INTRODUCTION

3D Dot Game Heroes is a retro adventure game. Its design and formula is taken straight from the original The Legend of Zelda from the NES. Like that game, 3D Dot Game Heroes is a lot of high-adventure fun. There are dungeons to explore, weapons and items to find, monsters to defeat, as well as a host of side-activites. Also like The Legend of Zelda, the game can be extremely difficult at times. Appropriately then, some of the trophies can be extremely difficult to obtain. However, by following this guide, as well as utilizing the previously mentioned guide by EgHeadFool, you just might succeed in acquiring a well-earned platinum.

In the Kingdom of Dotnia, a land of only two dimensions, peace was kept by the six magical orbs, each guarded by a sage. One day, the Dark King Onyx appeared, and began doing what evil Dark Kings do best. He captured the sages and hid the orbs. Monster began to appear throughout the land, and Dotnia was in peril. Then, a young hero emerged, wielding an ancient sword. He rescued the sages, reclaimed the orbs (whose combined power formed the Light Orb), and defeated the Dark King Onyx. The evil one was trapped inside the Dark Orb, which was entrusted to the sages to be guarded. Tales of the hero's deeds spread throughout the world, and Dotnia experienced a time of immense prosperity due to tourism. Eventually however, the tales of the hero passed into myth, and people traveled to Dotnia less and less. The ruler of Dotnia, King Tezro, decided drastic action must be taken. He felt that people had grown tired of 2D, and declared that the Kingdom of Dotnia should be a land of 3D! Upon this, his declaration was so. The world came into the third dimension. This brought the attention of the Dark Bishop Fuelle, who himself had an evil plan. He traveled to Dotnia and stole the Dark Orb. Could Fuelle be trying to resurrect the Dark King Onyx? Once again, monsters began to show themselves across the land, and the people lived in fear. The time for a new hero has arrived...

This guide often refers to areas of a map (ie. area A1, A2, etc.). This is referring to this map.

ROAD MAP

To begin, it is best to understand you will have to complete 3D Dot Games Heroes a total of three times to earn the platinum trophy. These three playthroughs will each be completed on a different difficulty: Normal mode, FROM mode, and Spelunker mode. The order that this guide recommends you complete these playthroughs is as follows: Normal, then Spelunker, then FROM. Completing the difficulties in this order gives you the maximum amount of time to acquire small blocks, during gameplay that you must complete regardless. This will minimize the amount of small block farming/earning you must complete during your third playthrough. You must earn 88 small blocks no matter what, so you might as well earn them the most efficient way possible.

CREATE A CHARACTER

Save a character in the Editor mode. You can simply load a template that already exists in the game, then save it seperately to unlock
You Made a Friend!
.

PLAYTHROUGH 1 - NORMAL DIFFICULTY

Save often. If you die, do not continue, and do not save your game from the post-death screen. Back out to the main menu and load your previous save.

Acquire the Bestiary from the girl in Ortego Village. The Bestiary captures the statistics of monsters within the game. You must record all of the monsters within the game, including bosses, to earn
Bestiary Complete!
.

During this playthrough, you should record a majority of the monsters. See
Booked a Monster!
for information on acquiring the Bestiary. Note: The two monsters I recommend you skip in this playthrough are the Blue Dragon and the Crystal Slime. These two monsters appear randomly on the world map, but appear with much greater frequency in FROM mode, and are therefore easier to record then.

If you wish, you may go after
Life is Precious!
,
Master Magician!
, and
All Swords Obtained!
in this playthrough, but I recommend (and this guide assumes) you wait until your FROM mode playthrough.

Do
not
rescue the fairies Sue and Ai. This will earn you
The Adventure Continues...
at the end of your Normal playthrough.

PLAYTHROUGH 2 - SPELUNKER DIFFICULTY

Begin a New Game+. When naming your character, enter "SPELUNKER" (the name is case sensitive). This will automatically place you into Spelunker mode, regardless of the difficulty you choose onscreen. By virtue of beating the bosses in this mode, you will earn each
trophy (if you did not in your initial playthrough). When you complete this playthrough, you will earn
Spelunker Extraordinaire!
.

You must also play in Spelunker mode for ten hours to earn
You're a Survivor!
. It is highly probable you will complete your Spelunker mode playthrough before the ten hour mark, so if you need to eat up some time, just go to a safe zone (a village, a cave, etc.) and just wait until the trophy pops.

PLAYTHROUGH 3 - FROM DIFFICULTY

Begin a New Game+. Choose FROM mode for the difficulty. Use
,
and follow it step-by-step. This will ensure you complete the necessary events to earn the quest-related swords and all key items, which are themselves required for the Moon Sword.

Purchase every sword from King Block. This will require a total of 88 small blocks. See the
section if you do not have enough blocks by the time you reach the end of your third playthrough to purchase all of the swords.

Finish up any entries you are missing for the Bestiary.

Get the best possible result in each minigame (Dash Circuit, Blockout, and Block Defense). Collect all the LIFE pieces and MAGIC Ups required to earn
Life is Precious!
and
Master Magician!
. Upgrade the
Giga Sword to its maximum potential. Rescue Spelunker from area A1.

Rescue Sue and Ai, and restore the princess to her true form. Travel to Raejack Village with the princess and spend a night at the inn to earn
Have a Nice Night?
. Complete the game.

Good luck!

Impossible to miss. After the prologue, you will be given a sword and shield by the King of Dotnia. You will then be asked to go to the Sacred Forest to retrieve the Ancient Sword. Just before you reach the weapon, you will have to battle against two Guardians. These foes are large statues that leap into the air and attempt to crush you under their feet. Strike each of these enemies three times to defeat them. The trophy will unlock immediately after defeating them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/08.jpgBested Eelagon!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Eelagon without taking damage.

Eelagon is a large snake creature that moves around the room and shoots fireballs. You cannot block the fireballs with the shield you have the first time you fight him, so you must dodge them. However, you can block Eelagon himself if he gets too close.

Eelagon's body is made up of several pieces. You must strike the end piece when it glows to damage the boss. As you destroy each piece, Eelagon will begin to move faster. If you strike him anytime he is not glowing, he will unleash a barrage of fireballs. When only Eelagon's head remains, you must strike it to defeat him. It takes several hits to bring him down, but you no longer have to wait for him to glow to strike.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/09.jpgBested Queen Bee!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Queen Bee without taking damage.

Queen Bee is a large bee that flies around the room, generally surrounded by smaller bees that she sends to attack you, usually in groups of 1 to 3. She also fires her stingers at you. You can block the bees with any shield, as well the stingers with the Iron Shield.

Queen Bee is weak against bombs, but it can sometimes be hard to time the explosion with her movements. A safer strategy is to position yourself in the southern doorway of the room. If you have the Iron Shield, you can block any attack the Queen Bee launches out you without fear of being hit. Because of the angle of the doorway, both the drone bees and stingers will not be able get past your shield. All you have to do is move to the side of the doorway the Queen is on. For example, if the Queen is on the right side of the room, move to the right side of the doorway. Simply slash with your sword whenever you are not being bombarded.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/10.jpgBested Giga Golem!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Giga Golem without taking damage.

Giga Golem is a large golem that can shoot lasers out of his head. You cannot block the lasers with the shield you have the first time you fight him, so you must dodge them. The boss will also occasionally slam his fists to create shockwaves that can also hurt you.

To defeat Giga Golem, simply always be moving in a counter-clockwise direction around the room. If you move in this manner, the boss will not be able to hit you with his laser attacks. Strike the boss with your sword in between his attacks. After a few hits, the boss will lose his legs. At this point, you must destroy his arms. Continue to move counter-clockwise around the room. Once you destroy his arms, his head will begin to jump around the room. Keep your distance while he is jumping, avoid the shockwave when he lands, then strike. After several hits, he will go down.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/11.jpgBested Kraken!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Kraken without taking damage.

Kraken is a large octopus like creature with tentacles that rise out of the water to attack you. The boss will also shoot ink bubbles from his mouth when his head emerges from the water. His head will appear in one of four spots. Strike his head to do damage. You can destroy the tentacles that come out of the water as well, but this will not damage the boss.

When the battle begins, walk forward to the end of the platform directly ahead of you. From the edge of this platform, you can strike the boss in three of the four positions his head emerges from (if you have upgraded your sword, you may be able to hit all four spots). The one you cannot hit from here is the upper-righthand spot. You can get to him there by using the Wire Rod to cross to the platform directly to the right of where you are standing.

Strike the boss's head whenever it emerges, moving to the righthand platform as necessary. Whenever a tentacle emerges within range of your sword, immediately destroy it. Learn the range the tentacles can hit you, and stay just outside of it. It may take a few tries to get a feel for the battle, but defeating Kraken without taking damage is not too difficult.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/12.jpg Bested Dragon!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Dragon without taking damage.

Dragon is a large dragon that shoots fireballs and flies around the room, slamming his body down and creating shockwaves to hurt you. You can block the fireballs if you have the Fire Shield.

You must strike Dragon's head several times, at which point he will raise his head into the air. This creates an opportunity for you to strike his chest, which is his weak point. You can usually strike Dragon's chest twice each time he raises his head. As he takes damage, Dragon will get more aggressive. He will begin to shoot more fireballs. He will also fly into the air and come after you. He will either immediately try to smash you, or will hover above you for a few seconds and then try to smash you. Either way, as soon as he goes into the air, use the Dash Boots and run around the room to dodge the attacks. Watch out for the shockwave when he lands. Continue to strike Dragon's head, then chest when it is exposed. This battle is very difficult to win without taking damage.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/13.jpg Bested Dark Knight!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Dark Knight without taking damage.

Dark Knight is a large knight with a sword and shield. He can only be damaged while he is attacking or just after he charges at you. He sometimes shoots a crescent shaped magic attack at you, which you can block with your shield. He also teleports around the room often.

The easiest way to win this battle is to charge the boss as soon as the fight begins. Stand right infront of the boss, block his sword attack, then immediately strike him. The boss will teleport to a different spot in the room, where he will turn to face you, and then shoot a magic attack. Block this, then immediately strike him again. Repeat this until the boss is defeated.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/14.jpg Bested Fuellehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Fuelle without taking damage.

Fuelle is a wizard that creates clones of himself. He and his clones shoot fireballs at you, which you can block with the Fire Shield or better (but I find it easier just to dodge them). Fuelle can also summon a variety of common enemies that can be defeated for red and green apples.

Fuelle cannot be damaged unless the torch in the middle of the room is lit. To light it, cast Lightning. While the torch is lit, you can damage Fuelle by striking him with your sword. You will only cause damage if you hit the true Fuelle, who can be distinguished by his shadow. When there are four clones and the real Fuelle, you know the boss is close to being defeated. You will probably have to light the torch at least three times before the battle is over.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/15.jpg Bested Onyxhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Defeated Onyx without taking damage.

Onyx is a huge beast that has a variety of attacks. He can shoot fireballs, send out tornadoes, and strike the room with lightning. He also attacks you with his tail if you are very close to him. If you have the Hero Shield, you can block all of these attacks. The only attack you cannot block is a charged attack which Onyx tends to use after taking significant damage. However, you can easily dodge this, as it takes several moments for him to charge and release.

If your sword is long enough, you can simply stand at the opposite end of the room and strike Onyx from afar. Block (or dodge) whatever he sends at you, then immediately strike back. As you damage him further, he will become more aggressive with his attacks. His fireballs can be hard to block at an angle, so be careful. Overall, he's not too bad (if you have the Hero Shield).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/16.jpg Found Sue!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

You found Sue.

Sue is one of the two fairies you must rescue in order to return the princess to her true form, and thus, unlock Rescued the Princess!, Have a Nice Night?,and And Everyone Lived Happily Ever After!.

You will need one of each color key (green, blue, and red) or the Super Key for this trophy. After you have cleared the Flame Temple, acquired the Flame Wand, and found the Flame Sage, you can find Sue in a cave in area E4. See here for the world map. To get there, head south from Ortego toward the Desert Temple in area G5. Exit west to area F5, then north to area F4. Follow the path using the stairs and then head northwest to reach area E4. You will need to make your way around the central lake, grappling and burning stumps as you go. Finally, grapple to the center island and enter the cave.

Inside, you will have to proceed past several enemies and traps, as well as unlock one of each colored door. When the voice asks you the question about Indigo, answer "no". You will have to bomb the west wall in the room with the Magi. In the room with the Knights, use the Freeze spell to easily defeat them. Sue will be in the last room.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/17.jpg Found Ai!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

You found Ai.

Ai is one of the two fairies you must rescue in order to return the princess to her true form, and thus, unlock Rescued the Princess!, Have a Nice Night?,and And Everyone Lived Happily Ever After!.

You will need one of each color key (green, blue, and red) or the Super Key for this trophy. After you have cleared the Wind Temple and acquired the Miracle Boots, but before you have obtained the Light Orb, you can find Ai in a cave in the southern section area D1. See here for the world map. To get there, head north from Raejack Village and follow the path to reach area C1. From here, head east. The cave is in the southeast section of the area. You'll need to bomb the entrance to get in.

Inside, you will have to proceed past several enemies and traps, as well as unlock one of each colored door. In the room with the Cyclops and Black Knights, use the Freeze spell to defeat them easily. Ai will be in the last room.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/21.jpg Rescued the Princess!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

The princess was restored to her true form.

If you rescue both Sue and Ai, they will combine with Lee to restore Princess Iris to her true form. See Found Sue! and Find Ai! for more information on finding the two fairies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/22.jpg Have a Nice Night?http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

Spent the night in Raejack with the princess.

When you restore the princess to her true form, return to Raejack Village and spend the night at the Inn. The Inn Keeper will have some comments for you in the morning.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/23.jpg The Adventure Continues...http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

Cleared the game without restoring the princess.

Complete the game without rescuing Sue and Ai, and thus, not returning the princess to her true form. The trophy unlocks after the credits (which you can safely skip).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/24.jpg And Everyone Lived Happily Ever After!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png (missable!)

Cleared the game with the princess restored.

If you rescue both Sue and Ai, they will combine with Lee to restore Princess Iris to her true form. Complete the rest of the game after doing so to earn this trophy. The trophy unlocks after the credits (which you can safely skip).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/51.jpg Spelunker's Savior!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Cleared the Spelunker Event.

When playing on the FROM difficulty, you can rescue Spelunker in the west section of area A1. See here for the world map. You will need the Anchor Rod (the upgraded Wire Rod) to reach Spelunker, and the Flame Wand to burn away two tree stumps. Once you rescue him, you will be able to select the Spelunker mode difficulty when you start a new game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/47.jpg Flawless Hero!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png (missable!)

Cleared the game without dying.

Complete the entire game without dying. Save often. If you do die, do not continue, and do not save your progress. Reload your previous save from the title screen, and your death will not count towards the trophy. The trophy unlocks after the credits (which you can safely skip).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/48.jpg And the World was Saved!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Cleared the game in FROM mode.

After you complete the game in Normal mode (the default difficulty), you will unlock the FROM mode difficulty as an option when starting a new game. In FROM mode, enemies do twice as much damage to you, and there tends to be more enemies on each screen than in Normal mode. Complete the game again on this difficulty to unlock the trophy. The trophy unlocks after the credits (which you can safely skip).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/49.jpg Spelunker Extraordinaire!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Cleared Spelunker mode.

Spelunker mode is the hardest difficulty setting. In this mode, one hit from anything will kill you. Anything. Take a bite from one of the bunnies outside of Raejack? You're dead. Because of this, clearing Spelunker mode can be quite difficult, but there are a few strategies to surviving.

In general, you must play the game very cautiously. Whenever you enter a screen, check for traps, enemies, etc., anything that could potentially kill you. Don't bother tracking down LIFE pieces or protection rings, as they serve no purpose. Conversely, seeking out the MAGIC UPs can greatly increase your chances of survival.

The trophy unlocks after the credits (which you can safely skip). Good luck!

Note, entering your character's name as "SPELUKER" at the beginning of the game will let you play the Spelunker mode difficulty without rescuing the Spelunker character in FROM mode (See Spelunker's Savior!). Doing this overrides whatever difficulty you have chosen to start the game on (ex. if you select the difficulty as "FROM" and then enter you character's name as "SPELUNKER", the game will be in Spelunker mode, not both modes at the same time). Therefore, it is not possible to stack the And the World was Saved! and Spelunker Extraordinaire! in a single playthrough. Thanks to billygolden78 for this tip.

It has also been confirmed that entering you character's name as "SPELUNKER" and completing the game on your first playthrough will not unlock FROM mode. You only unlock FROM mode by completing the game on Normal mode. Therefore, no matter which order you choose to play through Normal/FROM/Spelunker modes, you must complete all three. Thanks to O6OPOTEHb-6PATA for this tip.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/19.jpg Life is Precious!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Maxed out the LIFE bar.

To max out the LIFE bar, you must defeat all the bosses up through Dark Knight and acquire 28 LIFE pieces throughout the world. None of the LIFE pieces are missable. LIFE pieces do not carry over to subsequent playthroughs. Locations for all 29 LIFE pieces can be found here.

Although there are 29 pieces, you only need to collect 28 to unlock the trophy. Please note, not all character types can acquire a maxed out LIFE bar, even after defeating the bosses and acquiring all the LIFE pieces. If you don't have a full LIFE bar after doing so, save your game, load your game, and switch to a HERO class character (FRUM, the first character on the list, will do). Also note, you cannot switch your character in Spelunker mode, and the Spelunker character cannot max out the LIFE bar (I don't know why you're going for this trophy on Spelunker mode, but heads up nonetheless).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/20.jpg Master Magician!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Maxed out the MAGIC bar.

To max out the MAGIC bar, you must acquire all the magic spells up through LIGHTNING and acquire all 8 MAGIC UPs throughout the world. None of the MAGIC UPs are missable. MAGIC UPs do not carry over to subsequent playthroughs. Locations for all 8 MAGIC UPs can be found here.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/35.jpg Obtained the Ancient Sword!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Acquired the Ancient Sword.

Impossible to miss. After the prologue, you will be given a sword and shield by the King of Dotnia. You will then be asked to go to the Sacred Forest to retrieve the Ancient Sword. Just before you reach the weapon, you will have to battle against two Guardians. Once they're defeated, you can claim the Ancient Sword. The trophy will unlock immediately.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/36.jpg Obtained the Holy Sword! http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Acquired the Holy Sword.

The Holy Sword is inside a cave in area G4. You must have acquired the Wire Rod from the Desert Temple to reach the sword. From Ortego, take the southwestern exit from the area. On the next screen, you should see a bombable cave wall near a staircase. Bomb the cave entrance, and proceed through the cave. Inside, you will need to avoid a number of traps. In the last room of the cave is the Holy Sword.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/37.jpg Wow! You Obtained the Hero Sword!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Acquired the Hero Sword.

The Hero Sword is in the secret tomb in the graveyard in area A5. You must have acquired the Flame Wand from the Flame Temple to reach the tomb. From Fina's Inn in area B4, head west into area A4. Continue south from here, grappling across the cliffs, until you reach area A5. Continue south until you reach the graveyard. You will need to use the Flame Wand to burn away a tree stump to enter. In the southeast section of the graveyard, there is a tombstone that has pots on either side of it. Push the tombstone north to reveal the secret tomb. Inside the tomb is the Hero Sword.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/38.jpg King Block's Seal of Approval!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Acquired a sword from King Block.

King Block is located in a cave east of the Castle in area E2 (you must grapple east-to-west across a river to reach him). He sells a variety of swords in exchange for Small Blocks. Buy any sword from him to unlock the trophy. Note that swords do not carry over between playthroughs, but Small Blocks do. Wait until the playthrough where you are attempting to acquire every sword before you purchase any swords from King Block. Alternatively, you can save your game before buying a sword, buy one to unlock the trophy, then reload your game.

As of the online update 1.01, swords that you purchase from King Block do carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/39.jpg All Swords Obtained!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png (missable!)

Acquired all the swords.

This is by far the most time-consuming trophy of the game. Many of the swords in the game require you to complete a specific set of events. While you do not have to complete all the events in the game, you do have to complete most of them. The easiest way to assure you complete all the necessary events is to simply complete all of them. This will also earn you a number of other collectibles such as LIFE pieces and MAGIC UPs. All of the events can be found here, and you will also complete all the events if you follow EgHeadFool's guide.

Swords obtained in a playthrough do not carry over to subsequent playthroughs. All swords must be acquired on the same playthrough in order to earn this trophy.

As of the online update 1.01, swords that you purchase from King Block do carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

Additionally, you must also earn the best possible result in each minigame. This includes:

~Dash Circuit: Beat the Block Circuit under 20 seconds. (25 with update 1.01)

~Dash Circuit: Beat the Monaca Circuit under 60 seconds. (65 with update 1.01)

~Blockout: Clear all five stages without losing a life.

~Block Defense: Clear all five Block Defense challenges (Road To Dotnia, Cactus Desert, Klovis Volcano, Wasteland Oasis, and Dark King's Garden)

As of the online update 1.01, the times required for earning the LIFE UP and sword rewards of the Dash Circuit minigames have increased by five seconds. This makes them significantly easier than before!

Lastly, you must also acquire a total of 88 Small Blocks to buy a number of swords from the Block King. It is recommended you wait until the FROM mode difficulty to attempt this trophy, as you will have acquired more Small Blocks from your other playthroughs. See Earning Small Blocks for info on the most efficient way to earn Small Blocks.

As of the online update 1.01, swords that you purchase from King Block do carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

Acquired the Hero Shield.

You will need to have acquired the Bolt Shield before obtaining the Hero Shield. You will also need one of each color key (green, blue, and red) or the Super Key for this trophy. Before you enter the Dark Tower towards the end of the game, head into the cave just to the west of the tower.

Inside, you will have to avoid several traps, as well as use one of each of the colored keys. In the room with the Magi and the Dark Knights, use the Freeze spell to take out the knights, then wait for the room to thaw and cast Reflect to defeat the Magi. In the final room, you will find a man infront of a treasure chest. Talk to him and answer "yes" when prompted to receive the Hero Shield. The chest behind the man is empty.

Played the game for five hours.

Impossible to miss. The trophy will unlock once the game clock hits 5:00:00.

The blacksmith can be found in the northeast section of Raejack Village. Talk to him to perform weapon upgrades. Purchase any upgrade for any weapon and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/41.jpg That's a Big Fat Sword!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Maxed out the Giga Sword.

See here for details on acquiring the Giga Sword. The Giga Sword takes an incredibly large amount of gol to max out. Most of the upgrades cost several thousand gol to make, and to max out any given category usually takes at the minimum 9,999 gol. It is recommended that you wait until the FROM mode difficulty to attempt this trophy, as farming gol is significantly easier on this difficulty.

A great place to farm for gol is the screen just east of Fina's Inn. Enter the screen, kill the zombies (who often drop silver and gold coins) and other enemies directly infront of you, and then leave the screen by going back west. When you return east, the enemies will have respawned. Repeating this process, you can usually earn 9,999 gol in about five minutes. Travel to Raejack Village to upgrade the Giga Sword as much as you can and then return to Fina's Inn to continue the process.

Survived Spelunker mode for ten hours.

Play the game in Spelunker mode difficulty for ten hours. Dying does not affect this trophy (you do not need to "survive" for ten hours). The trophy will unlock when the game clock hits 10:00:00.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/365/45.jpgAround the World!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Visited all maps.

To unlock this trophy, you must visit every map in the game world. This means you must visit:

-Every cave

-Every house

-Every temple (you do not need to visit every room, just the temple itself)

-Every boss room (including the final boss room)

-The secret tomb in the graveyard in area A5

You can use the world map for a checklist to keep track of where you've been. If you follow EgHeadFool's guide, you will hit most of these places, but there are a few he does not mention.

Some areas commonly missed areas:

~The empty house in the west section of Raejack village

~The weapon shop in Ortego Village

~The house in the west section of Colneria village

~The cave in area C5 (near the portals)

~The cave east of Jim's Shack

~The volcano tunnels near the Flame Temple

~The cave in area F2 (there is a wishing well with a chance to return a Tent inside)

Booked a monster in the Bestiary.

To get the Bestiary, you must obtain the Small Ring from inside the Desert Temple. Take the ring to the girl infront of the northwest house in Ortego. She'll trade you the Bestiary for the ring. The Bestiary is used like a sword. When it strikes an enemy, the game keeps track of the amount of times you've hit the monster. After a set number of strikes, the message "GET" will display on screen, and the enemy will be recorded into your Bestiary log. The number of strikes required is different for each type of monster. Simply record one enemy for this trophy.

EARNING SMALL BLOCKS

Small blocks are needed to purchase swords from the King Block in area E2. You need 88 Small Blocks total to purchase every sword King Block has for sale. These swords must all be purchased to earn All Swords Obtained! The absolute fastest way to earn Small Blocks is to play the Block Defense Plus mini-game, specifically the Tirnaco's Errand level. To play this level, talk to the cat in the Northwest corner of the first floor (ground floor for you UK folks) of Dotnia Castle.

Played correctly, Tirnaco's Errand takes about eight minutes to complete. Completing the level without losing any life rewards you with two Small Blocks. There are 10 waves of enemies. Unlike other Block Defense levels, you can only build towers on the specific locations provided. You can also sell back towers once you have built them, but then the space that the tower was on will disappear, and you will not be able to use that space again. You also cannot use your sword. The image and strategy below should give you a perfect clear with no problems. Good luck:

http://i.imgur.com/rOOcbOR.jpg

The Strategy:

(Collect all the coins you can on every wave and spend the crystals you earn on Bonus Ups. Do not buy Life Ups, as they disqualify you from earning a perfect clear, even if you do not let any enemies through.)

Wave 1: Place an ARROW TOWER on blocks 1 and 10.

Wave 2: Upgrade TOWER 10 to level 2, then sell it. Place an ARROW TOWER on block 2 and upgrade it to level 3.

Wave 3: Upgrade TOWER 1 to level 2. When the Black Knight appears, allow TOWER 2 to shoot him four times, then quickly sell it (before the wave ends).

Wave 4: Upgrade TOWER 1 to level 4, then sell it. Place an ARROW TOWER on block 6 and upgrade it to level 4. Place an ARROW TOWER on block 8 and upgrade it to level 2. Let TOWER 6 shoot the last Golem twice, and then quickly sell it. Upgrade TOWER 8 to level 5 and let it kill the Golem. As soon as the wave ends, sell TOWER 8. Place an ARROW TOWER on block 3 and upgrade it to level 5. Place an ARROW TOWER on block 5 and upgrade it to level 4. You will have to do this quickly, as Wave 5 will begin before you can finish. Just do it as fast as you can and you should be good.

Wave 5: If you followed the above steps, the Crystal Slimes should go down without issue.

Wave 6: When the Black Knight appears, allow TOWER 3 to shoot him three times, and then quickly sell TOWER 3. Let TOWER 5 finish him off.

Wave 7: Place a CANNON TOWER at block 9 and upgrade it to level 4. This will destroy the worms.

Wave 8: Upgrade TOWER 9 to level 5, then sell it. Place an ARROW TOWER at block 4 and upgrade it to level 5.

Wave 9: Upgrade TOWER 4 to level 6 and TOWER 5 to level 5.

Wave 10: Sit back and relax.

End Strategy

(This strategy was adapted from the Tirnaco's Errand strategy in EgHeadFool's guide.)

If you follow these steps, you should recieve a perfect clear, which will net you two Small Blocks. You can replay Tirnaco's Errand as needed until you earn a total of 88 Small Blocks.

Almost done with the main work. I'll go back and clean it up as soon as I can. I'm waiting on filling up the info for Life is Precious! and Master Magician!, as there seems to be some debate on character stats and the like. As soon as I get it sorted, I'll update. Thanks.

Thanks for putting this together. As I have earned both these trophies that need some clearing up, choosing a character with a life or magic +1 stat does not make earning the trophy any easier, in fact the bar is only ever truly maxed out using a character that has the stat advantage, if you use any other character you are always missing 2 icons, even if you collect them all. Just thought I'd clear it up, using different characters makes NO difference whatsoever :)

I also noticed that even if you manage to get all Magic +1 items the trophy won't pop until you've gotten the last spell.

That's because spells also give +1 to your magic.

Also, could it be possible Atlus eventually release a patch that allow swords to carry over in NG+? There was a patch for the japanese version, I would find it unfair we didn't get that.

Edit: Also, you can get all swords in one playthrough. There is 37 blocks in the game. You need 88 total to obtain all swords. You can farm them from slimes and dragons, it shouldn't be this long to get 50. Also I didn't know that till now, butclearing one of the extra levels of Block defense give you a block each time. Getting a perfect clear gives you an extra block.

So if you spent your blocks already or if like me, doing the dash circuit again is out of question, it's still possible to get them all in one playthrough. It seems that Block Defender extra levels is much faster then farming.

awsome guide, dam need the trophy difficulty!

Based on the minigames and Spelunker difficulty, I'm guessing somewhere in the 7 or 8 area (out of 10). However, work and writing this guide (as well as keeping up with the Nier forum) has been eating up my time for actually playing. I'm tied up for the next few days with work, but I'll get to rehauling this guide as soon as I can.

For the Acquire All Sword trophy, I'd like to point out that it's much faster to do it on the first playthrough by farming blocks.

Go in the castle, talk to the cat for the block defender bonus level. Just do the Timaco's Errand level over and over. A nice strategy was posted on gamefaqs to get a perfect clear.

It's 10 wave, the whole thing last like 7-8 minutes and you get 1 block for clearing and another one for a perfect clear, so it.s 2 blocks each time.

You can get 50 blocks in just a little more then 3 hours. To anyone who says it's faster to do 2-3 playthrugh, unless you can do the second playthrough in 3 hours, it's not worth it.

Once you did what I did, the second playthrough is a breeze. You don't have to worry about events or finding blocks, you can just go to te next dungeon and finish the game.

Yeah great guide so far but I think what it needs is strategies for beating the mini games. This is by far the hardest part of this game.

Not sure how much help mini-game strategies would be. I suppose the Block Defense games could be explained or even have a video guide made, but seeing as I haven't even been able to get a perfect clear on the first one I doubt I could be much help.

As for Dash Circuit, it just takes practice. There is one trick I have heard, but it doesn't seem to help me. The trick is to spam the Select button to constantly open and close the menu while you play it. This kind of gives the effect of slow motion to make it easier to gauge when to turn. Like I said, I still can't beat the times by doing this, but maybe it would help someone else. Another thing that helps a little is to use the d-pad while playing, not the analog stick. The way the controlling works with the analog stick is really just... not good at all, so the d-pad makes it much easier to do precise turns.

For the Block Breaker game, the only real advice to give is to get perfect clears on both Dash Circuits first in order to get the Wing Sword, then max the special on that and have it it equipped while you play Block Breaker. The speed boost from the special still applies while playing the mini-game so it makes it significantly easier to avoid losing any balls, or so I've heard, since I don't have the Wing Sword yet.

It took me 3 hours and I just got all swords on my first playthrough with that. It's much faster then a second playthrough. Look for the strategy for that Block Defender bonus level on gamefaqs. The strategy posted there worked 100% of the time for me, got 25 perfect clear in a row.

There is a strategy for that in the guide on gamefaqs. You need to know, for towers, quality is much better then quantity. Cleared most of the levels with just a few level 4 arrow towers.

Wouldn't the minimum number of playthroughs be 2?

SPELUNKER Mode is available right from the start like the first Legend of Zelda where you type in Zelda as the name for the immediate Second Quest but here erase the name and type in SPELUNKER (must must MUST all be in caps to work).

This would complete the game and complete SPELUNKER mode wouldn't it? (Along with some other trophies if tried hard enough.

I just tried Spelunker and SPELUNKER and Spelunker didn't work while SPELUNKER worked and gave me Spelunker as the name with a game save with 'Mode: Spelunker Mode' or something as the last line.

Guide Looks Sweet! Now if only the damned Paypal payment would go through so it can be sent to me, grrr

Also just how hard is Spelunker mode ? How many times am I gonna be fighting the urge to fire my controller across the room or put my fist through a wall?,. cuz hit hit kills sounds SCARY!

Probably depends on how much you upgrade the swords in the earlier playthroughs.
