Nintendo 2DS

Nintendo announced the 2DS today, a new entry-level handheld system. The 2DS will be available for $129.99 on October 12th (the same day as Pokemon X and Y) and features a slate-like design rather than the clamshell seen on DS and 3DS models.

The 2DS is fully compatible with all 3DS and DS games but does not include the ability to display games in 3D. It still features all the functionality of 3DS (WiFi, local multiplayer, etc.) and can be put to sleep using a slider that replicates closing the clamshell on a standard 3DS. WiFi can still be turned off, though it’s done via controls in the software rather than with a physical switch.

“Imagine a standard 3DS laid all the way flat, and with the depth slider all the way down,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime explained to IGN. “Everything else is there in the system.”

What's the point of this? No 3D? 3DS has an option to turn it off ffs... Price? It's only $30 cheaper than the original Nintendo 3DS

It's pretty ridiculous imo, I don't see how they thought this was a good idea? Ah well, it's Nintendo and they just do whatever they like nowadays :p

My first reaction when I saw the thread title was... "What?" That's got to be one of the most pointless thing I've ever seen since the original 3DS has the option to turn the 3D gimmick off if the people so chooses.

Because pointless gimmick is pointless.

It's reeks of "My First Handheld!" for toddlers to be honest. As an adult, I can't see myself ever taking that thing anywhere outside my home.

*walks up to hot chick with new 2DS in tow and says, "Hey there. See this 2DS? Know what it's made of? Boyfriend material. ;)*

*hot chick laughs uncontrollably and walks away still laughing*

I just got a used wii u at an insanely great price and I grew up playing ninty consoles so I love the company, but what the hell are the execs thinking lately?!?! Seriously people still get confused with the wii and wii u, people confused the ds and the 3ds when it was released now you're going to bring out a 2ds? Who it's making these decisions a monkey? I fa il to see a legitimate logical reason why this needs to exist. It's only $40 cheaper which isn't a lot, last I checked the 3ds was seeking like hotcakes, plus why add more confusion and needless explanations to your product line?!

Nintendo is sitting on a good chunk of cash I believe so they aren't doomed but I really think it's time for some leadership changes.

Love it :D

I thought the OP made a spelling mistake in the thread title when I saw this, but it's actually real!? Why? Why is this even needed? Talk about a cash grab, Nintendo.

This is for the younger and is basically a 3DS with no 3D and nice price cut.
