Introduction:

Jambo and welcome to Afrika!!! Here you will see and document some of the greatest splendors that nature has to offer. You will be tasked to research and record these splendors for various clients. To accomplish these tasks, you will be fitted with some top-of-the-line Sony (of course) photography equipment along with some safari gadgets. Although this is fairly fun and novel for while, the luster is lost after the 30th mission or so. (There are over 100 missions.) Pair this with some truly baffling development decisions (e.g. game modes that are only available from the title screen and the inability to quit to the title screen mid-game) and you may find yourself dragging to the finish line. That said, the game handles well enough, some of the visuals are truly outstanding, and you will get to see some fairly exotic creatures. The bottom line is this: your enthusiasm for the animal kingdom will heavily dictate how much joy you derive from this game. Now, as for the trophies, the assessment is very similarly torn: This game is pretty darn easy (provided that you have an appropriate guide ;)) but it will take a decent amount of time and patience. Lucky for you, there is a wealth of information on this game and I’ve taken the liberty to compile much of it here. So, without further delay, I give you the road map proper…

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Download and save the following mission guide: Afrika PDF Mission Guide Download. This trophy guide makes heavy use of the above mission guide. Big thanks to kyleripman for compiling such an awesome guide and letting us use it here. :respect:

Step 2: Play the game. Well, duh, right? This game is broken into about 120 little photography assignments and each of these “missions” is given to you in the form of an e-mail request. Some missions require that you accept them by answering “OK”. These are integral or main missions. All the other ones can be considered secondary. In the end, however, if you wish to obtain the platinum, you will have to do ALL of the missions, primary and secondary. Most of the time, you complete missions by taking a photograph of the desired animal and replying to the e-mail request with an attachment of your photo. While this is the basic game-play mechanic of the game, here are some “advanced” pointers that will greatly minimize the amount time you spend later on mopping up:

  • You don’t have to worry about the rating of your pictures, since all they effect is how much cash you are awarded. In other words, you will complete a mission no matter how poorly your picture is rated, provided that it fulfills the given requirements.
  • The first e-mail of the game determines those animals that are unlocked in your “animal encyclopedia”. In order for an animal to be recorded in the encyclopedia, you must reply to this e-mail. This means if a mission has you photograph a giraffe for the first time and you reply to the mission’s e-mail to complete it but do nothing else, the giraffe will not yet be record to your encyclopedia.
  • The vast majority of animals in this game are directly tied to missions. However, there are some that are not. Among those that are not, there are some animals whose photos are required in order for later missions to become available (e.g. the hyrax). So, if you find that you are missionless but still have some missions to complete, start looking for animals in your encyclopedia that need to be photographed.
  • While you can not teleport (during the day) to the various areas of the map, you can teleport back to the base camp whenever you want, except when being attacked by an animal. To do this, pull up the in game menu by pressing :triangle:, then select “End Safari”. This will save you a ton of driving time.
  • Save your game before you quit this game. The game has an autosave feature, but it does not always initiate when you want it to. The last thing you want is to have to reshoot some tedious photos because you didn’t save.
  • In this game, animals typically appear in the same general location. However, there will be instances in which an animal fails to appear. They will eventually reappear in that location, but it may take many visits on many different (in game) days for this to happen. This is when your patience will be tried the most.
  • There are some animals that won’t show up until you complete a given mission or perform a particular task. This can be especially annoying when you’re given a mission to photograph an animal that is never there. (This happened with the red-billed oxpecker mission for me). If this happens, try to advance the game by finding some other animal or completing other missions, or both.
  • Use the mission guide as necessary to help you along your way. If you’re having a hard time figuring out which mission is which, just fail the mission (by submitting a picture without the objective) and the mission number will be revealed. You can use this number to find the mission in the mission guide.

Step 3: Mop up. As long as you’ve completed all the missions, there should only be a few more trophies left. These will be completed once you mop up the remaining animals missing from your encyclopedia and find the bottle, which is located next to the water falls at the Polepole Falls in Choroa Gorge.

Non-secret Trophies

43.jpg  Item Complete (G)

Get all the items

There are 20 items in total and the ones you have are located under the “tools” menu. All of the items are mission related, save one: the bottle. Just complete all the missions and then go get the bottle at the Polepole Falls in Choroa Gorge whenever you’re ready. I’ve provided a decent strategy for acquiring the bottle in the “Find Bottle” trophy.

44.jpg  Mission & Big Game Trophy Complete (G)

Complete all the missions and the big game trophy

You will need to complete every mission to get this trophy. As mentioned in the road map, some missions require an animal to be photographed before they become available. As long as you photograph every animal in the game, all the e-mail missions will become available. There are a few Big Game events that do not have an accompanying e-mail. They are as follows:

  • Big Game #9: This is a white rhino fight. It is triggered by driving around the southeast area of the Duma Steppe, but not until you're pretty far into the game. Do a search for "Big Game #9" in the mission guide for more context.
  • Big Game #18: This is a cheetah mounting your car. You trigger this by approaching the cheetah’s den/mound in the eastcentral area of the Dumma Steppe. You will almost definitely initiate this when trying to complete the e-mail mission that requires you to photograph a cheetah in the sunset.
  • Big Game #20: This is stand off between a lion and an elephant. You will trigger this event while you’re flying in the hot-air ballon for the final safari mission.

45.jpg  Complete Animal Encyclopedia (G)

Complete the Animal Encyclopedia

This is the mother of all the trophies in this game. The vast majority of you encyclopedia will be filled out by completing the missions, as long as you remember to always reply to the first e-mail with new animals. Here is a link to a complete animal list along with some maps: Animal List and Maps.

Remember, there are no missable animals. That said, some animals may not always appear in the location given in the location list above. The operative word in the previous sentence is "always". If an animal doesn't appear in the listed location, then you should go back to the base camp, rest and go back to check the location the next (in game) day. You may have to do this many, many times, but the animal will eventually appear.

38.jpg  Find Bottle (S) (H)

Find the bottle

The bottle is located at the base of the Polepole Falls in Choroa Gorge. Unfortunately, there are always three elephants at the falls and they don’t like you encroaching on their turf. To get to the bottle, enter crouch mode (by pressing ), then skim along the right wall along the rocks till you reach the big boulder at the base of the falls. Here you’ll have to be careful because the elephants are almost surely eying you. When you get the opportunity, go grab the bottle from the center of the basin. Once you grab it, the trophy will unlock. Now, just teleport back to the base camp so you don’t have to deal with the elephants when trying to exit the falls.

42.jpg  Cheetah on car (S) (H)

Encounter 'Cheetah on car'

This is Big Game #18. There is no accompanying e-mail. You will almost definitely initiate this when you go for mission #108.

Thank you so much for putting this guide out for others to follow and use. It was very helpful and I don't think I would have found all the animals with the little patience I had left. Haha. Im one Trophy away from getting my Platinum. Very excited. =)

There is one problem with the guide, 'Lions Pride' is actually mission 66. I thought my trophy was bugged out cuz I reloaded an old save after it didn't pop after beating mission 49 and it still didnt pop again. Great guide otherwise, thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. The typo has been corrected.

In other news, at the behest of the Guide Team, I've removed the spoiler tags. Enjoy the click-free guide browsing.
