Note #3: Some people have reported that they were not able to load their BioShock 2 main game saves after installing this DLC. Make sure to install the DLC once you get all the offline trophies in the main BioShock 2 game. If you have installed the DLC and are facing this problem, simply uninstall it from the Game Data on the XMB before loading the game's save. (Thanks to Trig28 for the info!)

 

Welcome to my Protector Trials Walkthrough! In this guide, I shall discuss each Trial in grueling detail and explain each tip in getting that A (or A+) in all the Trials!

 

There are 18 Protector Trials in the DLC, in addition 6 bonus Trials. Each Trial has a grade that are assigned in accordance with how much ADAM the Little Sister has gathered by the end of the Trial. The grades are A+, A, B, C and D. Trophy-wise, you need a minimum of A in all the main Trials, and at least ONE A+ in any Trial (including bonus ones). The "stars" are awarded for completion only.

 

In each Trial, you have have predetermined weapons/Plasmids (sometimes tonics). So you need a 'separate' and individualized approach for each Trial.

 

There are six maps in this DLC. Each Map has three Trials, in addition to one bonus Trial each. The maps are:

 

  1. The Adonis Baths
  2. Atlantic Express Train Upkeep
  3. Pauper’s Drop Market
  4. Simon Wales’ Church
  5. Folly of Dionysus
  6. Persephone Cellblock F

 

Each Trial is repeatable. Some are very easy and some are challenging. Once completed, you will unlock "Bonus Trials." These are rather easy, and there will be one for each map, accessible via the Trial menu.

 

Though you are more than welcome to take your own approach, my guide, I believe, provides the easiest way to get A. Also, I know that many people might not need this walkthrough but I'm providing it anyway in case someone is stuck. While criticism is welcome, please use CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not "meh no one needs this guide," because I worked really hard for it. :cool:

 

But more importantly, try to figure out the Trials on your own! That is the fun in this DLC - to figure it all out for yourself! In fact, even though I worked hard on this guide, I strongly advice NOT to use it unless you're stuck at a certain Trial! :)

 

Before you begin, here are some general tips:

 

  1. ALWAYS start by hacking the vending machines and the Health Stations. Once hacked, the Health Stations will turn into a trap for any Splicer who goes there to regenerates health, killing him instantly (Thanks to Rickmay for the tip!) (alternatively, you can destroy the Health Station for a free First Aid Kit).
  2. Always stay at a vantage point near the Sister, and hit any enemy that attacks her.
  3. Study your surroundings before the Gather, and set up the Traps accordingly (if you have them), at entrances and also around the corpse the Little Sister gathers from.
  4. Some Plasmids work even better in combination with other Plasmids. So, take note of the Plasmids you’re assigned, as some can be combined (i.e. Cyclone Traps + Electro Bolt)
  5. Make sure to run to the Circus of Values and re-supply, also leaving a temporary protection for the Little Sister behind as you run (i.e. set up a trap or a Decoy).
  6. Sometimes, you are assigned more than one type of ammo per weapon; make sure to keep the weaker ammo for the weaker enemies and the stronger ammo for the stronger enemies.
  7. Decoy and Hypnotize are the best Plasmids there are, as they will ALMOST always distract the Splicers from the Little Sister and you.
  8. Take advantage of some of your surroundings. For example, spilled gasoline can be ignited, and water can be electrocuted, thereby maximizing the damage.
  9. Finally, though there will be various enemies in each Trials, only the Thuggish Splicers and Leadhead Splicers go after the Little Sisters, so keep that in mind! Other enemies (Houdini Splicer, Alpha Series.. etc) target YOU specifically (or the Decoy!)

This guide is separated by maps. Each map will have a detailed guide for each Trial, including the list of Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics pre-set for the specific Trial.

 

With this said, let's take a look at the guide!

 

The Adonis Baths

 

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Rivet Gun, Shotgun, Machine Gun

+ Plasmids: Incinerate! 1, Electro Bolt 1, Insect Swarm 1

+ Tonics: Armored Shell

 

This is your very first Trial. There is really nothing special here; it’s just your standard Protector Trial. First, you should go to the left hand side of the area, and also hacking the Health Station. Go to the other side, hack the Circus of Values and El Ammo Bandito machines.

 

Now, grab the Little Sister, take her to the body and let her start the Grab. As soon as it starts, position yourself and crouch in the corner just by the Little Sister, as it’s an excellent vantage point. Use the Machine gun for long distance, Rivet for midrange and shotgun for close encounters.

 

Your Plasmid of choice here is the Electro Bolt, as it can: a) Stun the enemies, especially if they’re close to the Little Sister, b) can inflict a great damage and c) you can electrify the water at the bottom of the pool, as some Splicers usually jump there and then up towards you or the Little Sister, causing the water and electricity to kill them instantly. Feel free to use the Insect Swarm Plasmid too, as it is "viral" (i.e. it will swarm many enemies near your target enemy). As soon as she is finished – immediately pick her up and you’re done.

 

Don’t forget to take a quick run to the Circus of Values and/or El Ammo Bandito to resupply whenever you’re low on ammo/health/EVE.

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapons: Drill, Rivet Gun

+ Plasmids: Electro Bolt 1, Decoy 2

 

Now you’ll have to be a bit more tactical. As with the first Trial, hack the Health Station, the Circus of Values and El Ammo Bandito machines. This one is so easy you might as well get the “Perfect Protector” trophy right here.

 

But before you grab the Little Sister, you’ll notice that your Rivet Gun has two types of ammo; Rivet and Trap Rivet. Put down some Trap Rivets around the Little Sister herself, and at the entry points, and anywhere you may deem tactical. Your Plasmid of choice here is the Decoy 2, as it distracts the Splicers from the Little Sister AND you, leaving them vulnerable. Also, unlike Decoy 1, Decoy 2 can reflect some damage onto the Splicers.

 

Now, take the Little Sister and let her perform a Gather. As with the first Trial, position yourself and crouch at the nearest corner by the Little Sister. As soon as it starts, employ your Decoy at midrange so that you can attack the Splicers, and prep your Electro Bolt. Use it in the same manner as the first Trial (i.e. either electrifying them directly or the water nearby). The Trap Rivets will fend off the first wave of enemies and eliminate many of them. Keep employing the Decoy as soon as it disappears. However, it only works four out of five times or so; some Splicers will ignore the Decoy and run straight for the sister. I suggest you use the Drill to fend them off here, as the Drill is a truly powerful weapon.

 

As in the first time, make a quick run for the Circus of Values or El Ammo Bandito to resupply, but before you do, make sure to re-deploy the Decoy as it will distract the enemies as you make a run for the machines.

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: Shotgun, Speargun

+ Plasmids: Hypnotize 1

 

The 3rd Trial is where it becomes even more tactical – you have only 2 weapons and 1 Plasmid. Your prowess and tenacity are more important than your shooter skills.

 

As with the first two Trials, hack the Circus of Values, El Ammo Bandito and the Health Station. Now, you’ll notice that this time, you have Speargun with 10 Spear Traps as ammo. Also, you’ll notice that the pool is surrounded by pillars. Build a spear trap between each pillar, at the entrances, as well as any location you deem tactical. Your weapon of choice here is the Shotgun, keep it only for close encounters; 00 Bucks for the generic Splicers, Phosphorous Buck for the Brute Splicers. Your (only) Plasmid of Choice here is Hypnotize 1; like the Enrage Plasmid in BioShock 1, Hypnotize 1 makes the Splicers attack other Splicers, so use them whenever you spot a Splicer.

 

Now, start the Gather and position yourself in the corner. The Spear Traps will fend off a lot of the first wave of enemies. Equip the Hypnotize 1 Plasmid and the Shotgun. Whenever you spot a Splicer in your view, hurl the Hypnotize Plasmid at him. Also, equip your shotgun in case a Splicer approaches the Little Sister or you. As stated, keep the 00 Buck for the generic Splicer, and Phosphorous Buck for the Brute Splicer. You will need your shotgun as the Hyptonize works most, but not all, the time. As soon as the Little Sister completes her Gather, grab her and the Trial is done.

 

Again, run to the Circus of Values or El Ammo bandito to resupply if you’re low on supply.

Atlantic Express Train Upkeep

 

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Machine Gun, Hack Tool.

+ Plasmids: Security Command 2

+ Tonic: Handyman

 

Welcome to the first Trial of the second map! The layout here is different; Circus of Values is just nearby the corpse, but El Ammo Bandito is on the second floor. Also, there are two First Aid Stations; one on the first floor, and the other on the top floor, so hack both of them. Exclusive to this Trial only is the Turret on the second floor, hack that as well before you begin.

 

Also, before you pick up the Little Sister, you’ll notice that your Hack Tool has 3 Mini-Turrets. Deploy them around the corpse. Now take the Little Sister and let her perform the Gather. Your weapon of choice here is the Machine Gun, and your (only) Plasmid of choice is Security Command 2 as it summons Security Bots.

 

As soon as the Gather commences, equip the Security Command Plasmid and press and HOLD L2 to summon the Security Bots. Keep summoning them throughout the Gather. The Bots, along with the Turret upstairs and the Mini-Turrets around the corpse, will greatly damage, if not kill, the Splicers. Their health will become lower if they don’t die, so you can finish them off with your Machine Gun. This time, there are TWO powerful enemies in addition to the Splicers; Brute Splicers AND Alpha Series (one only, at the end). Use the Security Command and summon the Bots, also keep attack them as much as you can. Usually, when the Security Bots hit them, they will focus their hits on it, this making them vulnerable to you. Take advantage of that.

 

To resupply, I suggest you simply run to Circus of Values, as going to El Ammo Bandito might take a while, but you can go ahead and try; El Ammo Bandito also has mini-Turrets for sale if you so choose, though I managed to do without them.

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapons: Rivet Gun, Grenade Launcher, Spear Gun

+ Plasmids: Cyclone Trap 2, Decoy 2, Electro Bolt 1

+ Tonics: Armored Shell

 

Good news and bad news here. The good news is that this particular Trial provides a wide and very generous assortment of traps. Bad news? That’s it, it’s only traps; no ammo at all! So you’ll have to make do with them and the Plasmids.

 

As with the first Trial, hack the Health Station and the vending machines. There is no ‘weapon of choice’ nor a ‘Plasmid of Choice’ as you have to joggle between all of them in an appropriate rotation.

 

Set up the traps before you begin the trial. There are three “waves” of traps you have to set up here. First thing to do is to deploy a few Cyclone Traps around the corpse, then ELECTRIFY the Cyclone Traps to make them extra-powerful. These traps will take out the generic Splicers almost instantly. Next step is to set up the Spear Traps at the entrances and also the bridge over the broken train. Finally, step up the Trap Rivets all over the map in the places you deem powerful. You can choose to keep a few of them for personal use later. You’ll also notice that you have 3 Frag Mines; keep those for the Brute Splicer and/or the Alpha Series when they arrive.

 

Now, take the Little Sister and let her perform the Gather. The trick here is to distract the enemies from you and the Little Sister as much as you can. As soon as it starts, the Spear Traps and Trap Rivets will take out a lot of the first wave of enemies. Use Decoy continually to distract the Splicers from you and the Little Sister. This time you can’t make it without resupplying, so fill up on your EVE Hypo and First Aid kits from the Circus of Value. Use the Decoy to distract the Splicers as you re-set up the “Electro-Cyclone Traps.” Keep distracting them this way, and prep your Grenade Launcher for when the Brute Splicer or the Alpha Series show up. Don’t be afraid to use the Grenade Launcher as melee (with the circle button). Don’t worry - the Little Sister will not be affected even if the Frag Mine blows up in her face!

 

As soon as the Gather ends, pick her up immediately.

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: Drill

+ Plasmids: Insect Swarm 1

+ Tonics: Amored Shell, Drill Vampire, Drill Power

 

As you can see, this Trial severely narrows your supply down. But don’t despair – it is actually much easier than it seems. Again, hack the Health Stations the Circus of Values. Don’t even bother with El Ammo Bandito as it only has Drill Fuel, which the Circus of Values also has (and at a cheaper price, too!).

 

Now, you have to make do with one weapon and one Plasmid only. But the silver lining lies in the Tonics; they make your Drill extremely powerful and also drain health from Splicers. They kill the almost instantly, so don’t be afraid to use it. Even the melee hit with the Circle button is powerful.

 

Now, just let the Little Sister perform the Trial. There is not much to do here but to deploy the Insect Swarm at faraway enemies (especially those with guns) and keep the drill for close encounters. The Armored Shell gives you added protection, which is very effective as you’ll have to do a lot of close encounters. Stay close to the Little Sister and fend off all enemies approaching her. If you need to resupply, make it very quick when no Splicer is near the Sister.

 

As soon as the Gather ends, pick her up and you’re done!

Pauper's Drop Market

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Rivet Gun, Speargun, Shotgun

+ Plasmids: Cyclone Trap 1, Decoy 2

+ Tonics: Fountain of Youth, Head Hunter

 

This is the third map, out of six. This particular Trial is an easy mix of shooting, tactic and strategy. As with all Trials, hack the Health Station and the vending machines.

 

Your weapons of choice here are Speargun for the generic Splicers, and Rivet Gun or Shotgun for the more powerful ones. You’ll notice that your Rivet Gun and Shotgun are pre-equipped with powerful ammo; Heavy Rivet and Solid Slug, respectively. Your Speargun has basic ammo, but it kills the weaker Splicers instantly. Your Plasmid of Choice here is Decoy 2. As with previous use of Decoy, it simply serves to distract the enemies from you and the Little Sister as she performs the Gather. It also makes them vulnerable. You’ll notice, too, that you have the Fountain of Youth Tonic, which increases your health and EVE in water (there is some water nearby Circus of Values, but I managed to do without it just as well). Also, the Head Hunter Tonic makes headshots even more powerful, but the Spears are powerful enough to kill the weaker Splicers with one shot. Try to kill the Brute Splicer with Rivet Gun and a headshot to maximize the damage, and use the Shotgun when they’re very close as you only have a few Solid Slug ammo.

 

Start off the Trial by setting up Cyclone Traps around the corpse. Now, bring the Little Sister and let her perform the Gather. Now, go to the right-hand side corner of the Vent and crouch there, as it’s an excellent vantage point (Alternatively, you can stand in the water to resupply EVE for infinite Plasmid use, and make that your vantage point, though I personally managed to do it without that). Deploy the Decoy to distract the Splicers, and take them out with the Spear Gun. Try to re-set up the Cyclone Traps once they’ve been used up as well while the Splicers are distracted. You only need to resupply from the Circus of Values this time. Again, deploy the Decoy right before you make a run for the Circus of Values. Keep using the Decoy, and keep killing the enemies with the appropriate weapons.

 

As soon as the Gather is complete, pick up the Little Sister immediately and the Trial is over.

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapons: Machine Gun, Hack Tool

+ Plasmids: Incinerate! 2, Winter Blast 2

+ Tonics: Ice Storm

 

This one is rather easy. Again, it’s a mix of tactical trapping and good ole’-fashioned protecting. However, you’ll need to resupply from BOTH Circus of Values and El Ammo Bandito, so hack both, along with, of course, the Health Station.

 

In this Trial you will both continual use of traps and weapons. Your weapon of choice here is the Machine Gun, and your Plasmid of choice is Winter Blast 2. Also, the Ice Storm Tonic inflicts ice damage on enemies attacking you with melee, sometimes freezing them. This is particularly useful to immediately stop the Splicers as soon as they attack the Little Sister. Try to combine both Winter Blast 2 and the Machine Gun. Freeze your enemies (or hold L2 before that for extra damage) then take them out, but distribute the ammo accordingly; .50 Caliber Rounds for weaker enemies, and Anti-Personnel Rounds for the more powerful enemies. Though Incinerate 2 is an available Plasmid, it is almost useless.

 

This particular Gather is easy. First, equip your Hack Tool and set up the four Mini-Turrets around the corpse, then let the Little Sister perform the Gather. Go sit in the corner on the right side of the Vent. Keep attacking enemies with both Winter Blast and the Machine Gun. Make sure to resupply from the Circus of Values, and whenever you’re down to one Mini-Turret, go to El Ammo Bandito and buy more, then re-deploy them around the Little Sister. Keep fending off the enemies; again, freeze all your enemies before attacking them with Machine Guns, but use .50 Caliber for weaker enemies, and Anti-Personnel Round for the more powerful ones.

 

As soon as the Gather is complete, pick her up and the Trial is over!

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: Drill, Hack Tool

+ Plasmids: Insect Swarm 2, Security Command 2

 

This is yet another Trial that will depend greatly on Security resources for proper completion. Like all other Trials, hack the vending machines and the Health Station.

 

You have a little but very powerful assortment of weapons and Plasmids. Your weapon of choice here is the Drill for close encounters. As for the Plasmids, you’ll have to use both of them. With Security Command 2, press and HOLD L2 to deploy Security Bots, and use Insect Swarm to attack enemies far away from you. The good thing about Insect Swarm 2 is that it can attack multiple enemies, and is ‘viral’ too; meaning, that if a Splicer comes near another Splicer who is being swarmed will also be swarmed as well. That, coupled with your Drill and Mini-Turrets, will make you far too powerful, so enjoy the ride.

 

First things first. Set up the two Mini-Turrets, then let the Little Sister perform her Gather. Stand close, but not too close, to the Little Sister, that you may protect her with the Drill if an enemy approaches. Keep deploying the Security Plasmid for added power, and use the Insect Swarm at far away locations, so they’ll be ‘softened up’ once they approach and will be taken out immediately with a single hit (well, a single drill). Also, a little piece of advice here is that as soon as you make some money, go to El Ammo Bandito and buy more Mini-Turrets (it’ll be your only trip there). Set them up around the Little Sister. Go back to staying in close proximity to the Little Sister and drill off any enemy who might hurt her. Again, keep summoning Security Plasmids to come to your service, and don’t forget to re-supply from the Circus of Values intermittently (it has First aid Kit, EVE Hypo and Drill Fuel).

 

Once the Gather is complete, pick her up and you’re half-way done with the Trials!

Simon Wales’ Church

 

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Drill, Grenade Launcher

+ Plasmids: Telekinesis 2, Decoy 2

 

This is perhaps one of the easiest Trials in the game. You will have Decoy and a Grenade Launcher. You are pretty much set!

 

First order of business – hack the vending machines and the Health Station. El Ammo Bandito offers a wide variety of ammo but you’ll do fine with the Frag Grenades and the Drill Fuel, both of which are available at the Circus of Values. Your weapons of choice are the Grenade Launcher for midrange, and the Drill for close encounters. Your Plasmid of choice is, of course, Decoy 2.

 

Now set up your parameters. First, equip the Grenade Launcher and deploy some Proximity Mines on the first floor, and make sure to save the last one to put it on the corpse (don’t worry, it won’t blow up nor hurt the Little Sister, until a Splicer approaches). Near the body you’ll see a ‘Control Panel’ of some sort, and it has an imprint of a giant butterfly (it’s hard to miss). Right behind that control panel is your vantage point.

 

Now, take the Little Sister to the corpse and go behind the control panel. From that vantage point, the enemies will spawn a) before you but all the way across the hall (the ones upstairs will jump down) and b) from your right-hand side. The deployed Proximity Mines will kill some of the first wave. Now, deploy the Decoy 2 right in the main area close to the Little Sister. As soon as the Splicers approach her or surround the Decoy, fire a Frag Grenades, and watch them blow into pieces, as you can kill 2-3 Splicers with one Frag grenade. Keep re-deploying the Decoy and keep using the Frag, and make sure to kill off the Splicers coming from the Right Side (there are also a few tanks and oil barrels scattered throughout, you can use Telekinesis with them if you so choose, though I managed just fine without them). Save the heat-seeking missiles for Brute Splicers.

 

Once again, as soon as you’re done, rush to her and pick her up.

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapon: Speargun, Hack Tool

+ Plasmids: Hypnotize 1

 

It does not get any easier than this. With the Traps at your disposal and hypnotism within your control, there is no reason not to even get A+ in this Trial! Indeed, this is one of the few Trials where your enemies are also your weapons.

 

First, set up your parameters. Hack BOTH vending machines and the Health Station. Now, deploy the two Mini-Turrets around the corpse. Also, set up Spear Traps between facing walls and pillars, in 3 directions from the corpse (all except the “Control Panel” side). Now, go behind the Control Panel and have a few (i.e. more than one!) set up inside the “entrance” on your right hand side, as a few enemies might spawn from there. With this orchestra of traps before you, you may now begin your performance. Take the Little Sister and let her start her Gather.

 

Prep your equipment, sit back and enjoy the spectacle. Here, you only need the Hypnotize 1 Plasmid. Whenever you see a Splicer, hurl that Plasmid at him and watch him kill the other Splicers. Also, if someone even comes close to the Little Sister, throw the Hypnotize Plasmid at him. He will step back and joins the mayhem in killing other Splicers. Make sure to Hypnotize the Brute Splicer as, honestly, he makes a better protector under the hypnosis than you. One last thing: once you kill off the first wave of enemies, you can facilitate this Trial even more by going upstairs quickly and buying four Mini-Turrets. Go back and deploy them around the Little Sister.

 

It’s smooth sailing from here on. The Little Sister will hum and gather her ADAM, the Splicers will continue slitting each others’ throats, while the Turrets will polish off the leftovers, and you should just sit back and enjoy the ride. Keep the Spectacle going by continually deploying Hypnotize.

 

As soon as the Trial is over, there will be almost no Splicer left. Go up to the Little Sister, pick her up and ta-da! Trial is done.

 

Just make sure to also go to the Circus of Values every now and then to resupply your EVE Hypo.

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: Machine Gun

+ Plasmids: Cyclone Trap 2, Incinerate! 2

+ Tonics: Fire Storm

 

This one is challenging, but that is only fair, seeing that the last two were easy. In this particular one, you will be ambushed by Splicers, and some might block your way when the Little Sister is attacked by other Splicers, thereby minimizing the multiplier.

 

You should use your supplies wisely. Your (only) weapon of choice is the Machine Gun. Make sure to use the .50 Caliber Round for the weaker enemies and the Anti-Personnel Round for the stronger ones. Your Plasmid of choice here is Incinerate! 2. Make sure to burn your targets before you hit them. One last thing: combining Cyclone Traps with Incinerate creates a very powerful trap. As soon as a Splicer steps on it, like rockets he will literally burst (or maybe “launch”) into flames!

 

Now set up your parameters. First, hack both vending machines and the Health Station. Then, deploy the Cyclone Traps all throughout and INCINERATE them. Make sure you have some scattered across the map, six around the corpse AND a few on the bridge above the corpse AND at the entrance by the “Control Panel.” Once you feel your parameter is solid, you may begin.

 

Start your Gather and prepare for the onslaught. Let the Little Sister gather while you go back to your vantage point. The enemies will start spawning, but if you have deployed your traps wisely, you should kill off a few Splicers. Stay in constant motion, keep burning then killing enemies. And as soon as a Splicer even touches the Little Sister, fend them off either with Incinerate or Cyclone Traps (preferably Incinerate since it’s easier to target with). Every once in a while, a Leadhead Splicer will spawn on the bridge, he will start shooting you with the machine gun. Make sure to also incinerate him and kill him off. Feel free to re-set up some traps if the coast is clear, and make quick trips to the Circus of Values whenever you’re low on health, EVE or ammo.

 

As soon as the Trial is done, quickly run to the Little Sister and the Trial is over!

Folly of Dionysus

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Machine gun, Grenade Launcher

+ Plasmids: Electro Bolt 2, Incinerate! 2

 

This one is not as difficult as it may seem. There is a lot of water and gasoline spilled throughout so you can use your Electro Bolt and Incinerate on them, respectively, to maximize the damage. Also, your weapons are very powerful anyhow so this should be a cakewalk. Your vending machine of choice should be the Circus of Values, as it has Frag grenades and ammo for the Machine Gun.

 

There isn’t a lot to set up here. First, as usual, hack both vending machines and the Health Station, but this time, keep the Proximity Mines. Your weapon of choice here is the Machine Gun (or the Grenade Launcher with Frag to take out enemies who are close to the Little Sister. Remember, close explosion will damage you as well, so keep the Machine Gun for close encounters and the Grenade Launcher to blast away any Splicer harming the Little Sister). Your Plasmid of choice is Incinerate. In fact, for the whole Trial I never used Electro Bolt even once. Finally, your vantage point should be smack in the middle of the broken carousel. There is a very small booth there that has all sides surrounded except, well, the entrance, so use that to your advantage. And right before you there will be spilled gasoline so you can burn it every now and then for maximum damage

 

Let the Gather commence. First, let the Little Sister perform the Gather, and throw ONE proximity mine on the corpse. Now, fend off the Splicers with the Incinerate Plasmid and the Machine Gun, both the ones attacking you and the ones running for the Little Sister. Whenever the Proximity Mine on the corpse explode, redeploy it. Also, make sure to deploy one on it right before you make a run for Circus of Values, to provide temporary protection for the Little Sister whenever you need to resupply from the Circus of Values.

 

Keep this tactic on, and you should be done in no time.

 

As soon as the Gather is complete, pick her up and you’ll have finished the Trial!

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapons: Rivet Gun, Shotgun, Speargun

+ Plasmids: Decoy 2, Hypnotize 1

 

This is even easier than the first one, because now you have both Decoy 2 AND Hypnotize 1, arguably two of the best Plasmids to use in the Protector Trials. Your weapon of choice here is, thus, your enemies (but keep the shotgun for the Spider Splicers!) and your Plasmids of choice and both Hypnotize 1 and Decoy 2.

 

Set up your parameters. First, hack the Circus of Values and the Health Station. Next, pick up the Little Sister. Now, set up your traps: set up the Spear Trap in the area around the carousel, deploy a few Trap Rivets in the area above the Circus of Values and around the corpse, then let the Little Sister perform the Gather.

 

As soon as the Gather begins, retreat to the vantage point in the middle of the carousel. From there, use the Decoy 2 and deploy it in front of you (for added protection). Make sure to Hypnotize whatever Splicer comes in your sight. Also, if any Splicer touches the Little Sister, simply through a Hypnotize Plasmid at them and they will step back and join the carnage in killing other Splicers. Keep deploying the Decoy Plasmid in front of you from the vantage point every time the Decoy dissipates. Keep a good eye on your EVE! Since you will be using your Plasmids all throughout, it’s easy to forget about the EVE and then you’ll run out. Make sure, whenever you’re low on EVE, to deploy your Decoy and make a run for the Circus of Values to resupply.

 

Keep this tactic and you should be done in no time.

 

As soon as the Little Sister finishes the Gather, pick her up to end the Trial!

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: None

+ Plasmids: Electro Bolt 3, Incinerate! 3, Cyclone Trap 3, Decoy 3

+ Tonics: Elemental Vampire, Elemental Sponge, Fountain of Youth, Elemental Storm

 

This is arguably one of the hardest Trials in the game. For starters, as you can see, you have no weapons at all! And to add insult to injury, the Splicers will not leave money when killed, so there is no point in even hacking the Vending Machine. You’ll have only 3 First Aid Kits and 3 EVE Hypos. And for the whole Trial you will rely only on Plasmids (you might have picked that from the bizarrely long EVE bar on top of the screen!). Lucky for you, however, all of your Plasmids are at level 3, including Decoy. Further, you have some nice Tonics that could facilitate your Trial. With my guide, you could easily get an A in this Trial!

 

Though you have a wide range of Plasmids, your Plasmids of choice should be Incinerate 3 and Decoy 3. In fact, avoid the Electro Bolt altogether! It will work against you (you’ll see why)!

 

First, set up your parameters. You need to deploy quite a few Cyclone Traps around the map and Incinerate them. You have Cyclone Trap 3, which means you can also deploy Traps diagonally, so deploy a few at entrances. Also, deploy a few around the corpse.

 

Before you begin, however, you need to understand the mechanism of your Plasmids and Tonics. With regards to Plasmids, Incinerate 3, Electro Bolt 3 and Cyclone Trap 3 are simply more powerful, with Incinerate 3 even increasing in power if you hold L2. Further, Decoy 3 is a godsend. In addition to distracting the Splicers AND reflecting some of their attacks, it will also restore your an amount of Health proportionate to the damage reflected onto the Splicer. As for the Tonics, your best friend here is Fountain of Youth. When you stand on water, it will slowly but surely regenerate your Health and EVE, and if you maintain your position on the water, you’ll have yourself pretty much an infinite amount of EVE, which in turn gives you access to use your Plasmids as much as you like. Elemental Vampire make your Plasmids (Incinerate!, namely) also drain health upon contact. Elemental Sponge and Elemental Storm are pretty much useless (but if you’re curious, one regains EVE when you’re attacked elementally, and the other can “deflect” with a random Element (Fire, Electricity or Ice) upon melee contact by the enemy).

 

Your vantage point, this time, will be the water pond (where the Health Station is), NOT the middle of the carousel. Reasons are: a) with Fountain of Youth Tonic, you’ll have unlimited EVE, and your health will also regenerate, albeit slowly. Also, this is another reason I strongly suggest AGAINST Electro Bolt 3; the scale is too wide and it’s too powerful that you will most likely electrocute the water beneath you and greatly damage your health!

 

With this in mind, and your traps deployed, take a deep breath and begin your Trial. Having positioned yourself on the water, what you’ll first do is deploy the Decoy Plasmid right in front of you! It will be visible to everyone, and it will provide a shell and protection against the attacks, and simultaneously regenerates your health with every attack, in addition to the water you’re standing on. Whenever a Splicer approaches the Little Sister, just hurl Incinerate at them and they’ll step back and attack the Decoy. (Remember, Incinerate at a higher level is viral, and will burn other enemies upon contact, but it won’t burn you since, well, you’ll be in water!). Keep on going, “renew” your Decoy and keep burning any Splicer that approaches the Little Sister. With perseverance and luck, you’ll survive this Trial.

 

Again, once completed, return to the Little Sister and pick her up immediately, and you’ll have completed not only one of the hardest Trials, but also 5 out of the six maps!

Persephone Cellblock F

 

 

Trial #1

+ Weapons: Grenade Launcher, Hack Tool

+ Plasmids: Incinerate! 2, Telekinesis 2

+ Tonics: Armored Shell 2

 

This is the first Trial of the final Map, so rejoice! This one’s difficulty is medium; meaning, while it is not too difficult, it can be challenging and frustrating at times. This particular Trial involves direct confrontations with the enemies, and like the second map, the Alpha Series (or two of them!) will make an appearance towards the end of the Trial.

 

Like every time, preparation is key. In addition to hacking the Circus of Values, El Ammo Bandito, there are also TWO Health Stations that you should hack (also, Zallera pointed out that there is a Turret above El Ammo Bandito that you can hack with Distant Hacking). In this Trial, your weapon of choice is the Grenade Launcher, and your Plasmid of choice is Incinerate.

 

It’s time to be tactical again. Do not waste your Proximity Mines, just deploy one at the corpse. Also, position yourself near the Heath Station on the first floor, as it is a good vantage point. Equip your Incinerate Plasmid and your Grenade Launcher (with Frag bombs). Incinerate by itself is a powerful weapon, especially after holding L2. Leadhead Splicers will hurt nitrate bombs at you. With incinerate, you can set them on fire AND blow up their bomb (Telekinesis is also powerful, but it can last for only so long since you’ll run out of objects to grab so just stick to Incinerate). You need to alternate between Incinerate and the Grenade Launcher accordingly, and make sure to incinerate the Splicers shooting at you from a distance, as they won’t stop shooting until you attack them. Use Incinerate for individual Splicers, and the Frag for a group of Splicers gathered together, and also the Brute Splicers (after you incinerate them). Whenever you need to run to the Circus of Values, make sure to deploy a Proximity Mine near the Little Sister for temporary protection as you go and resupply on health, EVE and Frag ammo. Save the Heat-seeking Missiles for the Alpha Series (again, incinerate them before shooting them). Maintain this tactic and you’ll survive.

 

Again, as soon as the Gather is over, run to the Little Sister and pick her up.

 

 

Trial #2

+ Weapons: Drill, Shotgun

+ Plasmids: Winter Blast 2, Cyclone Trap 2

+ Tonics: Armored Shell, Freezing Drill, Ice Storm

 

This one has the same difficulty level as before. However, this time you have some traps at your disposal.

 

Again, the key to success is preparation. Like before, hack the vending machines and both Health Stations. Set up some Cyclone Traps and freeze them with Winter Blast. Make sure you put a few around the map; at the stairs, at the entrances and five or so around the corpse. Don’t worry if you run of EVE; after killing the first wave of Splicers with your trap, you’ll have enough money to restock. Your weapon of choice is the shotgun (use the drill only to fend off enemies jumping at you). Your Plasmid of Choice is, obviously, Winter Blast 2. It’s not that powerful if you hold L2 so don’t bother; save it for the Alpha Series.

 

Now, pick up the Little Sister and let her perform the Gather. As soon as she starts, stay near but at a vantage point. Freeze and shoot the weaker Splicers with shotgun. Try to reset some traps every once in a while around the Little Sister (you won’t have time to freeze them if you want to survive the onslaught). Use cyclone or freeze any enemy that tries to grab her. Once again, keep the Drill for VERY close encounters (i.e. when you’re swarmed). While fighting off the Splicers, make sure to redeploy some Cyclones around the Little Sister and also try to freeze any enemy that is shooting at you from a distance. Redeploy the Cyclones again before you make a run for the Circus of Values to resupply (for ammo, it has Drill Fuel and Shotgun ammo, which is enough for this Trial). When it boils down to Alpha Series, make sure to hold L2 before you freeze them, and use all your weapons and ammo (Shotgun and Drill), refreeze and continue the slaughter, and they’ll be dead in no time.

 

Make sure to resupply even once the Sister have performed the Gather, as there will be enemies left (powerful ones) who might kill you as you make a run for the Little Sister. Try to freeze the ones nearby, however, and then go for the Little Sister.

 

And voila, you’re done, you have one Trial left! Yay!

 

 

Trial #3

+ Weapons: Rivet Gun, Speargun

+ Plasmids: Electro Bolt 2, Decoy 2

+ Tonics: Armored Shell, Head Hunter, EVE Link, EVE Expert

 

This is your final Trial. Admittedly, it is a difficult one, but the difficulty does not lie in your loadout nor the power of the Splicers, but the fact that, even with Decoy, A LOT of Splicers will go for the Little Sister, so stay vigilant!

There is little preparation involved. As usual, hack both vending machines and both Health Stations. In this Trial your weapon of choice is the Speargun, and your Plasmid of choice is Decoy 2. Your vantage point will be behind the worn-out couch right by the corpse.

 

Now, put the Little Sister to perform her Gather and position yourself behind that couch. Immediately, deploy the Decoy Plasmid. However, deploy it near but NOT on the corpse! The problem is that a lot of Splicers will swarm over the Decoy; as such, if you have it over the corpse and the Little Sister screams for help, it might be a bit difficult to see who’s attacking her. Now, as soon as someone approaches her, you can a) fire two spears at them, effectively killing them or 2) use the electro Plasmid to stun them and stop them from grabbing the Little Sister. You have the Head Hunter Tonic equipped, but unless you’re a professional shooter who can instantly get headshots, I suggest that you just shoot at the Splicer attacking the Little Sister two or three times.

 

Maintain this tactic, continually deploying the Decoy, and also try to kill a few Splicers to get money to restock on ammo, EVE and health. Make sure to deploy the Decoy again to add some protection for the Little Sister if you decide to make a run for the Circus of Values.

 

Once you’re done, there will probably be a few more Splicers. Distract them with the Decoy Plasmid one last time and run for the Little Sister, as their swarm might kill you just before you reach her. Once you do, sit back and enjoy a few trophies that will pop!

Bonus Trials

(unlocked after completed all the core Trials)

 

Once you complete all Trials, the Bonus Trials will become available. There will be 6 bonus Trials, one under each map, accessible via the Trial menu.

 

Here is where you’ll go nuts! This is the easiest and arguably most enjoyable trials in the game! Each map has one Bonus Trial accessible via the Trial list. This is extremely fun! Why, you ask? Because you will have at your disposal every weapon and Plasmid in BioShock 2, ALL fully upgraded! Not just that, at the Gene Bank (yes, it becomes available during the Bonus Trials!) you can even get the Summon Eleanor Plasmid! It really does not get any better than this.

 

There is no requirement to get “A,” just that you pass the each Bonus Trial, though you can also aim to get the Perfect Protector Plasmid at the first Bonus Trial, since everything will be available.

 

With the wide assortment of weapons and Plasmids, you can pretty much set out any course of action you want, but you may also follow this simple steps for ALL the Trials:

  1. Hack the vending machines and destroy the Health Station(s)
  2. Go to the Gene Bank and replace Incinerate! 3 with “Summon Eleanor.” Also, get the EVE Saver (and EVE Saver 2) Tonics, in addition to the Deadly Machines Tonic.
  3. Set out Trap Rivets all throughout the map, and one Mini-Turret nearby the corpse.
  4. Use the Security Command 3 Plasmid, three or four times (by holding L2), and also summon Elearnor.
  5. Equip the Shotgun, and let the Little Sister perform the Gather and shoot anyone trying to get close to her.
  6. Enjoy the ride!

Great Guide. I totally agree with smashing the health stations, I've had less than a dozen splicers kill themselves with the hacked health station over the first 15 trials.

 

Wish they had a hard or survivor setting for these trials tho.

 

Edit: just did the first trial in Persephone Cellblock F The remote hack tool is for the turret on the ledge above the ammo bandito machine. it doesn't last much more than half the fight unless you watch over it, but it makes the trial alot easier

I would give the DLC a difficulty rating of about 3 at most. Regardless they're pretty fun.

 

Precisely. Even though I took the time with the guide, I also said you should try it on your own first because that's where the fun lies - in figuring it all out by yourself; this guide is just for those who get stuck with specific Trials.
