Welcome to the Challenges Guide thread for Aliens: Colonial Marines. In here, I will be listing each challenge and providing tips and advice on how to complete each one. This trophy is undoubtedly the hardest and most time consuming in the game and will be a make or break factor in earning the Platinum trophy for a lot of people. It's likely that you would have completed some of these challenges already, especially if you made an effort to begin working on them straight away but for the sake of consistency they will all be listed in this guide. There are also numerous areas that the challenges can be completed in, so please note that the areas I mention are not the only ones.

Before we start, please take a moment to read the notes below as they will describe how the thread will be organised and explain the terminology that will be used throughout.

Challenge Categories:

As previously mentioned in the Trophy Guide and Road Map, there are some challenges that can actually be completed outside of their recommended area. For example, there are a handful of challenges in the "Online Only" category that are actually a lot easier to complete Offline. In keeping with the game, all challenges that fall under this unique criteria will be listed under the category in which they appear in the game. Please remember that the game only allows three active challenges at one time and they must all be completed in the order shown in the category. Any progress towards later challenges is not counted.

The "Battle for Sulaco Area":

When you see a reference to the "Battle for Sulaco Area" in the guide, it is referring to the very first area in the second chapter "Battle for Sulaco". There are around 10 human enemies here, most of which tend to bunch together very closely and can be used to complete a number of challenges. Simply kill them all in whatever way you need to for the challenge and then restart the checkpoint. Your challenge progress from your previous run will still be intact.

The "Smart Gun Area":

When you see a reference to the "Smart Gun Area" in the guide, it is referring to the long corridor in the fourth chapter "No Hope in Hadley's". After you defend your position with the Sentry Turret, you will need to pick up a Smart Gun to proceed. A short while later you will enter a long corridor containing at least 30 Xenomorphs. The vast majority of the kill-based challenges can be easily farmed here by discarding the Smart Gun and using whichever weapon you need to earn the kills with. Once you reach the end of the corridor and hear O'Neal try to signal the other Marines on the radio, restart the checkpoint and you’ll be able to go through the whole corridor again with your challenge progress from the previous run still intact.

Boosting Online – The Last Hope Setup:

Almost all of the challenges (as of Patch 1.04) can actually be boosted Online in a Private match with only two people. If you decide to go down this route, then one of the parameters you can apply is Team Deathmatch on Last Hope. This is one of the smallest and simplest-to-navigate maps. If boosting kills, simply meet in the middle of the map (you should see a downed APC) and do whatever you need to do. Take note of the overgrowth at either end of this area, as this will spawn a Crusher when there are 3 minutes and 1 minute remaining respectively. To activate it press :square: when standing next to it as a Xenomorph. Similarly, there is also a Boiler located on the platform above the Crusher overgrowth which can be accessed by using :l1: to climb the wall as a Xenomorph.

Boosting Online – The Condemned Setup:

Similar in nature to the Last Hope setup, only this time you will need to create a Survivor game on the Condemned map. There are a few challenges which state that a certain action must be performed "on two enemies". At first glance, it would appear that you'd need a third person for these challenges (the person completing the challenge plus two victims,) however this is not the case. There is a very nifty little trick that you can use for these and you'll still only require two people for it.

On this map the Marine player must hack the security door to gain access to the Sentry Turret. Once you have it, pick it up and place it facing a wall so it won't hurt the Xenomorph player. Next, the Xenomorph will need to weaken both the turret and the Marine to the point where a single hit will kill them both. The Marine then needs to stand next to the turret and allow the Xenomorph to unleash one final attack. If done correctly, both the turret and Marine should both be destroyed and the corresponding challenge should be complete. This is because the game registers the destruction of a turret as a kill on an enemy.

Because there's no way to communicate between players on opposite teams, the Marine player will not be able to signal when his health has reached a low enough level. To combat this, you can implement a very simple system – allow the Xenomorph to hit you once and jump to signal that you can take another hit. When you think your health is low enough spin around on the spot to signal that you can't take any more damage without being killed, and make your way over to the turret. If you have something like Skype, you can simply chat to each other using that.

Descriptions Underneath Each Challenge:

Please note that the majority of these will only be brief and make reference to one of the scenarios mentioned above. A lot of the kill based ones are extremely straightforward and therefore do not require a great amount of detail. The challenges in the "Online Only" category will provide tips for both non-boosters and boosters.

Credit Where Credit Is Due:

Finally, I must give credit to my co-op partner, Grenadier_12 here. He worked with me to field test and refine a lot of these techniques to ensure that they were as efficient as possible. Thank you for your help, Grenadier.

With all of the essential points covered, let’s move on to the guide.

Online/Offline Challenges:

These are the challenges located in the top tier, of which there are 37 in total.

1) Field Modified - Purchase a Marine weapon upgrade.

Enter the "Arsenal Upgrades" menu and purchase an upgrade from any weapon once you have earned a Commendation by levelling up.

2) Spray N' Pray - Kill 5 enemies with hip fire.

Do not aim down the weapon's sight with :l1: and kill five enemies. The easiest way to do this is with a Shotgun.

3) Two For One - Kill two enemies with one shot from an Underslung Grenade Launcher.

Use the Grenade Launcher secondary fire on the Pulse Rifle as I found it to be a lot more effective. You can unlock this in the Battle for Sulaco area against the first two enemies that blast open the door.

4) Boom Stick - Kill 20 enemies using the Pump Shotguns primary fire.

Straightforward. If you don’t have it by the time you’ve finished the campaign, you can use the Smart Gun area.

5) Big Fucking Signal - Track 5 Xenomorphs at once on your Motion Tracker.

There are a lot of instances in the game where you'll encounter more than 5 Xenomorphs. Simply press :l2: to bring up your Motion Sensor to track them all. The Battle for Sulaco and Smart Gun areas are perfect for this.

6) Heavily Armed - Kill 7 enemies using a primary weapons alternate fire.

Simply use the secondary fire mode on any weapon and kill seven enemies with it. You do not need to kill all of them in one game or even with the same weapon.

7) Kill Or Be Killed - Kill 20 enemies with any rifles primary fire.

Straightforward. You can use the Pulse Rifle, Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle to complete this. The Smart Gun area is a good place to farm for this.

8) Straight Shooter - Get 10 headshots using the Service Pistol.

You do not need to kill enemies with the headshots, only achieve a headshot on them. The easiest way to do this is on Xenomorphs by shooting them in the neck area. There are plenty of them in the Smart Gun area.

9) Airtime - Kill 20 enemies that are climbing on the walls or ceiling.

Self-explanatory. The Smart Gun area is perfect for this as there are a lot of Xenomorphs climbing on the walls here. Stick with the Smart Gun as the auto-tracking really helps.

10) Pop Goes The Melon - Get 10 headshots on Xenomorphs with any rifle.

You can use either the Pulse Rifle, Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle for this. As with the previous headshot challenge you do not need to get a headshot kill, only register a shot on the head. This should come naturally over time, but use the Smart Gun area if you need to.

11) Short, Controlled Bursts - Do not miss an enemy with any bullets from a full rifle mag.

This can be a tricky one. Firstly you'll want to use the Battle Rifle as it has the lowest clip size, thus making this challenge easier. You can try to take one shot at a time and hope that you don't miss enemies, but the easiest way is to take advantage of the Raven. In the final fight in the fifth chapter you can actually hit the Raven with bullets, which will count towards this. The Raven is a fairly big target so you shouldn't have too many problems with this, especially if another player is able to corner it in co-op.

Alternatively, you can hide in the container when you are tasked with surviving the Queen. She won't be able to hit you, and you can register a lot of hit-markers on her as she stands outside. This may be a little glitchy though and doesn't work for everyone so bear this in mind. You can also boost it using the Last Hope setup if you wish.

12) Sharp Shooter - Kill 20 enemies that are 15m away or farther, using the Battle Rifle.

This is straightforward and should come naturally over time. I found the variable 2x-4x zoom sight to be the easiest to use. You can use the Smart Gun area for this by triggering the Xenomorphs and then running back and picking them off from a distance.

13) Trapper - Kill 20 enemies with Battle Rifle Mines.

Use the Battle for Sulaco area for this, as Humans are a lot easier to kill with Battle Rifle Mines. Providing that you score a direct hit on them, it's a one shot kill.

14) Second To None - Kill 15 enemies with any side arm.

Use any pistol and register 15 kills with it. I found the Combat Pistol to be more effective when upgrade with full-auto fire, but the choice is yours. The Battle for Sulaco area is a good place for this.

15) Carry A Big Stick - Kill 3 enemies with a primary weapons alternate fire without dying.

This is not as hard as it sounds, as you do not need to kill three enemies at once, only a total of three. Use an Underslung Grenade Launcher in the Battle for Sulaco area.

16) Back On Your Feet - Revive 5 other players in Coop Campaign or Versus Matches.

Self-explanatory but you will need another person for this. It's easier to complete this in the campaign, but you can venture Online and play Survivor or Escape if you prefer.

17) Equal Opportunity - Kill 20 enemies using the Combat Pistol.

Self-explanatory. The Smart Gun area is a good place to farm for this. Try to upgrade your Pistol a little first so you'll have more of a fighting chance.

18) Set Em Up, Knock Em Down - Kill 10 enemies with Claymores, Mine Launcher Mines or Acid Traps.

You can use the Battle Rifle Mines for this as it’s the easiest one. As with the previous challenge involving them, use the Battle for Sulaco area.

19) Spread The Love - Kill 2 enemies within 10 seconds using the SMG.

Easy if you use the Battle for Sulaco area. You can kill the first two enemies that blast through the door and still have lots more left over if you don’t get it.

20) Xenophobia - Kill 10 Soldier, 10 Lurker or 10 Spitter Xenos.

Straightforward. Use the Smart Gun area if you haven’t already completed this one.

21) Blown To Hell - Kill 20 enemies using the Assault Rifles Grenade Launcher.

The Assault Rifle Grenade Launcher isn’t particularly effective against Xenomorphs, so you're going to want to use it against Humans. Load up the Battle for Sulaco area and let those grenades fly.

22) Make It Count - Shoot enemies with an entire clip using the Service Pistol without missing or reloading.

This can be tricky. I found the easiest place to complete this to be the Battle for Sulaco area. You're going to want to wait until the enemies are standing still or crouching in cover and slowly shoot them with one bullet at a time. If you fail, reload the Pistol and try again or the Checkpoint if you run out of enemies. Don't forget to take adequate cover yourself because even on Recruit difficulty, you won't be able to sustain a lot of damage if you're having to take your time like this.

23) Down But Not Out - Kill an enemy while incapacitated.

You can complete this online, but it's much easier to do it in the offline campaign. You'll need a second player though, as you can't enter the incapacitated state on your own. The Battle for Sulaco area is a good one for this. Allow yourself to be killed and then kill an enemy with your Pistol whilst down. Your co-op partner can help out by weakening the enemy for you too.

24) Amateur Surgeon - Decapitate a Xenomorph.

Simple. Use the Smart Gun area for multiple chances at this. Using the Smart Gun itself is very effective too, as it frequently decapitates Xenomorphs when killing them.

25) Flash Fire - Kill 2 enemies with fire damage within 10 seconds.

You can use a Flamethrower or any fire-based weapon for this. I found the easiest method to be throwing a Firebomb and killing the first two enemies that burst through the door in the Battle for Sulaco area.

26) Judge, Jury And Executioner - Execute 20 enemies using the Pulse Rifles primary fire.

Self-explanatory. Use the Smart Gun area to farm for this.

27) Shotty Workmanship - Kill 20 enemies using the Tactical Shotguns primary fire.

Self-explanatory. Use the Smart Gun area to farm for this.

28) Keep Up The Fire - Kill 6 enemies in under 60 seconds using the SMG.

This is not as difficult as you may think. Load up either the Battle for Sulaco or Smart Gun area on Recruit difficulty and kill everything that moves. You should get this with plenty of time to spare.

29) Reflex Action - Kill 5 Xenomorphs that are inside a vent using the Pump Shotgun.

This should come naturally during a campaign playthrough, but you can use the Smart Gun area to farm for it if need be. You will need to be quick however, as the Xenomorphs in this area will not stay in the vents for long.

30) The Silent Killer - Kill 5 enemies using a suppressor on the Battle Rifle.

Self-explanatory. The Battle for Sulaco area is the best area for this.

31) Amputation - Remove 20 limbs from Xenomorphs using the Tactical Shotgun.

Self-explanatory. Use the Smart Gun area for this.

32) Stand Your Ground - Make the killing shot on a crusher using the Service Pistol.

This is tricky. You can try for this Offline in the campaign, but you may find that the A.I makes the killing shot more often than not. With that said, it's easier than trying for it legit Online, as a human-controlled Crusher is even more formidable. If all else fails, you may wish to boost this using the Last Hope setup.

33) Combined Arms - Use the Combat Pistol to kill 10 enemies that were on fire.

This is actually a little harder than it sounds, mainly because the game doesn't always register the kills. The easiest way to go about this would be to use the Smart Gun area. Throw a Firebomb in front of a Xenomorph's path and then quickly switch to your Combat Pistol to finish it off. Make sure that you do not score a direct hit with the Firebomb as this may kill them outright. Humans aren't an option for this one as they die too quickly from fire.

34) Feel The Burn - Kill 20 enemies using Firebombs.

Straightforward, just a little time consuming. Use the Battle for Sulaco area, as Humans die very quickly from a Firebomb hit.

35) Assault With Intent - Kill 20 enemies using the Assault Rifles primary fire.

Self-explanatory. Use the Smart Gun area for this, but bear in mind that the Assault Rifle is burst-fire only.

36) Light Em Up - Kill 20 enemies using the Assault Rifles Underslung Flamethrower.

Another simple but time consuming challenge. It's up to you which area you use for this one. Make sure that you weaken the enemy with a few shots first before finishing them off with the Flamethrower.

37) Shock Trooper - Kill 20 enemies that were stunned using the Tactical Shotguns Arc Rounds.

This is straightforward but a little time consuming. You can actually use the Arc Rounds to stun an enemy and then kill them with the Primary fire of the Tactical Shotgun. Use the Smart Gun area for this.

Campaign Challenges:

These challenges are located in the middle tier, of which there are 13 to complete.

1) Solid Legs - Complete a campaign mission on any difficulty.

Self-explanatory. You should already have this from your campaign playthrough.

2) Splattered - Gib 5 enemies in a single campaign mission.

To "gib" an enemy means to make them physically explode. Underslung Grenade Launchers and Battle Rifle Mines are your friends here. You should have plenty of ammo between these three weapons to pull this off in one mission. Remember, Humans are easier to "gib" than Xenomorphs, so use the Battle for Sulaco area if you need to.

3) Better Than Harsh Language - Kill 5 enemies with melee in a single campaign mission.

This is tricky as you're more likely to die from trying to melee an enemy. This is one of the very rare challenges where restarting the checkpoint does not carry over the progress, so you won't be able to rely on that here. Xenomorphs are notoriously difficult to kill with a melee, plus the :r3: animation that sometimes occurs whereby your Marine executes them does not count as a melee kill. Because of this, you're going to want to try this against Humans in the Battle for Sulaco area. Use your Service Pistol and fire two shots at an enemy to weaken them first, then rush in for the melee kill. Make sure that you take adequate cover afterwards and pick up any health/armour if need be, as dying will reset your progress. Don't worry if you run out of enemies in this area, as the rest of the chapter contains a lot more Human enemies.

4) Nice Groupings - Kill 2 enemies with a single shot from the Pump Shotgun.

This is difficult. You're going to want a nice and narrow area to get this on. Whilst not perfect, the Smart Gun area is as good a place as any to try for this. Allow the Xenomorphs to charge at you and blast away at them with the Shotgun. You should catch two of them in the blast but if not, restart the checkpoint and try again.

5) Tactical Supremacy - Kill 6 enemies with Tactical weapons in a campaign mission.

Tactical weapons are Frag Grenades (not Underslung Grenades,) Firebombs and Claymores. Use Firebombs on the Battle for Sulaco area for this one.

6) Double Tap - Kill 2 enemies that are stunned in a campaign mission.

Use the Arc Rounds on the Tactical Shotgun in the Smart Gun area for this. Very straightforward and shouldn't take you too long to complete.

7) Bug Hunter - Kill 5 Facehuggers.

This is straightforward, but time consuming as Facehuggers are surprisingly rare. Load up the first chapter "Distress" and play through it until you reach the Facehugger area. You should find at least three of them that you can kill, after which you can simply restart the checkpoint and repeat the process.

8) Sawbones - Remove a total of 20 limbs from Xenomorphs.

This should come naturally over time, but you can drastically speed it up by using the Smart Gun in the Smart Gun Area. This weapon has a very high chance of removing limbs from Xenomorphs, and the auto-tracking feature on it really helps.

9) Iron Fist - Kill 10 enemies with melee in a single campaign mission without dying.

As with the earlier melee challenge, you're going to want to try for this in the Battle for Sulaco area on Recruit difficulty. Take your time and don’t go blindly rushing in. Remember to weaken the enemies with a couple of shots from the Service Pistol first before moving in for the melee kill.

10) Superior Firepower - Kill 2 enemies with the Smart Gun, Flamethrower or RPG in a campaign mission.

You should know how to complete this one, given the amount of times I've mentioned a certain area...

11) Inside Out - Kill 5 enemies with explosives in a campaign mission.

Use the Underslung Grenade Launcher and/or Battle Rifle Mines in the Battle for Sulaco area for this one.

12) Battle Hardened - Complete a campaign mission on Hardened or higher difficulty.

Self-explanatory. Please refer to the trophy guide for more information regarding this.

13) Ultimate Badass - Complete a campaign mission on Ultimate Badass.

Self-explanatory. Please refer to the trophy guide for more information regarding this.

Online Only Challenges:

These challenges are located in the bottom tier and contain some of the most difficult challenges in the game. There are a total of 36 to complete.

1) Mutation - Purchase a Xenomorph combat upgrade.

Simply purchase any combat upgrade from the Xenomorph Loadout menu. Remember that you will need to be at least Level 2 to purchase an upgrade.

2) Eggstermination - Win an Extermination mode match.

Nothing else to add here. Stick together to improve your chances of winning.

3) Survivalist - Win a Survivor mode match.

Marines are considerably more powerful in Survivor than Xenomorphs, so use this to your advantage. Set up Sentry Turrets and use the available weaponry to help you.

4) Escape Artist - Win an Escape mode match.

Sticking together as the Marines is vital here. You are considerably more powerful than the Xenomorphs here and providing that the four of you stick together at all times, you should be virtually untouchable.

5) Victorious - Kill 25 enemies in Team Deathmatch.

Straightforward and will come over time. Nothing else to add here.

6) Raking Claws - As a Soldier Xeno, kill 10 enemies with Quick Strike.

This is the default primary attack for the Soldier Xenomorph. Remember to make use of your Xenomorph vision and try to sneak up on unsuspecting Marines.

7) Spit In Your Eye - As a Spitter Xeno, kill 10 enemies with Acid Spit.

Acid Spit is the default primary attack for the Spitter Xenomorph. This is a little trickier than the previous challenge, mainly because the Acid Spit isn't as effective. You will need to hold down the :r1: button to charge up the spit, aim using the reticle and then unleash it on an enemy Marine. On a Team Deathmatch game, it will take two fully charged spits to kill a Marine who has full health. The Spitter Xenomorph is considerably weaker at close range than the other classes, so you're going to want to keep your distance when trying for this. Remember that when a spit is fully charged, the speed of your Xenomorph will slow down considerably, so don't keep it charged for too long.

8) Cat-Like Reflexes - As a Lurker Xeno, pounce on three enemies in less than 20 seconds.

You will need to purchase and apply the Speed Pounce upgrade for this one, which can only be bought at Level 14 onwards. When using Speed Pounce a Xenomorph will pin down a Marine and slash them, before jumping off and retreating. This is actually more manageable than it sounds, mainly because you can use the move on the same person three times. Pounce on them, wait for them to get back up and then repeat. Whilst the enemy Marine is getting back up, they will not be able to shoot, so you should have plenty of time to get this. If you’re struggling with this, then you can try boosting for it online using the Last Hope setup.

9) Heads Up - As a Xeno, kill an enemy from the wall or ceiling.

The easiest way to do this would be to climb to the ceiling and use a spit attack from the Spitter Xenomorph. Hold the :l1: button to climb walls and use the analogue sticks to navigate. Remember to keep the :l1: button held in order to stay on the wall, and then charge up a Spit attack. The Extermination game mode is probably the best mode for this, as enemy Marines will tend to stay in one place when capturing an egg cluster, improving your chances. You can also destroy a turret in a game of Survivor – it'll take four fully charged spits to do so.

10) Sentry Duty - Destroy 5 Sentry turrets.

You can only earn this as a Xenomorph in a game of Survivor. When an enemy Marine deploys a Sentry Turret, you will need to destroy it. The easiest way to do so would be to keep your distance with a Spitter and use a fully charged Acid Spit attack. It’ll take four in order to destroy a turret. Alternatively, you can chose to boost this to speed it up if you wish, using the Condemned setup.

11) Two Birds - Kill two enemies with one shotgun blast.

This challenge is identical to its offline counterpart, and you can actually complete it Offline. Use the Smart Gun area and refer to the other challenge for tips and advice.

12) Scout - Track 50 Xenomorphs on the Motion Tracker.

This one can also be completed Offline, using the Smart Gun area. Use the Motion Tracker (:l2:) in this area and you will complete it in no time.

13) Blunt Force - As a Soldier Xenomorph, kill 10 enemies with Heavy Strike.

You will need to purchase and apply the Heavy Strike upgrade before attempting this. Although the Heavy Strike is slower, it’s still a very powerful attack and shouldn't give you too many problems, especially if you combine it with the Hollow Exoskeleton mutation to increase your speed.

14) Hawked It All Up - As a Spitter Xenomorph, kill 2 enemies at once with a single fully charged Spit attack.

This is one of the hardest, if not the hardest challenge to complete legitimately. The likelihood of getting two enemy Marines together is very slim, even if you play the Extermination game mode. The only advice I can offer here is to play Extermination as Marines will bunch together when capturing egg clusters and hope that you get lucky.

You may wish to consider boosting this one using the Condemned setup. If you do, spit three times at the Sentry Turret to weaken it sufficiently and then do the same with the enemy Marine. Once both are sufficiently weakened, have the Marine stand next to the turret and unleash one final attack. Refer to the notes section at the top of the guide for more information.

15) Ricochet - As a Spitter Xenomorph, kill 10 enemies with Acid Rebound.

You will need to purchase and apply the Acid Rebound upgrade first. This attack is very similar to Acid Spit, only that it has more of a rebound effect and is slightly weaker. Refer to the Acid Spit challenge for tips and advice, but bear in mind that it may take three hits to kill an enemy Marine. As with the other challenges, the Last Hope setup is there if you need it.

16) Kill Em While They're Down - As a Lurker Xenomorph, kill an enemy after knocking them down with Speed Pounce.

An extension of the previous Speed Pounce challenge. I used Speed Pounce and then unleashed Flurry straight after and got this with no problems.

17) Fire In The Hole - As a Marine, kill 25 Xenos using the Smart Gun, Flamethrower or RPG.

It’s much quicker to complete this challenge offline in the Smart Gun area.

18) Berserker - As a Soldier Xenomorph, kill 10 enemies with Flurry.

Flurry is actually a very powerful attack and the preferred ability for most, as it allows you to continue slashing whilst moving. You shouldn't have any problems completing this if you remember to purchase and apply it first and make use of your Xenomorph sight.

19) Stepped In It - As a Spitter Xenomorph, kill 5 enemies with Acid Trap.

You will need to purchase and apply the Acid Trap upgrade first. There are two ways to go about this – you can use the ability as a regular spit attack and kill Marines with it that way, or you can use it in the intended way and use it to lay traps. You can choose the latter but you'll find it much easier to use it as a regular spit attack. Remember that the Last Hope setup is available if you wish to use it.

20) Shock And Awe - As a Lurker Xenomorph, hit 2 enemies with a single Shockwave Pounce attack.

You will need to purchase and apply the Shockwave Pounce upgrade first. This is nowhere near as difficult as the "Hawked It All Up" challenge, as you only need to hit two enemies and not kill them. The best way to go about this would be to play an Extermination or Escape game, as Marines tend to stick together in these modes. If you're still having trouble with it, you may wish to boost it using the Condemned setup.

21) Hard Boiled - As a Marine, kill 5 Xenomorph Boilers during a multiplayer match.

Play Team Deathmatch for this one. Each map has two spots that a Xenomorph can use to turn itself into a Boiler. A Boiler can take slightly more punishment than a regular Xenomorph and explodes when killed, the radius of which is reasonably large. This is one that should come over time but you can use the Last Hope setup to speed it up if you wish. Please note that the wording of this challenge is a little misleading. You do not need to kill five Boilers in one match, just a total of five over your career.

22) Extended Reach - As a Lurker Xenomorph, kill 5 enemies using Lunging Strike.

You will need to purchase and apply the Lunging Strike upgrade first. The Lunging Strike sacrifices speed and accuracy for a longer range. Unlike the Speed Pounce, you only need to lunge at and pin a Marine down once and the Xenomorph will continue to slash at it until the Marine is killed. This should come over time, but you can use the Last Hope setup once.

23) Liquefy - Kill 8 enemies with acid damage.

Any ranged attack (or the Acid Strike ability) from the Spitter Xenomorph qualifies as an acid attack. Use whichever one you wish to complete this challenge.

24) Mercy Killer - Use the Combat Pistol to kill 5 enemies that were covered in fire.

This is identical to its offline counterpart. Use the Smart Gun area for this and refer to the "Combined Arms" challenge for more information.

25) Left A Mark - As a Spitter Xenomorph, kill 10 enemies with Acid Strike.

You will need to purchase and apply the Acid Strike ability first. Acid Strike is a slash attack that coats an enemy in acid. A fairly decent attack, it gives the Spitter Xenomorph more of a fighting chance in close combat. Remember to make use of your Xenomorph vision to try and ambush Marines, as you won't fare well in a head on firefight.

26) Trap Sprung - As a Marine, kill 25 Xenomorphs using Claymore mines.

Unfortunately, you can't complete this challenge offline so you'll have to do it online. Make sure that you plant your Claymores in strategic locations such as doorways, or inside the capture zone in Extermination. If you use your mines strategically, you can earn a few kills per game. It's a slow process but one that will happen eventually. If you wish to speed it up, then you can use the Last Hope setup.

27) Flurry Finish - As a Lurker Xenomorph, kill an enemy with Flurry after a Speed Pounce.

The hardest part of this challenge is executing the Speed Pounce. Remember to use your Xenomorph vision to sneak up on unsuspecting Marines (Extermination is a good mode for this, as many Marines tend to stand still when destroying egg clusters) and then unleash the Flurry move. Remember to purchase and apply both of these upgrades, and that the Last Hope setup is available should you need it.

28) Sliced And Diced - As a Soldier Xenomorph, kill 2 enemies with a single Whirlwind attack.

This is tricky to complete the legitimate way. It's possible, but will require a lot of luck. The best way to go about this would be to play an Extermination game, as Marines tend to group together when destroying egg clusters. This is probably the best opportunity that you're going to get unfortunately, and you may wish to resort to the Condemned setup. If you choose to do so, remember to weaken the turret with three spits first. This time you will need to use a single swipe (Quick Strike) to weaken it further, as a Whirlwind attack is not powerful enough to destroy it outright after three spits.

29) Uncrushable - As a Marine, kill 5 Xenomorph Crushers during a multiplayer match.

The wording of this challenge is misleading. You do not need to kill five Crushers in a single match, just a total of five across your career. Remember to shoot a Crusher either in the side or back, as its front is highly damage resistant. A Crusher take a huge amount of punishment, so don't expect one to go down easily. Again, this is a challenge that will come over time and there's not really much else to add other than to hope you score the killing shot. If you're struggling with this, the Last Hope setup is available should you choose to use it.

30) Acid Bath - As a Spitter Xenomorph, kill 10 enemies with the Rupture Mutation.

You will need to purchase and apply this ability before attempting this challenge. The Rupture mutation allows the Spitter Xenomorph to explode and damage all nearby enemies when it's killed. Overall this shouldn't be too tricky if you use the Acid Strike ability to weaken an enemy first, but keep the Last Hope setup in mind if you’re struggling with this one.

31) Free Hugs - As a Lurker Xenomorph, kill 20 enemies using the Pounce attack.

To clarify, this challenge refers to the default ability simply titled "Pounce". No other variants of this will not count towards this challenge. This is another challenge that will come over time. Extermination is the best mode for this as Marines tend to stand still when destroying egg clusters. This challenge will take a while to complete, but it will come over time. The Last Hope setup is there if you wish to use it.

32) Easy Prey - As a Soldier Xenomorph, kill an enemy after stunning them with Bludgeon.

Not as hard as you may think, but remember that you will need to purchase and apply the Bludgeon ability first. When used on a Marine the Bludgeon ability will temporarily stun him/her, leaving them vulnerable to additional attacks. Simply stun them with this ability (the Extermination game mode is best for reasons already mentioned) and finish them off with whatever other attack you wish.

33) From The Shadows - As a Lurker Xenomorph, kill 5 enemies without taking any damage.

Please note that you do not need to kill five enemies in a row without taking damage, only a total of five across your career. I actually found it easier to not rely on Pounce-based attacks for this, and used Flurry instead. Take advantage of your Xenomorph vision and use the Hollow Exoskeleton to increase your movement speed. You should easily be able to sneak up on enemy Marines using this combination.

34) Alpha - As a Xenomorph, kill 5 Marines without dying.

This one can be tricky but it's far from impossible. Make sure to play tactically and don't go rushing in to a head-on firefight. Use the Xenomorph vision to sneak up on enemies, and combine it with the Hollow Exoskeleton mutation and Flurry attack for a lethal combination. The Adrenaline Rush ability is also very useful – not only will it further increase your movement speed and allow you to escape but it'll enable health regeneration, which is crucial to your killing spree.

Alternatively, if you're able to change your Xenomorph into a Crusher, this will be fairly straightforward. The Crusher can take a huge amount of punishment, especially head-on and the charge attack is a one hit kill on a Marine.

35) Ace - As a Marine, kill 5 Xenomorphs without dying.

This is much easier than its Xenomorph counterpart. The Survivor or Escape game modes are the way to go for this, mainly because Marines are considerably powered-up in these modes and can take a greater amount of punishment. You don't really need a great deal of protection from your teammates either, as you should always win in a one-on-one fight against a Xenomorph. To give you an idea of how possible it is to complete this challenge, I was frequently able to kill 8-10 Xenomorphs without dying in these modes, just because of how powerful the Marines are.

36) Hard To Kill - Completed an Escape Match without being incapacitated.

This one can be tricky if you don't have a good team with you. Although the Marines are considerably beefed-up in Escape, you’re still going to need protection from your teammates. Stick together with the other Marines at all times and make use of the weaponry that’s available. Set up Sentry Turrets to guard your position, weld doors shut to block enemy access to your position, and pick up the Smart Gun/RPG/Flamethrower and armour/health packs whenever possible.

Terminator has confirmed that you can also complete this challenge by playing an Escape game by yourself offline.

dont know if its been mentioned before but a quick tip for

3) Better Than Harsh Language - Kill 5 enemies with melee in a single campaign mission

and

9) Iron Fist - Kill 10 enemies with melee in a single campaign mission without dying

if you find you keep getting killed before hitting the target of 5 or 10 because you a rushing in i found it easier if done online as you can just run at enemies and melee like hell, you should be able to kill a few and then if you get incapacitated as long as you are revived you can carry on to the target of 5 or 10

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think that these challenges can be done online as they state that the parameters must be met in a campaign mission only.

I would share a couple of tips for those challenges, whose counter restarts whenever you die or restart a checkpoint.

While in coop (surely offline/ split screen coop, but maybe even during online coop), you can be revived without restarting the counter.

But more interesting is that you can keep your counter going restarting the mission instead of the checkpoint.

I did the 10 melee kills challenge that way: i killed the first two wei-yu soldiers in battle for sulaco, then restarted the mission, rinse and repeat until i reached 10 kills.

Hope that will be helpful :)

Online Only Challenges:

8) Cat-Like Reflexes - As a Lurker Xeno, pounce on three enemies in less than 20 seconds.

Great guide, although one mistake w/ the description of the challenge I quoted.

You actually have to do the 3 pounces in less than 10 (TEN) seconds.. not 20 seconds...

& It's doable w/ 2 Humans/1 Xeno... I was the Xeno and got it no problem on two friends of mine.. & you DON'T need Speed Pounce as my Xeno is only Level 9 and I did it perfectly fine...

Either way, great guide nonetheless..

The 1.04 patch increased the duration to 20secs so the description is correct:

  • Added additional safeguards to better protect save data.
  • Resolved an issue where a player's level could sometimes appear incorrect when backing out of a party.
  • Addressed several scenarios under which players could spawn without a weapon.
  • Changes to better prevent audio from sometimes cutting out during end of mission cinematics.
  • Fixed issue where Xeno death animation was not properly calculating momentum of the killing blow.
  • Smart Gun animation now properly tracks targets.
  • Addressed some instances where Xenos would display erratic animations.
  • Increased light radius for player's shoulder lamp.
  • Adjusted aim assist to better reflect player input.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes.

Campaign

  • Tweaked enemy and friendly AI to be more aggressive and responsive.
  • Modified campaign difficulty to account for improved AI responsiveness.
  • Improved enemy collision detection regarding doors and Power Loader.
  • Players will no longer bleed out immediately when downed in a Power Loader.

Versus

im not saying either 10 or 20 secs is right or wrong, but i got that challenge in an online verses game, just me and one other person. i also did it as a low level xeno with just the regular pounce, and NOT the speed pounce. now as the regular pounce kills the marine (regular pounce jumps on the marine and kills them, speed pounce jumps on the marine but lets the marine get back up correct?) , i must of been very quick, and had lucky spawn points to meet up with my boosting partner and pounce on him and kill him 3 times in 10 seconds :confused:

I've found great way for Hawked it all up challenge.

It's that challenge where You need to kill 2 enemies with one Spit from Spitter.

And guide is not helping much with this one...

- First off all, get a boosting partner, one will be enought.

- Than start the whole Condemned setup (Versus > Survivor > Private Match > Condemned map).

- Marine needs to put a turret with front to the wall (everything like normal so far).

- Now the player playing Xeno needs to stand in some upper level (Marine can push a button and move up this lift which is in the middle of room).

Now is the main part...

- As Xeno (standing above) take away whole Armor from marine (just armor! leave 3 health bars)

- Now shoot turret 2 times, so it will start sparking.

- Now Marine neeeds to stand near turret, the best place is in front of it.

- Xeno should take one precise and fully charged spit to take away both marine and turret.

I'm writing it, because I was having problems with my friend doing it.

Either him or the turret were dying first.

But with the method when Xeno goes up, and takes away armor from marine and damage turret till it sparks...it popped on the first try.

Well I can take a picture of it right now, it even says 10 seconds in game and I'm playing w/ Patch v1.05...

That is strange. I put 20 seconds on the description based on the 1.04 changelog, but if it can be confirmed that the challenge can't be completed between 10-20 seconds, then I'll gladly change it. :)

When I was playing on Version 1.04, any pounce apart from the Speed Pounce from the Xeno wouldn't release the Marine and would just kill him outright. I couldn't get three in the allotted time if I used these, unless they've changed these since the last time I played.

Challenge Categories:

As previously mentioned in the Trophy Guide and Road Map, there are some challenges that can actually be completed outside of their recommended area. For example, there are a handful of trophies in the "Online Only" category that are actually a lot easier to complete Offline.

Going through the guide again and noticed this... I assume you meant "handful of challenges"?
