Marine Nightmare walkthrough

I’m sure others have posted suggestions on how to get through the Marine campaign on Nightmare difficulty but here is what I learned or figured out and how I finally got it done after over a year of letting the game sit at 97% with I Love The Corps being the last trophy needed. I will not list the locations of collectibles as you should pick them up in easy where you have time to mess around and if you die you have checkpoints. I will however list the location of the weapons and med kits that I feel are important.

The first thing I’ll say is that putting aside the fact that there are no check points in Nightmare, Hard is actually harder than Nightmare. Nightmare seems to be Normal difficulty with no checkpoints. There are less Aliens, and less androids than in Hard. They also seem to die easier and do less damage to you.

Remember that some minor variations do occur from one play through to another. On one attempt a place will spawn five aliens and on the next attempt it will spawn six aliens. On one attempt a discarded pulse rifle will have 99 rounds and on the next attempt that same pulse rifle might only have 87 rounds. Also this is based on the un-patched game straight from the disk.

When you start you need to do what Tequila tells you when she tells you as trying to do it early does not shut her up it just gets you mad at having to listen to her crap over and over again every time you die. If you follow my method you should only have to listen to the beginning crap once, as you should be able to do it the first time without getting killed. Once Tequila uses the steam to deal with the first Alien and you go out into the hall run down the hall to shoot :l2: the Alien a couple of times before it is all the way out of the vent. If you didn’t kill it hit it in the head with the butt of your pistol :r1: then :l2: it twice more. It should be dead now but if not back up a few feet and do the :r1: :l2: again repeating the back up :r1: :l2: until it is.

Now follow the arrow on you HUD/MT until you enter the next building and go down the ramp. Don’t go all the way to the closed door. When you are about 10 feet away turn around and look up in the corner to the right of ramp. You should see the next Alien on the ceiling climbing out of a vent there. Try to :l2: it twice before it drops to the floor. Then run over to it and use the same :r1: :l2: back-up method to finish it off. Follow your HUD/MT get into the room with Tequila pick up the pulse rifle and ammo then listen to Tequila babble. Once she finally shuts up and you can leave go out into the corridor and deal with the next Alien. Use the same method except now you are butt stroking the Alien with your pulse rifle and not hitting it in the head with the butt of your pistol, and using :r2: to shoot the pulse rifle, :r1: :r2: back-up. Repeat if necessary, if not reload and follow your HUD/MT to the club.

Once you go up the second elevator start moving clockwise around the floor. Once the music starts five to seven aliens will spawn and you need to start running clockwise around the floor. After two or three laps you want to stop at the end of the longer of the two straight parts turn and try to kill an Alien. If there are no other close to the Alien you can wait until it gets to you so you can :r1: :r2: it. Once you kill it, turn and start running clockwise again. Every lap or two laps stop at the same place and do the same thing. If an Alien hits you while you are running, do not stop. Just run until you are healed. After you have killed all of the Aliens Tequila will send the elevator to you. Enter the elevator then follow your HUD/MT to the squad of Marines in C-Block.

In C-Block follow your HUD/MT upstairs to the barricade. The bugs kill the Marines trying to get around and over the barricade then cut the power. Follow the HUD/MT back downstairs to the sentry gun’s laptop. Interact with it then turn to look at the vent on the left. When the Alien comes out of the vent :r2: it. If you want you can :r1: :r2: it until it is dead, if not run upstairs and wait for it to get up there to be dealt with. At this point comes the most important part of this mission. PROTECT THE WM, (Woman Marine), you need her. You can still complete the mission without the WM if she gets killed but it is a lot harder. Keep on the same level as her, there will be two or three Aliens wandering around that need to be killed before the next part of the mission and they will kill the WM if you don’t protect her. Same as before keep using :r1: then :r2: until they are dead. Once they are dead you are told to head up to the barricade DO NOT go up there yet.

Wait until the WM goes into that room so she can help you. If you did what I said you should have full ammo for your pulse rifle including 4 grenades. Once the WM is in that room go up to the way-point. The door will close after you get there and the Aliens will start coming. The WM and the sentry gun will take care of most of the Aliens that come over the wall. If any seem to get a bit too far past the barricade, say maybe 10 feet, :l2: a grenade at them. Once you have used up your grenades :r2: them with the pulse rifle. If done correctly no Aliens should get to you before the door opens up again.

Once the door opens run out the door, down the first set of stairs go left and run to the elevator. The elevator is not there yet and waiting for it here is a real bad idea. Run back out of that hall and run all the way across the room to the far wall then turn and run back to the elevator which will now be there and get inside. As long as you don’t actually run into any of the Aliens you should make it into the elevator without taking any damage at all.

Now once you get out of the elevator take a breath as no Aliens will come into this room. The last step is easy however, before doing it remember, you will lose your pulse rifle at the end of this mission so grenades and ammo are irrelevant. Drop down through the hole and run. Do not shoot any of the Aliens in the tunnel and don’t bother to stop for ammo. Run right past the Aliens in the tunnel and they should not even touch you. The only damage you will take is when you jump down to the lower part of the tunnel. Aliens will be chasing you so don’t stop for anything.

Now you have one down with five more to go.

Once you gain control of your Marine run up to and jump/climb over the rocks then advance to make the alien retreat. There will be two aliens in these tunnels the first is usually found around the corner to the right at the first intersection. If it is not there then it will most likely on the big cylinder a few feet after your second left. The damn alien will run around the walls and ceiling aimlessly for a minute or two. When it gets down and comes at you :r1: :l2: it until it is dead. After that second left you need to make a right. The second alien is usually found far down the tunnel on the ceiling past and a bit to the right of the panel/grate/tile that is hanging down. :r2: it two or three times and it will come to you. It may run around on the wall for a minute or two also but it usually will come straight for you, :r1: :l2: it until it is dead. This is the last alien you should have to kill with your pistol.

Follow your objective marker down the tunnel take your right and after Tequila runs her mouth for a moment she will open the door for you. Ignore the aliens up to the left as they will just run off and I don't think you can kill them anyway. Before entering the building make sure to grab the shotgun from the ground around the corner about 30 or 40 feet to the right of the open door. Use your pistol on the face hugger in the room before the elevator as you need the shotgun ammo in a few minutes. Pick up more shotgun ammo on the way to the elevator. When you exit the elevator you will see a room at the end of the hall. This room hides another face hugger. If you enter slowly and stop every foot or two to look around you you will usually get the chance to calmly put two bullets from your pistol in the face hugger before it moves. The face hugger usually will spawn in one of four places. The face hugger waves it's tail when it is not walking so it is easy to spot if you are not moving and you are looking in it's general direction. The first place to look is toward the back at the corner of the consoles in the center of the room. You can see it from just inside the room. The next is on the window about 6 feet high near the center of the window. Stick to the rail with your right shoulder as you walk along the window side of the room while looking in the third and fourth face hugger spawn points. The third place is on the center platform near the wall on the other side. The fourth spawn point is near the ceiling by a vent on the opposite side from where you enter the room.

Before going up the stairs, just past them and to the left you will find ammo for your shotgun. After messing with the satellite up-link on the roof, when you get back into the room that just had the face hugger, there will be an alien. Sometimes it is in the little room to your right just as you enter the bigger room and sometimes it seems to spawn in mid air above you. Check the little room first looking for it just inside the door on the right. Sometimes you can :l2: it from outside the room and other times you need to run past it into the room spin around :r1: then :l2: it. Remember not to try :r1: :l2: if it is still on the wall as the acid splash will kill you. If it is not in there walk out, when you get about half way down the window side of the room you should hear it screech, hear your motion tracker, or have the alien land on you. Run back into that room and :r1: :l2: it as it comes in the door.

In the short hallway between the big room and the elevator an alien will come out of a vent. Walk into the hall way slowly and when you see the vent bulge, aim at it. As soon as the aliens head pokes out :l2: it. Now the elevator will take you to a level you have not been on yet. When you come out of the elevator go into the room on the left. There is about a 50% chance there will be an alien in this room towards the back right behind a free standing shelf. If so kill it using the usual method then grab the pulse rifle from the floor behind the left free standing shelf and equip it. If the alien was not in here go out into the hall and slowly walk down and take a left. There will be one Alien in the first hall if no alien was in the room you just left and one alien in the hall where you turn left to pick up the shotgun ammo and stimpack around the bend. Same as the upstairs hall aim at the vent as soon as you see it bulge out :r2: with the pulse rifle to kill it when you can see the aliens head. Follow the hall around picking up the above mentioned stimpack and shotgun ammo then exit the building.

About 10% of the time there will be a third alien on that floor so be prepared to deal with it. If you do not hear the motion tracker beeping away at you when you get to the stairs you should be ok. Slowly walk up to and between the first set of crates on the bridge keeping your eyes on the doors on the far side of the bridge. When you see the first alien come out turn around and run back up the hill, stopping just to the left of the tractor. Usually the first couple of aliens will get stuck on something while running along the side of the bridge. Back up as far as you can while still watching the aliens cross the bridge. When an alien gets within about 20 feet of you run around the back of the tractor and run across the bridge through the doors. Don't bother shooting any of the aliens just run past them. When you get through the door keep running past the objective marker, make the left turn and run to the yellow lights on either side of the tunnel. The door will close with all of those aliens still outside. One alien will spawn here after a few seconds but it will be easy to kill using :r1: :r2: with the pulse rifle.

Go right then left then right again. You will find ammo in one hall and behind the generator. The dead Marine you encounter is a trap. When you get to close to the corpse a face hugger will drop from the ceiling, crawl out from under the corpse or be found hiding in the puddle of water. Remember ammo conservation is important and since the hugger is all alone you should just use your pistol on it. Pass the objective marker and get the ammo from the back right corner.

Equip the shotgun and start the elevator hack. Six aliens will come for you just :r1: :l2: until all are dead, you have the entire mine to maneuver through so you should not have a big problem here. Go up the elevator grab the pulse rifle and shotgun. After Tequila babbles about Weyland, follow your objective marker past the vehicle and down the hall. Don't grab the pulse rifle near the fire yet. Take the hall on the left and go into that room slowly. Follow the objective marker slowly until you hear your motion detector or you hear an alien scream. Run back out of that room and into the little hall. Wait there for three aliens to come at you one at a time :r1: :r2: them. If you need to, you can retreat down the longer hall towards the room with the vehicle to give yourself room for dealing with them.

When those three aliens are dead go back through that room and out the other side ignoring the two pulse rifles on the floor but make sure to pick up the stimpack. Exit the room, take a let at the end of the short hallway and slowly advance until and alien comes out of a vent. As before aim at the vent as soon as it gets bent in and use the pulse rifle on the alien's head as soon as it is in view. Reload and go pick up those three pulse rifles you passed. You should now have a fully loaded shotgun with 21 to 24 spare shells and a pulse rifle that you are about to trade in. On the stairs you will find a flame thrower. Trade your pulse rifle in for the flame thrower and equip your pistol.

In this next room you will be on a raised platform with Van Zandt cocooned in the center, there are eleven eggs in here, one has hatched impregnated Van Zandt. For simplicity in giving instructions we will call this corner you enter from the southwest corner.

Using your pistol, destroy the three unhatched eggs from right in front of the door. If an egg hatches before you can destroy it, you can retreat into the stairwell because the face huggers will not follow you there. Do not approach Van Zandt as this will spawn five aliens and since there are still seven unhatched eggs in here you could find yourself running from seven face huggers and five aliens at the same time. Go to the Pulse rifle on the floor to the north then walk about 10 feet past it to the east. From there using the pistol, shoot the three eggs that are by the elevator to the north. If one of the eggs hatches, you should have plenty of room to to kill the face hugger before it gets close to you but still be careful to stay away from Van Zandt.

Once those three eggs are destroyed, go to the south side of the room avoiding Van Zandt. Turn east again and start walking, you will see three more eggs in the south east corner. Shoot them with the pistol, if any hatch you should have plenty of room to maneuver and avoid the face hugger until you can shoot it. However you still need to stay away from Van Zandt and also the northwest corner where you will find the last egg while trying to kill the face hugger.

Once you have destroyed the last egg in the northwest corner and there are no face huggers running around. Pick up the stimpack and flame thrower ammo from the northwest corner then you can approach Van Zandt. Pick up the flame thrower ammo from in front of Van Zandt. You should now have full health with 3 stimpacks, a full shotgun with 21 to 24 spare shell and a full flame thrower with fuel reserves of 700 to 800. The door to the stairwell in the southwest corner is now closed and five aliens will spawn. Switch to your shotgun, you have plenty of room to move around, just :r1: :l2: the five aliens. You should still have a full shotgun and 14 spare shells when you are done.

Coming out of the elevator have the shotgun equipped and walk towards the alien in the wall. As soon as it moves :l2: it. Go up the ramp slowly on the left side looking just around the corner to the right as soon as that alien in the wall moves :l2: it. Now back down a bit and move over to the right side, slowly go up the ramp looking for the alien in the wall around the left corner :l2: it at its first movement.

Next from the top of the ramp shoot the five eggs with your pistol. If any hatch make sure to kill the face huggers before you approach either of the side hallways or you will have aliens and face huggers to deal with at the same time. Drop down into the lower level where the five eggs you destroyed were. Walk across and go up the ramp to the left . Keep your eye on the alien on the wall in the hallway in front of you. As you get closer to it, it will wake up, kill it.

Don't walk all the way down the hallway yet because there are aliens sleeping in the wall in the room on either side of the hallway. At the the other side of the room at the end of the hallway you will see a couple of eggs by a dead Marine. You do not want to wake the aliens and hatch the eggs at the same time. From at least ten feet deep in the hallway shoot the eggs with your pistol. If any of the eggs hatch, make sure you kill the face huggers from deep in the hallway. They should be easy to kill and you have plenty of room to back up if they actually move towards you. They usually stay near the dead Marine though.

Once they are dead re-equip the shotgun and carefully enter the room close to the left wall of the hallway to wake the alien in the wall on that side :l2: it once it is moving. Now turn around and head toward the alien sleeping in the wall on the right side of the hallway and :l2: it once it starts moving. There is another hallway leading out of the room to the right of the dead Marine and between that dead Marine and the hallway there is another alien sleeping in the wall. Go kill that alien with the shotgun making note of but not picking up the pulse rifle along the way.

Go back through the last room towards the objective marker. There is an alien sleeping in the wall in the hallway. Kill it with the shotgun. Do not go all the way though the hallway into the next room yet. Shoot the eggs on the other side of the room from ten feet back in the hallway with the pistol like before.

There are two aliens sleeping in the walls in the room, one each on either side of the hallway. Approach either one and both will wake up. Use the shotgun on the first then retreat back into the hallway you just came from. Take care of this alien with the shotgun too. Go back towards the objective where you will find another alien asleep in the wall to the left just before the hallway. Take care of it with the shotgun.

Shoot the eggs with the pistol and kill any face huggers that hatch. You can use any remaining shotgun shells on the face huggers because you are about the trade the shotgun for a pulse rifle. Do not go near the objective marker yet.

Go back to the pulse rifle next to the dead Marine and pick it up, dumping the shotgun. You should have a full flame thrower with 990+ fuel reserves, a full pulse rifle with 3 full spare magazines and 4 grenades. Go back towards the objective but stick to the right side of the hallway and try to shoot two or three eggs in the next room with the pistol before triggering the objective marker and entering the next room. You have to be in the room before Tequila activates the switch for the first time or the game will glitch. Tequila will keep telling you "pull that lever", but it won't work and you will have to do the whole mission over again.

There are 20 face huggers in this room less any you managed to kill with the pistol before entering. Use the flame thrower on them. Once all of the face huggers are dead reload your weapons and run around collecting ammo. All of the ammo and stimpacks will re-spawn. Once your ammo and stimpacks are full and all of the ammo and stimpacks on the floor have re-spawned you are ready to pull the lever.

Pull the lever, back up and :l2: both of the glowing cluster of canisters hanging on either side of the queen. Now start running clockwise around the room. You need to kill four aliens before Tequila will reset the lever (if you are playing version 1.0 you will have to kill six aliens before Tequila will reset the lever). Run to the grenades near the tip of the egg sack then clockwise toward the back around the wall over to the grenades opposite of the first grenade set you ran to. Do not go near the grenades in the middle of the room. Now run up the ramp under the queen and off the other side of the platform back to the spawn point of the first grenade set. They will not have re-spawned yet though. This is the pattern you will run stopping twice per lap to launch a grenade at the aliens.

The first place you will stop is right where you come out from behind the wall, if there is an alien in sight at least 40 feet away from you :l2: it with a grenade. You don't want it to be close to you or the acid and or splash damage will kill you. The second place you will stop is on the platform right in above the lever. You need to be towards the front of the platform because an alien will jump past you and rake you with its claws. If you are towards the front of the platform it scratches your back, if you are towards the back of the platform the alien will pass in front of you scratching your chest doing the same amount of damage. The problem is that the alien passing in front blocks your grenade which results in your death from blast/acid splash damage if you fire at the easy kill in the center of the room. The alien scratching your back should not even take a full bar of health so you should heal completely before you stop again.

Once you have your four kills and Tequila resets the lever do an extra lap around the room to get a little distance from the aliens then run over to the lever and pull it.

Two down and four to go, best thing is this was the hardest one.

Got side tracked cleaning up 7 unfinished platinums

and a hand full of dlc trophies. I happen to intensly

dislike Video walkthroughs which is why I started this

walkthrough. For that matter most of my friends also

dislike video walkthroughs. Anyway I have written

the second part but it is too long to type using my

iphone. I will start posting it this coming week from

work but while I am waiting I am working my way

through the Marine Campaign on Nightmare again

using another profile and I am working on getting

the Jungle written down. I actually kinda F'ed up

and wound up with this game on all 4 of my profiles

so as I work to Platinium it on all of them I may

make some adjustments if I find easier ways to get

the missions complete.
