath - Shoot animals while holding your breath. 20 for silver/32 for gold. Getting these 52 kills also takes a while so concentrate on it. While not using a shooting rest, press :l1: to take aim, then hold :l3: for at least a second to start holding your breath and steady your shot. Crouching beforehand using :circle: also helps steady your aim. Make sure to kill the animal to get credit towards the medal.

  • Explorer - Walk 3000 yards for silver/6000 yards for gold. One of the first gold medals you'll get while going through career mode. You need not go out of your way for this one.

  • 4X Scope - Shoot 10 animals with the 4X Scope. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Same strategy as the 10X Scope but using the 4X Scope.

  • Backpedal - Drive backwards. 300 yards for silver/600 yards for gold. Driving 900 yards backwards sounds like a lot but you will get this without trying during the vehicle sections while searching out the flags required to get the trophy animal to spawn.

  • Drive - Drive 1500 yards for silver/3500 yards for gold. You'll drive 5000 yards in the first few vehicle sections alone so you need not go out of your way for this one.

  • Animal Tracks - Examine animal tracks. 15 for silver/25 for gold. You will earn the gold medal for this one while going for the Pursuing the Hunt trophy.

  • Mark - Mark animals with the rangefinder. 10 for silver/20 for gold. Another one to concentrate on, but only after you've gotten the Know Your Target and Hunter Vision trophies. Press :r3: any time to bring up the rangefinder and then press :r1: while aiming at an animal to mark it.

  • Heart - Shoot animals in the heart. 8 for silver/17 for gold. Make sure to look at the animals' vitals using hunter's sense and aim for the heart.

  • Gatherer - Collect flags. 9 for silver/18 for gold. You will earn the gold medal for this one while going for the All Flags trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/F84.jpg Know Your Target (B)

Mark 20 big game animals

This should come naturally through career mode. Big game animals are any animal that requires a stronger gun to take them down. After you've earned enough xp to unlock the big game hunts, you will get this in no time.

Mark the animals in Strategic View or by using the rangefinder (:r3:).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/70B.jpg Fearless Hunter (B)

Hunt 3 attacking animals in a single mission

Later in the game you will be tasked with hunting animals that will charge you if you alert them by making too much noise or missing your shots. You need to kill them while they are charging you. You can get this in most of the attacking animal hunts but I recommend the White Rhino hunt since they are slower and a bigger target to hit. Do the hunt as normal but instead of going for the kill, shoot over their head or at their feet and once they charge, don't stop shooting until they're dead. They can seem like bullet sponges, but luckily the penalty for being "injured" by the animals is weak. I also almost got it by accident in the Elephant level but the 3rd elephant has a tendency to run rather than charge.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/E87.jpg Backbone (B)

Hunt 8 attacking animals

This should actually come naturally as many of the later hunts are attacking animals and you're not likely to be a perfect first shot every time. Just make sure to not stop shooting once they charge and aim for the head if you have to. Sometimes you can land a killing blow just as they maul you which still counts as a kill for you. Just go tag the animal once you 'recover from your injuries'.

Hunt a big game animal from at least 70 yards away

Easily obtained naturally through career mode. You can use Strategic View, Hunter's Vision, or the rangefinder to see how far you are from your target.

Activate 20 Hilltop Spotting locations

Hilltop spotting locations are marked on the map and compass as a green eye, or as a green beam of light when using Hunter's Sense. Walk up to them and press :cross: when prompted to be shown a target animal to hunt. You will receive the trophy once you have activated the 20th location.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/600.jpg Move on Hands and Knees (B)

Activate 15 Shooting Rests

Shooting rests are marked on the map as yellow hunters in the prone position and are outlined in white when using Hunter's Sense. Press :cross: when prompted to use one.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/87B.jpg Hunter Vision (B)

Mark 10 Trophies in Strategic View

You need to first activate a Hilltop Spotting Location in order to be prompted to use Strategic View. Press :l2: to use Strategic View and then :square: on an eligible animal to mark it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/4E2.jpg Shooting Proficiency (B)

Earn 180 GP in one hunt

This will come naturally while progressing through career mode as the higher level hunts will award you with more GP so you need not go out of your way for this one.

Claim an animal on 5 Quick Hunt levels

See Quick Hunt Pro

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/713.jpg Quick Hunt Pro (S)

Claim an animal on all Quick Hunt levels

To unlock all 10 of the quick hunt levels, you must first complete them in career mode. Once you do, you may go about this trophy any which way you like. For me, I made sure to get 4 or 5 animals on the first 3 or 4 levels to ensure I got Quick Hunt Expert out of the way faster. For the remaining levels I just loaded them up, shot the first animal I could, turned on hunter sense to speed up time, and just waited for the time to expire.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/A0D.jpg Step on the Gas (S)

Hunt 4 animals in the vehicle hunts

This will come naturally while going through Career Mode. After finding all the flags in a vehicle section, the trophy animal's location will be noted on your map. Only that animal will count towards the trophy, not the following animals in the next location, meaning you won't get this trophy until the 4th vehicle hunt. This trophy will pop once you've tagged the fourth animal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/EBA.jpg Skillful Hunter (S)

Hunt 10 small game animals

Small game animals include rabbits, racoons, warthogs, monkeys and beavers. You should get this without much problem while going through career mode. They are hard to spot at first because they do not show up in hunter's sense but always spawn in the same locations on each map so you will have no problem finding them again if you need to. It is also much easier to spot small game in the more open plains of the African levels like Namibia and Tanzania.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/B2C.jpg Big Five (S)

Hunt one Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and White Rhino

This will come naturally while going through Career Mode. Other than the fact that these are attacking animals, there is no difference between these hunts and any other. The trophy will pop right after you tag your last 'Big Five' animal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/DFC.jpg Gun Master (S)

Unlock all the gun parts

Once you've chosen the animal you want to hunt and the location, you will be brought to the weapon select screen. Press :triangle: at this screen to access the Gunsmith screen. Here you can spend Gunpoints (GP) to upgrade your weapons. You will earn more than enough GP throughout Career mode to unlock everything. I had over 3000 extra GP when I popped the platinum trophy. Purchase every upgrade for every weapon to unlock this trophy. Note that you do not earn GP in Quick Hunts.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/578.jpg Pursuing the Hunt (S)

Find 50 animal tracks

50 animal tracks would be a lot for other Cabela games but the tracks in this game are actively generated, meaning when an animal moves, they leave fresh tracks. Therefore you will come across hundreds, if not thousands of tracks over the course of career mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/DD6.jpg High Score (S)

Earn 25,000 XP from a single Trophy

An elephant can net you close to 100,000 XP so you'll have no problem getting this to pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/0AA.jpg Complete Rifle Collection (G)

Unlock all the Rifles

You unlock new firearms and their upgrades using gunpoints (GP), which are earned by successfully killing your targets. Buy all 6 guns to earn this trophy. As mentioned in Gun Master, you will have more than enough GP to unlock everything by the end of career mode so there's no need to worry about this trophy. Note that you do not earn GP in Quick Hunts.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/826.jpg Master Hunter (G)

Reach the highest level possible

You need 1 million XP to reach the highest level and you'll get it easily by going through Career Mode. As mentioned in High Score, an elephant will net you close to 100,000 xp each time so there's no need to worry about this trophy. At the time I earned the platinum trophy I had over 1,180,000 xp. Note that you do not earn XP in Quick Hunts.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/390.jpg Experience is Piling Up (G)

Reach 500,000 XP

See Master Hunter

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/424.jpg All Flags (G)

Gather all the Flags from the vehicle hunts

During vehicle sections of certain hunts, you are tasked with finding all the flags on that map in order to spawn the trophies you need to hunt. Use :select: to bring up the map to find the flags. You can not drive directly to the hunt location as there will only be female animals and you'll have to get back into your vehicle to collect the flags. Since the flags are required to finish out the levels, this is not a missable trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1714/575.jpg 20 Rifle Hunts (S)

Hunt 20 animals with rifles

The default weapon you start with will be a bolt action rifle. There are 3 types of guns in the game: bolt action rifles, semi-auto firearms and lever action firearms. Career mode will task you with hunting 75 animals so there is no worry about having to mix things up too much. Just use the most suitable weapon for the type of animal you are hunting and you'll have no problem unlocking this trophy.

Thanks, I'm glad it's helped you!

The bloodstains were truly a pain, but I just kept pressing :cross: as much as I could when I was near one to hope I would get it and half the time that would work. If I remember correctly, the larger deer were the best for this since they seem to take more damage before they die.

Yeah dude that was the only the hardest trophie in the game (my opinion)

I just got it , i did it in level 2 with a 2x scoop and aim around those organs of the animal (not on the lungs btw) (white color it shows) it worked everytime. But its still glitchy so thats why the trophie is hard. sometimes it works few time than not.
