From the makers of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, comes Birds of Steel, a combat simulator featuring some of the most pivotal air battles of World War II, including the battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, the historic attack on Pearl Harbour, the Mediterranean Maltese island and more.

Birds of Steel offers 20 historical and a wealth of fictitious missions, spanning eight world-famous campaigns, and users are given access to over 100 famous planes from the entire axis and allied forces rosters. A number of planes ideal for each campaign can be selected, and have been faithfully recreated in terms of handling, capabilities and weaponry. The classic Spitfire, P-51D Mustangs, and Messerschmidt 109 are all lined up for combat, as players opt to player opt to fight for the Allies, Japanese or Axis forces.

Birds of Steel also enjoys a huge online element. Players can support co-op missions alongside friends, or enter massive multi-player online dogfights to see who owns the skies.

Being a massive WW2 aircraft nerd, I loved Birds of Prey, so much so that I was willing to put up with a massive grind for the platinum, so a sequel using a similar game engine but set in the pacific is exactly what I was wishing for after finishing the first game.

The game currently set for an early 2012 release, so here's a few images to whet your appetite:

Looks good, no? With the series' previous Pacific Fighters game set in the same era, and the fantastic Birds of Prey on consoles, it's set to be a great game.

But what are your thoughts? Interested?

O M G yes. LOVED il2. it was the best flying game ive played (game play and realism) so much to do and explore and getting hold of the beast that was the B17 just made me wasnt to platinum the game to death. I normally sell a game straight after platting it, but Il2 i kept going back to.

This one looks mint too, if its the same engine and same style of play with missions and dogfights with good online mp - i will get it for definite!

many other games try to be good flight sims/arcade, but hawx, secret wars, ace combat were all very disappointing.

I'm interested but not convinced on the MP side of things. That's the problem with niche interest games: the MP is either dead, or only full of 'the elite' people you don't stand a chance against.

I'm a bit torn on this. Have loved old flight games ever since I first played SWOTL waaaaay back in the early 90s.

When you play online you can actually add bots to your game if not enough other people are playing. Even with bots you should still be able to rank up, unlock stuff and earn trophies. But you will need at least 1 human player on each team.

Got my copy about 30 min ago!

Lucky you! I've been looking and asking around town all day, but nobody has it here. One of the stores ordered 2, which should arrive tomorrow.

I've been having this bad feeling the last couple of days and it seems like I was right, lots of people are having trouble finding a copy.

I hope I'll be able to get my copy tomorrow.

I was the same way the last couple of days. Was at a Future Shop, they had none, none in transit and none in the warehouse. Went across the street to EB and they had one copy out back. What a fluke.

All of the Gamestops around me had it but they only

had 1 copy each which meant that it they were all

open. I usually will not buy any opend games but I

could not find it anywhere else. Fye does not stock

it, Best Buy only carries it for X-Box, Target does not

stock it, and Walmart only carries it online. I ended

buying it from the fist Gamestop I tired on my second

trip. I probably won't play it until I get the last seven

trophies I need for 100% on Red Dead Redemption, or

at least four of those seven.

Finally got my copy!!! Installing as we speak.

Actually ordered a copy yesterday from another country, since I couldn't find a copy here anywhere. They mailed it the same day, but today it finally appeared in stores here... So I couldn't resist and now I have 2 copies... :D

My copy got delivered today and I went on to play. There's a learning curve which could be a little challenging. Spent some time playing the tutorial trying to land the plane but still can't :( After several attempts I just went on to play the first mission. Love the cut scene, very nicely done!
