Introduction:

Brave: The Video Game is a third person action-adventure, based on this summer’s Disney Pixar film. Starring Merida, a strong independent and red-haired Scottish princess who’s armed with a sword, bow, and magical charms, she'll set out on a quest to save her cursed land and mother. Yes, Brave: The Video Game is indeed an easy and quick platinum that can even be done in one day. This game is very straight forward and the collectibles are all easy to obtain. Be warned though, you'll die a lot and will kill a lot of enemies along the way as you'll end up grinding Golden Coins.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: New Game Brave Difficulty + Getting All Collectibles

This is your first step in obtaining the platinum. Begin a New Game on Brave difficulty and complete the entire game without ever changing the difficulty setting. Brave is hardest difficulty setting for the game and it will be frustrating. Enemies do 50% more damage and have more health. You'll die a lot, but the checkpoints in this game are fantastic. You spawn around the same area you died before you entered combat. All enemies are very powerful and there are a few that are capable of killing you in only two hits (Boars, Golems, & Bosses). The bosses can and will be a pain the first time you face them in combat. Don't worry though, as mention before. This game is very straightforward and easy to master.

While playing on Brave difficulty, I highly recommend that you get all the collectibles in the game. The collectibles are the following:

  • Bows
  • Swords
  • Tapestries
  • Outfits

Like in other games the collectibles are all related to certain trophies unlocking. However, the collectibles in this game are actually permanent power/stats upgrades. Yes, I said permanent. Once you collected a new Bow or Sword, your damage will increase for that weapon type. This means if you collect every collectible along the way as you play through Brave difficulty. It'll become much easier as you can now kill things even faster. Tapestries are collectibles that also grant permanent bonuses, but they come in the following three different types:

  • Tapestry of Valor - Increases max health
  • Tapestry of Ferocity - Increases Queen Elinor's damage
  • Tapestry of Battle - Increases Merida's Wisps Power Attack's duration

As you can see, getting the collectibles is an awarding benefit towards completing Brave difficultly. The outfits don't grant anything special as they are just for costume styles only, but collect them anyway so you can unlock the all outfits collected trophy. If you prefer a written or video collectible guide as you're playing, then please click here. At the end of this step, you should have all story related trophies, all collectible trophies and a few combat related trophies unlocked. Once you completed the game you're free to use The Ring of Stones to clean up the remaining trophies you need in step 2.

Step 2: Using The Ring of Stones to Cleanup - Easy Difficulty

This is your final step in obtaining the platinum. Once you completed the game for the first time, you're free to use The Ring of Stones to replay any level all over again. Since you've already beaten the game on Brave difficulty for the Gaelic hero trophy, press :start: and select 'Options' and change the difficulty from Brave to Easy. You want to play on easy to make the grinding you're about to do much easier for yourself. On Easy difficulty, enemies will die much more quickly and won't do much damage at all towards you. Literally, they're only capable of doing about 5% damage towards you on this setting.

The following are the few types of trophies that you'll be farming depending on your playthrough:

  • Purchase all upgrades.
  • As Merida, defeat 30 enemies in a row without taking damage.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using the Fire charm.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using the Ice charm.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using the Wind charm.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using the Earth charm.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using power attack.
  • Defeat 250 enemies using charged shot.
  • As Merida, defeat 5 enemies with a single charged shot.
  • As Elinor, charge 5 enemies with a single charge attack.
  • Complete a level without using your sword.

Some of those you may already have, if you don't, then please refer to the trophy guide section for the best location and level to obtain the trophies on. The main thing you're really doing here is farming Golden Coins. You'll need a lot of currency in order to purchase all the upgrades in the game that you haven't purchase.

Below I'll mention how to farm Golden Coins as quickly as possible:

  • Play on Easy difficulty of course
  • At The Ring of Stones select the last level 'Ruins of the Ancient Kingdom'
  • While playing the last level over again be sure to destroy all pots for Golden Coins, and kill everything as you normally would.
  • Continue proceeding until you made it to the final boss Mor'du.
  • Kill all bosses and their infinite spawning minions (if minions stop spawning kill boss)
  • Each run nets you an average of about 5000-5500 Golden Coins.
  • Resin and repeat over and over again until you purchased everything.

Defeat the rock golem guardian.

This is a story related trophy and cannot be missed. You'll face the first boss of the game during the 'Buried Passage'. On Brave difficulty this boss will be an issue because he's capable of killing you in only two hits and he has minions with spawner stones.

Below are tips to go about killing him:

  • Make sure to have the Wind charm equipped from the start as all the enemies during this battle are all weak to wind element.
  • As soon as you land on the platform attempt to kill the two explosive minions right away with either a charged shot or power attack.
  • After killing them, be sure to always double jump away from the Golem Guardian's boulder attacks. Getting hit twice from this will result in a death, but being airborne prevents you from getting hurt.
  • Next, take out the spawner rings immediately while still avoiding getting hit. I recommend that you use you sword or power attack to destroy the spawners quickly. Once they're gone kill any Boars that are still alive.
  • Afterwards, kill the normal golems with either your bow or sword attacks.
  • Now focus on the main boss and keep attacking him with the bow until he's dead. Remember to keep dodging his boulders by double jumping away from them and to never melee the boss or his stomp attack will one hit kill you.

Defeat the harpy guardian.

This is a story related trophy and cannot be missed. You'll face the second boss of the game during the 'Murky Chasm'. This boss is much easier and shouldn't be an issue even on Brave difficulty.

Below are tips to go about killing him:

  • Make sure that you have the charged shot: earth upgrade as this fight is even easier with it. If you have it fully upgraded then you'll breeze through this fight even faster.
  • As soon as the fight begins keep spamming the Earth charm’s charged shot while killing first killing the Harpy Guardian's minions. Once the minions are all killed they won't respawn back.
  • Afterwards keep double jumping away from the huge explosive attack that it shots at you. Getting hit twice can kill you, but it's too easy to dodge.
  • Eventually the Harpy Guardian will die from all the charged shots you fired.

Defeat Mor'du.

This is a story related trophy and cannot be missed. You'll face the final boss of the game during the 'Ruins of the Ancient Kingdom'. This is really a four part boss fight, but once you successfully killed a boss the game will automatically save. So even if you die, you won't have to fight the boss that you've already killed. Three out of the four of these bosses are easy to defeat. The second one is a pain (although I have a cheap method to killing him). I highly recommend that you have the following abilities fully upgraded before even fighting them:

  • Charged shot: Fire
  • Charged shot: Ice
  • Charged shot: Earth

Those charged shots will save you from frustration and you should have the decreased time it takes to charge charged shots fully upgraded by this point as well.

Below are tips to go about killing them and be sure to only focus on the boss:

Ice Wolf Guardian:

His weakness is fire since he's ice element based. He spawns an infinite number of ice wolfs. All of his attacks are easy to dodge and it's best to keep your distance from them as usual. Simply keep spamming the charged shot of Fire to make quick work of him. Once he's dead all his minions will automatically die, so destroy the pillar.

Fire Boar Guardian:

His weakness is ice since he's fire element based. He's considered the most difficult boss to defeat in the game and he also spawns with an infinite number of fire Boars and Spriggans. This boss is capable of killing you in only two hits as well as his fire Boar minions. However, there is a super easy cheap method to go about killing him that I've discovered from my own frustration of dying. To do this you'll need to have all the collectibles in the game meaning that you also have all the max health upgrades. When the battle begins run to the edge of the cliff and keep attack the boss with the charged shot of Ice to make quick work of him. When the boss is about to charge at you and hit you, simply walk off the edge of the cliff, you'll fall and take a small amount of damage from falling, but you'll avoid getting hit from the Fire Boar Guardian. Once you're back on the platform keep spamming him again with the Ice charged shots and walking over the cliff's edge. Eventually he'll die from you doing this cheap trick. When he's dead destroy the pillar to face the next boss.

Harpy Guardian:

The Harpy Guardian is a boss you've fought before, so he has the same weakness of Earth. Keep spamming the Earth charge shots to make quick work of him and to double jump away from his explosive attacks. His minions aren’t an issue either. Afterwards, destroy the pillar to face the final boss.

Rock Golem Guardian:

The Rock Golem Guardian is yet another boss you've fought before. Although his weakness is really wind, I highly recommend that you use the Earth charged shot to kill him and his minions. The reason is because he's unable to harm once you made it to the second platform near him. Once on that platform you can keep spamming him with the charged shots of Earth to kill him. If you're having issues hitting him, then jump and shot him with charge shots. Be sure to kill the minions that spawn right away while doing this cheap method. They are still capable of hitting you unlike the boss who cannot. After destroying the final pillar, you've beaten the whole game. Congratulations!

Defeat the game on Brave difficulty, without changing it.

You'll want to begin a New Game on Brave difficulty and complete the entire game without ever changing the difficulty setting.

Finding and collecting them along your journey will prepare you for the final confrontation with Mor'du. The collectibles are the following:

  • Bows
  • Swords
  • Tapestries
  • Outfits

Below are some quick basic Brave difficulty tips:

The Merchant:

Purchase the Dodge, Collection range, Health potions, various Power attack, various Charged shots early on. The Earth and Fire Charged shots are a must have since they are more useful especially fully upgraded. Be sure to get the upgrades that decreases the time it takes make a charged shot. The Health potions are fantastic as they can save your life by restoring more health as you upgrade it. These are the main things that will help you out. Ignore purchasing the Slam attack or the Coop Wisp as these are useless to you. Be careful on the Power attacks upgrades, only purchase the ones that increase the meter's charging and not the element charms Power attacks.

Bow:

Rely heavenly on your bow and keep a distance from almost every enemy type. Certain enemies can injure you greatly at close range and you'll die quicker on Brave. Also spam the charged shots as these can help kill multiple enemies at once.

Sword:

The sword is close quart melee weapon and can help you out on certain situations. Along the way, you'll encounter a few enemies that are difficult to defeat with the bow at first. The sword however can quickly kill these types of enemies with ease.

Weaknesses:

Take advantage of the enemies’ weaknesses by using charms that deals extra damage towards them. All enemies display an icon above their head that indicates which magic charm they're weak against. On Brave, enemies have much more health meaning it'll take longer to kill them. Just by using the proper charms against them will make this issue slightly go away, since you'll kill them faster than before.

Dodging:

Make use of the dodge move as this move can be used to avoid rock boulders thrown by Golems or to evade a Boar's charging attack.

Double Jumping:

Get in the habit of double jumping as double jumping will ensure that you make it onto platforms. It's also another dodging method that you can use to evade enemies attacks. There are a few enemies and bosses in the game where double jumping will prevent you from taking damage.

As Merida, defeat 30 enemies in a row without taking damage.

This is a combat related trophy where you'll have to defeat 30 enemies in a row without taking damage as Merida. Defeating enemies in a row will give you will-o-the-wisps around you. Will-o-the-wisps gives you a chance to perform a ‘critical hit’ [bonus damage] to enemies. A lighting strike will let you know that you’ve scored a ‘critical hit’. You can see your streak number kills in a row on your left side of your screen flashing and increasing as you defeat enemies in a row.

Just keep spamming your bow from a distance and you'll end up getting this naturally without even trying. Charged shots can also help you in killing enemies quickly as well as pushing them back. The only way you'll lose your defeat kill streak is by getting hit by an enemy or by falling off an edge's cliff or into a river of water etc. Be careful of enemies that shoot out projectiles right before they die. Also be careful to avoid any poison plants or trails that can harm you by walking onto them (fire boars and spike traps for example).

If you're struggling and still need this on your clean up, then the best level to get this one is during the Coastal Cliffs. This is the best level to defeat 30 enemies in a row without taking damage. Right after getting the last collectible, Tapestry of Valor, and then jumping off the platforms to fight the enemies below. Be sure to have the wind charm ready as all the enemies are weak to this charm and die quickly as long as you’re spamming the bow.

I recommend that you purchase the upgrade that decreases the time it takes to charge a charged shot. Also take note that you can further upgrade charged shots by buying more upgrades for it. While playing through the game for the first time, there is a chance that you might have already unlocked this trophy.

If not, then you can easily obtain this trophy on the following levels:

Forest Grove:

In the area where you're looking for the berries, use the zip-line and with a fully upgraded Charged Shot: Fire stand in the corner by the zip-line. The 6-8 shadow wolfs that spawned will come and surround you, so release a charged shot to kill them all at once.

Chilled Creek:

At the very beginning of the level, about 6-10 ice wolfs spawn at once. Gather them around the Merchant stone and once you're ready fire a fully upgraded Charged Shot: Fire to kill them all at once.

Ruins of the Ancient Kingdom:

As you're farming Golden Coins on this level, you can easily obtain this trophy on the elevator ride.

Defeat 100 enemies as Queen Elinor.

This is a combat related trophy where you'll have to defeat 100 enemies as Queen Elinor. In a way, this is considered a story related trophy. You'll kill over 100 enemies while playing as Queen Elinor during certain portions of the levels.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1555/7A2.jpg Get out of my way (B)

As Elinor, charge 5 enemies with a single charge attack.

This is a combat related trophy where you'll have to charge 5 enemies with a single charge attack as Queen Elinor. The first time you're able to play as Elinor will grant you the ability to obtain this trophy. Simply run around in a circle until a bunch of enemies have grouped and surrounded you. Once they do, simply press :circle: charge attack them. The enemies hit by it don't necessary have to die. As long as you hit 5 enemies with the charged attack the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1555/8F1.jpg Ranged only (B)

Complete a level without using your sword.

This is a combat related trophy where you'll complete a level without using your sword. Using your sword even once will negate the trophy from unlocking. If you do use the sword by mistake, such as cutting down flowers and pots, you can press :start: and 'Quit to Ring of Stones'. You simply have to complete a level using only your bow. This trophy can easily be done on the 'Forest Grove' level; however, I recommend that you do this trophy only during your clean up playthrough. It's because you'll lose a lot of Golden Coins during you're Brave playthrough if you decide to beat the first level without a sword. This can cause you issues, as you'll need the Golden Coins to purchase upgrades such as charged shots, power attacks, collection range, health potions etc.

Purchase all upgrades.

Note: Be sure to have the collection range upgrade fully maxed out early as it increases the collection distance for currency and health potions.

This will most likely be your last trophy in the game as it's the most time consuming trophy. For the trophy, you'll need to purchase all the upgrades for Merida. To do this you'll need Golden Coins which are your currency, and can be obtained by defeating enemies and finding treasures containing coins through the world. The Golden Coins are used to purchase upgrades via the Merchant, which can be accessed through The Witch's house or through way-points that have been cleansed of the evil blight.

After beating the game the first time you'll have to farm the remaining Golden Coins by replaying the last level 'Ruins of the Ancient Kingdom' over and over again on Easy difficulty setting. Replaying that level will give you an average currency of about 5000-5500 Golden Coins per a run. It'll take about 2-3 hours of farming, but as long as you're playing on Easy and killing things quickly by spamming fully upgraded charged shots it'll be a breeze.

Below is a listing of all the upgrades in the game and their amount of currency:

[spoiler=upgrades]

  • Dodge - 250
  • Slam Attack – 500
  • Slam Attack – 350, 700, 1400

In a sense, this trophy is considered story related trophy and cannot be missed. During your first playthrough, you'll be collecting Golden Coins for upgrades to help you on your journey. Once you collected 15,000 currency the trophy will naturally unlock. Also, keep in mind that this trophy is cumulative meaning that you don't need to have 15,000 currency on you at once.

Looks good, my question is so what was the problem with your game not saving?

I don't know what happen on my first playthrough. Yes I lost about 8 hours of game time (which is why my (P) time is over 20 hours) when I gotten tired and decided to go to sleep. All my data was gone, and :psn+: cloud didn't have it.

So I just had to restart it and make sure to accept all the auto saves that appeared when you install the game. Afterwards, my game automatically saved like normal even if I decided to quit and eat launch.

It is nothing to worry about and you can (P) this game in one sitting if you wish.

Rage quitting during a load is never a good idea. Either way, it sucks to have to replay any game because of a thing like that.

I would recommend mentioning that the enemies all have an icon above their head that indicates which spell they are weak against. In reality, as you're farming coins for upgrades during cleanup, you should be able to earn all kill trophies. Also, make sure not to use the sword to cut down flowers and pots for completing a level without using the sword. I know the guide indirectly mentions that fact, but worth noting.

This is not true, "Gaelic hero" is missable.

It's not a missable. You simply start a new game on Brave difficulty and finish the game without change it. If you changed the difficulty if simply means that you negated the trophy from unlocking.

There are plenty of examples of these types of difficulty trophies. Below are examples that I can name off the top of my head that I ever personally encountered in my platinum collection:

Bioshock's:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/23/53.jpg I Chose the Impossible (G)

Complete the game on Survivor difficulty without using a Vita-chamber

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/450/10.jpg Legend (G)

Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution at its hardest setting without ever changing the difficulty.

If you wish, you can always contact Mendel with a PM message. He's currently the head of the Guide Team. Or you can post a message in the threads linked below:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/faq/27461-road-maps-complete-walkthrough.html

http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/faq/27004-trophy-guides-complete-walkthrough.html

About these types of difficulty trophies. In the history that I've been a member of the site, I personally have never seen a guide writer marked these types of difficulty trophies as missable. They are all technically noted in the road maps. I hope this info helps.
