Introduction

Bang Bang Racing is somewhat of a tribute to top-down racing games of years gone by. For those of you who are familiar with titles such as ‘Super Sprint’ or ‘Micro Machines’ for example, you’re set for a similar kind of experience, albeit updated to reflect today’s system capabilities and benchmarks. In my opinion, this game is incredibly fun and well worth the price tag, and everything the game sets out to achieve, it achieves with flying colours. The game controls perfectly, looks exceptional and sounds great, with the only real downside being the lack of an online multiplayer mode. Bang Bang Racing is a worthy addition to the PSN catalogue, and one which I highly recommend you try out.

Walkthrough

Step One - Career Mode

The first step to 100% is tackling career mode. Progress through all the events ensuring you obtain at least a Bronze medal in each, ultimately earning yourself ‘Cup Collector’. Ideally, you also want to work towards the ‘Bang Bang Kaboom!’ trophy during this step, unlocked for detonating 50 explosive barrels.

Step Two - Championship Mode

With career mode complete, progress on to the championship related trophies; ‘Rookie of The Year’, ‘Real Racer!’, ‘Slick on Slicks!’, ‘The Right Formula’ and lastly, ‘Lookin’ Good!’. These trophies are tied to the completion of each of the four cups, which in turn relate to each of Bang Bang Racing’s car classes. The exception however is ‘Lookin’ Good!’, earned for completing a championship without your health dropping below a green state - you ideally want to obtain this in the first cup.

Step Three - Split Screen Trophies

There are three trophies tied to the use of split-screen mode, those being ‘Perfect Host’, ‘Tis But A Scratch’ and ‘Bang Bang Party’. With step one and two complete, I suggest getting these out of the way before moving on to the last step. These trophies are a potential bore if playing solo, requiring you to grind out races against an idle competitor, luckily they don’t take too much time overall.

Step Four - Time Trial Mode

With steps one to three complete, the last two trophies to unlock are ‘You Beat Us!’ and ‘Beat The Clock’, the latter of which being the most time consuming trophy in the game. ‘Beat The Clock’ consumes more time than the game's other eleven trophies combined. However, that being said it’s the mode I had the most fun with, and in no way felt this was a chore to unlock, especially given the inclusion of online leaderboards for all track variants.

Host and complete 10 Split-screen races.

Head into ‘Free Play’ via the main menu, press :cross: on a second controller for Player 2 to join the game, then proceed to apply the following game settings:

  • Mode = Standard
  • Track = Any (I personally used ‘Sakura Speedway’ as it’s very short)
  • Class = Any
  • Laps = 3
  • AI = Off

Using the above settings makes this trophy extremely quick and simple, complete a race, then rinse and repeat the process a further nine times.

Detonate 50 exploding barrels.

Littered on each track are three types of barrel; blue water barrels, black oil barrels and red explosive barrels. With regards to this particular trophy, we are only concerned with the latter. In order to detonate an explosive barrel, it’s simply a case of driving into it, which will in turn initiate a short countdown then explosion. You’ll know you’ve hit a red barrel as upon doing so, a white circle will surround it.

Detonate a total of 50 barrels to obtain this trophy.

Win a Split-screen Standard Race of minimum 5 laps without using the Pit Lane.

An exceptionally easy trophy. Head into ‘Free Play’ via the main menu, have a second player join the game and apply the same settings described for the ‘Perfect Host’ trophy - with the exception of the laps setting, which must be set to at least 5. Now start the race and leave Player 2 idle as you, (Player 1), completes the race whilst ensuring you never enter the pit lane.

Finish every event in Career mode in Bronze, Silver or Gold places!

Career mode is made up of 4 stages; N-Dura, Evo GT, Protech and lastly Apex - with each stage comprising of the various event types Bang Bang Racing has to offer. These include standard/reverse track races, elimination races, time-trials and championships. Career mode is actually quite short and shouldn’t take you long to blast through.

In order to unlock this trophy you naturally have to progress through all the events, ensuring you clinch at least a Bronze ranking in each.

Win the N-Dura Cup.

Please refer to ‘The Right Formula’.

Complete an entire Championship without ever letting your health drop below green.

This trophy is best accomplished by using the first championship ‘The N-Dura Cup’. Firstly, before you go for this trophy lower the AI difficulty to easy to make things as simple as possible. Now just progress through the four, three lap races without your health falling below green.

Once each race begins, try to stay away from the main pack of racers therefore avoiding potential collisions and receiving too much damage, wait for opportune moments to make your overtakes and progress to the front of the pack (achievable after the first couple of corners on easy difficulty). Once you’re in the lead it’s plain sailing, as other racers shouldn’t catch you. Obviously you want to avoid the red exploding barrels, and feel free to make use of the pit stop at the end of each lap, which will grant you full health.

It’s worth noting, restarting races mid championship negates this trophy.

Complete 10 Split-screen Championships.

This trophy is similar to ‘Perfect Host’ but unfortunately a much lengthier grind. You could conceivably make it less of a chore if you played the championships with friends, but if you’re going for it solo it's a bit of a slog.

I suggest utilising ‘The N-Dura Cup’ for this trophy, as it’s the shortest of the championships available, consisting of four, three lap races.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1522/681.jpg You Beat Us! (S)

Beat our Best Lap Time of 00:21:451 in Time Trial on Sakura Speedway Long.

I strongly suggest going for this trophy when you’ve acquired the fourth and final class of car; ‘Apex’, unlocked during the third stage of career mode. The Apex class grants you the fastest cars in the game and makes the task of achieving this time very straightforward.

It’s achievable to get this time right from the green light, but to make things easier on yourself it’s best to aim for the time via a ‘flying lap’ (ie. Starting a fresh lap, whilst maintaining the full speed and momentum of a previous lap). As a reference, I personally achieved a lap time of 19.924 seconds using the 'Autoviva' car, well within the criteria for the trophy, which also suggests there is ample margin for error.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1522/356.jpg Beat The Clock (S)

Achieve Gold awards in Time Trial on all the Track variants in each Class.

The nine tracks in Bang Bang Racing, each with six variants are as follows:

  • Shaluk Sands
  • Palm Coast
  • Euro Autodrome
  • Stonelake Circuit
  • Marina d’Azur
  • Sakura Speedway
  • Circuito do Sol
  • Mont Vitesse
  • Layton Raceway

You’re looking at quite a lengthy trophy here, given there’s 54 total tracks to complete with each of the four class of cars. Remember you’re not solely registering a time, you must beat the Gold target time set for each individual time trial.

(It’s worth noting, not all tracks and track variants will initially be available, they will unlock during your progress through career mode).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1522/AC1.jpg The Right Formula (G)

Win the Apex World Trophy

Given that the last two championships aren't unlocked until the completion of career mode, it's advisable to go for all four championship trophies once you've completed that step. The four championships relate to the four classes of car, and with each championship the number of races and laps per race slightly increases.

None of the championships are difficult, and considering the fact you can lower the AI difficulty to easy and still obtain the trophies, your endeavour for these four trophies should be quick and hassle free.

Cheers for the guide Puzzler. Just a small tip i found regarding game play-always have your finger on the accelerate button and any corner tap the brake button whilst still accelerating i found this helps with a smoother turn as opposed to a 90 degree snap and loss of speed.

Hey mate, no problem glad you found it useful.

I have to disagree with you on your tip though :p, I always found drifting to be detrimental to my overall times, and favoured taking corners really tight and using the nitro to instantly boost out of the corner. The only track I used drifting on, is Layton Raceway.

There's no right and wrong way to play though :)
