Another guide has been chosen as the preferred guide for this game.

This thread has been closed and is not maintained, and as a result may contain outdated or incorrect information. Please follow the link below for the preferred guide.

Overview:

-Estimated trophy difficulty: 2/10

-Offline: 50

-Online: 0

-Approximate amount of time to Platinum: 8-10 hours

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1

-Number of missable trophies: None (episode select)

-Glitched trophies: None

-Do cheat codes disable trophies: No

There is a cheat for infinite ammo that has been confirmed by several members to not affect trophies earned:

There IS a cheat for Alone in the Dark and no, it does NOT disable trophies. The cheat is for infinite ammo. To get it, make sure that a) you are in 3rd person view and b) you have NOTHING equipped. Then quickly press :triangle: :circle: :cross: :square:  :right:  :left: :triangle: :square: :cross: :circle:  :left:  :right:. If done correctly, an announcement will appear of the top of the screen.

The difficulty of the trophies is really a 1/10, however many people complain of the controls (I felt this way too) so I gave it a 2/10. Many of the trophies are also story related so you can't miss them.

The game relies heavily on the combination inventory so many trophies relate to this. This is how you make most of your weapons to handle the enemies. The hardest trophy to get (Handyman Carnby) deals with making all combinations. Follow that section of the guide as it's the best recommendation I can give.

Some parts of the game can be tricky. There are a number of puzzles in the game and honestly those are what kept the game somewhat enjoyable for me. If you have any issue with a level I recommend you search for a game guide online. Be advised that the PS3 edition added an extra part into Episode 6 that does not exist in the 360 version.

There is a episode select feature in the game. I recommend you not use this until you have completed the game. Some people have experienced glitches where they do not receive a trophy for a particular episode (usually episode 3). Most of them have stated that if you load up the last part of that episode and play through it then it will unlock. I did not have this issue so I have no first hand knowledge of it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/023.jpg]Basic Combination (B)

Tape up a bottle.

Combine tape and any kind of bottle.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/024.jpgNuke (B)

Kill 3 Humanz at once.

I got this on Episode 3. At the beginning of the "Stitches and Truth" part you will find yourself at the top of the ladder and back in the park. There are 3 Humanz ahead of you. Equip a flammable bottle and your gun. You'll have to hold down :l1: and walk around trying to lure the 3 close together. When you think you've got it, press :r1:. You will then enter slow motion and simply use :r1: again to shoot the bottle when it's close to all 3. It may take a few attempts to get the grouping right.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/025.jpgThe Smart Fighter (B)

Kill any Humanz with the 'spray + lighter' combination.

Equip some form of spray and your lighter. Press :triangle: to go into first person and then press :r1: to spray flames toward an enemy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/026.jpgThe Molotov Cocktail (B)

Insert a wick into a bottle with flammable content.

Combine a handkerchief or bandage with any flammable bottle.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/027.jpgCocoon (B)

Burn a cocoon.

Toward the end of the "Down the fissure" segment of Episode 3 you will see a circular room filled with water. There is a ladder on the opposite side that is blocked by a cocoon. You can throw and shoot a flammable bottle or use your lighter with a spray to burn it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/028.jpgThe Air Bomb (B)

Throw a bottle filled with flammable liquid and shoot it mid-air.

Equip a flammable liquid bottle and your gun. Hold :l1: and press :r1: to throw the bottle and you will enter slow motion. Press :r1: again to shoot it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/029.jpgThe Sticky Bomb (B)

Take a bottle filled with flammable content or a spray and combine it with an adhesive.

Combine a flammable bottle with some tape.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/030.jpgFire Bullets (B)

Make a fire bullet by pouring flammable liquid on it.

Combine your gun with a flammable liquid/bottle.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/031.jpgThe Glowstick Bomb (B)

Combine a taped bottle filled with flammable content or a spray with a glowstick.

Combine a flammable bottle with some tape. Then combine that with a glowstick.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/032.jpgUseless! (B)

Combine an empty taped bottle with a wick and an emergency flare.

Combine an empty bottle with some tape. Add a bandage or hankerchief and then add in an emergency flare.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/034.jpgThe Sharpshooter (B)

Finish off a Humanz by shooting fire bullets at it's fissure.

I did this in Episode 3. I used some debris and knocked down a Humanz. Sometimes they will jump up quick so knock them down again. At some point they are likely to stay down for some time. Combine a flammable liquid with you gun and enter first person mode. You should see red lines on the enemies. When I got it the red lines on the leg were rather thick so it made it easy to shoot. Shoot a line (fissure) and you'll get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/035.jpgDemolition Expert (B)

Build the most destructive weapon.

Combine a flammable bottle and some tape. Then combine it with a full box of ammunition.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/036.jpgFissure (B)

Burn a fissure.

I did this in Episode 3. When in the building with the 3 evil roots, a fissure will attack you when you take the elevator up. You can burn the fissure in any manner you want.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/037.jpgThe Biggest of All (B)

Beat the Museum Monster.

You'll get this by playing Episode 5. To beat it, equip a flammable bottle and your gun. Hide behind a column and wait for it to stop throwing blades at you. Peek around and throw the bottle, shooting it when it's close to it. It will do a new attack soon so hide behind a column when the area behind it glows. He will attack the column at which point you should run to another. Repeat this process 3 more times to get the trophy. There are additional flammable bottles near some of the corners.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/038.jpgGoal! (B)

Kick 10 Ratz.

First spot to do this is in the lobby in Episode 2. The Ratz are gray mutated creatures. There will be 3 in the lobby. Run up to them and press :r2: to kick them. They can't die this way so repeat until you have the trophy. They can be found elsewhere in the game so you can get it later too.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/039.jpgToasted Eggs (B)

Burn a Ratz nest.

During the "Filthy Waters" segment of Episode 3 you'll come across a room with a grated walkway over electrified water. Across the room will be a small mass that throws out Ratz. Shoot this with a fire bullet or get close and spray it with your ligher. There are other locations for these as well so just keep an eye out.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/040.jpgVampirz (B)

Burn one of the Vampirz.

These are the flying bat like creatures. At any point you can use a spray with your lighter to catch one on fire. Many of these are present during Episode 4.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/041.jpgFisherman's Foe (B)

Shoot a goldfish.

Toward the end of the "Down the fissure" segment of Episode 3 you will see a circular room filled with water. This is the same room with the cocoon. Look in the water and you'll see a goldfish swimming around. Shoot it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/042.jpgUnlimited Offer (B)

Call all contacts in your address book.

Once you have the PDA (Episode 3), open it up with :select:. Go to Contacts and then call each of the 4. Once the last call is made you'll get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/043.jpgWired (B)

Hotwire a car.

I got this in Episode 7 or 8. There are cars prior to this that you can earn the trophy on however I thought I'd just state where I got this personally. Enter a car and the start up will be blocked out. Look toward the ignition and press :cross: when the hotwire symbol appears. Press :ls: and :rs: toward each other. If nothing happens, press both sticks up to try the next wires. Do this until a meter appears with a line moving left to right. Press :r2: in the green section toward the right and the car will start.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/044.jpgCar Thievery (B)

Unlock a car door after breaking the window.

You'll get this in Episode 2. You'll need to break the window of the car and enter it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/045.jpgFree Gasoline (B)

Pierce a car gas tank and fill a bottle with the fuel.

I got this near the end of Episode 3. You need a knife or a screwdriver and an empty bottle. Equip both and go up to a gas tank on a car and hit :cross:. The gasoline will start to leak and then press :cross: again. The longer you sit there the more you get, however to get the trophy just do those steps.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/046.jpgNever Leave a Key Here (B)

Find a car key in the sun visor.

When you enter a car, look up and hit :cross: when prompted. You'll get this in Episode 2 by default.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/047.jpgThe 10 Mile Race (B)

Drive at least 10 miles with a vehicle.

You can sit and drive during Episode 2 over and over if you want or drive around in the park during Episode 3/4. However by just playing the game I unlocked this during a segment in Episode 4. I'd advise just to play and you'll get it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/049.jpgBloody Mary (B)

Bandage 5 deep bleeding wounds.

If you get hurt severely, a timer will appear in the lower left of the screen. If the timer reaches 0, you die. When it appears, hit :left: or :right: on the d-pad. If you have bandages in your inventory, press :r1: to bandage the severe wound. You may or may not get this just playing through the game.

I chose to do this in the kitchen area of Episode 5. It is the part where you have to throw a molotov over the broken wall to burn a bunch of ratz nests. You can shoot the dead guy on the floor once to get the ratz to stay off of you if you want. Anyway, there are tons of bottles in the kitchen, so I made a molotov and threw it on the floor. Just stand on it and get hurt. You'll get the countdown each time. After each explosion, just use the bandage. Repeat until you get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/021.jpgFlaming Roots (S)

Burn half of the roots of evil.

I don't think you have to burn half the number of the roots of evil. I burned less than half but my gauge filled to 50/100 and the trophy popped. Anyway, see "Blazing Roots" for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/033.jpgHandyman Carnby (S)

Make all possible combinations in the inventory.

This one can have a mind of it's own so you may need patience for this trophy. You can find plenty of supplies around Central Park, you'll just have to explore. Check larger buildings for plenty of supplies typically. I made this list after researching a bit online and also after getting the trophy myself.

Explosive Plastic Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Emergency Flare

Explosive Plastic Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Glowstick

Explosive Plastic Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Box of Ammunition

Explosive Plastic Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Bandages + Emergency Flare

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Emergency Flare

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Glowstick

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Handkerchief + Box of Ammunition

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Bandages + Emergency Flare

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Bandages + Glowstick

Explosive Glass Bottle + Double Sided Tape + Bandages + Box of Ammunition

Spray Can + Double Sided Tape + Emergency Flare

Spray Can + Double Sided Tape + Glowstick

Spray Can + Double Sided Tape + Box of Ammunition

Bloodpack + Double Sided Tape

Glowstick + Double Sided Tape

Emergency Flare + Double Sided Tape

Box of Ammunition + Gun (reload your gun in the inventory)

*Transfer liquid from one bottle to another

*This was the one that kept me from getting the trophy. I transferred some flammable liquid from a plastic bottle that had (8) in it to a glass bottle that had (8) in it. I simply filled the glass bottle to the max (10) and the trophy popped.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/009.jpgA Day in Central Park (G)

Complete the game.

Complete all 8 episodes in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/022.jpgBlazing Roots (G)

Burn all roots of evil.

Roots of evil are only available to burn during Episodes 3 (3 roots), 4 (4 roots), 7 (8 roots) and 8 (18 roots). Press select and then :cross: on the world icon. This brings up your map and the roots are shown by small static circles on the map. Explore a bit in the circle and you should find the root(s).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/048.jpgEradication (G)

Kill 100 Humanz.

I got this during Episode 8 while going around burning the rest of the roots of evil. If you don't somehow get this by playing normally, run around Central Park in episode 8 killing Humanz and you'll have it in no time.

*Tip submitted by yazter* For killing "100 Humanz" you can go to any checkpoint with lots of Humanz, kill most and then die, once respawned you can kill again. The numbers accumulate that way.

Unlock the platinum trophy by unlocking all other trophies.

Earn all bronze, silver and gold trophies.

This is gotten in the very first scene of the game. When instructed to blink using :r3:, DO NOT do it. Play through the intro until you get to the part where your vision corrects itself.

You'll get this in Episode 3. The game will prompt you to use a bandage to stop the bleeding. Follow the instructions in game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/012.jpgPurification by Fire (B)

Destroy the Vampirz' nest.

Revive Sarah.

You'll get this in the beginning of Episode 5. Use the axe to cut Sarah out of the cocoon type thing. You'll then need to follow the on screen prompts. First you need to press :l3: and :r3: at the same time when the heart line is in the middle. After getting 8 in a row, you'll be prompted to hold :r2: until prompted to stop. Do this twice and you'll get it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/012.jpgStuntman (B)

Jump across the gap using the tow truck.

You'll get this during Episode 4. The tow truck is nearby the gap that you must jump across. Drive the truck up to the gap and get out. Use the controls on the side of the truck. Then shoot the 2 padlocks on the left side of the back of the truck. Now you'll run back to a vehicle and drive full speed to hit the jump.

Don't Kill Sarah.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/61/012.jpgThe Path of Darkness (B)

Kill Sarah.

thanks SwatTJ for the guide im thinking of buying this game difficulty rating 2

i want to ask you how many hours for the platinum ?

can it be done in one one playthrough ??

and thanks again for the guide :)

Your post reminded me to add a roadmap to this so thanks for that. I need to add one to that sega collection one too.

I would say maybe 8-10 hours for the platinum. It can all be done in one playthrough if you plan it, however there is episode select so play through the game normally and go back if you need to. I went back for the cockpit one and to create all combinations.

*Edit* Roadmap typed up.

I now this is dumb but how do you run? Im at the par where the rufe is comeing down and i have a bord on fire but i cant run.

You don't. It's a puzzle. If you really want to know then click on the spoiler below.

[spoiler=fallingceiling]You have to use the plank that's on fire and hold it up to block the light as you walk by. Any section you walk on toward the side of the room you have to get to will have a light beam that can be blocked with the thing you're carrying.

Great guide! Thanks!

Especially the Handyman trophy was spot on. I'd seen another guide that listed a hell of a lot more stuff, but I got the trophy doing exactly what was in this guide.

Glad it worked for you. I wanted that one specifically to be as accurate and easy as possible. It took a little time to get an accurate list but hopefully it saves people time in the long run.

I still need help on this game so just wondering if you can get all of the burning roots in the last chapter or do you have to go to the specific point in the game where you first encounter them?

I'm pretty sure you can get them all in chapter 8.

I burned a few in chapter 4 but not all and just a few in chapter 7, and got the rest in chapter 8. Worked fine.
