Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a story-driven adventure game that follows two brothers searching for a cure for their ailing father. It was developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 505 games. The story is deep and meaningful set in a Nordic type world. You cross various types of landscapes and talk to an array of NPCs whilst you solve various puzzles. It is a single player game where you take control of both brothers, each with a separate analog stick. The controls can be confusing at times, however, it is not overly demanding and you will soon be controlling both simultaneously with ease.

This game is very easy to gain 100% completion in. If you're playing this game for a hard 100% then you are looking at the wrong game, if you're looking for a great story, visuals and an emotional journey then you're in the right place. No trophy is tied to the story, however, as there is chapter select I wouldn't classify any as missable. The story is pretty short, around 3 hours depending on how much you explore. I would advise just playing the game without worrying about the trophies at first, and enjoy the atmosphere, gameplay and story. Upon completing the game you can quickly obtain all trophies via chapter select in less than a couple of hours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/444.jpg Take a Break (B)

You took a break from adventuring.

This will be the first trophy you get in the game if you follow this guide. It can be obtained at the very beginning of the game. Once you have wheeled your father down the hill in the wheelbarrow, turn around and go down the stone path to the water and press action (:r2:) near the water to skim stones across the water. Once you have done this with one of the two brothers the trophy will unlock.

You threw someone's ball down a well… Shame on you.

This can be obtained in the first chapter. Once you have thrown the water on the sleeping man controlling the drawbridge you will proceed into a new area where you will see a well on your right and a child playing basketball in front of you down the path. Simply walk up to the ball with one of the brothers and press action (:r2: or :l2:) to pick up the ball and then carry it back to the well and drop it in.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/D4E.jpg Black Sheep (S)

Every family's got one.

This trophy is obtained in the first chapter shortly after releasing the bird from the cage for the first part of the Love Birds trophy. You must lower the bridge by running in the wooden wheel with the younger brother. Keep running and cross the bridge with the older brother and pick a sheep up by using action (:l2:). Carry the sheep back across the bridge and head to the lower point of the screen where you will find a path leading down to a burnt out camp fire. Simply drop the sheep in the camp fire and it will turn black by being covered in soot. This will unlock the trophy.

You made the bunnies play nice.

In the same section where you dropped the sheep in the camp fire you will see 5 bunnies hopping around, 4 black and 1 white. Simply pick up the single white bunny using the action buttuon (:r2: or :l2:) with either brother and drop it into the camp fire. This will turn the bunny black, as with the sheep for the Black Sheep trophy. The trophy will then unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/229.jpg A sad tune (B)

You made someone feel better.

This trophy is one of the most emotional and moving experiences I have had in a game. As such I have placed it in spoiler tags in case you want to find and complete this trophy yourself.

[spoiler=123]At the beginning of chapter 4 the path splits into two, head to the right to find a man about to hang himself from a tree. Grab the man with the older brother (:l2:) and then climb the tree with the younger brother and continue along the branch and untie the rope using the action button (:r2:). Once the man has been freed proceed around the back of the tree and continue along the ledge of the cliff. Move into the burnt remains of the man's house and pick up the musical box positioned in the sunlight. Pick the box up and return it to the man. Once the man picks it up the trophy will unlock.

It seems that this man's children were killed in a house fire and as a result the father had nothing to live for.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/DA3.jpg Love Birds (G)

You re-united the two love birds.

This trophy consists of two separate parts. The first is in chapter 1 just past the section where the dog chases the two brothers between the hay bails at the farm. Once you have crossed the water and climbed up the vines you will come to a wall which you must climb. At the top of the wall you will see a bird inside a cage. You must release the bird from the cage with the younger brother by pressing :r2:. The older brother will simply whistle and not open the cage door.

The second part for this trophy is in chapter 4 at the professor's/inventor's station. As you walk down the boardwalk towards the flying apparatus you will see a mounted telescope. Simply press action with either of the brothers to use it (:l2: or :r2:) and look down to the right of the castle in front of you and you will see a single bird sitting on a tree branch. Zoom in with the left analog stick and keep watching and another will land on the branch where they will begin to sing and woo one another before flying away.

Note- If you missed this trophy on your first playthrough, you don't need to playthrough an entire second time to trigger both of the above parts for the trophy. Once you release the bird for the first part in chapter one, continue till the game saves and then quit out and play chapter 4 in the chapter select screen for the second part. This will save you about an hour as you won't need to playthrough chapter two or three. Thanks to GAZDAN for pointing this out.

Furthermore, if you completed the first part but not the second part of the trophy, you will only need to go back and replay chapter 4. Once you spot the birds through the telescope the trophy will unlock. Thanks to tincann for confirming this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/BE3.jpg Windpipe (B)

You made the inventor dance.

This trophy is unlocked in chapter 4 after helping the stranded inventor in the same location as the second part of the Love Birds trophy. When at his house follow the path to the left where you will see a large organ-like musical instrument. Use the younger brother to move the crank (:r2:) and the older brother to move the fan/organ pipe (:l2:) until you hit the right note and the inventor begins to dance. The correct note is on the right hand side of the set of options. Therefore you must push the organ to the top of the screen. You will know when you have found it as the sound the organ makes is much more audible. The camera will pan to the inventor who will begin to dance and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/9E4.jpg Call of the giants (B)

You sounded a giant horn.

This trophy is obtained in chapter 5 just before the giant crossbow. Head to the right to find a large horn which can only be blown with the older brother using the action button (:l2:). The trophy will unlock once you begin to blow the horn.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/AFA.jpg Behind the Curtain (S)

You found a secret.

At the beginning of chapter 6 you will enter a canoe. Shortly along the journey in the canoe you will see a red waterfall to your right. There is a hidden passage through the waterfall so steer your canoe through here to enter an icy cave with a ritual/ceremony going on. The trophy will unlock shortly after entering the cave.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/1EA.jpg Turtle Soup (S)

You helped the turtles to the sea.

In chapter 6 you will come across a crying mother turtle in the water. You must return all 3 of her children to her by sliding them down a path into the water. The slide is to the right of the path when first seeing the mother. Pick the first baby up with both brothers and carry it up the slide and drop it down. The second baby is already here waiting so repeat for this baby as well. The third turtle is found on a ledge to the right above where the first baby turtle was found, boost the younger brother up and push the baby off the ledge. Continue to push the third and final baby down the slide into the water for the trophy to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/532.jpg Whale Song (S)

You practised singing.

This is obtained directly after rescuing the turtle family in Chpater 6 (refer to Turtle Soup). You will pass a two man saw upon climbing a small ledge. Continue along this path until you see the bench overlooking the cliff and icy water below. Sit on the bench with both brothers by holding :r2: and :l2: whilst in front. The whale song will then start and you will see whales jumping out of the water below. The trophy will then unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1745/9F7.jpg Falling star (B)

Make a wish.

This trophy is obtained in chapter 3. After successfully fending off the wolfs with the torch you will reach a cemetery with a statue of an angel on your right surrounded by candles. Use the younger brother to interact with the statue by pressing and holding :r2:. Hold this for around 5 seconds and you will see a shooting star move past in the sky behind the statue.

Nice guide mate! Was thinking about getting it as I've been looking for another quirky PSN adventure game since I finished The Cave and The Unfinished Swan.

The trophies look pretty straightforward and the guide looks great!

Particularly the referral link ;)

Yeah its pretty quick to get 100% and the story is great too.

Yeah ModernWarBear commented on my referral as well haha. Im planning on rewording it :)

Haha it's fine mate! She asked me if she could use mine originally, but she just abridged it a bit. I see it as a compliment ;)

How much is the game btw?

On the Australian ps store its about $22. Which is quite abit but well worth it I reckon. Are you thinking of getting it?

Not from the AUS store :p. But from the EU one, definitely! Although it seems like it'll be the type of game to come on + too so I might wait

Yeah i was about to mention that. the trial was promoted on the home page on the ps store here, so it will probably get discounted soon. May as just wait for the price drop :)

That is exactly what I am thinking aswell. I think I will wait for it to be discounted on PS Plus or if it is free.

Sure I only played Journey a few weeks ago when it was discounted to €5 and this game is pretty much in the same situation for me

Love this game and good guide. I never would have gotten a couple of trophies just because I would have never thought to interact with the environment in a given way. Just a sweet game...

Glad it helped :)

Yeah a few are easily missable, but as there is chapter select you can clean them up pretty quick after you've finished the story.

Great guide, thanks for writing it. Fantastic game this really enjoyed it.

I think the man involved in the A Sad Tune trophy has lost his WIFE and child though, not 2 children.

I like how the trophies for the game have nothing to do with the your progress through the game, they are all things you would do on the side. Thats cool :D
