Story Mode Collectibles

Recommended Posts

This is revised edition of all the collectibles found in the story mode. The content is effectively the same, but the guide has been formatted for easier reading and has been edited with proper grammar (hopefully). It was compiled extensively using the guides of brad1787, deadlydoll (from xbox360achievements.com) and Jiggstown. A very big thanks goes out to them. I authored the guide for the "Off-Road Escape" level.

xAGENTP6x has been kind enough to create youtube videos mapping out all of the collectibles and effectively providing a complete walkthrough of story mode. A huge thanks goes out to him for letting us use his videos. Please note that the order in which he collects the collectibles may differ from the written guide.

The collectibles are sorted by level and listed in the order in which they become available. Accordingly, I recommend following this guide in order. Enjoy!

Important remarks:

  • From the main menu, be sure to change Hunter Sense to Classic in the options menu. It will make spotting collectibles (and other items) a lot easier.
  • Speaking of Hunter Sense, you should be using this very liberally in your search for these collectibles. If you can't spot a certain collectible, try turning this on and it will most likely illuminate the item. That said, you should keep in mind that some marksman items will be too distant to be highlighted by the Hunter Sense.
  • If you ever restart from a checkpoint or quit the game before it saves, you will loose all collectibles since your previous save. This is especially important for the "Off-Road Escape" level, since you will be restarting from checkpoints a lot there.

Full Moon

Marksman: 5 (Apples)

Experience: 11 (Elk antlers)

Journal: 4 (Pages)

Marksman (1/7): As you make your way out of the snow, rather than continuing on the objective path, turn left and look through the jagged thicket of trees. Look carefully and you will eventually find small dead sapling with the apples on it. Unfortunately, Hunter Sense won't illuminate them when they're this far out.

Experience (1/11): These are pretty hard to miss. You should be right on top of these antlers when you initiate a scene that has some caribou charging running.

Journal (1/4): After you get the antlers, you will enter a valley. Use your Hunter Sense to locate some grizzly tracks. Follow them and you'll eventually come to the first set of journal pages.

Experience (2/11): Cotinue along the far right side of the same valley as above. You will find these antlers beside the base a tree just as valley starts to bend around.

Experience (3/11): After the cutscene with the wolves eating their kill, you will find the antlers on the far left of of the area under an evergreen. They can be hard to spot, so don't forget about your Hunter Sense.

Experience (4/11): Continue along the left side of the area and you'll find the next set of antlers in small snowy area in the woods.

Marksman (2/5): Just after you pick up the previous set of antlers, look straight ahead over a dead fallen tree and you'll see some apples hanging from another dead upright tree.

Marksman (3/5): You will come to an area with a broken archway and be attacked by three wolves. Take out the wolves and then look to the right over the small cliff. In the valley below, you will find the apples haning from a tree that is just in front crumbling building. To get the proper angle, you will need to You shoot it before you go through the broken arch.

Experience (5/11): When you through the broken arch, immediately turn right to find the antlers at the foot of the arch.

Experience (6/11): A small cutscene will play in which you get knocked down into the valley. After this cutscene, look in the back right corner behind the tree to find this set of antlers.

Experience (7/11): After you battle the wolves, go to the gate that you can not open and look to the left. You should see the antlers behind some gravestones.

Experience (8/11): You will come to another broken arch. Before going through it, look to the right to find the antlers buried in the swampy weeds. Remember to use Hunter Sense to help you find them.

Journal (2/4): These pages are near impossible to miss. They will be right after you open the gate.

Journal (3/4): After your first dealings with the mountain lions, you'll come to an area with a ton of bear traps. In the middle path/frozen rivene, there will be a downed tree. To the left of this tree there are the pages near a tree and a bear trap. On a side note, be sure to shoot 30 of the traps as you make your way through this area to unlock the "Defuser" trophy. You can use Hunter Sense to easily spot the traps.

Experience (9/11): You will come to another fallen tree in the middle of the frozen rivene. In front of it you will find this set of antlers next to a bear trap.

Marksman (4/5): These apples are in the woods up the hill to the right of the previous antlers. They are close enough to be spotted with your Hunter Sense though.

Experience (10/11): You will come to an area that has a bunch of cougars, many of which are sitting on some plataeu rock type structures. Follow the path, taking out the cougars as you go along, as it bends around. When it bends around to the left for the first time go to the plateau towards the right, you'll find the antlers next to some shotgun shells and a health pack at the base of one of the rock structures.

Journal (4/4): Continue along the path and make your way up the frozen creek. As you go along, you will come to small opening on the left that contain these pages. If you get to the cutscene where wolves attack the bear, you've gone to far.

Experience (11/11): After the cutscene with bear and wolves, continue along your path and you'll come point where part of the path is raised. Take the raised path and you'll find the antlers a few steps ahead.

Marksman (5/5): You will be attacked by a black wolf and then have to deal with a bunch of its buddies. After you take them all down, you should be able to see a fallen tree to the right (as you're facing your objective). Look to the horizon to the right just before this tree and you will eventually spot the last set of apples for this level. They will be close enough that you can still use your Hunter Sense so be sure to do so.

Off-Road Escape

Marksman: 10 (Beehives)

Experience: 0

Journal: 0

Remarks: This level really sucks when it comes to collecting the marksman collectibles. The problem is that you're in a moving truck so none of the targets are stationary and they are only in your screen briefly before they fade out of view. As per brad1787's advice, I found the shotgun to be more useful for this level than the rifle, but others prefer the rifle. That said, I did not use Hunter Sense to spot the beehives, since it's too narrow in scope. I've tried to organized these collectibles by checkpoints to make it easier for you to reload checkpoints when needed (which will be quite often :(). I highly recommend viewing xAGENTP6x's video to help you out with this level.

Marksman (1/10): This beehive is in the first part of the level. It will be hanging from tree to the left of the road near the beginning of the level.

Marksman (2/10): Your truck will stop briefly and the camera will swing hard to your left to pan over some buffalo running from left to right. The beehive is dangling from a tree to the right.

Pass the first checkpoint.

Marksman (3/10): Just after you see the first checkpoint save kick in, you will be charged by two buffalo and then the cameral will turn to the right. Once it turns, you will see the beehive hanging from the tree to the left.

Marksman (4/10): After the previous beehive, you will resume driving and be focused on some buffalo over a cliff to the left of the truck. The beehive will hanging from the brush on this cliff.

Pass the second checkpoint.

Marksman (5/10): This one appears just before checkpoint three after you see all the birds fly by. You'll pass between a small rock passage of sorts and then the beehive will come into view from your left. As usual, it is hanging from a tree that comes into view briefly. If you don't manage to shoot it down right away, I would pause the game and restart from checkpoint so you don't give the game a chance to let the third checkpoint kick in.

Pass the third checkpoint.

Marksman (6/10): At beginning of the third checkpoint, you will have to shoot to scare away some buffalo. There will be two beehives on the trees behind them. The video below recommends using the crossbow here to shoot down the two beehives, since it doesn't make a bang, and therefore won't scare away the buffalo. I vaguely recall trying to shoot down the beehives with the crossbow and failing, but that could have just been my aim. If you decide to use your gun(s), you will want to get the one on the left first, since it’s the harder of the two and the car will start to move shortly after you shoot it. On a side note, I definitely recommend taking out a lot of the buffalo with the crossbow while you're here (and throughout this level) to work towards the "Bow In Front Of Me" trophy.

Marksman (7/10): Immediately after you shoot the beehive above, scroll over to the right and shoot this one.

Marksman (8/10): Right after Mbeki says, “I can’t shake them!”, you will turn to face forward and the beehive will hanging above from a tree in the centerish.

Marksman (9/10): You will be getting attacked by cheetahs. (Ridiculous, I know.) After two of them lunge at you and you kill them with a slow-mo heart shot, this beehive will come into view from a tree on the left. This is just before the third cheetah lunges at you. *sigh*

Pass the fourth (final) checkpoint.

Marksman (10/10): After the sequence where you're temporarily knocked out of the truck bed, you will see some buffalo over a small cliff. Directly after that, you will see the last beehive come into view above the middle of the road hanging from a tree that is planted to the left.

Rhino Hunt

Marksman: 3 (Beehives)

Experience: 3 (Buffalo horns)

Marksman (1/3): If you’re standing at crashed truck facing the back wall, go to the back right corner, look up to the top of the wall and you should spot this beehive.

Marksman (2/3): In the distance behind the back wall, you’ll see a the beehive hanging from a green tree.

Marksman (3/3): If you’re standing at the crashed truck facing the back wall, turn left and you should see some trees through the broken down wall. The beehive is hanging from one of these trees

Experience (1/3): In the middle of the arena towards the back side.

Experience (2/3): You can find the horn in one of the corners of the arena.

Experience (3/3): This horn is also in a (different) corner of the arena.

Experience (1/8): This horn is hard to miss. At the beginning when buffalo charges at you, it's right in the middle of the path.

Experience (2/8): After the above horn, you'll come to an area with hot spots on the ground. The horn is on your left, after you hook right, around where hot ground ends.

Marksman (2/7): As you curve around the fires after the journal pages, you will see a health pack lying on the ground in the middle of the path. The beehive is hanging from a tree to the right of this.

Experience (3/8): After the above beehive, stay right and kill the leopard lying in wait. Continue along staying to past the bush he came out of and look on the other side of these bushes. If you stayed right, the horn is in the grass to your left. (This is a little hard to explain, but after that 1st leopard its basically around there.)

Experience (4/8): After the last horn, stay right and you'll come across another leopard hiding in the bushes. Kill it, then go to the right of the bush it came out of and keep walking sticking to your right. You'll come to a rock wall with the horn in the grass there.

Marksman (4/7): You will come to an area with leopards in trees area, look to the trees on the right by a health pack to find this beehive.

Experience (6/8): After you clear the area with the leopards in the trees, you'll come to a fork in the road where youre supposed to go left. Go right instead and you'll see a horn by another health pack.

Marksman (5/7): When you reach "Escape wildfire" checkpoint, you come to a path where you have to avoid stampeding buffalo. Before you start dodging, look to your right to the trees in the distance with your hunter sense OFF. The beehive is hanging in them. Zoom in to see it.

Experience (7/8): While escaping fire and dodging buffalo, this horn will be right in the middle of path after the leopards attack.

Marksman (6/7): Just a few meters from last collectable, look to your right at the trees for this beehive. (This one you should be able to see with hunters sense)

Journal (2/2): These pages are hard to miss. In the middle of path by a rock after the previous beehive, but before the bridge, you'll find these pages.

Experience (8/8): After you cross the bridge and hook left on the path, there will be a horn nestled behind some rocks.

Marksman (7/7): After you pick up last horn and turn to continue on the path, the beehive is on the tree hanging over the path before the outpost.

Outpost

Marksman: 8 (Beehives)

Experience: 10 (Buffalo horns)

Journal: 3 (Audio recordings)

Marksman (1/8): This beehive is right at the beginning before you go down the ladder, although you should still be able to get it after you climb down. To spot it, aim at Mbeke and look over his shoulder. You should see the beehive hanging on a tree. If you enter the room with ladder you can pick it off through the window.

Experience (1/10): After you leave the tower and start out on the path with snakes, stay to the left on this path and you can spot the horn in the grass. Don't forget about Hunter Sense.

Marksman (2/8): After you pick up the previous horn, look to the trees on that same left side of the path. You may have to go to the right side of the path to see it over the rocks.

Experience (2/10): Directly to the left of the heavy rifle, you can find the horn under dead tree.

Experience (3/10): After shooting some cheetahs that are sitting in some trees, you will come to an area that appears to be a shooting range. By the targets on a table is the horn.

Experience (4/10): Once you enter the area where the moneys are on the roof throwing stuff at you, you will come across a car. The horn is behind some crates to the right of this car.

Experience (5/10): After defeating all the monkeys in the previous area, you will enter a doorway leading into the building. As you enter, it’s to your right behind a crate.

Marksman (5/8): Before you jump through a hole in floor, use Hunter Sense to illuminate a the beehive outside. You can shoot through the boarded up window to get the hive. Otherwise, you can get the hive after you’ve gone through hole in the floor, now that you know where it is.

Journal (1/3): Impossible to miss. Once you go through the hole in the floor, you’ll land on top of it.

Experience (6/10): After the gorillas attack you in the room, you will come to a hall that has a bunch of ammo in the attached rooms. At the end of the hall, you’ll enter a kitchen type room. Go to the left and you’ll find the horn between some sinks.

Marksman (6/8): In the next area, some more gorillas will jump through the windows and fall through ceiling to attack you. Once you clear them out, go outside and wind around the patio to the left. You will find the beehive under the roof above the patio.

Experience (7/10): When you head down patio stairs and into the mine field, turn around at the base of the stairs and stay under the patio. You’ll find the horn by some crates.

Journal (2/3): The audio tape is left over by the blown up baboon. As there are a ton of landmines laying around, you can use this opportunity to get "Defuser" if you haven't gotten it yet.

Marksman (7/8): After you collect the journal, look at the tree that is slightly to your left. You’ll find the hive there. The beehive is visible with Hunter Sense.

Experience (8/10): After the last marksman target, look to the left and you’ll see a cage. The horn is lying in the cage beside a health-pack.

Experience (9/10): When you enter the next building after the mine field area, go upstairs and look behind you to find this horn on the ground.

Journal (3/3): Like the other two, this journal is nearly impossible to miss. It is on the patio where you are told to protect Mbeki.

Marksman (8/8): After picking up last journal, look on trees to your right and you’ll find the beehive.

Experience (10/10): Once you finish the sequence where you protect Mbeke, climb down to the ground floor using the ladder. Turn around and go in the opposite direction of the tower that Mbeke is in. The last horn for this level is in the grass by a tree.

Caverns

Marksman: 8 (Spider webs)

Experience: 4 (Buffalo horns)

Journal: 3 (Pages)

Marksman (1/8): The spider web is right in front of you, as you start the level.

Marksman (2/8): After you pass through a path containing some land mines, you’ll come to an area with a lot of ammo and a door that you have to explode. As you enter this room, look to the wall to your right to find the web.

Journal (1/3): These pages are between some boxes on one of the shelves in the same room as above.

Marksman (3/8): After exit the aforementioned room, you’ll turn on a generator and then make your way across a bridge. When you get to the first set of wooden planks, look to your left on the not too distant cave wall to find the spider web.

Journal (2/3): This one is pretty easily missed. After you rappel down, turn around and walk towards a big rock with the pages lying next to it.

Experience (1/4): As you make your way through the area where the previous collectible was, you’ll have to go up a ladder to advance. To get your bearings, face the ladder, turn 180 degrees and walk straight. You can’t miss the horn, as long as Hunter Sense is on.

Experience (2/4): Again, before you climb ladder, walk to the area to the left of the ladder. You will find the horn in the water. (If your Hunter Sense is on, you will also see a web through the wall, but you can’t shoot it yet.)

Marksman (4/8): Climb the ladder and go about half way across bridge. Look down and left, using your rifle scope, and you should be able to pick off web you saw while picking up last horn. Unfortunately, Hunter Sense won’t illuminate it from this far out.

Experience (3/4): In the back somewhat open area with land mines, you’ll find the horn just past a health pack.

Marksman (5/8): This web is very close to the previous horn. Just go around a rock to pick it off.

Experience (4/4): You come to an area with flickering lights to your left and a deep fall to your right. As soon as you enter (after brief cutscence), go around some rocks on your right and to find the last horn. Don’t worry, you can’t fall of the ledge.

Marksman (6/8): As you start walking along up narrow path, hugging rocks, look to your right to find a web.

Marksman (7/8): After you rappel down again, you will come to a cavern, where you’ll here a hyena laugh. As you enter the cavern, you’ll find the web on the wall to your right. (You can still get it after the cutscene with your father.)

Marksman (8/8): After the first area where you kill some hyenas, you must make your way along a narrow path with a little drop and some water on your left. Look across the water to find the web on a wall. This is before the next are that also has some hyenas for you to kill.

Journal (3/3): This is nearly impossible to miss. The pages are lying against a rock in plain sight after the previous caverns with hyenas. Assuming you been following this collectible guide, you should have just unlocked the “Hidden Pages” trophy.

Kaftar Hunt

Marksman: 1 (Beehive)

Experience: 1 (Elk antlers)

Marksman (1/1): As you start the level, look straight ahead and you should see a giraffe in the corner of the room. The beehive is next to it.

Experience (1/1): In the corner opposite the above beehive, you’ll find the last collectible of the game! After you pick these up (assuming you shot the beehive first), you should unlock the “Collector’s Edition” trophy.

I just updated this collectible guide to include some youtube videos xAGENTP6x
.

Thanx for lettin me be a part of the guide :) its a win-win situation in my eyes...u get an even fuller guide (not that it was lacking in the first place), gamers get a written AND video guide for any collectibles that may be difficult with only a written description, and i get more views on my youtube channel :)

So ya i was GLAD to give you the go ahead on using my vids

- (This may need to be corrected. Please inform me, if this the case.)

- (Sorry I can’t be more specific.)

You have the videos available at your disposal; I don't know why you're being so doubtful :p And they should be more than enough to confirm.

Marksman (1/10): This beehive is in the first part of the level. It will be hanging from tree to the left of the road near the beginning of the level.

After the first poacher jeep leaves the screen, it'll be hanging from the tree close to the middle top-right of the screen.

Marksman (2/10): This beehive is also in the first part of the level. It’s really hard to pin the exact location of the beehive down. Suffice it to say, they are hanging from a tree.

You'll pass by grazing buffalo and come to a complete stop. Hive's on the right.

Marksman (4/10): This beehive is also in the second part of the level after the first checkpoint. You will resume driving and be focused on some buffalo over a cliff. The beehive will hanging from the brush on this cliff. (This may need to be corrected. Please inform me, if this the case.)

I saw the video and this is correct.

Marksman (5/10): This beehive may either be after the first or second checkpoint. I’m not 100% sure. You will return to viewing the buffalo attacking the back of the truck. This beehive is hanging from a tree that comes into view for a moment. (Sorry I can’t be more specific.)

This one is before and after the second checkpoint After the second poacher jeep and at the end of the african ducks (?) sequence, and right before you scare away buffalos. The checkpoints starts off facing the hive, but not for long... good luck.

Marksman (6/10): After the third checkpoint, you will have to shoot to scare away some buffalo. There will be two beehives on the trees behind them. You want to get the one on the left first, since it’s the harder of the two and the car will start to move shortly after you shoot.

Correction: Second checkpoint starts here. Third is after the cheetahs.

P.S. kudos to xAGENTP6x

Honestly, I didn't even think to cross reference my written guide for that level with xAGENTP6x's video. Hindsight is indeed 20/20 (or even 20/15). ;)

...Correction: Second checkpoint starts here. Third is after the cheetahs....

I just watched the video. It's definitely the third checkpoint.
