Introduction:

Welcome to Blade Kitten, an action platformer available on PSN based on an online webcomic of the same name. This game follows Kit Ballard, one of the only survivors of a human-cat hybrid species left on the planet, and her adventures as one of the best bounty hunters in the business. Blade Kitten has simple platforming and action mechanics as you explore thirteen immense levels, with many collectibles to find, gorgeous anime graphics, and many extras to buy in the in-game store. There is definitely enough content to warrant the price, and will definitely keep you busy for a few days.

The trophy list in Blade Kitten offers a little challenge but more so just revolves around finding all the collectibles and buying all extra content (outfits, weapons, etc.). You'll also have to have your total level time at 90 minutes or under and kill 5,000+ enemies (this will require some grinding as it's impossible to get naturally unless you play the game over multiple times). Throughout the game there'll be three types of collectibles for you to find; treasure chests, Datapaks and Skiffs. You can also upgrade your health and whatnot for help in battle however it's not necessary as the game itself is very easy and once you buy the strongest blade, the game gets even easier.

I – Getting Collectibles

This will probably be the longest step of your road to 100% as the sheer amount of collectibles can bog you down. You'll have to focus on finding 142 treasure chests, 20 Datapaks and 20 Skiffs across all levels, using RadiantViper's guide or

as a reference. The treasure chests are actually the only ones that net you a trophy in the end, however collecting all Datapaks and Skiffs are required to be able to unlock all outfits for Kit, required for another trophy. You won't need to keep a checklist handy either as all collectibles are recorded in the level select screen of the :select: menu. Aside from all this, take your time (it's best not to attempt (B) Speedy Kitten until you're familiar with the game), and enjoy the game. Make sure to kill all enemies you come across to start racking up kills for sole gold trophy, (G) Unfriendly Fire. After this step you'll have unlocked the majority of the trophies:

(B)

Invisible Bike

(B)
The Kit Fu is Strong in This One

(B)
Nine Lives

(B)
Slide Queen

(B)
Weaporisseur

(S)
Icky Skiffy

(S)
Loot to Boot

(S)
New BFFs

II – Speedrun

Using level select in the :select: button menu, replay every single level as fast as you can so that the total game time (which can be viewed in the Status tab of the same menu) equates to 90 minutes or less. This may sound difficult, but it's actually a very easy feat as long as you just completely rush through the level, solving puzzles as fast as you can and only fighting enemies when necessary. Depending on how much you explored in Step I, this may be your final trophy, however this is extremely unlikely. After this step you will unlock the following trophy:

(B)

Speedy Kitten

III - Clean Up

Now that the majority of the trophies are finished with, it's just a matter of cleaning up what you have yet to earn. You're going to have to grind a bit for (G) Unfriendly Fire, but there's an excellent grind spot to do this efficiently. You should have almost enough Hex if not enough for purchasing all outfits for the (B) Fashionista trophy, however if not then you should replay some of the levels to earn the remaining Hex (this should not take too long at all depending on how extensively you explored in your first playthrough). Now that you know the levels inside and out, you should be able to get the (S) Kitten Power trophy will relative ease. After all this you should now have your 100% assuming you unlocked the following trophies:

(B)

Fashionista

(S)
Kitten Power

(G)
Unfriendly Fire

Conclusion:

Blade Kitten is a fun game with a unique protagonist and gameplay which will appeal to both platformer and anime fans. Since it's at a cheap price you have no reason not to purchase this if you fall into either one of those categories, and should definitely invest the time to earn this rewarding and satisfactory 100% while you're at it!

Defeat Acland - successfully complete Act 1

This trophy will unlock upon completing Acland, the last level of the first act in the game. This is the longer act of the two, and the following levels must be completed for the trophy to unlock:

  • Level 1: War on Terra
  • Level 2: Skiff Happens
  • Level 3: Chasing Justice
  • Level 4: Urb Ex
  • Level 5: Exodus
  • Level 6: Collaborator
  • Level 7: Acland

Boss strategy: Kaiju

In Level 7: Acland, you'll be chased down by a Kaiju as you escape the battlefield ruins. This is a very easy boss as you don't actually have to directly fight him at all – just run away from him. However, if he does hit you, it's an instant death. Keep running to the right and if you start to fall behind near his claws, dash using :r2: to get back to safety. There'll be a few cracks in the floor leading to fire and debris which are deadly in slowing you down, so make sure to keep a close eye on what's ahead of you as you run. Every so often, you'll get stuck in a multi-storey room and the Kaiju will attack the militia, breaking the floor in the process. He can hit you here however it's not an instant killer (though it does deal major damage). Simply avoid his swipes and wait for the exit in the lower right area to open. Continue this process until a cutscene kicks in.

Defeat the Dreadnaught - successfully complete Act 2

This trophy will unlock upon completing Dreadnaught, the last level of the second act in the game. This is the shorter act of the two, and the following levels must be completed for the trophy to unlock:

  • Level 8: Darque Nights
  • Level 9: Berserk
  • Level 10: Sisterhood
  • Level 11: Vor Hunting
  • Level 12: Hidden Fortress
  • Level 13: Dreadnaught

Boss strategy: Terra-Li

This boss fight can be confusing if you don't really know what to do. Terra-Li has three moves, the first of which being a beam which she moves all the way along the platform. Next she'll shoot said beam across the roof of the platform to have spikes fall down on you. Her last move is her most deadly but is also easy to dodge. She'll destroy the platform you're standing on and, if you don't move quickly, will make you fall and instantly die. However, she only destroys half of the platform maximum so just run to the other side. Once she moves onto an upper platform, quickly follow her. To actually damage Terra-Li, approach her just before she uses the beam move (this is always her first on a new platform) and hold the :circle: button. You'll automatically target her green glowing area. Let go of the :circle: button and it'll pull Terra-Li towards you. Swipe her once and she'll regain her balance and continue attacking. This is the only way to attack her. Do this process 5-6 times to initiate the final cutscene of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/03.jpg Slide Queen (B)

Defeat 100 enemies using slide

Sliding is usually used to get under low structures however can be used to attack enemies as well. To slide, hold  and :cross:. Do this near enemies to knock them over. You should try to get this trophy out of the way so upon starting your first playthrough, try to kill the majority of enemies using the slide. You should unlock this trophy sometime in Level 2: Skiff Happens if you use it on the majority of enemies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/04.jpgKitten Power (S)

Complete any level without losing health

This is arguably the most difficult trophy in the game. You must complete any of the thirteen levels in the game without taking any form of damage. The best level for this by far is Level 13: Dreadnaught because the level is purely dedicated to a boss battle which is very easy to beat without getting damaged. (Please read (S) New BFFs for further details on all of Terra-Li's attacks). To dodge virtually all of her moves, press and hold the :l2: button. This forms a shield around you which deflects any sort of damage coming your way (making the trophy a whole lot easier), meaning all you have to do is wait for your opening to attack. Keep a close eye on Kit's health bar as well; if Kit makes any other face besides the red, angry one (she makes this when she's attacking) then you'll have taken damage. The trophy will unlock upon finishing the cutscene that follows.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/05.jpg Unfriendly Fire (G)

Defeat 5,000 enemies

For this trophy you have to kill 5,000 enemies. This is an extremely large number and you will not earn this naturally (unless you played through the game for fun multiple other times) and even two playthroughs isn't enough. You're going to have to grind the remaining ones out, but where to do this isn't a problem. Load up Level 8: Darque Nights, and rush through the level to the final room. Stay in a corner, hold :l2: and press :square: repeatedly (any other attack exposes yourself too much and you'll be killed in a heartbeat). The Darques infinitely respawn so you can stay here for as long as you need to earn the trophy. If you killed the majority of the enemies you came across on your first playthrough and only killed the required enemies in your speedrun playthrough, it will take roughly an hour of grinding for the trophy to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/06.jpg Speedy Kitten (B)

Total best level times of 90 minutes or less

For this trophy, your best time on all of the levels together must add up to 90 minutes or less. This may seem like a daunting task at first but it's actually easy since almost all fights can be skipped and all puzzles are very straightforward (you should remember them from your first playthrough anyway). The following were my personal times on all stages and you can use these as a guideline to what time you should be going for in each stage.

  • Level 1: War on Terra ~ 7:40
  • Level 2: Skiff Happens ~ 4:10
  • Level 3: Chasing Justice ~ 8:22
  • Level 4: Urb Ex ~ 8:08
  • Level 5: Exodus ~ 5:18
  • Level 6: Collaborator ~ 5:35
  • Level 7: Acland ~ 2:52
  • Level 8: Darque Nights ~ 3:31
  • Level 9: Berserk ~ 7:47
  • Level 10: Sisterhood ~ 4:06
  • Level 11: Vor Hunting ~ 5:09
  • Level 12: Hidden Fortress ~ 5:35
  • Level 13: Dreadnaught ~ 2:25

Adding all of these times up gives a result of 70:38, meaning I still had roughly 20 minutes to spare. As you can see, 90 minutes is incredibly lenient and is a very easy feat. Below are a few tips to help you finish levels as quickly as possible.

  • Run past all enemies you encounter. There's no need to fight the optional enemies and you're only wasting time. Only when it's a forced fight (like a few in the earlier levels) should you fight enemies in this speedrun.
  • Make use of dashing. You can dash using the :r2: button. The blue gauge on Kit's health bar will quickly drain when you dash but you can cover a lot of ground when you do run. You'd be surprised how much time you can save using this.
  • Grip jump on walls. When you're climbing on a wall, you don't need to climb up it the normal way. Grip onto the wall with :l2: then press :cross: to catapult yourself upwards, a much faster way of travel.
  • Don't explore. This should be a given but you don't need to explore nor do you necessarily have the time to. Stick to the main path to keep good time.

Purchase all the Free Blades from Hundert Tonne

When you get a short way into the game, the Weaporium in the :select: menu will become available. Stat-boosting goods, weapons and outfits are available to purchase, however the latter two come with high price tags. For this trophy, you must buy all three weapons available. You will need 257,000 Hex total. Here are the three blades you'll need to purchase (excluding Free Blade, Kit's default weapon):

  • Gladion: Can be purchased for 32,000 Hex.
  • Bastar: Can be purchased for 75,000 Hex.
  • Grengis: Can be purchased for 150,000 Hex.

You shouldn't need to grind for Hex to buy these, but if you do, please read (B) Fashionista for a useful grinding method.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/08.jpg Fashonista (B)

Purchase all the costumes from Hundert Tonne

There are ten outfits in the game that can be unlocked for Kit, however only six of them can be bought from the Weaporium in the :select: menu. Buying all six will require a total amount of 1,495,500 Hex. Here is a list of the outfits that can be purchased:

  • Flight Suit (15,000 Hex)
  • Pajamas (49,350 Hex)
  • Dress (148,050 Hex)
  • Justice (246,750 Hex)
  • Magasse (444,150 Hex)
  • Sun Dae (592,200 Hex)

Depending on how you spend your money you may or may not have to grind out the remaining cash to buy what you need. There is one spot which is an excellent area to grind for Hex in this game, and only takes 3-5 minutes per run, gaining you roughly 35,000 Hex for each run you do (this isn't including Hex that you find on the paths along the way, meaning that's a minimum). Simply follow these steps:

  1. Load up Level 6: Collaborator, head right and jump into the 'moat' of the castle. Drop down the wooden passage and head to the left to find 3,000 Hex. Spring back up and go to the right, flipping the switch. This drains the moat. Return back out to the moat and you'll have revealed a goldfish worth 10,000 Hex.
  2. Next, climb up to the castle walls, and from there, dash and jump over to a ledge (dash using :r2: and jump using :cross:). Climp up and there's a portal. The area this leads you to is riddled with all sorts of Hex. There is roughly 15,000 Hex to be had here.
  3. There's one more step to nab you another load of Hex. In the same room as Step 3, go to the very bottom, and you'll see a trapdoor with bombs on the upside. Grab onto the door so Kit's weight pulls it down. These bombs will roll down and destroy an otherwise-unbreakable structure, allowing you to pass through. Follow the linear path (picking up small Hex groups along the way) and it'll open up to a room holding 8,000 Hex. Take the portal to the right.
  4. You'll have returned to the castle walls. Now that you've picked up the motherload, rush through the level to the next checkpoint (should only take a few moments) to have the game save what you've picked up. Load up another chapter and then reload Level 6: Collaborator so you'll start the level afresh, saving what you've already earned. Repeat this method as many times as necessary.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/09.jpg Loot to Boot (S)

Find all the treasure chests in the game

For this trophy, you'll need to find and open every single treasure chest in the game. There are 142 treasure chests to collect in the game in eleven levels (both Level 7: Acland and Level 13: Dreadnaught have no chests due to being exclusive to boss fights). To find all treasure chests, Skiffs and Datapaks, please follow RadiantViper's Collectibles Guide.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/10.jpg Nine Lives (B)

Die nine times in any one level

An extremely easy trophy, this can be earned the first time you boot up the game. You can either let the enemies kill you at the beginning of Level 1: War on Terra or wait until you get to the area with the conveyor belt and stamping mechanism. Simply stand under the mechanism and let it crush you. There's a checkpoint just next to you so just repeat until you get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/11.jpg The Kit Fu is Strong With This One (B)

Defeat 10 enemies in a row without losing health

You must defeat ten enemies in a row without losing any health. This is easily achieved and you'll most likely earn it without even trying. Using the sliding method to attack enemies (holding the :ls: down and pressing the :cross: button) dodges many if not all enemy attacks so this is an excellent method to rack up the kills. Use this on the red militia in the first few levels to instantly kill them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/653/12.jpg Invisible Bike (B)

Perch on and throw an enemy

This will most likely be your first trophy in the game, as it is one of the first few tutorials. Run towards an enemy, jump near them and when you're above their head, press the :l2: button to perch on their shoulders and throw them away, an instant kill move which uses some of your stamina. The trophy will unlock after the first time you use this attack.

I'm impressed, nicely done as always with your guide. :D

You've almost convinced me to give this game a shot, its kaiwaii levels are off the chart. :francis:

Is kaiwaii intended there? If so, very clever. :p

But thanks Frosty, you should download the demo again and see if it's to your liking :)

Great job Miss, I already got my 100% a few months back.

Not many people have the 100%. I'm thinking it is down to the collectibles.

Really? That's surprising, because it really is a very simple and basic PSN 100%. Though there's no denying almost 150 collectibles *does* sound daunting at the beginning.

Thanks for reading
