You Sunk My Battleship! Battleship the video game is based on the film of the same name. It combines a naval strategy simulation game with first-person shooter (FPS) gameplay. While playing Battleship you will often switch between typical FPS gameplay and an overview "Battle Command" strategy mini-game which is like playing the classic Hasbro board game. You play as elite E.O.D. specialist Cole Mathis as he and his crew (with help from classic carriers, destroyers and submarines) battle against an alien invasion on and around the Hawaiian islands.

http://i.imgur.com/dLR94J2.png

Step 1: The game has four difficulty settings, you will want to play on Admiral difficulty; it’s the hardest difficulty but it is very simple to say the least. As long as you don’t run head first into large groups of enemies you should only die a few times a chapter, if that much. The game is both short and simple. The game consists of 7 missions each lasting roughly 30-45 minutes long.

Also be on the look out for pegs, they are Battleship's collectables. There are 28 hidden pegs, 4 pegs per level. See the (B)PEGS! trophy description in the trophy guide for a video to all of the pegs, some of them are hidden well. If you prefer a written guide see LordMaceX's collectible guide here.

TIP: To make things easier, start off only using your pistol and KRAW until you have 40 kills (and a trophy) with both of these guns. It’s more efficient to get these kills out of the way early so you can focus on finishing the game with the decent weapons.

On that note, you should also always use your support weapons as well. Support trophies will need to be grinded after you finish the campaign so use them as liberally as you can to shorten the inevitable grind. You should always keep your Battleships in support positions. Remember all support actions are called in by using the D-Pad; either  :right:  or :left:

During this step should unlock the following trophies:

  • (B)Welcome to the Islands
  • (B)The Dome
  • (B)Infestation
  • (B)Mighty Mo
  • (S)No Man Left Behind
  • (S)Escort
  • (S)The Bigger They Are…
  • (G)Earth’s Hero
  • (G) Navy Distinguished Service
  • (G)Navy Cross
  • (B)Incoming!
  • (B)Extra Credit
  • (B)Bombs away!
  • (B)E.O.D.
  • (B)Officer of the Deck
  • (S)Quick Draw
  • (S)Lawnmower
  • (S)Sharpe Shooter
  • (S) Up Close and Personal
  • (S)High Velocity
  • (B)Fire in the Hole!
  • (S)Oliver Hazard Perry
  • (S)Arleigh Burke
  • (S)Los Angles
  • (S)Tinconderoga
  • (S)Iowa
  • (B)PEGS!

As you are playing though the game, make sure you are focused on getting 40 kills with each weapon and required kill amounts for each Ship or Submarine. As you shoot and kill aliens some will drop “Wild Cards,” these cards are used to upgrade or fix your Battleships. There is also a card to let you manually take control of a Battleship’s guns, always take advantage of these as they come in handy. Control the guns to quickly dispatch the enemy ships. You don’t want to constantly worry about your Battleships and you always want them in support positions ready to give you artillery strikes.

Note: This game does not reset any stats after you die. So if you find a good grinding spot for a particular trophy then by all means go ahead and knock them out. Get your kills or recovers or whatever you’re grinding and kill yourself/let yourself die or restart the checkpoint. Continue on your journey once you’ve satisfied the requirement.

Step 2 Clean Up: Use this step to clean up any trophies you may have missed, skipped or need to grind. Use chapter select and change the difficulty to the easiest setting to make things easier for you. Trophies you may need include:

  • (B)Locked and Loaded
  • (B)Brought a Knife to a Gun Fight?
  • (B)Naval Mastery
  • (B)Down But Not Out!

You’re all but guaranteed to need to grind out these last two trophies

  • (S)Fish In A Barrel &
  • (G) Rain of Fire

Finish up the grinds and congratulate yourself on your new shiny

(P) Trophy.

This trophy unlocks after finishing the final mission of the game and destroying the alien fleet and Mothership.

The final mission is pretty much the same as each of the previous 6 missions. But at the end of this mission you will battle an infinite number of enemies that drop-ship down in groups of 5 until you destroy the Mothership.

[spoiler=02]You destroy the Mothership the same way you destroyed all the other ships. Once The Mothership’s shield is down open your command center with :l2:, move the Big Mo into place and use “Ship Control" to bomb that ship back to wherever it came from.

Occupied all support positions in "Overrun".

To unlock this trophy you will need to occupy all 3 support positions in the third mission “Overrun.” Before you can move your ships to these support positions you must first disable the turret. Disabling the turret is required to complete the level.

As soon as you hold off a major offensive from the enemy and the turret is disabled, move any ships not in a support position to said support positions before you evacuate the island. The trophy will pop as soon as you occupy all 3 positions.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/20C.jpgBrought a Knife to a Gun Fight? (B)

Downed a Thug with the pistol.

Thugs are the big armored guys with knifes for claws. They take a lot of damage. You will have many opportunities to obtain this trophy but the 1st and best chance is at the Thug’s introduction in Mission 3.

You’ll be told to pick up a shotgun, do so but keep your pistol as well. Shorty after receiving your shotty, you will traverse through a few bunker like structures. When you come out on the other side a short cutscene will play introducing you to a single Thug. Shoot the Thug 3 or 4 times with your shotgun and finish him off with your pistol. If you fail or kill the Thug with the shotgun just restart the checkpoint and try again. Simple.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/25D.jpgExtra Credit (B)

Downed 3 or more enemies with one shot from the Railgun.

You will have countless opportunities to obtain this trophy but your first and probably the easiest chance will be right after you first acquire the Railgun in mission 4.

You will be tasked with defending some barrels, it’s a basic sniper mission. Enemies will repel from drop ships and attack the barrels. The second and third drop ships (left side of the map) both drop off 5 enemies at a time. As the the enemies make their way down the hill they will bottleneck down the first mound. You can kill all 5 enemies with a fully charged blast. If you don’t get the trophy after the third ship’s enemies are settled behind cover then simply reload the checkpoint and try again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/8ED.jpgBombs away! (B)

Downed 5 enemies with one support call.

You will have countless opportunities to obtain this trophy while playing through the game. If you somehow don’t have the trophy by the time you finish the game then please see the trophy description for (G)Rain of Fire.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/8B3.jpgE.O.D. (B)

Disarm or plant 20 charges.

This is un-missible as you must disarm or plant charges to continue in the game, most objectives require these actions. You should have this trophy before you reach mission 7.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/509.jpgOfficer of the Deck (B)

Defeated 40 enemy vessels in Ship Control gameplay.

Ship control gameplay is obtained by killing aliens and picking up the “Ship Control” wild card. When you have a Ship Control wild card and one of your Battleships is in range of an enemy Battleship press :l2: to open your command map and select the “Ship Control” wild card. You will now manually control the Battleship’s main guns (with a 200% damage boost) for 20 seconds. This will give you more than enough time destroy the invading ship. Repeat this 40 times.

This trophy is basically un-missiable as you will need to quickly destroy enemy vessels throughout the campaign.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/CE1.jpgLocked and Loaded (B)

Fully outfit a ship with the maximum number of Wild cards available.

To fully max out a Ship’s Wild card slots you will need to pick up and attribute three (3) of any given Wild cards to a Ship’s upgrades. Each ship holds a different number of maximum upgrade slots. This trophy is sort of luck based because Wild cards dropped by enemies are random.

Example: The Big Mo has five (5) upgrade slots so you will need to fill those five slots with 5 different upgrades, and each of those 5 upgrades need to be stacked three times for a total of 15 wild cards attributed to the Battleship. So theoretically to max out the Big Mo you would need:

3 Missile wild cards

3 Torpedo wild cards

3 Radar wild cards

3 Salvage wild cards

3 Leadership wild cards

The ship needs to be maxed out during a single mission. If you were upgrading a ship and it gets sunk then that ship will lose all of its upgrades.

You may get this trophy during your normal playthrough of the game but if not then please see the trophy description for (G)Rain of Fire for how and when to grind this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/73D.jpgFish In A Barrel (S)

Down 40 enemies that are stunned by the LRAD.

This is probably the most annoying trophy in the game. LRADs are the submarine’s support ability (It’s the radar signal on your support menu). It fires a single projectile about the size of a bucket onto the battlefield where you request it. It lets out a small area of electrical current that shocks any enemies around said projectile; it also distracts any enemies in the area.

You need to call in the LRADs near enemies but not on top of them (as it will kill the enemy if it lands on them) so that it shocks the aliens, for the trophy you need to kill 40 aliens that are currently being shocked by a LRAD. Because LRADs attract so much attention from any nearby enemies they don’t last very long so you quickly need to kill any alien being shocked.

If you don’t have this trophy by the time you finish the game then please see the trophy description for (G)Rain of Fire.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/F2E.jpgQuick Draw (S)

Down 40 enemies with the Pistol.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with the pistol. You start the game with only a pistol and it is your secondary weapon for the first few chapters.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/EC7.jpgLawnmower (S)

Down 40 enemies with the KRAW.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with the KRAW. The KRAW is the alien’s default weapon. Every time you kill an alien it drops a KRAW with 300 rounds. The KRAW has a good rate of fire but a terrible reload speed and the worst sights for a gun in video game history. Get your 40 kills with it and be done with it. Only pick it up again when you have no ammo for any of your other guns.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/18A.jpgSharp Shooter (S)

Down 40 enemies with the Carbine.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with the Carbine. The Carbine is the best overall gun in the game and you will kill hundreds of aliens with this puppy. This will be your default weapon starting on mission 2.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/924.jpgUp Close and Personal (S)

Down 40 enemies with the Shotgun.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with the Shotgun. The Shotty is the 2nd best gun in the game and a MUST for fighting Thugs. Basic rule of thumb with this gun is to always have it on you if ammo allows.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/504.jpgHigh Velocity (S)

Down 40 enemies with the Alien Railgun.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with the Railgun. The Railgun is a charge-based sniper rifle and the Alien Commander’s primary weapon of choice. You won’t get a chance to shoot this baby until mission 4. It’s a very good weapon and you will easily exceed the 40 kills before mission 7.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/D2A.jpgFire in the Hole! (S)

Down 40 enemies with Grenades.

Simple, just kill 40 aliens with grenades. You use grenades by pressing :r2: make sure you hold down :r2: to “cook” the grenades so the aliens won’t have a chance to run away from their explosive deaths.

Destroy 20 enemy ships with the USS Yukon.

See (S)Iowa

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/223.jpgIowa (S)

Destroy 20 enemy ships with the USS Missouri.

Throughout the campaign you will be given control of each of the Battleships and Submarines. All of these vessels will be attacked by multiple enemy Battleships.

You can see the heath of each of the ships in the upper left–hand corner of the screen. When your Battleships come under fire they will auto-target and attack one enemy ship at a time. Your Battleships will get overrun and sunk if you don’t use your wild cards to upgrade them and in some cases manually destroy the enemy ships with “ship control.”

So just make sure you’re upgrading your Battleships and using sound Navel strategic tactics. You should get all of the Battleship “destroys” trophies during your normal playthrough. But you may need to go back after you finished the game and grind a few Battleship kills via chapter select. Here is a list of all the missions and what Battleships appear during each mission:

  • Mission 1 = Chesapeake, Adams
  • Mission 2 = Chesapeake, Adams, Laredo
  • Mission 3 = Chesapeake, Adams, Laredo, Yukon
  • Mission 4 = Adams, Laredo, Yukon, Missouri
  • Mission 5 = Adams, Missouri
  • Mission 6 = Missouri (Yukon and Laredo near end of mission)
  • Mission 7 = Laredo, Reagan, Missouri, Chesapeake

Special thanks to mirski57 for providing the list.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/D49.jpgRain of Fire (G)

Down 200 enemies with artillery support calls.

For this trophy you will need to kill 200 enemies with artillery airstrikes. You get access to airstrikes by moving Battleships into support positions. Once in position you will see the artillery menu show up on your screen at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

All airstrikes are called in by pressing the corresponding D-pad command in the menu. Once you have an airstrike in the menu, for example, if you have mortar strikes positioned with the  D-pad position then press  on the D-pad. You will now pull out your binoculars and “paint” the area you want blown up. For this trophy kill 200 enemies with these strikes. It doesn’t matter what type of strike you’re calling in (mortars, missiles or any combination thereof) as long as you are blowing up the aliens “real good like.”

Now there is no way you’ll get 200 kills during your playthrough so you will need to grind these after you finish the game.

Depending on what other trophies you may need, choose one of the two below options. The first option and video provided by 360GameTV is much more efficient and faster if you are only grinding support kills.

Option 1:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggTdSVUqnvg]Battleship - Rain of Fire - Feuerregen - Fastest Way Achievement Guide - HD - YouTube[/ame]

Option 2:

Load up mission 7 “End Game” on the easiest difficulty. Fight your way the final boss battle. Once you reach this area you will have an unlimited amount of alien soldiers drop-shipped down to you as long as you don’t destroy the Mothership (you should destroy the other enemy ships to make things go faster.)

As these infinite amounts of Alien troops are dropped onto the island blow them up with your artillery strikes. After a long while your trophy should pop. You should also grind out any other kill, recover, or wild card collection trophies here. If you die, don’t worry about it because the game tracks everything you did so you won’t lose a single stat. But if you need to leave the grinding session, die on purpose and back out to the main menu so the game can save your progress. Unfortunately, the game does not have a statistic screen so you cannot see any of your progress.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/1CD.jpgDown But Not Out! (B)

Recover 5 ships.

If one of your Battleships get sunk then you will have to recover it. You can recover the ships by obtaining “Recovery” wild cards that are dropped by downed enemies. Note that enemies don’t normally drop “Recovery” wild cards unless one or more of your Battleships have been destroyed.

If you were a superstar and didn’t lose enough ships during your playthrough then load up the last mission and let you ships go down, then recover them. Its best to grind this at the same time you’re grinding the kills for the above (G)Rain of Fire trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1380/A6C.jpgPEGS! (B)

Found all 28 hidden pegs.

There are 4 PEGS per level. Find all 28 for the trophy. If you find and PEG and die, don't worry about re-finding it as they auto-save to your profile when you pick them up. Special thanks to 360GameTV for providing the video.

Good guide thanks, used it to get my plat.

When I was going for the rain of fire trophy I found it best to move the ship off the support tile and as soon as the support symbol was gone then moved the ship back to the support tile, which instantly made it ready. I know simple but it was quicker than waiting for it to recharge.

Could anybody tell me if its worth going for Plat? I heard the movie was horrible and also that the game was worst.

besides: the movie isn't that bad.

it's nothing you have to use your brain while watching, but if you like movies like transformers, where a lot of stuff is blown up, then you get entertained.

Watched the movie a couple of weeks ago, had a few comedic moments and typical explosions/invasion/blow the hell out of everything theme. not the greatest and not the worst in my opinion.

OP - Great looking guide, just added the game to my rental list cause of it.

platinum the game. Last peg was hidden between where the video was cut off at the last second. look around there and u will find.

thanks for the guide. I actually think starting the game from hard might be easier. Shotgun is very very important. 2 thugs without shotgun at level 4 on admiral difficulty is impossible. Also quit the game and found out shotgun is require.

Admiral at the last level does take a few try. Over all a decent game IMO.

"Brought a Knife to a Gun Fight?"

The trophy description says first appearance is mission 2. It's actually 3. It also references a thug at the beginning of the chapter. Two shotgun blasts on easy kill it so shooting it once would probably be best.

Also you may want to add in the fact there are collectibles in the road map. I didn't realize there was a trophy for them until chapter 3 and had to play the first two chapters again.
